Tinubu Breaks Silence On Defections, Says APC Will Be Better Without Saraki And Tambuwal

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, on Sunday revealed why the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, defected from the party to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Tinubu said Saraki, Tambuwal and other defectors left the ruling party because APC could not offer them what they wanted.

The APC National Leader, disclosed that Saraki and Tambuwal wanted automatic tickets and "sharing of the national wealth which the APC could not guarantee."

Asiwaju stated this in a statement he personally signed titled "They Go Away Because We Go the Right Way", and was posted on his official Twitter handle.

According to Tinubu, the defectors "left the party to return to a motley agglomeration that would promise them what true democracy could not: automatic tickets, sharing of the national wealth and other offices and privileges".

Tinubu asked the people to go beyond the debate on the numbers in the Senate or the House of Representatives, saying "we must pull back from the shallow headlines to recognize that something fundamental is at stake.

"Nigeria is undergoing a historic transition. Sometimes awkwardly, tentatively, yet inexorably, we nurture political and governance reform. We steadily close the door on the old malpractices that have caused a rich nation to reside in the tenement of the global poor".

Asiwaju speaking specifically on the Sokoto Governor's defection, the APC leader said: "Governor Tambuwal's exit can be distilled to one cause. He covets the presidency. However, he had not the stomach to challenge President Buhari in a primary. Tambuwal felt further insulted that he would be compelled to face a direct primary just to retain the governorship nomination. But for the promise made by PDP headliners like Rivers State Governor Wike that he would have the PDP presidential nomination, Tambuwal would not have left.

"His exit had nothing to do with governance of the nation. It was about forging a personal ambition predicated on the defeat of progressive reform not the advancement of it."

Speaking about the Senate President, Tinubu said: "Much the same for Senate President Saraki. Returning to the PDP, he harbors dreams of the presidency but Tambuwal's ambition will dwarf Saraki's when the two collide.

"If Saraki had remained in the APC, he would be unable to reclaim his Senate seat let alone the Senate Presidency. He thus bolted because he lusts for the presidency but was promised by the PDP, at least, a return to his position in the Senate".

‘I Can Defeat You Even In Adamawa’ - Okorocha Tell Atiku

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 01:53 PM PDT

Governor Rochas Okorocha

The Governor of Imo State,  Governor Rochas Okorocha, today claimed that he possessed the capacity to defeat Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President, in any election, even in Adamawa State, Atuku's home state.

Atiku, who is one of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential aspirant is a native of Adamawa State.

Okorocha made the above statement while reacting to the former Vice President's claim, that he would lead the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to take back Imo State and Nigeria at large.

Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, the Chief Press Secretary to Okorocha, in a statement said:

"The Former Vice-President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was in Owerri for a meeting with the stakeholders of the PDP in the State over his presidential ambition.

"While meeting with the PDP Stakeholders in the State, he was reported to have told them that he would lead the struggle for the PDP to take over Imo and Nigeria in 2019.

"He also tried to run down the governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and his government.

"What we do not take from anybody is blackmail against the government of Rochas Okorocha. We would do our best to set the record straight. The former Vice-President would have done his meeting without scratching the governor and the government he heads in the State. And that is where we come in.

"The former Vice-President therefore leave Imo and Governor Rochas Okorocha alone and face his worrisome challenges. And if he does not know, Governor Rochas Okorocha will defeat him in any part of the Country including his Adamawa State in any election involving two of them.

"He does not therefore have what it takes to lead any struggle that will return the PDP to power in the State or the Country in 2019. That promise was a false one.

"To say the least, that promise of returning Imo to PDP was very deceitful knowing full well that in 2011 Rochas ran on the ticket of APGA that had no structure on ground and defeated an incumbent PDP governor with a very wide margin.

"In 2015, he took the soul of APGA to merge with other parties to form APC and defeated two powerful Candidates of PDP and APGA, even with the PDP Candidate having the Federal might behind him. Interestingly Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was not in exile when all these happened.

"Imo PDP is dead. The monumental achievements of Governor Okorocha in less than eight years have destroyed the Imo PDP because the Party has no claim again to make before Imo people.

