Mantu Never Rigged Elections For Us, PDP Responds To APC

Mantu Never Rigged Elections For Us, PDP Responds To APC

Kola Ologbondiyan

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has totally refuted the claims by APC that a Senator rigged election on it's behalf.

This was disclosed on Sunday, by the opposition party  while responding to the request by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday urging it to come out and confess its sins against Nigerians like the lawmaker has done.

It was alleged a former senate president, Ibrahim Mantu, had in an interview granted Channels Television, revealed that he rigged elections for the PDP.

In response, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan,
PDP National Publicity Secretary, said Mr Mantu's reported claims are personal to him and has nothing to do with the PDP.
Ibrahim Mantu

See Mr.
Kola Ologbondiyan responses:

"Senator Mantu spoke about his personal activities and tendencies in the elections where he participated. The PDP has never directed or had any pact with him to rig election on its behalf. Never!

"Individuals run their elections on the platform of political parties once they emerge as candidates. In the PDP, candidates are issued with the party's Code of Conduct containing the basic rules of electioneering engagements.

"There is nowhere in this rules of engagement where candidates or party members are directed to rig elections on behalf of the party. If any member's conduct transgressed these basic rules of engagement, that individual did not act on behalf of the PDP, and as such the party cannot be vicariously held responsible.

"It will therefore be misplaced for anybody, including the APC, to surmise that Senator Mantu, in the said confession of rigging, acted on behalf of the PDP.

"After all, in 2007, Senator Mantu lost his own senatorial election. What, then, happened to his rigging machinery, if he could not deliver himself.

"We urge the APC to manage its manifest failures in party administration as well as its incompetent, lackluster and wobbling governance which has grounded the nation's economy and brought hunger and starvation to our people," the statement added.

The former Governor of Ekiti State and currently the Minister of Solid Minerals Development , Mr. John Olukayode Fayemi, who is an indigene of Isan-Ekiti in Oye Local Government of Ekiti State, Nigeria, has declared his intention to run again in the forth coming Ekiti State Guber election.

Fayemi declares interest in Ekiti Guber race

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr kayode Fayemi, on Saturday declared interest

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr kayode Fayemi has declared interest in contesting the july 14, governorship election in the Ekiti State.

Dr Fayemi who was Governor of Ekiti State between 2010 and 2014, told journalists in an interview at his  Ishan Ekiti country home on Saturday that he would follow due process, starting a formal notification of his intention to the leadership of the APC and  the state secretariat of the party.

This he said would be followed by a public declaration rally at a date to be announced.

"Yes, I will run for the governorship of our state. As a leader of the party, I am going to follow the due process as laid down by our party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This include formal notification of the leadership of the party, presentation of letter of intent at the state secretariat and a public declaration."

Dr Fayemi said he was aware of various speculations about whether he would run for the governorship or not. He, however said that, with the last week release of guidelines and time table for the July election, the right time for him to make a formal declaration and join the race has come.

He said the state government's controversial White Paper could not stop him from contesting the governorship election, as designed by the PDP government.

INEC has scheduled April 15th for the commencement of electioneering process for the July election.

Earlier, the Minister had addressed a mammoth crowd of party leaders from all the 177 wards of the state at the APC leaders meeting held in Ishan Ekiti, where he urged them to be united in the battle to unseat the incumbent PDP-led government.

State Chairman of the party, High Chief Jide Awe, deputy chairman, Chief (Mrs) Kemi Olaleye; State Secretary, Barrister Paul Omotosho led other state, local government and ward  executives as well as elders of the party to the quarterly meeting.

Saying that the huge number of aspirants jostling for the APC ticket was a good development for the party, Dr Fayemi urged all aspirants and their supporters to pursue their ambitions in a very decent manner, emphasising their credentials and plans to lift the state from its present state.

He said it was obvious the PDP-led government in Ekiti was bereft of ideas and does not have anything good to offer the citizens of the state, stressing that the July 14 election would be an opportunity to halt the brigandage and maladministration going on in the state.

Apparently referring to his formal presentation of letter of intent, Fayemi had told the cheering crowd of his plan in the coming weeks to visit the party secretariat to commence the process.  "I will come to the party secretariat in Ado-Ekiti and do the needful.

He said while the the new APC government in the state would restore all the local Council Development areas (LCDAs) created by the his administration, and which was cancelled by the PDP government.

"Our people clamoured for the creation of these LCDAs and they were created for them. But the PDP cancelled all of them. I can assure you all, the new APC government would restore your LCDAs because that is what the people want.

Special Adviser (Media) to the Minister
