| Lawyers And Policemen Clash In Court Premises - Over Dino Melaye Issue Posted: 30 Apr 2018 05:20 PM PDT Lawyers And Policemen Clash In Court Premises - Over Dino Melaye Issue An unprecedented clash happened at the Chief Magistrate court, Mpape, Abuja yesterday morning between some lawyers and police officers over the detention of two lawyers and relatives of Senator Dino Melaye.According to PoliticsNGR David Amaefula and Pius Udo-Inyang, who are of the law firm of Messrs Rickey Tarfa & Co. Abuja Office, were on Tuesday, April 24 and 25 arrested by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office Guzape after they were dispatched to the Zankli Medical Centre, Mabushi, Abuja to secure justice for Senator Melaye, who was on admission there. A relative of Dino and his friend were also arrested during the raid. Magistrate Zubairu on Monday granted the defendants bail in the sum of N200,000 and one surety each in like sum, adding that the sureties must be resident in the FCT.  The atmosphere in the court premises became chaotic when over 50 armed policemen deployed in the court attempted to seize placards from protesting lawyers. The over 100 lawyers in the court premises resisted the move.  The police officers then encircled the lawyers and demanded that they leave the court premises. | Donald Trump Condemns Killings Of Nigerian Christians in Meeting with Buhari Posted: 30 Apr 2018 04:25 PM PDT Donald Trump Condemns Killings Of Nigerian Christians in Meeting with Buhari The United States President Donald Trump has told President Muhammau Buhari in strong terms that his country will not accept the killing of Christians in Nigeria.Mr. Trump expressed this while hosting the Nigerian President at the Oval Office in the White House on Monday.  "We have had very serious problems with Christians who are being murdered in Nigeria, we are going to be working on that problem very, very hard because we cannot allow that to happen," Trump said. On his part, Buhari said he is working hard to address the problem. He also thanked the US government for approving the sale of military hardware to Nigeria.  The clash between farmers and herdsmen took a different turn when gunmen invaded a Catholic church in Benue state last week.  Two priests and 17 worshipers were shot dead. Condemning the attack the Pope prayed for Christians while conducting a mass in Rome on Sunday. "I am not sure about the validity or whether that allegation against the President was true or not, so the best thing to do for me is to keep quiet," Buhari said during a joint press conference with Trump at the Rose Garden at the White House. He doubled down on that denial during the press conference. "We didn't discuss it, because the president knows me, and he knows where I'm coming from and I appreciate that. The Senator who was arrested and was on transit in Police vehicle from Abuja to Kogi State to face a case of illegal possession of firearms charge in Lokoja, and the alleged attempt to escape by jumping off the Police moving vehicle.Dino's Honorable colleague, Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce has taken to Twitter to accuse the Nigerian Police of gassing Senator Melaye twice."Just met with @dino_melaye. "As you may be aware, for quite some time now, since, after the 2015 general elections, there have been various calls made by individuals and groups from many quarters, nationwide, urging my humble candidature for the contest of the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the next general elections, due in 2019. I strongly believe that the people are doing so out of their conviction of contentment and satisfaction based upon the modest successes recorded while I served as the Governor of Kano State (2003 to 2011), and also as a Minister of Education (July 2014 - May 2015). In response to these calls, and in view of the seeming intricacies and the boundless complexities involved in such a national assignment, I have consulted across the geopolitical zones and different interest groups, who examined and appraised the issue and advised me accordingly. I am pleased to say, based on these wide consultations, that I am better informed and convinced that participating in the democratic process of serving humanity goes beyond party affiliations/boundaries, and also beyond just winning an election. The rescued girl was seen with injuries all over her body especially her hands suspected to have been inflicted on her through beatings and torture by the woman she lived with - was rescued by an NGO, Due Process Advocates (DPA) Warri, Delta Chapter led by Edafe Joshua.A Nigerian good Samaritan who saw bruises on the girl's body raised alarm before steps were taken to reunite her with her family. The advocate said; "The girl in this picture was passing by my shop Friday last week and i noticed that she has series of injuries on her head and was look very malnourished. I beckoned on her to come and i asked her what happened to her head and she started crying. "I equally noticed several other injuries all over her body especially her hands. i asked her who she was staying with and she said her aunty. "I asked her whether her aunty maltreats her and she said yes and she want to go back to her parents in Warri but doesn't know how to go about it. On futher inquiries, I discovered that this aunty of hers is not married and beats her over nothing and equally starve her. "My first move was to locate the parents of the girl, whom she said live in Warri. But she could not give a coherence address of where her parents live in Warri. The description she gave was onl. "Enter keke to Airport road- enter another keke to God's grace church - enter a place fenced with plank and ask of Deborah's parents." She gave her mother's name as Rebecca and her father's name as Isaac. "Upon further interview of the girl, she said that she is tired of staying with the woman and would prefer to die because of the ill treatment and abuse from the said madam. She said she tried to commit suicide and drank hypo but on realizing what she had done, she quickly took palm oil to neutralize it."
