The Peoples Democratic Party Imo State Chapter having authoritatively reviewed the antecedence of the APC government under Governor Rochas Okorocha with regard to local government council elections since he assumed office as the governor of Imo State from 2011 till date, and the "ADVICE" given by the Supreme Court of Nigeria in the matter between Imo State government and ALGON Imo State, that both parties should maintain the status quo pending the determination of the suit at the Supreme Court, we hereby state categorically, that the PDP Imo State Chapter shall not participate in the purported local government council election coming up on Saturday, 25th August 2018, as it is not only fraudulent, but an affront to Imo electorates.

Furthermore, the PDP Imo State Chapter, having also viewed the recent activities of ISIEC with regard to the said election, sees ISIEC as not independent and as such, being an appendage of the APC government under Governor Rochas Okorocha cannot really conduct any election talk less of a credible, free and fair election in Imo State.

Osun Assembly Member Defects From APC To PDP, As Aregbesola’s Appointee Resigns

Posted: 23 Aug 2018 01:47 PM PDT

Clement Akanni,

An Osun Assembly Member representing Ila State Constituency, Hon. Clement Akanni, on Thursday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hon. Akanni, narrating the rationale behind his defection at the palace of Orangun of Ila, said he was forced out of the APC by those he considered as political adversaries, accusing the party of reneging in all its promises to his community.

According to the Lawmaker, "Our College of Education used to have 33,000 students, it now has less than 2,000. APC promised to upgrade our institution to university all to no avail.

"Rather than upgrading the institution, the current government, through it's policies is gradually killing the institution.

"Can you believe that when government wanted to downsize the workforce in the state-owned higher institutions, 73 names were selected from College of Education, Ila, while 38 names were penciled down for retrenchment from Ilesha College of Education?"

"I vehemently resisted this. I told my colleagues in the House of Assembly that Ilesha College has more staffers than lla, yet has lesser number of staffers that would be retrenched.

"Whenever I tried to positively influence government policies to favour my constituents, some people in APC would say no. Two of my followers were killed through fetish means. I can't continue with a party full of devilish officials," he said.

Chief Ejemu of Ila, Paul Ogunrinade, while speaking on behalf of the community, demanded upgrade of Ila College of Education to university, urging the PDP flag bearer, Ademola Adeleke, to pay attention to all the challenges in the community if elected governor.

In a related development, Elder Peter Babalola, the chairman, Osun Local Government Service Commission, and a chieftain of APC in the state, has reportedly resigned his position.

Elder Babalola, who was one of the aspirants that contested APC governorship ticket in which Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola eventually emerged winner, explained in a letter addressed to Governor Rauf Aregbesola that he resigned to pursue other endeavours.

My Impeachment Will Damage Economy - Trump Says

Posted: 23 Aug 2018 01:55 PM PDT

Donald Trump

US President Donald Trump has responded to speculation that he might be impeached by warning that any such move would damage the economy.

In an interview with Fox & Friends, he said the market would crash and "everybody would be very poor".

He was speaking after Michael Cohen, his ex-lawyer, pleaded guilty to violating election laws and said he had been directed to do so by Mr Trump.

Mr Trump has rarely spoken about the prospect of being impeached.

Correspondents say it is unlikely Mr Trump's opponents would try to impeach him before November's mid-term elections.

Speaking in the interview, President Trump said: "I don't know how you can impeach somebody who's done a great job.

"I tell you what, if I ever got impeached, I think the market would crash, I think everybody would be very poor."

Pointing to his head, he said: "Because without this thinking, you would see numbers that you wouldn't believe in reverse."

Cohen had said that he handled hush money payments to two women during the 2016 presidential campaign.

The two women, thought to be porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal, both claimed they had affairs with Mr Trump,

Under oath, Cohen had said he had paid the money "at the direction" of Mr Trump, "for the principal purpose of influencing the election".

However, Mr Trump insisted the two payments had not broken election campaign rules.

