Why INEC Should Nullify Ekiti Election – Udeogaranya, APC Presidential Candidate

Posted: 17 Jul 2018 05:39 PM PDT

Charles Udeogaranya

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Charles Udeogaranya, a Presidential candidate, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to nullify the just conducted governorship election in Ekiti State.

Udeogaranya hinged the basis of his call on the fact that the election which saw Dr. Kayode Fayemi emerging as the winner was characterized by electoral malpractices.

Speaking with Vanguard, Mr. Udeogaranya said there was sufficient, "evidence of vote buying on the day of the election with such magnitude that has never been witnessed before."

He said:

"I am appalled that with thousands of law-upholding agencies of government, ranging from Police, DSS, Civil Defence and military deployed to ensure the rule of law in supervising the Ekiti governorship election, electoral illegality and malpractices were still the order of the day as videos in social media revealed and as reports showed.

"One of the sacrosanct laws of election is that campaign ceases a day before the election, but shreds of purported evidence of vote buying on the day of the election with such magnitude that has never been witnessed before was beyond comprehension by any civil-minded citizen.

"I, therefore, urge that the election should be nullified if the shreds of evidence are confirmed true and the main purported culprit's parties (APC and PDP as shown on videos) of massive vote-buying be banned in a rescheduled election.

"We must as a nation and a people who desire a better Nigeria, eschew all manner of corrupt practices and uphold nobility in all ramifications of governance".

Heavy Protest In Ekiti As Civil Society Organisation Register Their Displeasure Over Election Result

Posted: 17 Jul 2018 10:18 AM PDT

The civil society organisations  and a coalition of observer groups  that claimed to have monitored last Saturdays' governorship election in Ekiti state has condemned the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

According to Sahara Reporters, the coalition said they are not satisfied over the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as it does not reflect what they monitored.

At the end of results collation, INEC had announced Dr. Kayode Fayemi, the candidate of the All Progressives APC, as the winner.

The group said the result announced by INEC does not reflect their own findings during the election.
This was disclosed by Haruna Farouk and Adachi Okoro, heads of the monitoring coalition, had said it was regrettable that INEC and security agencies could be used to short-change the people of the state.

The coalition said:

"We have evidence of election malpractices where a particular party in connivance with security personnel went about inducing the electorate with cash and coercing them to snap the ballot papers in order to receive cash gifts from the agents of the party in question.

"The level of intimidation that occurred during the elections on Saturday was disheartening and shouldn't be allowed to stand in modern-day Nigeria.
"We witnessed a situation where loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP and its agents were harassed and intimidated so as to make it difficult for them to participate in the elections.

"Other incidents that we recorded will be made open in our findings, which will definitely shock Nigerians and expose the conspiracy of INEC, security agents and the APC to deprive the people of Ekiti from expressing their constitutional rights."

However the group has vowed to open up on its findings by Wednesday July 18, 2018 with comprehensive details of rigging and malpractices at the poll stating, it had in its possession evidence of massive rigging by a particular political party, which is not disclosed yet.
