See The 14 Questions, Atiku Asked Buhari

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 06:41 PM PDT

Buhari and Atiku

The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, has hit at President Muhammadu Buhari again raising 14 questions for the President and the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Atiku's camp said the government and the ruling party had abandoned governance and taken up the full duty of hurling insults at the former Vice President.

In a statement by the spokesman of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, Segun Sowunmi, on Wednesday, the former Vice President charged the government and the APC to name one project started and completed by Buhari, one youth in the cabinet or one terrorist arrested and convicted by the government, among other things.

"It has come to our attention that the Buhari government and the All Progressives Congress have been very idle of late, which explains their abandonment of the vital duties of running the government in order to focus on hurling insults and false accusations on the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, His Excellency, Atiku Abubakar," he said.

The statement added, "In order to give Nigerians the answers they want, we urge the Buhari Campaign Organisation to take the #BuhariChallenge and answer the following questions.

"Name one project initiated, started and completed in the last three years by the Buhari administration.

"Name one youth in President Buhari's cabinet.

"Name one campaign promise President Buhari has kept.

"Name one Southerner heading a National Intelligence Agency under Buhari.

"Name one terrorist arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned by the Buhari administration.

"Name one Buhari government official arrested, tried, convicted and imprisoned by the Buhari administration over their many budget padding scandals.

"Name one member of the Buhari administration fingered in corruption that was fired, arrested and currently facing trial.

"Name one former President or Head of State that has not been blamed by President Buhari for the precarious state of the economy he led us into.

"Name one year that Nigeria's GDP grew faster than her population under Buhari (for 16 years of PDP administrations, Nigeria's GDP always grew faster than population growth).

"Name the initiatives the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria being named the world headquarters for extreme poverty under Buhari.

"Name one initiative the Buhari government has put in place to address Nigeria having the world's highest number of out of school children (13.2 million according to the United Nations Children Fund).

"Name the date the Ogoni cleanup will begin. · Name what President Buhari has done with the ₦13 trillion loans he has taken in 3 years (compared to the ₦6 trillion borrowed by the PDP in 16 years).

"Name the real owners of the Ikoyi Apartment billions.

"These are the issues the Nigerian people want to hear about, not insults from a Presidency and a party that have spent three years in office only to preside over Nigeria's first ever recession in 25 years.

"We urge the Buhari administration to remember that it is this disinterest in real governance and focus on trivia that caused Bill Gates to look President Buhari in the eye and tell him that 'your economic blueprint does not address Nigerians' needs'.

"The Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation runs an issue based campaign where refined language and cerebral arguments founded on facts are used to disseminate the vision of our candidate which is why we call on the Buhari Campaign Organisation to waste no time in taking the #BuhariChallenge in clearing the air on these knotty issues bothering the minds of Nigerians."

Reps Set For Fight With IGP Ibrahim Idris Over Detention Of Lawmaker

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 05:58 PM PDT

Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris

The House of Representatives are warming up for a showdown with the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris over what they called the detention of a Lawmaker.

Read this report below as published by The Guardian

The House of Representatives, on Wednesday threatened to summon the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, if Rep. Abubakar Lado (APC-Niger) arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was not released within 12 hours.
Lado currently represents Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency of Niger State.

The development was sequel to a motion moved under the matters of urgent public importance by Rep. Toby Okechukwu (PDP-Enugu) at the first plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr Yakubu Dogara.

Okechukwu said the lawmaker had been on detention for three days against the constitutional prescription, saying the House was briefed that his detention arose out of issues related to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries.

According to him, Lado had abinitio notified the police authorities of efforts to cause crisis by his opponents.

"The House is aware that the invitation of Lado was not done through due process and therefore breaches the Legislative Powers and Privileges Act which requires notification of presiding officer before any member is invited or arrested.

"The House is aware of the detention of Lado by SARS.

"The House is further aware of his continued detention for the past three days. The action offends the Nigerian constitution and amount to inhuman and degrading treatment,'' he said.
Okechukwu said it was embarrassing that the intervention of the leadership of the House was rebuffed by the police.