"And that is the reason all those who made the Party thick in the State have all left to join either APGA or APC. Today, all the former guber aspirants in the PDP are doing so in APGA including Chief Ikedi Ohakim. They have left the PDP for two people."

A Parallel APC Secretariat Commisioned By Senator Magnus Abe, Speaks On working with Wike

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 01:01 PM PDT

Senator Magnus Abe

Senator Magnus Abe, Senator representing Rivers East senatorial district at the National Assembly, and governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has commissioned a parallel secretariat in the state.

The Senator in a statement while commissioning the factional office, stated that the reason for opening the office was for proper administration of the party in the state, adding that they will not be provoked into shedding blood., Daily Post reports.

Senator Abe however noted that attacks on him would not restore peace in the state, and added that he had been wrongly accused of working with the Governor of the state, Governor Nyesom Wike who is of the opposition.

In his words;

"This is a move about peace, it is a movement about growth and progress and we will not be provoked into shedding blood. I thank the youths for coming out en mass. I want to thank members of the State Executive Council, who have ensured that we gathered here today.

"The executives of the party that we have here were put together by all the groups in the party.

"It was put in place when the court gave an order that we should maintain status quo and voided the congresses at that time. In view of the legal tussle in our party, this is the only executive that does not have any legal or moral impediment.

"I want to associate myself with them and say that I support them. This is the only state secretariat where you must not engage in hate speech against anybody before you will be allowed to enter. As far as you believe in APC, as far as you believe in Buhari and you know that Adams Oshiomhole is our chairman, this office belongs to you.

READ ALSOI've Been Shut Out Of APC, But Won't Leave — Senator Magnus Abe

"Time has come for us to make peace in our party. Peace is what we need to move the party forward. I must also say, that in the court of law, we cannot charge somebody for one offence and convict him for another offence.

"We were united in this party, we were together in this party and we were eating and drinking together in this party.

"What was the problem, a charge was made against some of us and that charge was that we were ambitious because we wanted to run for a position. They said we were disloyal because we did not stop when, 'we were asked to stop.'

"That was the charge against us. On this premise the party was balkanised, hatred was introduced and the party was almost destroyed because
they said Abe and the others must leave the party because they said we were ambitious and disloyal.

"Today, that charge has collapsed in the court of public opinion. Instead of trying us with that charge, they are now trying to convict us of charges that were never made against us. If you read the papers today, they say we are colluding with PDP and Governor Wike."

APC & Katsina Goverment Bought Votes To Save President Buhari — Kabir Kaita

Posted: 19 Aug 2018 10:55 AM PDT

Alhaji Kabir Babba Kaita PDP

Following the recently concluded Katsina North Senatorial district bye-election where APC candidate emerged as the winner of the election, two brothers participated and contested against themselves.

Katsina North Senatorial District is President Buhari's senatorial zone, and the eldest of the two brothers, Kabir Babba Kaita PDP, is a retired Custom Officer, and he contested against his younger brother Ahmad Babba Kaita of the APC.

However, the PDP candidate alleges massive voters inducement in the process and how dangerous it portends for the 2019 elections.

In his words:

"The votes which I garnered in the election were genuine, devoid of any form of enticement either in terms of money or material things. The votes which the people cast for me, were purely based on the voters' belief that I can deliver, based on my previous achievements in my community and in the larger society. For instance, at our ward, Galadima Ward  A, I scored 179 while the APC candidate scored 110. And people say charity begins at home. For people to accept you outside, you must be good and accepted in your home.'"

"The APC government, both at the state and at the federal levels, was involved in vote buying. I did not lose that election. It was widely in circulation that over N1bn was (allegedly) used by the ruling party, (the APC) on that election alone. Half a million naira was also said to have been (allegedly) earmarked for each of the 1,825 polling units in the senatorial district. This huge amount of money was supposed to be used to enhance the lives of the people of the state. Instead, the money was wrongly used to buy votes and in a very, very undemocratic manner. This development actually, did not speak well of a ruling party, which is claiming to be fighting corruption. This has clearly shown that corruption is at its peak by what we saw at the polling units on that day, during the election."
