The French President, Emmanuel Macron, on Wednesday in Lagos conferred France's highest national honour of Commander of the Legion of Honour on Globacom Chairman, Dr Mike Adenuga, Jr.

Macron bestowed the prestigious award on Dr Adenuga at the new Alliance Francaise Mike Adenuga Centre in Ikoyi, Lago

Explaining why the French Government decided to confer the country's highest honour on Adenuga, President Macron said the legendary business guru is "a true role model for Africa" who has contributed immensely to the growth of African and French economy.

Dr. Adenuga thus becomes the first Nigerian to be decorated with the award of Commander of the Legion of honour, a promotion from his previous honour as Chevalier(Knight) of the Legion of honour awarded to him in 2017.

According to the French Embassy, it takes 13 years to be promoted from Chevalier to Commander, but this higher order for Adenuga has happened in 8 months.

President Macron applauded Dr Adenuga on his promotion of the French language and culture in Nigeria, and also commended Bella Disu, Chief Adenuga's daughter who conceived, coordinated and executed the Alliance Française project.

The French Ambassador, Denys Gauer, congratulated Dr. Adenuga, saying that "his outstanding entrepreneurship and business ingenuity has today created so many jobs for Nigerians and, more importantly, value for the country."
Gauer noted that Dr. Adenuga has developed strong business relationship with France through Alcatel in telecoms and Total in petroleum, adding: "I am very happy that your contribution to the development of the French-Nigerian relations and your appreciation of the French culture are in this manner recognized and honoured."

He disclosed that in his two and half years in Nigeria, he can testify that Nigeria holds one trump card that is more important to surmount all challenges it may be facing now. This,  he said,  is the "incomparable spirit of entrepreneur, tenacity and ability to think out of the box," adding that "Dr. Adenuga personifies all these qualities."

The audience at the investiture included Governor Akinwumi Ambode of Lagos, Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka,  top government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and captains of industry.

He also holds the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON), Nigeria's highest honour for a civilian who is not in government in the country as well as Ghana's highest civil award, the Companion of the Star of Ghana (CSG).

Ahmed Maje

Hon Idris Ahmed Maje, a House of Representatives member, has insisted that politicians were behind the killings in Plateau State.

The Lawmaker, speaking during plenary, claimed he had evidence to prove that politicians were behind the many killings in the state.

The Daily Post reports that, Ahmed who represents Wase constituency in Plateau state, noted that he was aware that he was putting his life in danger by making the disclosure.

According to Maje, "I want to say this that the security men are not doing their work, they are the remote causes of this matter, whether we like it or not. I want to tell this House and Nigerians that about 300 people were trained in Israel, it's there in our report, we gave it to the government to work on and find out those sponsoring them.

"Till today, nobody has been traced and these people are the ones who go about killing people. I'm giving you this and I'm willing to surrender this documents.

"A company in Plateau State did importation and about four containers were missing and when we traced as a committee what was in those containers, we were told that the containers were taken to the house of a politician. When we traced the name of the company it was a security company in Israel. They bought arms.

"We do not want to say the truth and this will continue to hunt and bedevil us. The truth of the matter is that there are some politicians behind this killings. I'm from Plateau State and I'm saying those behind this are politicians and I know I'm putting my life on the line by saying this, but I prefer to die and save others. The Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed the Alhaji Buba Galadima led-breakaway faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the Reformed All Progressives Congress (rAPC), which officially broke away on Wednesday.

The Daily Post reported that the Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih in a statement which was made available to reporters in Benin called on the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC,  Adams Oshiomhole to submit to the leadership of Alhaji Buba Galadima to save the party from disintegration.

He praised Galadima and the other members of the faction for their courage, determination and forthrightness in admitting that APC has run a "rudderless, inept and incompetent government that has failed to deliver good governance to the Nigerian people."

Orbih remarked that the Edo state PDP was pleased to hear the news of the factional party's decision to reform, refocus and give direction and leadership to APC.

"We are glad to know that democratic and progressive elements have come together to join forces with concerned Nigerians to rescue the country from the sinking, undemocratic, incompetent, clueless, clannish and unprogressive leadership that the APC federal government has bestowed upon the people.

