There Is No Police Commissioner In Bayelsa – Gov. Dickson

Posted: 28 Jul 2018 05:23 PM PDT

Seriake Dickson

Governor, Henry Seriake Dickson, the Bayelsa State Governor has cried out that there is currently no Commissioner of Police(CP) in the Bayelsa, as the ones initially deployed to the state were constantly replaced and subsequently removed without replacement.

The Governor accused some opposition politicians resident in the state of taking the security of the state for granted,  by deceiving and misleading the Federal government into removing and replacing police commissioners in the state. The Governor said, sadly, that the federal government however listens to such politicians.

Governor Dickson made this disclosures in a statement while addressing newsment after an insightful and fact filled two hour lecture at the Institute for Security Studies, Abuja where the governor gave a lecture titled 'Cultural Values, National Security and The Challenges of Contemporary Governance. Perspectives from Bayelsa State Experiences.'

The Governor said:

"In Bayelsa State, considering all our efforts at promoting security and stability, there are politicians of the other party resident in Abuja whose only claim to political leadership is the control and abuse of the security forces.

"They undermine state security and do so with impunity without any form of challenge. Rather, the Federal system listens to them, removes and replaces security personnel they are not comfortable with, promoting insecurity and instability in the state; a state we are labouring hard to bring under security CONTROL."

"It will interest you to note that the true order of replacements and removal of Police commissioners in Bayelsa State within the past week is CP Don Awunah removed and replaced by CP Joseph Mukan CP Ahmed Bello to CP Ahmed Abdulraman CP Austin Iwar."

"As it stands, Bayelsa State is currently without a Commissioner of Police because while it is true that Don Awunah, going by the police signal is on transfer to the headquarters, up till now, nobody has taken over from CP Don Awunah," the Governor said.

Posted: 28 Jul 2018 12:01 PM PDT

ICPC

Comrade Ighorhiowhunu Aghogho, Child Rights Activist, has told the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, that some officials of the Delta State Customary Court of Appeal allegedly demanded the sum of N500,000 bribe "orally" from him, to transfer a case between him and one Engr. Odeseneka Gabriel from the Customary Court I, Isiokolo to Court II, Abraka in Ethiope-East Local Government Area.

According to the DAILY POST, the case with suit number: EEACCI/5T/18, was initially transferred from Abraka to Isiokolo based on a pending petition written by Aghogho against the President of the Customary Court which is yet to be investigated by the President of the Court of Appeal.

PDP Admonish Oshiomhole; Stop Acting Like An Attack Dog

Posted: 28 Jul 2018 11:15 AM PDT

Prince Uche Secondus and Adams Oshiomhole

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been admonished by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to stop behaving like an attack dog.

The PDP said since assuming office a couple of weeks ago, Oshiomhole has abandoned the path of wisdom, even as it accused him of being "noisy, loquacious, rapacious and completely immodest in all his actions and utterances."

According to the Vanguard, the PDP issued a statement through it's spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan that read:

"If Oshiomhole had limited his childish abuses to President Muhammadu Buhari, whom he dismissed as indolent, ineffectual and condoning indiscipline; or to the Ministers of their government, whom he wholesomely described as dishonourable; the governors left in his faction, whom he said are undeserving of return tickets in 2019; and members of his faction, who he had rendered directionless, the PDP would have ignored his attention seeking antics.

"Nigerians have now found a new laughing stock in Oshiomhole, who appears to have completely lost all bearings in his quest to compete for media space with aides of the President and by so doing, throwing every decorum to the dogs.

"While the PDP has nothing but pity for Oshiomhole, who is fast turning himself into President Buhari's court jester, our party will henceforth not watch and allow him continue to make irresponsible, mundane and unsubstantiated allegations of corruption, murder or mutiny against any member of the PDP or any notable Nigerians, unchallenged.

"The PDP cautions those who brought Oshiomhole into office, through a charade called a national convention, to immediately direct him to regulate the lethargic words spewing out of his double-speaking mouth before he derails our democracy.

"Oshiomhole should be reminded that but for the cover provided for him by President Buhari, he would have been under prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over huge allegations of pillaging the scarce resources of Edo State where he also trampled upon the citizens, including poor widows, when he was governor."

Why Nigeria Police Cannot Arrest Us Over Herders Killings – Miyetti Allah

Posted: 28 Jul 2018 06:27 AM PDT

Miyetti Allah

Alhaji Garus Gololo, the National Coordinator of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria in Benue State, has given reasons the Nigeria Police cannot arrest the leadership of the association.

