Court Refuses Maryam Sanda's Bail Again

Posted: 07 Feb 2018 02:29 PM PST

In the case involving Maryam Sandas and her late husband who was alleged stabbed to death by her, an FCT High Court in Jabi has the second time struke out a bail application filed by Maryam Sandas, through her lawyers.

The trial judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu delivered the ruling by 12:20pm on Wednesday when giving ruling on the observation made by the court that a notice of appeal has been made against the court's earlier ruling denying Maryam bail in December 14.

The judge held that, " The proper thing to have done is to file notice of discontinuance of the appeal but having not done that the new motion filed on 25/1/2018 was brought for the irritation of the court and the prosecution counsel, and it is thereby struck out."

The judge earlier held that, "A notice of appeal is the livewire that animates and sustains an appeal. It is the originating process which set the ball rolling for a proper commencement of an appeal," the judge held.

He held that the Supreme Court defined abuse of court process to mean that the process of court have not been used bona-fide and properly.

"It is instructive to state that the relief sort in the notice of appeal to set aside my ruling and grant the

"The step taken by the defence counsel is such that ought to be observed closely. If the reliefs sort in the appeal and the new motion are same, the question is can I be asked to exercise discretion during pendency of the appeal.

"Filing and entering appeal are different issues. Appeal is considered filed when the notice is given to the trial court registrar and it is considered entered when appearances have been made and appeal number attached to it.

"I must warn myself to refrain from taking the part that will lead to destruction in that I want to avoid the situation where I sit on a matter already before my brother senior judges when the issue in contention originate from my court," Justice Halilu ruled.

Family Burnt After Using Phone Near A Gas Cylinder At Their Home In Lagos

Posted: 07 Feb 2018 07:46 AM PST

A Nigerian lady Funmi Adewola, has decided to share via Facebook her experience and to warn Nigerians to be extremely careful when using mobile phone near gas cylinders. She decided to dish out this warning having witnessed  a terrible explosion which happened in her house recently in Lagos. She disclosed that, the gas cylinder was leaking in the kitchen as she and her other relatives tried to fix the burner before it exploded after a message came into the phone.

See her account below:

PHONE IGNITING GAS IS REAL, BE WARNED!

At about 1:30pm on Sunday 20th January, 2018 I was chatting on my phone in the sitting room in my house when I heard an hissing sound. On investigation it was my wife's niece and my Niece's daughter in the kitchen trying to fix burner onto a camp gas cylinder.

When the leaking persist the wife came from the room to help them fix the burner. I kept hearing the hissing sound of the leaking gas so I stood up with my phone in my hand and went into the kitchen to give a helping hand and luckily we were able to stop the lickage but already the kitchen was charged with the gas.

I warned them not to strike matches yet because the gas is much in the kitchen, at that moment a message came into my phone which was on vibration and the next I heard was was the explosion which threw all of us in different direction with different magnitude of burns as you can see in the picture.

I posted this to warn us all to be careful with phone when using gas.

May almighty Allah heal my family."

My view:

If you use gas to cook, please make it a habit never to go into your kitchen with a phone.

No call or message is worth your life, if you need to use your phone light to see, please put it on flight mode.

Same goes to those who use their phone light to refuel their generator.

May Nigeria Succeed...

Nigerian Man Accused Of Cutting Italian Girl Into Pieces Escapes Murder Charge

Posted: 07 Feb 2018 07:26 AM PST

Innocent Oseghale, a Nigerian man suspected of killing and cutting to pices the body of an 18-year-old girl, Pamela Mastropietro in Macerata, Italy, may likely escape murder charge according to reports.

The chopped up pieces of the victim's body were discovered in two suitcases but the Nigerian suspect denied having anything to do with it.

He reportedly told policemen he ran away from the murder scene, his apartment after discovering the teenager had overdosed on drugs.

It could be recalled that Italian law enforcement agents found Mastropietro's "bloodied clothes, large kitchen knives and a meat cleaver" after a visit to the residence of the Nigerian whose connection with the alleged murder has inspired the killing of six Africans in Italy by a neo-fascism supporter Luca Traini.
The agitator, had stated that the death of the innocent people was an act of revenge in favour of 18-year-old Pamela Mastropietro.

Reports have also revealed that another Nigerian man suspected to be drug dealer has been apprehended for selling heroin to the teenager.

The Washington Post's Griff Witte confirmed in an article that Traini fired about 30 shots over 90 minutes during a Saturday morning attack that left the city of Macerata paralyzed.

"Investigators say he used a Glock semiautomatic pistol to fire out of the window, targeting dark-skinned pedestrians," Witte expressed in a publication.

Reports revealed that the violent retaliatory response echoed out the minds of native Italians when it concerns immigrants who are considered an alien to their culture.
