Fayemi Sworn-In As New Ekiti State Governor

Posted: 16 Oct 2018 05:36 PM PDT

Dr Kayode Fayemi taking oath of office

Thousands of residents of Ekiti and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday thronged the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion to witness the swearing-in of Dr Kayode Fayemi and Chief Adebisi Egbeyemi as Governor and Deputy Governor of the state.

Fayemi, a former Minister of Mines and Steel, was sworn in as the sixth governor of Ekiti, amid pomp and ceremony.

He was sworn in by the Chief Judge of Ekiti, Ayodeji Daramola. The deputy governor, Adebisi Egbeyemi took oath of office at exactly noon, while Fayemi took his at 12:20 p.m., amid ovations from the crowd.

Fayemi served his first term as governor of the state between 2010 and 2014 under the platform of the defunct ACN.

The 14,000-seater pavilion was already filled to capacity as early as 8 a.m. by residents and party loyalists from the 16 local government areas of the state.

The early morning rain, which many regarded as a sign of good omen for the new government, did not stop people from attending the inauguration, as many were seen trekking long distances to get to the venue.

The Chairman of the Tricycle Association of Nigeria, Ekiti chapter, Mr Akinola Talabi-Ifa, had earlier declared that passengers going for the inauguration would be conveyed free of charge throughout the state as part of the union's contribution to success of the exercise
Most markets, shops and public offices were shut as traders and workers all moved to the pavilion to witness the ceremony.

Aside from those inside the Pavilion, several others stayed outside as they could not gain entry to the pavilion.

In carnival-like manner, men and women in different attires bearing the inscription and portrait of the new governor, sang his praises while dancing and drumming.
Security in and around the venue was tight as men of the Nigerian Army, police, Customs, Civil Defence and many other security personel searched persons going into the venue at virtually all gates.

President Muhammadu Buhari was represented at the occasion by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

Also present at the occasion were: Gov.Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi; Gov.Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State; Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Gov.Abiola Ajumobi of Oyo State.

Fayemi said the state's economy is heading to a state of emergency, the new governor of the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, said on Tuesday in his inauguration speech in Ado-Ekiti.

The governor appealed to the federal government for assistance to bail out the state through the Economic Stabilisation Fund. While committing to address the problems of unpaid salaries of workers, Fayemi said: "We should join hands to resuscitate the ailing economy.'' He also called on investors and multi-national corporation to return to Ekiti.
The governor said the state was currently battling with more than N170 billion debt piled up by the government of former Ayodele Fayose. The state, he said, would embark on social investment, education, agriculture and rural development. We are ready to work with everyone to create a landmark progress.

We are committing to world best practices and deploy all skills to honestly work for the progress of the state.

"We will work to integrating the aspiration of the state to the programme of the federal government.''

He said the state would return to the fold of other states in the west to fast track economic development.

"We will take full ownership of the challenges ahead of us.'' NAN

Atiku Presidency: PDP Group Kicks Over Campaign Council Led By Saraki

Posted: 16 Oct 2018 04:33 PM PDT

Senator Bukola Saraki

A Group from the South West, by name; Yoruba Restoration Group (YRG) has described the constitution of the Presidential Campaign Council of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an indication of the disdain the Party has for the Southwest.

The council has Senate President, Bukola Saraki as Director General and is saddled with the responsibility of ensuring victory for the party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2019 election.

In a statement made available to DAILY POST on Tuesday and signed by its Convener, Comrade Daud Jokotola, the group chided the party for always "thinking low" of the region despite its huge voting population.

YRG lamented that ever since former President Olusegun Obasanjo announced his exit from the PDP, the party had continued to treat Southwesterners as outcast.

It said: "It is on record that we only became the Speaker of the House of Representatives by chance during the Yar'Adua administration and ever since then, the PDP in what looks like a sort of coup have taken every leadership position meant for us to other regions.

"In 2017, when the Chairmanship of the party was zoned to the region by a committee setup by the party itself, they took that position from us and gave it to the South South.

"In the newly constituted Campaign Council of the party for the 2019 presidential election, the same party thought so low of us to drag us to merely regional Coordinator."

"While we have no issues with the South East being the Vice Presidential candidate and have taken the decision in good faith as a contribution to national unity, we will not stand back and allow this open desecration of our honour continue.

"We wish to make it clear to the leadership of the party that in spite of the misrule of the APC administration, the party is not treating us as an outsider and no matter how bad it is our son is the Vice President there," the statement read.

Why We killed Hauwa Leman, Red Cross Aid Worker – Boko Haram

Posted: 16 Oct 2018 12:55 PM PDT

Hauwa Leman, Red Aid Worker killed by ISWAP

The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction of Boko Haram, has explained why they executed Hauwa Leman, an aid worker with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The terrorists also vowed to keep Leah Sharibu, the Dapchi schoolgirl, as "a slave for life", TheCable gathered.

In a short clip, Leman was forced to kneel down, with her hands tied inside a white hijab, which has a crest symbol, and then shot at close range.

ISWAP, in a short statement, said: "We have kept our word exactly as we said, by killing another humanitarian worker, Hauwa Leman, who is working with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) that were abducted during a raid on a military facility in Rann, Kala Balge in March 2018.

"Saifura and Hauwa were killed because they are considered as Murtads (apostates) by the group because they were once Muslims that have abandoned their Islam, the moment they chose to work with the Red Cross, and for us, there is no difference between Red Cross and UNICEF.

"If we see them, we will kill the apostates among them, men or women, and chose to kill or keep the infidels as slaves, men or women."

2019 Presidency: See What Will Happen If Buhari Returns To Power – Gov. Tambuwal

Posted: 16 Oct 2018 11:53 AM PDT

Governor Aminu Tambuwal

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, Sokoto State Governor, has said that it would be suicidal if President Muhammadu Buhari returns to power in 2019.