"The intervention of the House leadership was rebuffed by the Nigerian police ostensibly because it is only the Governor of Niger State, Mr Abubakar Bello, that can give instruction for his release," he said.

Contributing, Rep Nnenna Ukeje (PDP-Abia), who called for his immediate release, said it was disheartening the manner with which the police flouted the law.

"If people of this calibre can be treated with such disdain, you can imagine what the 180 million Nigerians go through on a daily basis'', she said.

Rep. Osai Osai (PDP-Delta), who noted that the responsibility of the reformed SARS is to arrest robbery and kidnapping culprits, said the organisation had gone beyond its mandate.

On his part, Rep Olawale Raji (APC-Lagos) narrated that members who visited the SARS office where the lawmaker was detained were treated with disdain.

"They were very rude to those of us that visited Lado in the detention and so many Nigerians are suffering the same treatment by the police.

"The conduct of the Nigerian Police Force, particularly the SARS, is absurd'', he said.

Raji, who called on the House to order the IGP to release their member within 24 hours or suspend further sittings until he is released, said urgent action should be taken.

Rep Segun Adekola (PDP-Ekiti) said the situation called for a sober reflection as effort must be made to stop the impunity in the country.

He`, therefore, supported Raji's motion that the House be shut down should the police fail to release Lado.
However, the Leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila (APC-Lagos), moved that IGP Idris be invited if the police failed to release Lado within 12 hours.

Gbajabiamila, who was among the delegation that visited the lawmaker in detention, also described the attitude of the police officers as unfriendly.

He expressed concern over the detention of the legislator by SARS, saying "the responsibility of SARS is embedded in its name; Special Anti-Robbery Squad''.

"They told us his offence was a case of "two fighting". And we asked where the other person, who is the chairman of the council is, they said he is not here.

"They said we should go and see the IG and when we got to his office, we couldn't see him. They told us the only person that can release him is the governor'', he said.

The lawmaker said if nothing was done, Lado would continue to be in detention even till next week on the pretext of two fighting.

"This is impunity and something needs to be done. Our colleague is being harassed as I saw him yesterday.

"My amendment to this is that should we not be able to release him today, the IGP
should come to this House tomorrow and tell us why any citizen should be held for three days.

"When the offence for which he is being charged with is not a capital offence and should tell us why the other person is walking freely.

"The government is being given a bad name and I am sure that the government is not aware of this. It was just some bad and overzealous elements doing this," he said.

In addition, Rep. Simon Arabo (PDP-Kaduna) said for denying their colleague the chance to contribute in the proceedings, he urged the House to charge the case to court.

When the Speaker, Mr Dogara, put the question on a voice vote, lawmakers who stood down the suggestion to suspend further sittings, however, gave IGP Idris 12 hours to release Lado or be invited for questioning.

The speaker instructed that a letter be given to the House leader who leads a delegation to the IGP.

He also directed the Clerk of the House to ensure that the case was filed in court.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rep Lado and the current Chairman of the Suleja Local Government Area, Abdullahi Maje, vied for the Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency primaries of the APC in Niger State.

Vice President Prof Yemi Osinbajo

Bishop Emmah Gospel Isong, the Publicity Secretary of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has lambasted the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, for not protecting the interest of Christians.

The PFN Publicity Secretary, who was addressing newsmen in Calabar, Cross River State capital on Monday, said he was not pleased with the attitude of the Vice President.

The Man of God, who is also the General Overseer of Christian Central Chapel International, regretted the attitude of Prof Osinbajo towards Christianity in the country, the Daily Post reports.

The Bishop said, "I was one of those excited persons when I watched him delivering a lecture in a program in Owerri, then he was not the Vice President, that was close to 2015 elections,

"He is one of the best brains in Nigeria, his University should be proud of him, even the mother that born him should be proud of him but the day Osinbajo entered government and became Vice to Muhammadu Buhari, he changed.

"Somebody should tell me one thing that Prof Osinbajo has achieved for Christianity to make him to be called our own, someone from our constituency (Christianity), let him say this is what I have done for Christianity.

"I believe that Christianity has given this country the best of the best, you need to listen to him, if you listen to him and you are not moved, you are deaf and dumb.

