APC Chieftain Threatens Mass Protest Over Saraki, Blames FG & Security Agencies

Posted: 25 Aug 2018 05:51 PM PDT

APC

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bauchi State, Alhaji Ali Saidu has blamed the federal government and security agencies for not removing Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Senate President from office.

Alhaji Ali Saidu also threatened to mobilise nationwide mass protest to demand the immediate sack of Saraki as the nation's Senate President.

Saidu made this assertion on Saturday in Bauchi while in an exclusive chat with the DAILY POST.

The chieftain accused Saraki of causing serious setback to the President Muhammadu Buhari administration in its determination to develop the country.

" I had initially said that the emergence of Saraki as senate president is a bottle neck to APC administration because the executive and the legislative arm of the government relationship has been bitter following Saraki undue attitude against President Buhari," he said.

Saidu insisted that if the Federal Government and security agencies failed to get Saraki out of office, Nigeria will not experience peace.

According to him, Saraki has deliberately hijacked the nation's business of legislation against the plights of Nigerians

"The ouster of Saraki is necessary and not negotiable because bills from the President's office had always suffered especially issues that require legislative procedures. So, sparing Saraki to continue in office justify a collateral damage to Nigerians," he added.

The APC chieftain then threatened to soon mobilise nationwide mass protest to block the National Assembly complex if Saraki was not impeached immediately.

"Yes, let me assure you that many pressure groups have volunteered to join us stage mass protest blocking the entrance of NASS any moment from now demanding Saraki's sack to liberate Nigerians," Saidu said.

PDP Shocked At Uduaghan’s Exit, APC Jubilate

Posted: 25 Aug 2018 05:05 PM PDT

Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan

The dumping of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for All Progressives Congress, APC, by former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan came as a shocker to the members of powerful PDP family in the state, but for APC, which is awaiting his formal declaration,  it was a welcome development.

Delta state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and a circle of PDP leaders discussed the matter yesterday with circumspect, while strategists of the party have been directed to come up with novel ideas to stop APC from taking over the state as already speculated by the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.

Some PDP stalwarts, who spoke to Saturday Vanguard expressed surprise that Senator Okowa allowed the strained relationship between him and his predecessor over the party's 2015 governorship primaries  to force him (Uduaghan)  out of the party, saying that such a "colossal disaster" should not have been permitted to occur.

A member of the political family, Senator Ighoyota Amori, who is a Political Adviser to the National Chairman of PDP, told Saturday Vanguard: "It is unfortunate and very sad development. For me, it is something that the Ibori political family which he belongs to never expected because we have heard so many discussions and if he finally does that, it is most regrettable."

His words: "What I can say is that what we as a political family cannot conquer, we endure, we live that to God, but we believe that we will live up to expectations."

"We respect him as a member of the family from the very beginning, but if at these wee hours, he decides to jump ship and leave his political family, he is entitled to his political destiny. However, I know as a family member that we did everything humanly possible to retain him in the political family.

"There is nothing we can do than to allow him to chart his own political course if it is true that he has finally left the PDP for APC. That is all I can say for now," he asserted.

Amori added: "I say that his exit is a political minus to the Ibori political family in Delta state, but the family definitely will live up to prospect, that is the truth."

According to him, "All we need to do is to change our gear and change our method and quickly readjust ourselves to close the gap. I believe that at the end of it all, the family will say that we are still very much at home."

A leading APC governorship aspirant from Delta North senatorial district, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, told Saturday Vanguard: "It is a welcome development; I have been in the forefront of the move for Dr. Uduaghan to come over to the APC. I visited him severally to join the APC and told him unequivocally that he has no future in PDP."

"His coming to APC is just a tip of the iceberg, many PDP stalwarts have told me that as soon as I secure the governorship ticket of APC by God's grace, they will dump the PDP for our party because they believe in me. I have discussed with a wide range of them and they are waiting anxiously," he said.

Ojougboh, a former deputy national chairman of PDP, said: "PDP is finished in Delta state; they should just wait until we conclude our primaries.  Governor Ifeanyi Okowa will not know what hit him when I get APC governorship ticket, nobody can save him, and I can tell you that he is gone."

