Osun Decides 2018: INEC Responds To Report Of Staff Caught ‘Altering’ Election Results

Posted: 25 Sep 2018 06:11 PM PDT

INEC

A staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was caught on Sunday while tearing election result for the Osun Governorship election, held Saturday, 22nd of September, 2018.

The said staff claimed he was sent by his boss, Mrs. Aderinoye Olukemi, the electoral officer in the Ayedaade, Local Government Area.

Below is a publication by PREMIUM TIMES of the details of INEC speak on the incident:

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has clarified the conduct of its staff, Mutiu Salawu, caught on Sunday at St. Patrick Grammar School, Gbongan, tearing the polls result for Ayedaade Local Government Area.

A video of the incident has gone viral online. In the video, Mr. Salawu said he was sent by the electoral officer for the LGA, Aderinoye Olukemi, to tear the result on the notice board at the collation centre of the LGA.

However, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC in Osun State, Segun Agbaje, in a statement on Tuesday explained Mr. Salawu was acting on a directive to replace the Form EC 60 which had erroneous result with the correct one.

He said the directive was given to Mr Salawu by Mrs Olukemi after she received information from the local government security chief of an error on the form pasted at the collation centre.

"Mr. Mutiu Salawu, being a dutiful staff, went to carry out the lawful instruction of his boss when he was accosted by a mob that rough-handled him before they took him to Adelani Rafiu Oyediran Ajanaku's house along the New Gbongan Osogbo Road.

"There, he was humiliated, harassed and subjected to take manipulated photographs that were sent to various social digital platforms. He was then brought to the INEC State Office where he was harassed by some section of the media", Mr. Agbaje narrated.

He said when the matter was raised by Dele Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent at the state collation centre, the original copies of the results sheets, forms EC 8A, EC 8B and EC 8C, for the LGA were examined and found to be the correct reflection of the results as reported by the LGA Collation Officer, Ayotunde Adeagbo, a staff of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).

"The LGA Collation Officer, Prof. Adeagbo, accepted the fact that there was an error in the EC 60 (E) pasted at the LGA Collation Centre, especially the figure (10,836) recorded for PDP on the poster which is different from the actual votes scored (9,836) by the PDP.

"It should be noted that the INEC staff, Salawu Mutiu Kolawole, did not destroy the Result Sheet for the said election for they are intact in the custody of the Commission and copies of same are with agents of the 48 political parties that contested the Governorship Election."

Mr. Agbaje expressed INEC's displeasure that a section of the media reportedly broadcast the event without verification.

"The Commission is displeased with the conduct of a section of the press that repeatedly broadcast the event maliciously without proper investigation to know the true position of things. This attitude has misinformed the public and INEC has been misrepresented in the narrative," he said.

Mr Agbaje also spoke about the rerun poll scheduled for Thursday.

"In Ife North, Ward 10, PU2, number of votes was more than accredited voters. Ife South, Olode Ward 07, PU12, Adereti Village, there was disruption of election by hoodlums who shot sporadically and in the process of scampering for safety, the Presiding Officer misplaced the form EC8A for the PU and all efforts to get it proved abortive.

"Ife South Osi Ward 8 PU10, Aluti Erin Primary School, Albert village, election was conducted with manual accreditation.

"In Orolu Ward 08 PU001, Kajola village, there was hijacking of materials by thugs. The case was not different in Ward 08 PU004 Idi Iya village and Ward 09 PU 003 Gbogbo Primary School in Orolu. Presiding Officer absconded in Osogbo Ataoja Ward 05 PU 017 Adewole Street.

"The total number of registered voters in these places is 3,498," the resident electoral commissioner stated.

INEC, however, promised never to jeopardise the will of Osun people.

In the inconclusive election, Ademola Adeleke of the PDP scored 254, 698 votes to beat his All Progressives Congress (APC) rival, Gboyega Oyetola, who polled 254, 345 votes.

Mr Adeleke could not be returned because his margin of victory, 353 votes, was lower than the number of votes cancelled reported as 3,498.

The Returning Officer, Joseph Fuwape, explained that he could therefore not return any candidate, given the provision of the law.

Strike Begins Sept 26 Over New Minimum Wage, Start Preparing – Labour Tells Nigerians

Posted: 25 Sep 2018 05:38 PM PDT

Labour

The organised labour in Nigeria, Monday began preparations for its planned nationwide strike over Federal Government's delay in the implementation of a new National Minimum Wage.

Labour in their statement Monday, reminded Nigerians that the 14-day ultimatum issued to the federal government expires September 26 and urged everyone to be prepared.