"I am sorry to tell him now that his continuous 'siddon' look, his continuous humility and submission to the cabal in this government that is insensitive to the killing of Christians and maiming of Churches, his continuous holiness, righteousness and operation say nothing so that they will not accuse you, I am not excited at all," he added.

Gov. Fayose Sues EFCC For N20b Over Security Watch List

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 12:28 PM PDT

Mr. Ayodele Fayose, Governor of Ekiti State
Read below as published by the Nation Newspaper:

Mr. Ayodele Fayose, the Ekiti State Governor,  has made good his threat to drag the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to court for placing him on watch list.

The anti-graft agency wrote an advisory to key security agencies demanding that Fayose be arrested if he attempts to flee the country through land, sea and air borders to escape justice.

Fayose had on September 3 threatened to sue the EFCC if it fails to withdraw the advisory within 72 hours saying the action "not only breached his constitutional immunity, it also exposed him to public opium and ridicule."

He also demanded the publication of a written apology to all Security Agencies in Nigeria, three national newspapers and the social media.

It was gathered on Tuesday that Fayose, through his counsel, Mr. Obafemi Adewale, filed the suit last Friday consequent upon the failure of the EFCC to meet the governor's demands.

It should be recalled that EFCC had tweeted on July 16, 2018 through its official twitter handle @officialEFCC concerning Fayose that "The parri is over, the cloak of immunity is torn apart and the staff broken, Ekiti Integrated Poultry/Biological Concepts Limited N1.3bn fraud case file dusted off the shelves. See you soon."

In the suit marked FJC/ABJ/CS/1087/2018, Fayose is seeking among other things; an order of the Court mandating the EFCC to pay the sum of N20 billion as general damages to the for what he called "flagrant, deliberate, pre-meditated and reckless libel and unprovoked attack on his character and reputation and the breach of his constitutional right/immunity as an incumbent Governor."

He demanded that the EFCC should tender a written apology, which should be circulated to all Security Agencies in Nigeria and same should be published in at least three widely read National Newspapers and through the social media.

The governor is also seeking a declaration that the statements contained in the EFCC letter dated September 12, 2018, and addressed to all Security Agencies in Nigeria portrayed him as a criminal, a fugitive and a run-away from the law, and that the statements are not true, are malicious, are not fair statements.

He wants the court to further declare; "that the EFCC letter placing him on watch-list and directing his arrest on sight even while a sitting Governor is unconstitutional as same offends the clear provision of Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) which clothes the him with immunity against arrest and prosecution as an incumbent Governor."

"That the tweet by the Defendant (EFCC) through its official twitter handle, which was widely circulated through social media and published on Punch Newspaper (online) of 16th July, 2018, with the particulars wordings pleaded in the Statement of Claim filed along with this Writ is not true, is malicious, is not a fair statement and presents the Plaintiff as a fraudster thereby ridiculing him and reducing him in the eyes of reasonable and right-thinking members of the society."

What Bode George, Afenifere Said About PDP Vice Presidential Slot - Atiku Presidency

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 11:39 AM PDT

Chief Bode George

Chief Bode George, former Peoples Democraic Party (PDP) Deputy Chairman, has advised the party's flag bearer, Atiku Abubakar, on his choice of deputy.

The former PDP Deputy Chairman, said Atiku should consider the Southwest region, for his VP

George said this would counter the All Progressives Congress (APC) since President Buhari's vice and running mate, Yemi Osinbajo, is from the Southwest.

"I really pray for him to make the right choice. He is able and capable and I believe he can take the right decision on the choice of running mate," he told Daily Trust.

On his part, Yinka Odumakin, Afenifere spokesman, admitted that Atiku would have to consider a lot of factors.

The Afenifere spokesman said: "It is not such an easy thing; but for us, we believe if you are the President of Nigeria, you must have a way of balancing federal character so that we can have an inclusive government.

"Our strongest issue in the South West is autonomy/restructuring which he has committed to.

"So the question of position, we will allow the political parties to sort out that. For us he has made a clear commitment to restructure Nigeria and he should not depart from it."

