Upcoming: Applied Economics Career & Networking Fair and Career Fair Prep Event

The Economics Department, in partnership with the University Career Center, will be hosting an Applied Economics Career & Networking Fair on Wednesday, November 6th from 6-8pm. The event connects students with UMD alumni and employers working in the areas of applied economics research, policy analysis, financial services, and consulting with federal government and private sector organizations throughout the DC Metro area. 


In preparation for the fair, students are also encouraged to attend the Networking & Resume Tips workshop that will be hosted by Fannie Mae on Monday, November 4th from 5-6pm.

UMD Data Challenge 2020: Student Registration Opens 11/1!

Are you creative? Analytical? Have a knack for solving complex problems? The UMD Data Challenge (DC20) is an annual week-long competition held by the University of Maryland, where students across programs solve real-world problems using data from organizations such as Amazon Web Services and the National Cancer Institute.

All UMD students (from any major or year) are invited to participate!
  • Team up with other UMD students
  • Select a data set provided by one of our sponsoring organizations
  • Use your creativity and analytical skills to solve a problem
  • Work with an industry mentor
  • Compete for exciting prizes
Mark your calendars! Registration opens November 1, 2019, 8am. Register by December 15th. This is a free event, including admission, swag, food, and beverages.

Or, be a DC20 Student Volunteer!
  • Get hands-on experience behind the scenes helping the DC20 teams
  • Build your organizational, networking, and leadership skills
  • Enhance your resume with volunteer and teamwork experience
  • PLUS enjoy free meals and a sporty volunteer t-shirt!
  • Students from all UMD programs may volunteer