Successive governorship candidate, Chief Great Ogboru, popularly known as the "Peoples' General" told one of our reporters: "I am sure you have heard before that in politics there is no permanent enemy, but  permanent interest. This is why we have to accept it as one of the realities and we must live with it. If he is actually coming, then the more the merrier and he would be a major asset for the APC in Delta state."

APC governorship candidate in the 2015 general election and leader of the party in the state, Olorogun O'Tega Emerhor, said:  "It is a welcome development. Being a former governor of the state, he has a large followership, knows how to win elections and his joining us is a big plus meaning we now have the capacity to achieve our quit notice to PDP in Delta."
Another APC chieftain, Olorogun Solomon Edojah, asserted: "It is a step in the right direction because the PDP is already going into extinction and Uduaghan is one of those that gave the party a lifeline in the state."

"I also commend him for ignoring all the forces that held him behind all this while from making this move because I believe with his political experience and sagacity for a turnaround in the APC, as he was the oxygen in which PDP in Delta has been surviving," he stated.

List Of Top Five State Governors In Nigeria, That Deserves Re-Election

Posted: 25 Aug 2018 11:31 AM PDT

Mr. Akinwumi Ambode
Talking about Nigeria politics the practice is very poor and most of the people believe there's no saint in politics which is not far from the truth, however there are some of these exceptions who had made up their minds to distinguish themselves from the rest.

Below are five of those ones we think are above board with their performances so far and should deserve a second term in office, come 2019.

Number one the list is :

1. Mr. Akinwumi Ambode
Akinwumi Ambode
Although the list is in no particular order but even if the list is in descending order, Governor Ambode would still be our number 1.

When Fashola was the Governor, we thought Lagos state has witnessed the best of development but Ambode has taken that to another level. He within the space of 3 years turned Epe around to a city to be proud of, he constructed over 21 roads in Alimosho area of the state.

He brought another set of modern bus to replace the usual BRT buses, Lagos State as rowdy as it is is witnessing the best secured environment in the history of the state with his achievement in the security sector, he lighted up at least 365 streets in Lagos state.

Ambode had also greatly improved the Internal Generated Revenues in Lagos state as the state is making around 1bn per day now. What of the Pen Cinema Flyover, the world class Oshodi Transport Interchange, five new Art Theatre built, Epe and Badagry Marina Projects, Airport Road, Abule-Egba to Oshodi BRT laneetc.

That only little above 6 months to a general election, virtually no opposition members has shown interest in replacing Ambode speaks volume of how high the opposition in Lagos state rate the performance of his administration

The excellent man overseeing the affairs of the centre of excellence has performed excellently well and therefore deserves a second term.

2. Nyesom Wike
Nyesome Wike
The controversial Governor of Rivers state who is also now the leading opposition party, PDP figure is without any iota of doubt an achiever, he may have been in the news more for political related issues but the truth is, the infrastructure provision he is providing for the River state people is unprecedented.

One and his most important achievement is that, Rivers state which is known to be a killers den, Rivers state which house arguably the highest number of Cultists, political thugs, touts, hooligans and rascals in Nigeria is enjoying a relative peace.

There was a time Killing used to be a day to day occurrence in all the nook and crannies of River state but the narrative has changed with Wike in charge.

Any government that is successful in the provision of adequate security for her citizen is a government that deserves to be credited. Wike is credited for this and should be returned to complete his reform in River state.

3. Atiku Baguda
Atiku Baguda
Unlike Wike, the Kebbi state Governor is a silent achiever, there is a silent revolution taking place in areas such as agriculture, education, health, youth empowerment and security.

There has been so much noise and advice about diversifying the Nigeria economy and Baguda is one of the few Governors walking the talk.

In the area of agriculture, Kebbi state signed a partnership deal with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to provide loan facilities to the rice and wheat farmers in the state.