Why Obasanjo Will Support Atiku Finally Exposed

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 10:46 AM PDT

OBJ and Atiku

Chief Ebenezer Babatope, a former Minister of Transport and member of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have given reasons former President Olusegun Obasanjo will eventually support Atiku Abubakar in 2019.

Babatope, said to be a close friend to Obasanjo said the former President will support Atiku because of his interest for Nigeria, Daily Post reports.

Speaking with Independent, Ebenezer said Obasanjo's nationalistic feelings for Nigeria will make him support Atiku despite their differences.

He said: "They don't know Obasanjo but I know Obasanjo very well. I used to be a very good friend of Obasanjo. In fact, he took me to Angola when I was at the age of 33, and eventually, he sacked me from my job.

"What I want to assure you is that when it comes to Nigeria, Obasanjo will stay with Nigeria. Whoever thinks that because Atiku has emerged, Obasanjo will be against him is making a mistake.

"Obasanjo will not go against Atiku because I believe and I think Obasanjo having led the coalition, and is still leading the coalition to ensure the removal of Buhari from power, will never discriminate against Atiku Abubakar; whatever happened between them happened when Obasanjo was President.

"Obasanjo has shown that on some occasions, he goes beyond trivialities, he is very objective. I have no doubt in my heart that eventually, Obasanjo will endorse Atiku.

It will surprise Nigerians, because he loves Nigeria, I can assure that. When he took me to Angola, he said something that it has been his wish to fight for African liberation in South Africa.

"I must confess that I don't agree with him, but nobody can fault Obasanjo's nationalistic feelings for Nigeria, and I believe that Obasanjo will definitely allow those nationalistic feelings to come to play."

Also speaking about Atiku's choice of running mate from South East, Babatope added "I think the South-East should produce a running mate. Not because I was pro-Biafra during the civil war, but I just know that the South-East is fit to provide the vice president.

"But if they want to give us in the South-West, we will be very happy. We have men who can do it, but I think it should be the South-East.

"I don't see the reason the running mate should not come from the South-East."

BREAKING: Court Nullifies APC Primaries In Rivers State - Magnus Abe vs Rotimi Amaechi

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 09:25 AM PDT

Magnus Abe and Rotimi Amaechi

Justice Chiwendu Nworgu of the High Court in Port Harcourt has made a consequential order nullifying all actions taken by the Ojukaye Flag Amachree led All Progressives Congress in Rivers state.

Justice Nworgu ordered that the nomination and subsequent election of candidates for the Governorship seat and all elective positions in the APC in the State was null, void and of no effect.

The judge in an elaborate judgement also gave an order restraining the National Leadership of the APC from recognizing the results of the May 12, 19, 20 and 21, 2018 congresses that produced Ojukaye.

He said Ibrahim Umah and twenty-two other aggrieved members of the APC were denied their constitutional rights to participate in the congresses.

He added that the congresses were done against the Electoral Act, Article 21 of the APC Constitution and guidelines of the party for the congresses.

Reacting to the judgement, Prince Azundah who represents the APC in the matter said further action will be taken against the judgement.

"We have said it before that the Judge does not have jurisdiction over this matter. The judgement is a nullifying.

Meanwhile, Counsel to Ibrahim Umah and other applicants, Henry Bello commended the court for the verdict.

Justice Chiwendu Nworgu, however, delivered the judgement against all odds.

This was according to the Judge who said there were lots of bombardment to stop the judgement.

Justice Nworgu who referred to the attack on the Rivers state Judiciary in May, said he was confronted with four petitions to the National Judicial Council challenging his integrity to hear the matter.

He also said the perpetual injunction obtained by the Ojukaye Flag Amachree-led APC from a Federal High Court in Abuja was an insult on his court because both courts were of coordinate jurisdiction.

He also went ahead to slam Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Lateef Fagbemi whom he accused of taking over the APC matter without being briefed by the Head Legal Services of the APC, Tade Oguntade.

Justice Nworgu said the attitude of the APC was a bad sign and an evil omen to the development of the country.

Ibrahim Umah and the twenty-two other aggrieved members of the APC belong to the Senator Magnus Abe-led group.

