For context, check out the previous entry. Here is the intro to this week's roll, an overview of the Zelda franchise, its history, and how it has transformed wildly over time: Like the shower scene in Psycho, The Legend of Zelda is something you probably know about even if you are not a hardcore fan. The green hat, the princess, the light that explodes outward when you open a treasure box -- these are things that have entered the public lexicon at some level. How did Zelda become the iconic fantasy world that it is, the video game equivalent of Star Wars or Lord of the Rings? How did its game design transform its stereotypical fantasy tropes into something more, propelling it to David Lynch-levels of weirdness in its later installments?