"Edo PDP looks forward to your positive contributions to the development and nurturing of a healthy political space, overflowing with love and respect for one another.

"As the authentic and recognized chairman of the Reformed APC, we wish you well as you attempt to steer the rudderless APC to safety. Breaking: Court Nullifies Imo APC Congresses

Posted: 05 Jul 2018 09:44 AM PDT

All Local Government and State congresses held in Imo State by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, on May 5th, 2018, has been nullified by a Federal High Court sitting in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

The presiding judge of the court, Justice Lewis Allagoa has ordered for fresh congresses in the state.

Justice Allagoa, in a judgement delivered, that lasted for about an hour, ordered APC, "to be responsible, save our democracy by conducting free and fair congresses in Imo State."

The Judge dismissed a motion filed by the defendants, insisting that his court had jurisdiction to hear the matter.

According to him, the exhibits tendered by the plaintiffs suggesting that there was no ward congress in the state on May 5, "was factual."

The Judge also stated that the recorded "press interview between the state commissioner of police, the state governor, Rochas Okorocha and Senator Osita Izunaso that there was no APC ward congress in Imo State on May 5 "was justifiable in law."

Allagoa cited a report of the Independent National Electoral Commission, which confirmed that there was no APC ward congress in Imo State on May 5.

The judge further adviced; "APC should go and be responsible and save our democracy. The defendants and the plaintiffs are members of the same political party, APC. There is no victor, no vanquished."

It could be recalled that the plaintiffs, who are a faction of the party loyal to the state governor, Rochas Okorocha, had approached the court seeking, among other things, a "declaration that the ward congress of the APC in Imo State which was fixed for May 5 was inconclusive and did not hold, since there was no result therefrom."

Full Text Of nPDP Statement During rAPC Declaration

Posted: 05 Jul 2018 08:38 AM PDT

Buba

The new Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, members in the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Wednesday announced formation of a faction of the ruling party, called "Reformed All Progressives Congress" rAPC.

According to the DAILY POST the nPDP which is now rAPC had concluded plans to break away.

Buba Galadima, a close ally of former Kano Governor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, emerged as national chairman of the Reformed APC.

The nPDP had put its negotiations with the presidency on hold after what it described it as a government-sponsored onslaught against Senate President Bukola Saraki, House of Representatives Speaker Yakubu Dogara and others.

Below is the full text of rAPC maiden address:

PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY ALHAJI BUBA GALADIMA, NATIONAL CHAIRMAN, REFORMED – ALL PROGRESSIVES CONGRESS (R-APC) AT SHERATON HOTELS ABUJA ON 4TH JULY, 2018

1. We are here assembled to address you on the state of our party, the APC, the state of the nation and the future of our experiment in constitutional democracy, in Nigeria.

2. You will recall that in the build up to the 2015 General elections, some political parties and groups came together, and formed a brand new political party, the All Progressives Congress, APC. This merger was based on the strong belief that Nigeria had come of age, but was severely underperforming and unable to meet its potentials for good governance. The Nigerian people entrusted power to the APC based on its promises and potentials.

3. We are sad to report that after more than three years of governance, our hopes have been betrayed, our expectations completely dashed. The APC has run a rudderless, inept and incompetent government that has failed to deliver good governance to the Nigerian people. It has rather imposed dictatorship, impunity, abuse of power, complete abdication of constitutional and statutory responsibilities, infidelity to the rule of law and constitutionalism. It has failed to ensure the security and welfare of our people and elevated nepotism to unacceptable height. The APC has failed to deliver on its key promises to the nation. There is no evidence of any political will to reverse the decline of our party, while leaders who have created these circumstances continue to behave as if Nigerians owe our party votes as a matter of right.

4. The APC government, has been a monumental disaster, even worse than the government it replaced. The political party that was a vehicle for enthroning the government was rendered powerless by manipulations and complete lack of due process in its operations.

5. The last straw, was the Congresses and Convention of the APC held recently. The Congresses were intensely disputed as it was conducted with impunity, total disregard for due process, disregard for the party Constitution and naked display of power and practices that have no place in a party we all worked the very hard to put in place.

