President Buhari's 24 Points At Ekiti APC Mega Rally Tuesday

Posted: 10 Jul 2018 05:02 PM PDT

President Muhammadu Buhari was in Ekiti State Tuesday, for the APC/Fayemi Mega Rally building up for the July 14 Guber polls in the State.

The President in his speech outline 24 ponts which is now called; Nigeria 24 powerful things Buhari said in Ekiti by Vanguard.

1. I am happy to be here in Ekiti State, and among the good people of Ekiti. Ekiti State people are dear to me. My earliest interactions with people of this State dates back several decades ago, and I have always found them to be very intelligent and honourable people.

2. For those of us with a background in the military, we have come to know officers and men of Ekiti origin to be of exemplary courage, discipline and integrity.

3. Today, alongside indigenes of other States, many officers and men of Ekiti origin continue to follow in the footsteps of their forebears, under the command of the current Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin from Ode-Ekiti.

4. Outside of the military, over the years, many of your leading lights, especially in the academia, have distinguished Ekiti indigenes in the comity of states in our federation.

5. My coming here today is not only to campaign, but make clear the reason why Ekiti people must embrace the Change Agenda and vote for APC.

6. The Ekiti people are a politically aware and well informed electorate. They cannot be brainwashed or deceived.

7. In the last three years, this Administration has not only carried out laudable projects in Ekiti State, but also helped in creating employment opportunities for the indigenes of the State.

8. The APC Government has executed 13 Federal Roads and Intervention Projects in Ekiti State. Some have already been completed and some are near completion.

9. Those roads that have been completed at the cost of N766,739,968.37 are;

a. The construction of infrastructure, Roads Drainages and Asphalt Finishing at IKERE EKITI.

b. The construction of infrastructure, Roads Drainages and Asphalt Finishing at NATIONAL HOUSING PROGRAMME SITES.

c. The completion of emergency Repairs of failed sections of IFAKI – IKOLE – OMUO Road and;

d. The completion of emergency repairs of failed sections of IFAKI – IDO Road, while the Rehabilitation of EFON ALAAYE-ERINMO-IWARAJA road is 87% completed.

10. In addition, other Road projects ongoing in the State are; Rehabilitation of ADO-IFAKI-OTUN road; Repairs of IJEBU-IJESHA ROAD; Rehabilitation of ILA-ORANGUN-OKE ILA –ILALE-EKAN Road; Rehabilitation and Asphalt Overlay/construction of Reinforced Concrete Drains and Kerbs of 1.33km internal roads in Federal University, Oye, amongst others.

11. These roads are being handled by 13 different contractors, providing more employment to the people of Ekiti state.

12. You are all aware that Ekiti State has been operating without a Federal Secretariat. The APC-led Administration has also AWARDED the construction of a Federal Secretariat Complex in Ekiti to accommodate Federal Staff, and ensure that the state no longer operates without a Federal Secretariat as she has done since the creation of the State.

13. In addition to these laudable projects and employment opportunities, the APC government has also extended the National Housing Programme to the people of Ekiti State.

14. This National Housing Programme being handled by 16 contractors is not only beneficial in terms of accommodation, but also providing gainful employment. The suppliers of materials for this project are from Ekiti State, while the site work, electrical, plumbing, welding etc, are all carried out by the people of Ekiti State. This Administration desires to provide more employment opportunities to the people of Ekiti State and Nigeria at large.

15. There has been an unprecedented number of Federal political appointments of Ekiti indigenes in the state.
Ekiti State is also one of the Beneficiaries of our Social Investment Programmes, which include – N-Power, Homegrown School Feeding; Conditional Cash Transfer and Micro-credit finance for traders. We have also done several tranches of Bail-Out Fundsand Paris Club Refunds.

16. In spite of the fact that the current administrations in Ekiti State and the Federal Government belong to opposing political parties, we have always ensured the State got her fair share in the allocation of resources, the siting of federal projects, and the selection of beneficiaries of federal government programmes. We will never play politics with the welfare of the people of Ekiti or any other State regardless of the partisan affiliation of the government of the day.

17. May I, again, clear the air on the issue of herdsmen and farmers' conflicts, on which many politicians in their mischievous attitude have been blackmailing me and the APC-led administration, purporting that I have not taken any action on the issue because I am a Fulani man. This is cheap blackmail. Like I said recently, the protection of lives and property of Nigerians is my responsibility. This, I have vowed to do, and will stick to the oath of office. I assure you that measures are being taken to ensure lasting solutions.

18. I, therefore, call on Ekiti people! Don't allow yourself to be insulted by stomach infrastructure. Your future and the future of the upcoming generations are in your hands today. Vote for APC and grow beyond Stomach Infrastructure.

19. The time has come to correct historical injustice and restore Ekiti State to the path of peace and prosperity. The whole country looks to Ekiti to do the right thing by voting for the APC candidate in the election this Saturday, July 14, as you commence the journey to Reclaiming Your Land and Restoring Your Values.

20. I present to you the APC Gubernatorial candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi. VOTE for him on Saturday, 14 July, 2018.

21. Dr. Kayode Fayemi served as Minister of Mines and Steel Development and recorded series of achievements in the Ajaokuta Steel Company. And with his experience as one-term Governor of the State, a meaningful development is guaranteed. DON'T WASTE YOUR VOTE. VOTE FOR DEVELOPMENT. VOTE for APC-Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

22. I came into office in 2015 through a free and fair election. In my party, the APC, we do not believe in manipulation of electoral processes. The will of the people must matter. And that is what we will uphold here in Ekiti – FREE and FAIR ELECTIONS. No manipulation of any form.