The same Kebbi state under Baguda had a partnership with Lagos for the production of Rice in large quantities, today, Kebbi is providing over one million metric tons of rice and that is the brain behind the LAKE rice which has flooded our market. This agricultural achievement has also created thousands of job opportunity to the Kebbi citizen. State like Imo, Enugu, Katsina, Ebonyi etc have all visited Kebbi to understudy their rice production techniques.

Baguda also performed well in the education sector by renovating several school and providing enough teaching and learning materials to students and teachers. Teacher in Kebbi are been retrained among other landmark educational achievement in Kebbi.

In the health sector, all the General Hospitals in the state has been renovated by Baguda, All the existing comprehensive health centers in the rural areas were not left out as they were provided with necessary drugs, equipments, qualified personnel to man them and the list continues.

Baguda is a testament to the popular saying that empty barrel makes the loudest noise. He is not a popular media figure like Fayose but he is an achiever per excellence that deserves to be returned for a second tenure.

4. Apostle Dave Umahi
Apostle Dave Umahi
The Governor of Ebonyi state has built over 20 standard roads within the capital city of Abakaliki, road construction are visibly seen to either be ongoing or completed across Ebonyi, the first fly over in the state was constructed by this present government

In other to reduce Lassa Fever, Umahi built the first virology centre in the south east from scratch. Umahi greatest achievement however is in the area of agricultural.

Like Baguda, Umahi has turned around Ebonyi state with his agricultural initiatives, soft loans to the tunes of billions was provided for the farmers to expand rice production and the results has already been seen as rice production tripled in Ebonyi in 2017.

Umahi also provided parboiling machines for the 3 rice mills in the state and the state is today the biggest producer of rice in Nigeria.

The workers welfare is another great achievement of the Umahi led Ebonyi state government, for a state which had no concrete source of IGR, for a state that is in the caliber of Osun, Ekiti to be able to pay the workers salaries promptly despite the economic quagmire, such state Governor deserves an accolade.

The government has paid workers' salaries till date and workers have received 13th month salaries for the last two years. Salaries are paid before 20th of every month, while those of teachers are paid before the 15th of every month. Pension of retired workers are also paid as and when due.

No doubt, Dave Umahi deserves to be re-elected.

5. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai
The lanky Governor of Kaduna is not just one of the most popular and influential Governor in Nigeria, he is also one of the best performing Governor, he has performed remarkably in steering the progress of Kaduna state.

The most notable of his achievement is Kaduna Educational reform, El-Rufai despite the criticism wielded out the unqualified teachers in Kaduna state, he then appointed over 2,500 qualified and well screened teachers, he further embark on a massive renovation of the state owned public schools.

State owned Tertiary Institutions were also giving the deserved attention as there are massive capital projects that are either ongoing or completed in the state's tertiary institution, this is aside the increased budgetary allocations to these institutions to boost their effectiveness and place them amongst the leading tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

El-Rufai is also fighting corruption as much as Buhari is fighting it. First was the massive recovery of government's property from illegal occupiers and encroachers which had hither to led to distortion in some of the government's plan.

A rigorous verification exercise that was carried out for the state civil servants which led to the extrication of over 13,000 ghost workers from the state's payroll, thus saving the state huge sums of money and then the adoption of Treasury Single Account (TSA) was replicated in Kaduna state.

There are massive construction of road ongoing in Kaduna at the lowest possible cost. The IGR been generated in Kaduna state has also increased under El-Rufai by more than 60%, moving from 11.5B in 2015 to 17B in 2017. New investors are also moving to Kaduna on regular basis as the government signed a partnership deal with a Chinese firm to build a new 50,000 barrels per day refinery in the state.

The former F.C.T minister maybe in the news more often than not for political reasons but he is obviously a ground breaker when it comes to governance and therefore deserves to be returned next year.

Let's have your views on the lists above.

The National Chairman of PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, while speaking to The Punch in responding to President Buhari's assertion that the APC will win both the presidential and other elections, said the President was only being deceived by those who do not understand the game of politics.

The Party National Chairman said:

"President Buhari is being deceived by those who are not familiar with politics of their states that they would deliver results to him.