6. There are countless cases in courts all over the country challenging the legality of congresses and even the National Convention itself. It is very likely that the judicial decisions on these cases will result in massive chaos, confusion and uncertainties. The fate of a party in this state with a few months to the elections is best left to the imagination, but it is not a fate we believe our millions of members should be abandoned to.There were parallel congresses in 24 States namely: Abia, Adamawa, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Benue, Borno, Cross River, Delta, Enugu, Imo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Oyo, Rivers, Sokoto and Zamfara.

These congresses in Wards, Local Government Areas and States all over the federation produced different sets of delegates. We therefore had an unfortunate situation where the party has been seriously factionalised and divided in not just 24 States but the 36 States and Abuja FCT.

7. The so-called National Convention of the APC was even worse. The National Convention of the party was ridiculed with constitutional infirmities that were so glaring and obvious that no fair minded person can claim that a legitimate and lawful executive emerged from that process. The Chairman of the organising Committee, Jigawa State Governor, His Excellency, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, declared 18 seats unopposed and uncontested, since only one valid candidate stood at the end of the grossly manipulated nomination exercise for each of the offices. He therefore proceeded to declare them duly elected in flagrant abuse and violence to the Constitution of the APC.

Indeed, Article 20 of the APC Constitution is very clear and explicit. It envisages a situation where if at the close of nomination, only one person is nominated, the Convention must vote "Yes" or "No", for each candidate before he is declared duly elected. For the avoidance of doubt, let us re-produce the article verbatim:

Article 20 (1) of the APC Constitution states "Unless otherwise provided for: All party posts prescribed or implied by this Constitution shall be filled by democratically conducted elections at the respective National Convention or Congress subject, where possible, to consensus, Provided that where a Candidate has emerged by consensus for an elective position, a vote of "Yes" or "No" by ballot or voice shall be called, to ensure that it was not an imposition which could breed discontent and crisis".

We all witnessed on live television and at the venue, Eagles Square Abuja, that the Convention Chairman, only put the "Yes" question to all the delegates, using words to the effect: Do you affirm? Do you agree? There was no opportunity whatsoever given to the delegates to say whether they are voting "No" for any candidate as the "No" question was never put to them.

It may well be that it the convention Chairman put the "No" Question, the voice vote for the "Noes", may have been more. We will never know, since it was never done, contrary to the express provisions of the APC Constitution. It is therefore unquestionably clear that the 18 officers of APC that was "Elected" through this process could not have been duly elected. This constitutional vice infected the offices of:
1. Comrade Adams Oshiomhole – National Chairman
2. Mai Mala Buni – National Secretary
3. Alhaji Ibrahim Masari – National Welfare Secretary
4. Tunde Bello – National Financial Secretary
5. Babatunde Ogala – National Legal Adviser
6. Bankole Oluwajana – National Vice Chairman (South West)

13. Nasiru Haladu – Ex-officio (North-West)
14. Rachael Akpabio – Zonal Woman Leader (South South)
15. Misbahu L. Didi – Representative of the physically challenged
and others.

8. Even before these illegal exercises that have alienated millions of members, there has been widespread disenchantment with the manner the party has been run, and the conduct and performance of our governments. The nPDP, a group that has made a major contribution to the emergence of the APC administration has made strenuous efforts to invite attention to inequities, injustice and poor management in our party without any success. The nPDP had shown good faith and commitment to the party, but it has been rewarded with indifference and even contempt. It is obvious that the leadership of the APC has decided to shut out members of the APC, as well as other members who have raised genuine grievances and a desire to improve the responsiveness of the APC to the desire of members for a party founded on democratic principles.

9. Under the circumstances, patriotic elements and most of the original founders of the APC have found themselves in the opposing side of this charade. Most of the delegates who bought and paid for forms for the congresses and convention and were elected as delegates have come together to take control and give legitimacy to APC to be now known as and called REFORMED-APC (R-APC).

The R-APC as constituted have officers in all the wards, 774 Local Governments, and all the 36 States of the Federation including the FCT.

The R-APC also have National Executive Committee, the National Working Committee and other organs of the Party are properly constituted and functional.