JUST IN: Federal Govt Announces Proposed New Minimum Wage

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 08:46 AM PDT

Dr. Chris Ngige

The Federal Government, has said that, after the tripartite committee discussing the new minimum wage and due consultations, it has proposed N24,000 as the new minimum wage for civil servants.

Dr. Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, said this Wednesday, while briefing State House correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

Ngige while responding to media reports quoted the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ayuba Wabba, said that the tri-partite committee discussing the demand for new minimum wage, has agreed to increase it from the current N19,200 to N30,000.

"Such information is not true," Ngige stated.

The Minister said when the committee reconvened on October 5, after the NLC had called off its nationwide strike, "the organised labour came down to N30,000, the organised private sector came down to N25,000."

He also said the federal government had to consult with the 36 state governors.

After the consultations, he said, the federal government proposed N24,000 while governors proposed N20,000.

Ngige said the government is therefore still consulting and negotiation is ongoing.

What APC, PDP Senators Have Agreed To Do Over Impeachment Threats On The Senate President

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 05:52 AM PDT

APC_PDP

The Senate Tuesday rose from a meeting and resolved to put to rest the contentious political and parliamentary issues that had distracted it ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The meeting which held behind closed doors for 20 minutes was said to have attracted expressions of serious worries by lawmakers concerning recent political disturbances in the upper chamber.

Though no official statement was issued at the end of the closed-door session but a lawmaker who pleaded anonymity told DAILY POST that the earlier threats and counter threats by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers were dropped.

According to the lawmaker, "the Senate today(Tuesday) reconvened after about two months recess and immediately went into closed-door session where all members had frank discussions about the future of the Eighth Senate as it goes into its last stage.

He continued, "The members agreed to give peace a chance and avoid allowing the red chamber of the federal legislature to get degenerated into an arena of conflict over partisan and personal issues"

It was equally learnt that the APC caucus also extracted a promise from the Senate President that national interest will continue to take precedence over any other consideration in the activities of the Senate.

Further, the senators were said to have agreed not to allow external forces and influence to cause disaffection, disturbance or crisis within the legislature.

However, it could be recalled that the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, had severally urged his party men in the Senate to remove Saraki as Senate President because of his defection to the PDP.

Against this backdrop, political pundits still believe that the threats for Saraki's removal from office may not be totally ruled out as uncertainty and surprise remain the constant feature of politics.

APC Loses Zamfara To PDP As INEC Bars Party From Fielding Candidates For 2019 Election

Posted: 10 Oct 2018 05:33 AM PDT

APC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost the State Governorship, House of Assembly and State House of Assembly positions, for failing to comply with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) primary elections guidelines in Zamfara State in the 2019 general elections.

This development followed a declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The INEC in a memo explained that APC failed to meet the October 7 deadline for conducting primaries to elect candidates for the elections.

The letter signed by the acting secretary of the commission, Okechukwu Ndeche, was addressed to APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, DAILY POST reports.

The letter titled, "Failure To Conduct Party Primaries in Zamfara State Within The Stipulated Time Frame" reads: "You would note from the timetable that the conduct of party primaries is scheduled to take place between 18th August and 7th October 2018.

Read INEC letter below:
INEC Letter

"Kindly also refer to the last schedule communicated by your party to the commission on the dates of party primaries nationwide, including Zamfara vide your letter Ref. APC/NHDQ/ INEC/19/18/51 dated 3rd Oct. 2018.

"However, report received from our office in Zamfara State shows that no primaries were conducted by your party in the state, Notwithstanding that our officials were fully mobilized and deployed."

INEC said based on the provisions of Section 87 and 31 of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), "the commission does not expect that your party will submit names of any candidates from Zamfara State.

"For clarity, our position is that the All Progressives Congress (APC), will not be fielding candidates for the governorship, National Assembly and State Assembly Elections in Zamfara state for 2019 general elections."

The Zamfara chapter of the APC had split into camps headed by Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, and Senator Kabiru Marafa.

Yari wanted Mukhtar Idris, the state commissioner of finance, to succeed him, a situation which put the entire primaries in disarray.

With this development, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) which has already picked a former member of the House of Representatives, Bello Matawalle, as its governorship candidate for the 2019 elections, may take over the state.