Gololo disclosed this while reacting to the call by General Yakubu Gowon, rtd, former Head of State, that the leadership of the herders association should be interrogated by security agencies over the incessant killings in various parts of the country by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

Gololo described the call by Gen. Gowon as unfortunate and  not befitting of an elder statesman.

According to him, Gowon was only speaking for the people of the Middle Belt, adding that the killings were not limited to the region.

It could be recalled that Gowon had last week in Makurdi reportedly, condemned the killings in the Middle Belt, demanding that Miyetti Allah leaders be invited by Security Agencies for questioning.

In response, Punch however quoted the Miyetti Allah leader in Benue State as saying it was wrong for Gowon to have called for their arrest because they had not done anything criminal to warrant being invited by the police for questioning.

"I don't understand what Gowon meant because it is only criminals that the police can invite. If that is the case, who should be questioned in Zamfara, Borno, Rivers and Lagos where there have also been killings?

"Just yesterday, four people were killed in Zamfara, who should the police invite? To me, it is very unfortunate for a former Head of State to have made such inciting comments.

"What about the people who blocked roads in Jos and killed people; who have questioned them? And what about those people who were burnt to ashes and removed from vehicles in the Middle Belt, who have questioned those that killed them? Our people were burnt in vehicles at Daudu area in Benue State, who is to be questioned?

"As far as I'm concerned, we are cattle breeders, we are peace lovers, we support peace and we will continue to preach peace. Honestly, I'm not happy with his comments and I'm disappointed.

"No Miyetti Allah member would honour any invitation from the police in respect of any killings. Invitation? What for?

"They would call you just because you are leading an organisation and something happened in any state; is that how things are done?

"We are a registered organisation and we don't have any dealing with the police as far as I'm concerned because we have a very robust and cordial relationship with them. The police cannot invite us because of a request made by someone because we're friends with the police," Gololo added.

Defections: Oshiomhole Shall Eat His Words In 2019 – Senator Kwankwaso

Posted: 28 Jul 2018 05:04 AM PDT

Senator Rabiu Kwankaso

Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC., has been slammed over his recent comments, by members of the party who had defected to the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP.

Oshiomhole in a statement, had described the defectors before State House Correspondents in Abuja, as 'big masquerades with no electoral value' in their constituencies.

The leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, said Oshiomhole should wait and see his political popularity, in 2019.

Kwankwaso, who was among the 14 senators that dumped the APC during the week, has asked the APC chairman to wait till 2019 to see what they could prove.

The Senator while speaking to newsmen in Abuja through one of his aides, Binta Sipikin, said yesterday that Oshiomhole should not be in a hurry to test their political weight but should wait till the next general elections.

Sipikin, who said her boss' electoral values would speak out in 2019, stated:

"Let me remind him on how Kwankwaso nearly emerged the APC presidential flagbearer in 2015, which clearly shows how popular Kwankwaso is.

"It is not a fiction that Kwankwaso in 2015 APC primaries in Lagos came second to Buhari which shows clearly in Nigerian politics he is a force to be reckoned with".

Binta Sipikin, while speaking further, promised that Kwankwaso and his followers would surely show a political difference under the PDP, which he helped to form.

"Let me say clearly that by 2019, we will show to the whole world that Kwankwaso is truly a force to reckon with when it comes to Nigerian politics".

Saraki Speaks On His Defection And Senate Leadership If He Finally Dumps APC

Posted: 28 Jul 2018 03:58 AM PDT

Dr. Bukola Saraki

Dr. Bukola Saraki, Nigeria's President of the Senate, shed light on his status if he finally defects from the All Progressives Congress, APC to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The calm Kwara State-born politician, has showed all indications of his preparedness to announce his defection to the PDP in no time.

His loyalists in the red chamber are also ready to keep his presiding status, regardless of which party has the majority of members between the APC and the PDP in the National Assembly.

Saraki, who spoke with the Punch through Mr. Yusuph Olayiyonu, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity,  dismissed the call by members of the Parliamentary Support Group that he should quit as presiding officer once he defects from the ruling party.

The PSG is a group of APC senators supporting President Muhammadu Buhari.

Saraki disclosed that according to the rules, two-thirds of Senators were needed to remove a Senate President.

He stated:

"We all know the process of electing and removing the Senate President. It is not that a party must determine who takes charge; every member of the Senate will have a vote in the election or removal of the Senate President.

"The constitution is clear on how the collection of those votes is done and what number is needed to elect or remove the Senate President.

"So, anybody who says anything outside those provisions is just deceiving themselves. The person is speaking in a vacuum.

"We are not bothered here. The Senate President is still attending to his official duties from home despite the recess. Everything is normal here. They are the ones who have reasons to be bothered.

"I say this without intending to insult any senator. I try not to respond to any senator but allow the senators to engage themselves."
