Indian £500,000,000 Fraudster Absconds To Nigeria

Posted: 27 Sep 2018 12:09 AM PDT

Nitin Sandesara

The Indian Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has asked the Interpol unit of Nigeria to locate the owner of Sterling Biotech, Nitin Sandesara and his family members there.

The development comes a day after TOI exclusively reported that Nitin Sandesara, his brother Chetan Sandesara and sister-in-law Deeptiben Sandesara have moved to Nigeria from UAE.

Highly places sources told TOI that Sandesaras could be hiding at Victoria Island, Lagos from where they run their oil exploration company – Sterling Oil Exploration and Energy Production Company Limited (SEEPCO). Sandesaras reportedly run four oil rigs from the same addresses – Plot Number 205, Abiola Segun Ajayi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, according to the sources.

Watch video below:

Several employees of Sterling companies in Nigeria were abruptly removed from jobs in last few years as investigations began against the group.

TOI tried to contact several former and current employees of companies of Sandesaras but could not reach them. The company's phone numbers in Nigeria are also non-operational. The company claims that SEEPCO is the only private company with Indian patronage to produce oil from any OPEC country.

Officials hinted that Nitin Sandesara still has a lot of clout in Nigeria as he has four oil production companies there and he could still be making huge money in dollars as investigations against him in India doesn't affect his businesses abroad, especially Nigeria where there are chances that he can influence the authorities with money.

CBI sources said that if Sandesaras' are traced in Nigeria, they will consider sending a formal request for their deportation as there is no extradition treaty with Nigeria.

TOI exclusively reported on Monday that Sandesaras are not in Dubai anymore and they have fled to Nigeria.

Earlier reports about his detention in Dubai in August, 2018 were incorrect, according to the officials.

It is not known if the Sandesaras travelled to Nigeria on Indian passports or some other country's document.

The CBI and the ED have booked Vadodara-based Sterling Biotech, its directors Nitin, Chetan and Dipti Sandesara, Rajbhushan Omprakash Dixit, Vilas Joshi, chartered accountant Hemant Hathi, former Andhra Bank director Anup Garg and unidentified persons for cheating banks of Rs 5,000 crore.

The ED arrested Delhi-based businessman Gagan Dhawan and Garg and attached assets worth Rs 4,700 crore of the pharmaceutical firm in June.

However, officials said bringing the Sandesaras back to India to face criminal trial was important as they had diverted huge amounts of money abroad.

It is alleged that the Sandesaras set up more than 300 shell and benami companies in India and abroad which were used to divert loans. Investigators are trying to find out about their properties and businesses in Africa.

PDP Finally Reveals Who Will Give Adeleke Victory In Osun Rerun

Posted: 26 Sep 2018 06:03 PM PDT

Senator Ademola Adeleke

Nigeria's major political opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has finally rested their hope in God, it said, 'God will grant its candidate in the Osun State governorship election,  Senator Ademola Adeleke victory in the Thursday's rerun election'.

Mr. Eddy Olafeso, the party's National Vice Chairman, South South, made the assertion while insisting that the party was hoping on God, not individuals.

He stated that the party has already won the supplementary election.

Olafeso made this declaration, while addressing journalists in Abuja, on Thursday;

"For us, we are very confident that victory will be ours tomorrow. We already won anyway.

"We met with the leaders but victory is in the hands of God… even if people play around, God will not play around. He'll determine the outcome of the election."

The politician, also accused the All Progressives Congress, APC, of taking the state backwards.

"What is on ground is clear to all: eight years of total profligacy in Osun State. We will continue to speak with leaders, some of them will listen to us while some will do their own thing," he said.

"PDP is not bothered because our people are resolute. And they are desirous in ensuring that the victory denied us on Saturday will eventually be ours.

"We have spoken to our people and we are certain that their experience from the current administration is enough for the need for a change that will bring development to the nation."

Breaking: Adeleke Writes Diplomatic Mission, Allege Threat To His Life

Posted: 26 Sep 2018 09:25 AM PDT

Senator Ademola Adeleke

Senator Ademola Adeleke,  the governorship candidate of the major opposition in Nigeria, the  Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,  has written to the diplomatic missions in Nigeria, raising alarm over threats to his life and alleged clamp down on his supporters ahead of Thursday's rerun election in his state, the Osun State.

The Senator in the letter already dispatched to diplomatic missions, enumerated the many infractions in the last Saturday polls, the refusal of INEC to declare him the winner in line with the constitution, the killing and maiming of his supporters ,the arrest of key leaders on trumped up charges and the manipulations of the electoral process.

According to the Vanguard newspaper, the letter was sent to the European Union,United States and several diplomatic missions in Nigeria and the United Nations.

‎The letter reads in part:

"I am constrained to write this letter to intimate you, our diplomatic partners and friends of despotic happenings in Osun governorship polls which I won but for which I was not declared the winner. My life is under threat and leaders of my party are under siege before and after Saturday's main polls.