"The President and the APC would be shocked with the level of their rejection by the electorate come 2019.

"Winning of elections is not about boasting. What will the President tell Nigerians that he has done for them?

"What will he tell workers he has done for them? What will he tell Nigerians he has done about the economy, job creation and others?

"Will Nigerians vote for someone who will not stay in the country to administer the country, but would choose to be junketing all over the world?

I Am Afriad If Buhari Will Allow Nigerians Vote In 2019 Elections – Junaid Mohammed

Posted: 25 Aug 2018 04:25 AM PDT

Muhammadu Buhari

Dr. Junaid Mohammed, Second Republic House of Representatives member, has described President Muhammadu Buhari's boast via the media, that his party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, would win the 2019 elections as empty.

Dr. Junaid reacted to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to Buhari Garba Shehu in Abuja on Friday, where the President was quoted to have said that the APC will win the 2019 general elections.

The ex lawmaker said that the people should be allowed to cast their votes and not to be bought with money as witnessed in recent elections.

"The boast as far as I am concerned, the man Buhari is not a democrat and he is incapable of learning to become one," he told the Punch.

"I sincerely hope that the 2019 elections come and happen the way normal elections should hold because if what we saw happen in Ondo, Ekiti and the last three Senatorial bye elections in Katsina, Kogi, and Bauchi is what they refer to as an election, then I doubt if we are going to have an election worth its name.

"If we call it an election because people have gone to vote and there was no too much violence, but a humongous amount of money was doled out to voters in exchange for their ballots; will the election be worth anything? I doubt."

Makarfi Give Insights On What Saraki, Tambuwal, Kwankwaso Would Do For PDP

Posted: 25 Aug 2018 01:49 AM PDT

Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi

Alhaji Ahmed Makarfi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former National Caretaker Chairman, on Friday, said the defection of high profile politicians into the party would not have negative impact on the fortune of the party in the next general election.

Markafi said the defection of political leaders, including the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Governor Aminu Tambuwal, and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso would add value to the chance of the party in the forthcoming 2019 general elections.

However, he stressed that the party has the capacity to handle the likely challenges that may confront it as a result of the defection of new members into its fold.

The Daily Post reports that former Caretaker National Chairman, who is a presidential aspirant of the party said this in Akure, the Ondo State capital, while on sensitisation visit to the leaders of the party in the state.

Makarfi solicited the support of the state chapter of the party for the realization of his presidential ambition.

READ ALSO6 Reasons PDP Should Give Ahmed Makarfi Presidential Ticket For 2019

He admitted that the defection of new members into the PDP has its challenges, but said: "the leadership of our party has all it takes to handle any challenge that may come as a result of the development."

"There is nothing good without its challenges. Our party needs new members and we appreciate the defection of some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) into our party, but this may come with its own challenges as many of them may also signify intention to contest for political offices.

"However, the leadership of the party has the wisdom to handle such situation, and we won't allow it to divide us."

Makarfi, while speaking on the threat by the APC senators to impeach the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, said;

"I am not surprised with their actions; it shows their ignorance about the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria because the constitution is clear about that. If they are familiar with the constitution they will know that they lack the legal powers to impeach the Senate president.

"I am sure they cannot have the two-thirds majority which the constitution requires for the impeachment of the Senate president. Our members in the Senate are intelligent people who will not give lawlessness a place in the Senate."

According to him, the defection of the Senate President to the PDP does not prevent him from holding his office, saying the constitution failed to indicate that the Senate president must come from the ruling party.

He said, "I will refer the APC senators to the constitution for better understanding of the laws of our country."

Markarfi, however, threw his weight behind the restructuring of the country, saying that the country needs total restructuring in order to develop and advance its economy.

He said PDP will ensure that the country is restructured if the party return to power in 2019, saying that the party has the key to the myriads of challenges confronting the nation.

"The policy of the PDP is restructuring and I can assure you that we will restructure this country. The Police will be restructured, so also the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Each political party must have a representative in INEC and that is what the PDP will do if we take over the government," he said.
