| 24 Passengers Of A Boat From Drowning After The Boat Capsized in Lagos Posted: 26 May 2018 01:16 PM PDT  About 24 passengers of a ferry boat narrowly escaped death on Friday following the collision of two boats that capsized in Ojo area of Lagos State.The water accident involving two open fiber boats, was reported to have occurred at about 7:45pm close to the Ojo Terminal.Mr. Damilola Emmanuel, the Managing Director of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), who confirmed the incident, said one of the boats was driving at full capacity with 22 passengers, while the other had just the boat captain and deckhand on board."One boat was going from Liverpool to Ojo while the other was doing a return trip from same location."LASWA response team were able to rescue all passengers from the capsized boat and transported them to shore, no lives were lost," Emmanuel said. He said the affected boats (Toba Marine & Eco Lima) are presently in the custody of LASWA at the terminal until conclusion of investigations into what led to the collision. The LASWA boss attributed the success of the rescue of all passengers alive to the fact that they were all putting on life jackets, which according to him also made rescue efforts a lot easier. "All passengers on both boats were all putting on their life jackets. This is what we have been encouraging. Our agency has been on the forefront of leading the campaign that for no reason should anyone embark on a journey on water without putting on a life jacket. We have also gone a step further to distribute life jackets to encourage boat operators to enforce it," the LASWA boss said. Thank God for averting the tragedy!!! Sharing is caring. | Chimamanda Adichie Becomes The First African To Deliver Harvard Class Speech Posted: 26 May 2018 12:58 AM PDT  Nigerian Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has made his to become just the first African ever to deliver speech at the Harvard College Class Day Speech, which is a major feature of the university's annual graduation events. Among the list of previous speakers include last year's speaker, former US Vice President under President Obama, Joe Biden; former President Bill Clinton; Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg; Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mother Teresa; legendary music producer Quincy Jones; Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke; CNN Chief International Correspondent Christiane Amanpour; and Coretta Scott King, the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who delivered the very first Class Day speech in 1968 (Dr. King accepted the invitation before he was assassinated in April of that year, and his wife spoke in his place).Chimamanda's speech at Harvard on Wednesday conveyed the importance of seeking to tell the truth in today's world.According to the Literary Publishers, she also stated that while it is very important for people to be outraged when appropriate, it is crucial for one to understand the context in which an event took place or a statement was made—as well as the intent of the protagonist or speaker—before becoming offended or outraged. She exhorted the graduating students to be courageous in speaking the truth, even at the risk of being criticized for doing so, noting that true satisfaction comes from maintaining one's integrity."There is nothing more beautiful than to wake up every day holding in your hand the full measure of your integrity," she said.