He said that the payments had come from him personally, not from the campaign, but he had not known about them until "later on".

In July, Cohen released audio tapes of him and Mr Trump allegedly discussing one of the payments before the election.

The president also accused Cohen of making up stories to receive a lighter sentence.

He added: "And by the way, he pled to two counts that aren't a crime, which nobody understands.

"In fact, I watched a number of [TV] shows. Sometimes you get some pretty good information by watching shows. Those two counts aren't even a crime. They weren't campaign finance."(BBC)

PDP Has Revealed How Thier Presidential Candidate Will Emerge

Posted: 23 Aug 2018 01:53 PM PDT

PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of the 2019 Presidential election, has ruled out any possibility of micro-zoning its ticket to a particular geopolitical zone in the north.

Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, disclosed this in reaction to a call by the lawmaker representing Kano Central senatorial district, Rabiu Kwankwaso, that the PDP should pick its presidential candidate from the North-West to stand a better chance of ousting All Progressives Congress, APC, from Aso Rock in 2019.

According to PoliticsNGR report, Ologbondiyan, who had often insisted that the leadership of the party would not stand in the way of delegates in the determination of the PDP flag bearer for the 2019 presidential election, noted that all aspirants would reach out to delegates to present their plans for Nigerians ahead of the polls.

Kola said:

"Senator Kwankwaso said what in his opinion, represents the best option for the PDP but as a party that is democratic, there is no way we will shut out any aspirant because of where he comes from.

"The party has encouraged them (aspirants) to reach out to Nigerians and present their plans so that at the end, the one that will emerge the candidate will carry the others along.

"I repeat, we are not going to shut anybody out of the presidential race because we believe each of these aspirants has what it takes to outperform President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC if given the opportunity to preside over the affairs of this nation."

The North-West currently has formidable aspirants on the platform of the PDP, including Senator Ahmed Makarfi, former governor of Kaduna State, his Kano and Sokoto states' counterparts, Ibrahim Shekarau, and Attahiru Bafarawa respectively as well as erstwhile Special Duties Minister, Tanimu Turaki, and businessman, Sen. Datti Baba-Ahmed.

Man Embarks On 'R.I.P. APC' Trek From Lagos To Abuja To Protest Buhari's Re-election Bid

Posted: 23 Aug 2018 08:45 AM PDT

Isa Mohammed Munlaila

A Nigerian young man by name Isa Mohammed Munlaila, has embarked on a trek from Lagos to Abuja to express his dissatisfaction with the present administration.

Isa dressed in a black T-Shirt and with a box painted in what seemed like the colours of the All Progressives Congress flag — green, white, blue and red on his head — stated that the walk is also to protest against the re-election bid of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Addressing newsmen on Thursday morning as he prepared to commence his journey, as reported by PM News, Munlaila, who wore dark glasses and carried the box on his head, lamented that there is suffering in the country, and that the present administration has failed in fulfilling its campaign promises.

It could be recalled that this would not be the first time a Nigerian is embarking on a long-distance trek for political reasons.

Recall in April 2015, 33-year-old Hashimu Suleiman trekked from Lagos to Abuja to celebrate President Muhammadu Buhari's election victory.

Abubakar Duduwale, a diehard fan of President Buhari, also trekked from Yola to Abuja to witness the presidential inauguration in May 2015 and according to media reports, however, Abubakar is still dealing with a leg injury arising from that trip.

Arewa Youth Say They Won’t Allow South-West Impose President On Nigeria Like 2015

Posted: 23 Aug 2018 08:20 AM PDT

Alhaji Yerima Shettima

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, AYCF, has stated that it will not allow the political scenario of 2015 play itself out again, where the North was purportedly turned into a mere observer in who represents the region in a presidential election.

According AYCF,  it has noticed that step by step, the country was being pushed back to the political scenario of 2015, in which the South-West region dominated decision-making efforts on who should be Nigeria's president.

