Balmoral Organizes 3-Day International Drinks Festival In Lagos

Posted: 29 Nov 2017 03:06 PM PST

Balmoral Exploits The $40 Billion Nigerian Drinks Industry

Three-Day International Drinks Festival Comes up Between December 1 and 3 in Lagos

All is set for the first ever International Drinks Festival in Nigeria organized by the Balmoral at the Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event is expected to attract over 25000 people to witness the transformation that two friends, Ezekiel Adamu and Akin Eso are bringing to the Nigerian drinks industry, with an estimated value of $40 billion.

The festival is expected to be a huge market place where drinks will be sold at prices far less than regular.  This is why the organisers chose December, when people tend to buy more drinks for the year end festivities. The three-day event kicks off on December 1 and will run through till December 3.

Both men are very familiar with the industry. Akin Eso is the convener of the popular wedding exhibition known as Wed Expo while Adamu is the Chief Executive Officer of the popular Balmoral, known for its cozy venues. The two friends have always had a symbiotic relationship which is now elevated to a new level. With the new working relationship, Balmoral has become a 360 events solution company spearheaded by three executives: Akin Eso who is the Chief Operating Officer, Goke Obembe, an Executive Director and Ezekiel Adamu who still retains his position as the Chief Executive Officer.

With their vast resources and knowledge, they are united in their quest to take Balmoral to a greater height.  Together, they have brought some outstanding and far-reaching changes to the brand. Some of the changes that are visible include Balmoral Life which is the strategic thinking, marketing and ideas arm; Balmoral Exhibitions, Balmoral venues and Balmoral Hospitality.

"We intend to create own events and we will also partner with people to develop their own ideas. Our major concern is to create innovative platforms that are tailor-fit for specific sectors of the economy. The International Drinks Festival is the flagship brand that we are launching. We are going to have several other brands under the Balmoral group next year. What we pride ourselves on now is creating platforms for industries." says Eso.

"With the International Drinks Festival, we are creating platforms whereby we have the drinks summit, which is where the business of drinks is being discussed. We have the exhibition, where the real brands will be able to showcase and also meet consumers as well as the hotel owners, club owners and the general public, then we also have the beer village which is more like an entertainment hub, whereby you have food and soft drinks. On the last day, we have the concert."

A major entertainment offering at the festival is the Flair Bartending Show, where the performers will display astonishing bottle juggling skills. An appetizing teaser of things to come at the main event was showcased last August. Having a mini-show four months ahead in itself was a never-before-seen novelty in Nigeria. It was all they needed to convince brands and other participants that the main event was going to be a different experience.

However, with so much entertainment surrounding the event, Eso is quick to point out that the festival is more than just having fun.

"We are not just having an entertainment event. What happened in the past was just an entertainment event, everybody comes to drink and have fun. We have that as a small part of what we are doing in total. The beer part of it is the entertainment part. We still have the B2B part, where the general managers of hotels, the owners of clubs, top level management in drinks companies, government agencies like NAFDAC, Customs, SON are coming to and discuss how to take the drinks industry forward. Customs is going to be talking on importation, We have SON to talk on standards. NAFDAC will talk on how brands that want to come into Nigeria or even the small brands that want to register because you have a lot of people now making smoothies and different kinds of drinks. NAFDAC will be there to discuss how to get your NAFDAC certification and the right steps to take. All these agencies will exhibit their services."

Adamu added: "This is the first event you are going to be seeing a Diageo opposite a Remy Martins; a Nigerian Breweries beside Guinness, Coke beside Pepsi, It is good for the consumers. A lot of people drink wine in this country, they don't even know what they are drinking. There are a lot of people who don't have a choice of drink, they just take whatever they see. With proper education, which is why we have the Masterclasses you will be able to understand; from tasting of wine to food pairing- don't expect to be have Amala with wine. The experts will teach what goes with Amala; and what goes with other wine things."

Among the things the Balmoral big wigs hope the International Drinks Festival will achieve for Nigeria is the collation of reliable and verifiable statistics. A lot of figures are being touted about Nigeria being one of the biggest consumers of beer and champagne. "Yes, Euro Monitor has contacted on their desire to conduct a survey because this is the only time they can meet every body they need to talk to in one place. We are also going to run our individual survey‎ as people come in"

LASG To Acquire Surveillance Aircraft To Secure Creeks Over Security Concerns

Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:06 PM PST

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Monday restated the commitment of the State Government to ensure the comfort and safety of residents and investors, saying the general welfare of the people remains a top priority for his administration.

This is as it emerged that the State Government has perfected plans to acquire Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, which is a specialized light aircraft, to secure creeks and riverine communities in the State.

Speaking at Lagos House in Alausa, Ikeja when he received Commanders of Armed Forces formations in the State on courtesy visit, Governor Ambode said it was gratifying that in the last two and half years of his administration, security agencies have been extremely cooperative with the State Government and working hard to ensure safety of lives and property.

While lauding the cordial relationship that exists among security agencies in the State, Governor Ambode said it was also commendable that there had never been any major civilian-military clash since the advent of his administration, and urged the military to sustain the peaceful atmosphere in the State.

