| Zolile Khumalo, A Quantity Surveying Student Shot & Killed By Boyfriend In South Africa Posted: 02 May 2018 05:01 PM PDT Zolile Khumalo, A Quantity Surveying Student Shot & Killed By Boyfriend In South Africa Zolile Khumalo, South African young lady has been shot and killed by her boyfriend last night.The crime happened at the Mangosuthu University of Technology where the 21 year old Zolile Khumalo was a first-year quantity surveying student. Zolile Khumalo was reportedly shot dead by her 23 year old boyfriend, an ex-student of the same institution resident in Lonsdale in the Durban CBD According to a report, the spokesperson of the University Bheki Hlophe confirmed the incident, but however said the university authorities was still trying to get more details from eyewitnesses as the matter look very sketchy for now.  MUT warden at one of its outsourced residences, where the incident happened, reported that Zolile was shot and killed by an ex-student of the university yesterday (Tuesday)," Hlophe said in the media statement. The spokesperson of the university, Bheki Hlophe revealed that the accused was taken into custody immediately and he is now helping the police in their investigations.  A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused gained access to the residence through another student who signed him in. Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane, KwaZulu Natal police confirmed the incident and said the suspect was arrested. "We can confirm the incident that took place yesterday (Tuesday), 1 May 2018, at about 11:00 at Lonsdale where a 21-year-old woman was fatally shot by a 23-year-old man. The suspect was arrested at the scene and will appear in Durban Magistrates Court soon. The motive for the attack is unknown," said Zwane. The South African Student's Congress Organisation's (Sasco) Mangosuthu branch said via Facebook that it was dismayed by the killing and was "angered by the lack of security at residence". Some information later filtered in, that the accusation was by some disgruntled elements who were bent in tarnishing the image of the food seller whom in their sight is doing well more than they. Following this development, a philanthropist based in Austria has taken it upon himself to assist the woman who is known as Nwanyi Nanka.The philanthropist, Nweke Solomon Chukwudi from Nkanu LG in Enugu State but based in Austria, contacted one Comrade Victor Chinonso the journalist who reported the incident as he donated cash and a bag of rice to the woman. According to Victor, the rumors made the food seller become more popular as she now cook four (4) coolers of rice in other to meet up with all her customers demands, as against the three she used to cook. Angry electricity consumers invaded the town hall meeting organised by House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating means of Curbing the Excessive Electricity Charges Levied on Consumers, on Monday with stories of bad experiences.The Monday meeting was organized for customers in the North Central zone. Earlier, the committee had been to Lagos, Enugu and Yola.Majority of the consumers who came from Kogi, Niger, Nassarawa and the Federal Capital Territory to the session that was held in Nassarawa on Monday, took turns to present their complaints and grievances.The highlighted complaints the customers raised as not being satisfied with; included over- billing, non- supply of electricity, rude staff, none- supply of transformers, ignored complaints and low voltage to mention a few. The very unhappy customers also did not have good compliments for the Managing Director of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) Ernest Mupwaya , even as they raised various questions especially on the estimated billing system and issues on operational inefficiencies and inadequacies. During the tense meeting, there was a major argument on if Communities that buy transformers for themselves in a bid to assist in providing electricity should be compensated or not. The CNB today through a statement issued by Ag. Director, Corporate Communications, Isaac Okorafor said reports of fire in the head office building was false. " Reports that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) head office building is on fire are false. " Passersby who saw a pall of exhaust from the generator house far away from the building apparently mistook the exhaust for fire smoke. " The CBN maintains a total security system that triggers safety alarms in the presence of smoke and so all fire engines and personnel received the alert only to discover that it was an unusual pall of exhaust. " The affected generator has been rested and normal work has been uninterrupted, while the engineers are working to rectify the issues with the generator.