The Forum noted that the North, out of modesty, merely allowed that "historic" imposition which has made the region's first four years wasted years of poverty, hunger, unemployment, general underdevelopment and disturbing levels of stagnation.

In a statement from AYCF, made available to DAILY POST on Sunday afternoon by its National President, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, said,

"As a group of citizens from the North, who mince no words in speaking the truth every time, we are once again sounding a note of warning as follows:

READ ALSOBuhari has disappointed Nigerians – Arewa Youth Forum

"We will no longer tolerate the kind of imposition that brought the nation's economy to knees and all we now get is empty propaganda instead of performance. This is an insult on the sensibilities of all Nigerians who struggled to drive away the military in order to pave way for democracy

"Even though the consensus is that power should reside within the North in 2019, we make bold to say no one should dare try to teleguide the region and its people this time around. Northerners have a right to their democratic aspirations and choice of a President and no one should try to usurp such constitutional power through the backdoor.

"We want to make it vary clear that the era of imposition of anyone on the North is gone. We are watching, very closely, the turn of events on Nigeria's democratic space at the moment and won't take any form of manipulation by people who know little or nothing about the kind of leadership the people of the North want.

"We cannot fathom why people outside the North should turn our region into their political experiment field, choosing a candidate who would take orders from them and abandon his own people's wishes and aspirations.

"This is primitive, unacceptable and a smear on well-known democratic principles of a modern, independent nation that we have been in over 50 years.

"The earlier this shameful manipulation of our hopes in democracy is stopped, the better for our relationship with our neighbours. On no account should anyone take the North for granted again, especially on the matter of 2019 presidency. We are no fools and the world has come a long way from the era of political obscurantism and harmful patronage.

"We also find it disheartening that the Northwest is now slowly going into the hands of toxic political class, whose political madness has now reached alarming levels. How else can anyone, in his right senses, explain the emergence of Nine(9) presidential candidates all from one geopolitical zone? What has gone wrong with the North's sense of decency in politics?

"Imagine the exemplary style of the Northeast, which has just two candidates! Isn't that a lesson for the scattered and uncoordinated Northwest? If this mess is not tackled, the next generation of Northern political leaders will never forgive us for being so callous and reckless politics. And we won't fold our arms and watch this happen.

READ ALSOAtiku Meets With Leaders Of Arewa, Yoruba And Ohanaeze Youth Groups

"We also declare that our plans are already in top gear, to use all constitutional means to protect the integrity of the North by stopping those political merchants from elsewhere who are turning our region into their experimental guinea pig. We have overlooked this political subjugation in 2015, to give democracy a chance and also not to jeopardise the alliance between the North and its neighbours. But now that there are deliberate efforts by some political merchants to repeat the same ridiculous manipulation, we are telling them that it's no longer possible.

"There are so many ways of promoting the deepening of democracy in Nigeria, but open and shameless manipulation is not one of them. We hope this message would serve as a final warning to those plotting for the imposition of their lackeys as presidents for selfish political gains. We have heard enough of this insult on the North just because some self-centred political marauders are being driven by the hunger for absolute power. Enough is enough."

Ini Okopido, Chairman of the APC in the State,  blamed PDP for the alleged attack on the former Senate Minority Leader, in his home town at Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

According to Anietie, a retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Udom Ekpoudom, was seen making frantic calls for increased security to help repel the attack.

The APC Chairman in the State, in a statement on Wednesday said the "unprovoked attack" on Akpabio's residence was uncalled for.

"The APC family will not tolerate such unwarranted attack on any of her members/leaders. The hoodlums, while shooting sporadically around the environment, robbed passers-by and a nearby petrol station.

"Even though the incidence was promptly reported to the state Commissioner of Police by the retired Deputy Inspector-General, Udom Ekpoudom, who witnessed the attack and the CP responded by sending police reinforcement to the scene, such an action by unguided miscreants is unacceptable and condemnable.

"Politicians should play by the rules to forestall reprisals," he added.