"During the campaigns, we were subjected to countless attacks.I escaped about four assassination attempts. Our campaign vehicles were severally attacked and our rallies disrupted. We went through the pre-election process under constant onslaught from political thugs and merchants of violence.

"Despite the violence prone climate ,I still won the election. On live television, our votes were removed and protestations for re-addition of the votes were rejected. "Votes for the ruling party were jerked up and again the electoral umpire refused to correct the arithmetical errors. After all the manipulations which saw about 4000 votes removed from my total votes ,I still won by close to 400 votes.

"In a brazen assault on democracy ,the returning officer in open breach of the constitution refused to declare me the winner even after fulfilling constitutional stipulations. The officer erroneously justified declaration of the election as inconclusive based on violence in seven out of about 3000 voting units across the state. It was a travesty of justice that is under challenge in court of law.‎

"Not satisfied with that rape of democracy, the ruling, APC immediately launched a coordinated manipulation agenda to rig the Thursday supplementary polls.Voters register of affected areas are been doctored ;unclaimed voters cards are been shared out;massive vote buying are ongoing ;and my supporters are been hounded.Democracy is clearly under threats.

"The agenda of the ruling party is to ensure that votes do not count. The target is to thwart the will of the people. The APC is out to subvert the will of the people ,an action that will have deeply negative impact on the sanctity of the electoral process ahead of 2019 polls."

While calling on the international community "to prevail on President Muhammad Buhari to allow votes to count by restoring my mandate" the PDP candidate said: "We count on you to mount pressure on the ruling party to restore people's mandate in Osun state"

"We make this request because Osun state is the cradle of Yoruba people.Denying them their inalienable right to pick their governor is a potent threat to democratic sustainability in Nigeria. Our nascent democracy has been under intense pressure and it is not in our collective interest to deepen the national stress index.

"We seek your intervention to prevent another rigging underway in Osun state. I am the holder of the sacred mandate of Osun people. We need the international community to assist Nigeria to make votes count",he said.

Man Who Set Out On Trek To Abuja Protesting Buhari’s Second Term Bid Arrives After 34 Days

Posted: 26 Sep 2018 04:06 AM PDT

Isa Munlaila

A young who decided to trek to Abuja from Lagos,  in protest against President Muhammadu Buhari's 2019 presidential ambition, Isa Munlaila, has arrived Abuja, Tuesday, after 34 days, stressing that the country needs an experienced leader to pilot its affairs in 2019.

It could be recalled that Isa Munlaila took off with the trek from Lagos on August 23 to Abuja, condemning the leadership style adopted by President Buhari's administration and why Nigerians must not allow him to vie for the office during next year's poll.

According to the Vanguard, on Munlaila arrival in Abuja, the lone trekker, in a telephone interview, expressed his fulfilment in performing the feat, which was against the second term aspiration of Buhari.

The lone trekker Munlaila, while narrating his ordeal, said:

"As I trekked, I saw people angry with this present government because of hardship and failure to deliver on what was promised. When people saw me, they hailed me for trekking. Some people were asking me if I was doing it for some political parties and I said no, but for the youths of this country. We are for good governance."

Munlaila, who however declared his support for Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential aspirant, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said:

"Because of what I have heard during my trek, I will endorse Atiku for 2019 presidency. If Atiku has the chance to govern, Nigeria will be a better place."

Apple Acquires Shazam Finally For $400 Million

Posted: 26 Sep 2018 04:41 PM PDT

Apple

Apple has been confirmed to have finally secured the acquisition of popular song identification app Shazam in a mouth watering deal worth $400 million. Apple has always been a huge player in the music industry since it bought Beat by Dr Dre luxury headphone company few years ago not to mention it's own Apple music store.

According to Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music, he said "Apple and Shazam have a long history together.

Shazam was one of the first apps available when we launched the App Store and has become a favorite app for music fans everywhere." Shazam is the most popular song identifying app in the world, it has over 1 billion downloads and is used to identify music over 20 million times a day.

All you have to do is make the app listen to the music for some seconds and it will tell you the name and the artist. It will even display the artist's picture or album cover. Really cute.

As far as Shazam is concerned, the surprising thing for me is how it is able to identify lyrics of our own Nigerian songs correctly and still give us the correct answer considering the fact that our music is full of slang words and mixture of Pidgin, Yoruba and Igbo languages, lol.

The best part of this news for users is the fact that Apple has promised to get rid of all those annoying ads that keeps popping up each time the app is being used. It might interest you to know that Apple has already indicated interest in buying Shazam since last year but the deal was being stall because of European Union over potential antitrust concerns but finally gave the deal a go ahead. Despite the fact that Shazam is so popular, the company has been struggling to make profit ever since it was launched.
