Nigerian Government has stated unequivocally that it did not pay any dime for ransom to secure the release of the abducted Dapchi girls.

The Federal Government stated this again on the back of the 22nd report of the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team of the United Nations' Security Council, which disclosed that large ransom payment was made to Boko Haram to secure the release of the over 100 schoolgirls kidnapped from a secondary school in Dapchi, Yobe State in February.

This is contrary to what the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, told journalists at the time that the girls were released following "back-channel" negotiations brokered with the help of some "friends of the country."

Lai Mohammed has maintained that no ransom was paid for their release, and also denied that any Boko Haram prisoner was swapped as part of the negotiations.

The Minister In a statement issued in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, challenged anyone who has any evidence of payment to publish such.

"It is not enough to say that Nigeria paid a ransom, little or huge. There must be a conclusive evidence to support such claim. Without that, the claim remains what it is: a mere conjecture," the Minister added.

‘Stop Postponing The Evil Day, You Must Be Humiliated’ – Omo-Agege Threathens Saraki Over NASS Crisis

Posted: 18 Aug 2018 01:04 AM PDT

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege

A leading member of the Parliamentary Support Group, PSG, a body of the All Progressives Congress, APC members in the National Assembly loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has vowed that the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki must be humiliated.

Omo-Agege disclosed that the APC caucus is insisting on the reconvening of the National Assembly.

According to Omo-Agege, the APC caucus was also not in support of the alleged proposal for a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives whenever the National Assembly is reconvened.

The lawmaker while speaking with the Punch said that Saraki must not remain Senate President after his defection from the APC to the PDP.

Omo-Agege revealed that the APC lawmakers had a meeting with Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the party, during the week on Saraki matter.

In his words;

"We have the information that they want to reconvene a joint session and that is completely unacceptable to us. Of course, we won't accept it.

"The Senate itself has to be reconvened for this purpose. The reason (for postponing the planned recall on Tuesday) is that he knows that we have the numbers now – and indeed we have the numbers now – to remove him. Any opportunity that we have right now, we will get rid of him.

"They have no choice, they have to (reconvene). They are just postponing the evil day. The credibility of the 2019 elections is at stake and it would be a jeopardy if because of Saraki's selfish interests he refuses to reconvene the Senate towards approving this budget.

"Saraki must understand that the national interest ought to supersede his personal and selfish interest. He cannot tie down the fate of the entire country just because he wants to hang on a position that we are determined to remove him from.

"We as a caucus are very resolute to remove him and at the slightest opportunity he gives to us, he is gone. We have said that he ought to do the honourable thing, the right thing by stepping down, otherwise he would be humiliated. We have the numbers and we are going to remove him."