Nigeria faces an existential threat arising from three years of near destruction of this country and the exacerbation of our ethnic, religious and divisive cleavages. We will in concert with others offer real change to Nigeria. Not fake change. It is clear that our party needs a leadership that will live by its founding ideals. We have therefore decided to legitimately lead those members to work to rebuild our nation more firmly on genuine democratic principles, to enshrine good governance and restore the faith of Nigerians in the possibility of the existence of a prosperous, secure and peaceful nation

13. We call on all Nigerians, not to despair as a rescue plan is in the works and will be unfolded soon.

"Be Patient" - Oshiomhole Begs Aggrieved Party Members(RAPC)

Posted: 05 Jul 2018 03:54 AM PDT

Adams Oshiomole

The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress(APC), Adams Oshiomhole, has begged the aggrieved members of the party to be patient with his leadership.

Oshiomole said this shortly after the news of a faction of the party pulled out of the ruling party.

The new faction, called Reformed APC(R-APC), has many national assembly members and is led by Buba Galadima, a former ally of President Muhammadu Buhari.

"My appeal to all those who are aggrieved is to be patient," Oshiomhole said.

"The assurance is that under my leadership, we will make honest mistakes and once our attention is drawn, we will find courage to make up for our mistake.

"Some people say how can people eat their words, for me, I will eat my words if it is nutritious enough and if that is what I have to do to have peace in the family."

"So, I appeal to people to realise that a blind man can redeem his eyes if he applies the correct medication, but you can't force it to open over night," he said.

"I pray for wisdom and courage and I believe that we have it and we will deploy it for peace within the APC family," Oshiomhole said.

El-Rufai’s Ex-Campaign Director Jaafaru Ibrahim Dumps APC

Posted: 05 Jul 2018 02:26 AM PDT

El-Rufai

A prominent member of the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kaduna state, Jaafaru Ibrahim, has withdrawn his membership of the party.
Jaafaru Ibrahim who was the zonal campaign director of Nasir el-Rufai, governor of Kaduna, during the 2015 election, announced his resignation from the APC in a letter to the chairman of the party in his ward.

He is from Kwabai ward in Zaria local government area of the state.

According to TheCable, Ibrahim, in a statement, described APC as a sinking ship, saying it has failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Kaduna and Nigerians.

He said remaining in the APC would be tantamount to committing "political suicide".

Ibrahim accused el-Rufai of abandoning the party's manifesto and setting personal goals and objectives, which according to him, are detrimental to the future of the party.

Between June and December 2015, Ibrahim, a legal practitioner, was the interim management committee chairman of Zaria.

"Recent developments before, during and after the party congresses in Kaduna state are further confirmation of our fears that some of us are not wanted in the party, such that our continuous stay and in-house struggles and skirmishes had not only stagnated but rendered the party comatose due to the fact that the worst elements, crooks, swindlers as well as the most selfish have taken control of both the party and the government, making the future of the APC uncertain," the letter read.

"The state is mired in violence and people are being killed on a daily basis, criminality, rural banditry, cyclical atrocities between political classes, kidnapping and robbery are taking their toll on the lives and livelihood of citizens of the state rendering the constitutional provisions that the Governor as the chief security officer should provide for the security and welfare of the people an empty rhetoric.

"Moreover, the Governor has woefuly failed to address problems such as unemployment, abject poverty, hunger and housing and deliver on its promises as contained in its abandoned manifesto.

"The Kaduna State Government had since lost focus, commitment, zeal, determination, culminating in poor governance as a result of transparency, integrity, due process and accountability deficit.

"Our continued advise both privately and publicly for an improvement on both party administration and the state has been met with stiff opposition over which we have been called names in vituperative and unprintable languages.

"In view of the above therefore, it is obvious that APC in Kaduna state in particular, is like a sinking ship, hence every discernable mind has to scamper into safety as in this circumstances. I am not ready to commit political suicide hence it is with greatest regret that I have formally announce the withdrawal of membership from the party which we laboured to establish forthwith."

There had been resignations of some of the APC chieftains in the state in recent times, among them are; Yaro Makama Rigachiku, Isa Ashiru, Jagaba Adams Jagaba and Hakeem Baba Ahmed, chief of staff to Senate President Bukola Saraki