Tambuwal, who was one of the 12 presidential aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, alleged that Buhari was not in charge of the country.

Tambuwal claimed that the President ran the country by proxy.

"Work has started for us to ensure that the PDP family remains united and other lovers of democracy come and partner with us for us to ensure that we convincingly win the election."

According to the former House of Representatives Speaker, the task of wresting power from the ruling party was not his personal ambition, adding that "all of the issues we have discussed, canvassed and traversed for during our meeting with delegates and party leaders, have remained there."

He added, "The maladministration and the way the country is being run through proxies is unacceptable.

"President Buhari is not in charge. It will be suicidal for him to return to power for another four years. So, we don't want a situation whereby that will continue anytime after May 29, 2019.

"We want a government in which the President of Nigeria will be right on top of issues. One that will respect the rule of law.

"So, I have given my commitment and I mean it, I am out for it. By the grace of God, we shall support Atiku Abubakar and the PDP to win elections throughout Nigeria."

He spoke in Abuja on Monday when the Peace and Reconciliation Committee of the PDP paid him a visit in his Maitama (Abuja) residence.

He said, "I want to reassure you, our party men and women and Nigerians that I am committed to the success and victory of our party at the general elections, come February 2019.

"We have had a robust and fruitful engagement on the way forward and I have made my commitment immediately after the convention that I am going to support our candidate, Wazirin Adamawa, Atiku Abubakar, 100 per cent for us to have a victory at the general elections. So, I am not wavering, I am not looking back.

Senator Shehu Talks On Buhari’s Refusal To Sign Agreement

Posted: 16 Oct 2018 08:53 AM PDT

Senator Shehu Sani

The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central at the Senate, Senator Shehu Sani, has backed President Muhammadu Buhari's refusal to sign the African Free Trade Agreement, AfCTA.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had on Saturday lambasted President Buhari, saying his hands were too weak to sign the free trade agreement

Obasanjo added that he hopes that Nigeria will soon have a president who will sign the agreement.

But Sani explained that the idea would have made more sense if African countries were producing what they consume and not importing from Asia, Europe and America.

The lawmaker tweeted on Sunday night, "The African continental free trade is a great idea if African states are locally producing and not importing goods from US, Europe and Asia.

"The President is right for refusing to sign a trade deal that will only open our country to imports."

Ex-DSS Chief, Lawal Daura Pressured Me To Support Buhari Before Ekiti Election – Fayose

Posted: 16 Oct 2018 08:14 AM PDT

Ayodele Fayose

Ayodele Fayose, the outgoing governor of Ekiti State, has revealed how a former Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Lawal Daura, allegedly asked him on two occasions to support the President Muhammadu Buhari government.

Fayose stated that Daura told him that backing Buhari would keep his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, in control of Ekiti State.

According to Fayose's Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, the Governor spoke in Abuja on Sunday night at a send-off party organised for him by his colleagues in the PDP Governors' Forum.

Fayose said he turned down the request on both occasions.

Idowu, in a statement on Monday, quoted Fayose as saying that it was for that reason that Daura coordinated the security onslaught against him and his supporters during the July 14 governorship election in the state.

"If I had agreed to the proposal and operated like a bat, who has the features of an animal and a bird, they would not have attempted to muzzle me. I am not one of those that would be silenced or who will go and take over under his wife's bed because some people want to play God.

The outgoing governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has revealed how a former Director-General of the Department of State Services, DSS, Lawal Daura, allegedly asked him on two occasions to support the President Muhammadu Buhari government.

"I cannot deceive you, I can fight but rather than fight the PDP, I will deploy my energy to fight those holding our country hostage and retarding its growth by their incapability. The time is up for them and they know this," he said.

Speaking on the fallout from the PDP presidential primary, the governor called on the national chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, and others to accord necessary respect and recognition to state governors.

"The governors are institutions on their own and they must be accorded the necessary respect and recognition. When there is a need to get these governors to contribute money to meet some needs, they will contribute. But when there is a need to let them express their views and preferences, they will be accused of trying to impose, that must stop," he said.

Fayose expressed confidence that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi would be elected president and vice president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria next year.

He urged the party to unite, forge a common front to oust Buhari, saying that Nigerians are going through pains and are looking unto the PDP as saviour.

"Buhari's time is up," the outgoing governor said.

2019 Presidency: Bishop Oyedepo Speaks On Joining Others At Obasanjo, Atiku Meeting

Posted: 16 Oct 2018 04:10 AM PDT

Bishop Oyedepo and Alhaji Atiku

Bishop David Oyedepo, the founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, (Winners' Chapel), has insisted that he never received bribe from any politician.

Oyedepo said this during his Sunday sermon titled: "Convenant day of open doors".

The fiery cleric, who was last week criticized for attending the reconciliation meeting between PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and former president Olusegun Obasanjo, maintained that he belonged to no political party.

He, however, stated that he was a peace mediator.

Oyedepo said, "I have never belonged to any political party and will never belong to one, wherever parties you are in that is where I am in, Sahara Reporters reports.

"There is no party without winners in it, if you get to any party and you don't see any winner in it you better check out of there, even the one that have not being formed winners are there.

"Our goal is to secure the glorious destiny of our nation by paying whatever price it require.

"I have never taken any dime from any political candidate in my life, I am a mediator.

''The price of peace is far cheaper than the cost of war so what we are saying is let us talk this over don't let us exchange blows.

"Let us be mature and be sincere, lets give chance to reason and let the wicked turn from their wicked ways. We have to do it by appealing to people reasoning.

"Does anybody here want to see war? The 30 months war we fought, the effect keeps lingering, you won't see war again in the name of Jesus."