The President, United Labour Congress (ULC), Mr. Joe Ajaero, said this in a communique issued after its meeting on Monday in Lagos.

According to the Daily Post, Ajaero said that if the government failed to meet their demand on the expiration of the ultimatum, it would collaborate with other labour centres and Civil Society Organisations to embark on a nation-wide strike.

"We shall no longer be obliged by this time to give any further notice to the government before embarking on the action.

"By this communique, we order all our affiliates and state councils nationwide to move to the final level of alert in their preparation for the proposed nationwide strike," he said.

The labour leader said that a new national minimum wage was desirable and possible; adding that lack of patriotism, greed and corruption was the bane of a reasonable wage.

Meanwhile the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has empowered the National Administrative Council (NAC) and its leadership to carry out all necessary actions in conjunction with other stakeholders to ensure the achievement of the minimum wage.

My ADC Defrauded A Lot Of People, But I Didn't Order His Arrest - Aisha Buhari

Posted: 25 Sep 2018 03:31 PM PDT

Mrs. Aisha Buhari

The wife of the president, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, has denied media reports that she ordered the arrest of her aide-de-camp, CSP Sani Baban-Inna.

The ADC who is currently under going interrogation over allegations of fraud amounting to over N2.5 billion, was arrested yesterday.

According to a statement by Mr. Suleiman Haruna, Director of Information to Wife of the President, issued on Tuesday, however, refuted rumours going around in the media that Mrs. Aisha Buhari had a hand in the arrest of the ADC.

While acknowledging that the ADC did indeed use his position to defraud people, insisted that his employers, the Nigeria Police Force, arrested him "to investigate allegations levelled against him".

Mr. Haruna said:

"The attention of wife of the President, Dr. Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has been drawn to some media publications and releases purporting illegal detention of her Aide De Camp (ADC) over allegations of fraud.

"The story, as it pertains to her ADC, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sani Baban-Inna, has it that he has been detained on the orders of Her Excellency for dropping her name and defrauding unsuspecting officials and associates. She wishes to use this opportunity to refute such allegation and to state that she has no hand in his arrest and detention.

"CSP Sani Baban-Inna has been her ADC since 2016 and has been associated with her ever since. To the utter dismay of Her Excellency, he has used the opportunity to defraud unsuspecting associates and officials as initial investigations have shown.

"The Nigeria Police Force, his employers, arrested him to investigate the allegations levelled against him, this, being within their jurisdiction.

"She therefore wishes to use this opportunity to inform the general public that she has never sent any of her staff to collect any favours on her behalf or on behalf of her children and will never do so. She is therefore imploring anyone that has been defrauded by Mr. Baban-Inna to get across to him to retrieve whatever he took from them. Mrs. Buhari wishes to reiterate that she will not condone fraudulent behaviour by any of her staff.

"She uses this opportunity to call on all those in positions of authority to rise above intimidation by their aides and deal with such attitudes as extortion by name-dropping, especially within the Presidency. As she always emphasises, this government was voted into office based on the trust and confidence of the people."

APC Expose A Big Mole Planted By Opposition In The Party

Posted: 25 Sep 2018 03:19 AM PDT

Ali Modu Sheriff

Ali Modu Sheriff has been accused of being a mole in the All Progressives Congress, APC, planted by the opposition. The Bornu politician has however denied the allegations of being a mole in the party.

According to media reports, "Sheriff was being accused by his former aide, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, who is now in Governor Kashim Shettima's camp."

Sheriff, in a statement responding to the accusation, spoke through an associate Alhaji Tijjani Bukar, said "Bwala is a big shame for not being able to stand for the truth no matter the situation."

According to Modu Sheriff, "he is aware that the Borno governor, Shettima is allegedly behind the blackmail and they have been using Bwala to get at him."

"I am aware that since they send police to arrest Inuwa Bwala in Abuja for attempted murder on the deputy governor, Usman Mamman Durkwa during the last election, the case has been going on even as we speak. Now they are using that case against him (Inuwa), and have succeeded in putting him down. So now they use him the way they wanted."

"I am committed to APC and President Muhammadu Buhari and In sha Allah the truth is a light and would always come out."

"All political activities in Maiduguri have been taking place in that hall which belongs to my wife regardless of political party and I cannot stoop low to put myself into matters of renting hall."

"People should know that Ali Sheriff is not a local business man to go on renting a hall to politicians. I think nobody in his right senses would agree to what Mr. Bwala is saying, but I know he is only satisfying his paid master and this is a big shame for him."

" It is also a pity that he has such a weak heart to go down too soon having been trained as a journalist to stand for the truth," Sheriff added.