He said: "All the security agencies in the State have been extremely cooperative with us. They have been able to put down that foundation that we have always wanted that without security there will be no development and irrespective of the changes we have had in terms of leadership of armed forces formations in the last two and half years, they have all done extremely well.

"Lagos is a cosmopolitan State and no matter how much efforts or resources government is putting in place, if there are no leg runners to execute those resources or even use them effectively, we will not be talking about peace.

"My aim is to ensure that every Lagosian sleeps and wake up comfortable and whatever it takes for us to do that is through the utmost cooperation of security agencies and I believe that you will offer that and as we move Lagos forward, it will have positive impact on Nigeria as a whole because everything good that happens in Lagos, is a reflection of what is happening in Nigeria."

While assuring that the State Government would not relent in supporting security agencies with critical infrastructure and logistics to enhance their job, the Governor also urged them to continue to put the equipment procured for them into good use for the overall security and comfort of the people.

"I want to most sincerely thank Governor Ambode for all the support he has rendered to security services of the State particularly in the area of vehicles and other logistic support. I am aware you are at the verge of recording another feat getting an ISR platform to ensure a 24/7 surveillance in the creek areas of Lagos State so that we will be able to fish out the criminals that disturb people from going about their lawful business," Yahaya said.

"Africans In Diaspora Are Jealous Of Each Other" - U.S Lady Cries Out

Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:38 AM PST

The story below is an account from a Facebook Page Mwebantu Trendsetters Two. An American lady whose has been broken share this heart touching story The post so far has garnered over 8k likes 7kcomments and 3k shares;

"You Can Never Understand A Human Being. I met Sylvester Mumba in 2012 in Livingstone,Zambia when I went there on vacation.

Sylvester used to sell things made out of wood at a place called Mukuni park in Livingstone. He was a talented woodcarver
,he used to make decorative crafts out of wood.

I got his phone number after I asked him to make a wooden map of United States Of America with my names written on it. From that day,he became my friend and we started communicating even when I came back to USA. I was 23 years old and single when I met him, I just did not feel happy,I was basically lonely and I would call Sylvester whenever I felt lonely. We would chat for hours non-stop. He had broken english but I understood everything.

He used to tell me that" we were meant to be because only I understood His bad english" We then started dating six months later.

I saved up just enough working as a Host in at a SteakHouse, went to a travel agency booked a plane ticket and was off again to Zambia, but this time not to see the Victoria falls but to see Sylvester. The ticket was $1,357 dollars at the time round trip. I stayed in Zambia for a month and we quickly got married.
Then after the wedding,i left him in Zambia. Back home in USA, I paid an Immigration lawyer to help me with visa paper work for Sylvester.

To make the long story short, Sylvester was given a green card and that's how he came to USA in May 2013. We did another wedding in USA.

We were so Much in love. All was well in our marriage.
I even helped him get a Job at Target Stores and helped him buy a car to ease his movements. He slowly started adapting to the American culture and his English Improved. He also met some Zambians living in USA and together they became one family. As time went by,we started attending functions/parties organised by the Zambian community in USA.

I was even there in Tampa, Florida to support Zambia National Soccer Team when they took on Japan. And after the soccer match there was a party where we interacted with the Soccer players and other people in attendance. I have attended many independence functions organised by the Zambian community in Atlanta. I started noticing one thing, the Zambians in USA like Gossiping and do not like to see their fellow Zambians (Friends) prosper in Life.

Sylvester's Zambian friends, Women inclusive would call and tell me that Sylvester did not marry me because he loves me, but because of poverty and papers (Green card). They would tell me that he was going round the Zambian community, telling people that he was just using me to become a US citizen and that he will leave me once he is given a green card valid for 10-years. Some of his Male Friends would call me asking me to divorce him and marry them instead, and some would call asking me for sex.

I did not care about what people were telling me. I loved him so much and he meant my world to me. Up to date I do not understand why Zambians in diaspora are jealous of each other. My step sister is married to a Nigerian Man and The Nigerians are so supportive of each other. Sylvester and I decided to isolate ourselves from all the Zambians in USA because their gossips started affecting our marriage.

We were happy once again until in June this year when Sylvester was arrested for being in possession of drugs.

He went drinking with some of his trusted Zambian friends. After around midnight, they all decided to call it a day. Sylvester was the only one driving,so he had to drop his friends at their various homes. And after dropping his friends,on his way back home, he was stopped by a squad car (Police Car).

His friends planted some drugs in his car and called the police. And that's how he was arrested in June and was deported back to Zambia Three weeks ago. I tried to fight his deportation for 4 months but it couldn't work out as you know our immigration laws are now tough because of our current president.

People get deported for minor offences. And the sad part is that his friends have been asking me to date them since the time he was detained. Sylvester left USA three weeks ago and on Friday 24th November,2017 he committed suicide. Sylvester will be put to rest today the 27th of November,2017 at his parent's village in Northern part of Zambia. I am so heartbroken. I am unable to travel to Zambia.

My prayers and thoughts are with his family"

Pathetic story you may say! May his soul rest in peace.