23. Finally, I urge all the stakeholders of this important election to ensure free and fair election, embrace peace and promote democracy in Nigeria.

24. Thank you and God bless EKITI People! God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

I’m In Nigeria To Upgrade Nollywood To Hollywood - US Based Hakeem Kae Kazim

Posted: 10 Jul 2018 03:06 PM PDT

Nollywood Actors

Nigerian US based actor, Hakeem Kae Kazim says he is in Nigeria to make Nollywood Hollywood..I want Nigeria to become Hub of African Film making.

On the recent episode of African Voices, CNN meets actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim who has returned to his roots to help teach aspiring thespians. Kae-Kazim discusses the future of 'Nollywood' and why he feels passionate about celebrating African storytelling.

Kae-Kazim explains to the programme how his acting career began:

"My interest [in the theatre] happened from an early age, at 15 or something like that. I trained as an actor, went to the [Bristol Old Vic] Theatre School and then did the Royal Shakespeare Company in the United Kingdom, then the National Theatre… I did some amazing plays with some amazing people. I just walked my way though, doing amazing projects."

Known best for his powerful portrayal of a Hutu warlord in the critically acclaimed film Hotel Rwanda and for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean, Kae-Kazim is now returning to his home country to help teach young actors. He explains to the programme how this opportunity came about:

"A director had come over to LA from Nigeria, had seen me work in 24, and said, 'No one knows you're Nigerian, you should come back, there are people who would love to see you. They'll be surprised that you are Nigerian.' So off the back of that I thought, you know, what a good idea. Let me go back and see what's going on."

Kae-Kazim outlines why he wants to share his knowledge:

"I've come back to do some training with actors and people in production so that we can get to an understanding of the discipline really required to produce a top-notch film or television production."

Sharing his skills hasn't been the only thing he's been busy doing since returning to Nigeria, he's also been spending some time in front of the camera, making his 'Nollywood' debut in 2010:

"The very first thing I did was a musical film called Inale. I then did a little film called Last Flight to Abuja and that was a really lovely little piece about the airline industry."

Kae-Kazim describes why he feels passionate about supporting the film industry in Nigeria:

"I am very proud of 'Nollywood', in terms of what the people have done. They've put Nigeria on the map and they've done this without any support of any kind and I think they must be acknowledged. I think what has to happen now is that the industry has to expand, it has to get bigger and better. It's really about upping the technical anti of the film [and] being able to tell stories that are very true to the African voice."

Kae-Kazim tells the programme that in order for this to happen, more needs to be done to support the industry:

"No one is going to come and shoot there when the lights go off or when you need generators which are going to destroy your sound. That again is a lack of incentive to help build an industry which could be doing tremendous stuff for Nigeria."

On why 'Nollywood' must continue to produce films and its' potential to compete with the content being produced by the best in the industry, Kae-Kazim states:

"We have to start to tell these stories for ourselves, to me, that's the most important thing. You know, I'm coming back from Hollywood, not to come and say, 'Let's bring Hollywood here', but to really make 'Nollywood', Hollywood. To inspire the fact that we should be the stewards of our own stories. We have a myriad of different stories that we can tell that are all uniquely Nigerian on one level and uniquely African on another level."

Kae-Kazim explains that part of supporting the industry would be to make cinemas more accessible in Nigeria:

"I think building more cinemas in and around Nigeria would certainly help… I would love to see more cinemas going up in places like Ajegunle and Surelere with affordable prices."

He describes what he hopes to see from 'Nollywood' in the future:

"I want to see Nigeria as the hub of African filmmaking, not just concentrating on Nigerian films, but on films that tell you about the African voice from the African perspective."

Kae-Kazim offers some advice for aspiring actors:

"Just keep loving what you do, but it's really [down to] working hard, trying to improve not only yourself as an actor but the state of the industry. That also means [improving] the day to day discipline and making sure one is on time and focused when one is at work."

Power Generation Drops To 92MW As National Grid Collapses

Posted: 10 Jul 2018 02:29 AM PDT

The national electricity grid seem to have suffered another collapse over the weekend as the energy generated into the grid dropped to 92.30 megawatts (MW) on Sunday.

According to Daily Trust reports, records of daily operations in the power sector showed that the highest generation was 3,621MW but it sharply dropped to 92.30MW during the period as the system frequency rose to 51.18 Hertz, a level that could trigger system collapse.

The report stated further, that statistics from the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing proved that beside the reported collapse at the weekend, the national grid had recorded eight system collapses in 2018 with the most recent occurring in June.

Seven out of the eight system collapses, were total collapse, as the whole country were plunged into darkness in January (when five such incidences occurred), in February and in June. There was a record of partial system collapse in April.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) which manages the grid system in its response said the system collapse occurred at about 14:27hrs of July 8, 2018. "Restoration commenced immediately after the collapse and the system was fully restored by 15:13 hours the same day."

The spokesperson of TCN, Mrs Ndidi Mbah who confirmed this to Daily Trust said the collapse was caused by tripping of Sapele-Delta and Delta-Benin transmission lines, which reduced generation into the grid by 640MW.

"The line was fully restored by 3:15 pm Sunday and normal transmission of power also restored, yesterday," she stated.
