JUST IN: David Mark’s Daughter, Blessing Onuh Defects From PDP After Losing Reps Ticket

Posted: 18 Oct 2018 05:18 PM PDT

Mrs. Blessing Onuh-Mark

The daughter of former President of the Senate, David Mark, Blessing Onuh-Mark, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

DAILY POST reports that her defection came barely two weeks after losing the party's ticket for Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency to her uncle, Johnson Egli Ahubi.

Ahubi is the current Deputy Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly.

It was gathered that Blessing, who is wife of the former Local Government chairman of Otukpo, Innocent Onuh, was advised to step aside for her uncle, Ahubi, but she refused.

Before the party's primaries, Mrs. Onuh pitched her tent with Chief Mike Onoja, who also lost the Benue South Senatorial district ticket of the PDP to Abba Moro, former Interior Minister.

Few weeks after losing the PDP ticket, Onoja joined the Social Democratic Party where the former party's senatorial flag bearer, Adakole Ijogi, stepped down for him.

A source hinted our reporter on Tuesday that Mrs. Onuh had equally picked the SDP ticket to slug it out in the 2019 general elections with his uncle, Ahubi, and other contenders.

"The truth is, Blessing was not happy with the whole drama that played out. She is also not happy because her father did not use his influence to get her the ticket.

"But (Okpani) Mark told her to wait until 2023 but she refused. Senator Mark doesn't want to impose his daughter on the people. Now, she has picked the SDP ticket with Mike Onoja who also decamped from PDP last week," the source hinted this reporter.

A chieftain of the party in Benue South, who pleaded anonymity, described her exit as 'immaterial'

"She was not known before now as a member of the party, she was only riding on her father's influence. Her defection is immaterial and we don't care if she's leaving or not.

"Well, it has not been made known but I don't think it is worth discussing," the PDP chieftain told our reporter in Otukpo.

JUST IN: Peter Obi Finally Speaks Out On Owning Houses In London

Posted: 18 Oct 2018 12:07 PM PDT

Peter Obi

Mr. Peter Obi, the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 elections,  has decided to clarify issues bothering on whether he claimed that he had no house in London.

His Special adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, made the clarification yesterday while reacting to what he described as false stories being spread online by Obi's detractors that he lied about owning houses in London, PoliticsNGR reports.

Obienyem said: "During several media programmes, Mr. Peter Obi said Onitsha was the only place he owned a personal house in Nigeria.

"In an attempt to discredit him, some people are posting his London houses as the much-awaited evidence that he lied.

"First, let it be noted that the issue of having a personal house only in Onitsha is a matter of choice. If his lifestyle supports love for houses, Obi can afford to have houses in the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

"As for his London houses, it might interest the public to note that he bought his first house in London in 1987. All the houses he owned in London were purchased before he became governor of Anambra State and were all duly declared."

Obienyem advised Nigerians and the international community "to disregard false stories being fabricated by Obi's detractors who are clutching at straws in their vain bid to demonize Obi, whom he described as a proven performer and lover of the masses who is well known for his forthrightness and integrity.

EFCC Talks On Magu Allegedly Saying ”Nothing Will Happen If Fayose Dies In Custody”

Posted: 18 Oct 2018 09:20 AM PDT

Fayose at the EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday reacted to an audio of its Chairman, Ibrahim Magu claiming that nothing will happen if the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose dies in its custody.

EFCC urged members of the public to disregard the audio, describing it as false.

Recall that Fayose has been in custody of the anti-graft agency since he turned himself in on Tuesday.

But in a series of tweets via his official Twitter handle, the anti-graft agency described the audio as the handiwork of mischief makers.

The tweets read, "#Alert The EFCC alerts the public of an audio recording currently circulating in the social media in which Acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, purportedly made comments to effect that nothing will happen peradventure Ayo Fayose, ex-Ekiti governor dies in custody.

"Interestingly, the audio tape did not disclose the place where the conversation occurred and the person that Magu was supposedly talking to.

"Members of the public are advised to disregard this disingenuous creation an handiwork of mischief makers intent on distracting the EFCC from the serious work of wrapping up the investigation into the corruption allegations against Fayose.

"#Alert The audio recording is fake as the comments did not emanate from the Chairman of the EFCC.

Purveyors of this fake news especially a former spokesperson of a leading political party are warned to desist. #Fayose."

Ekiti State: Muslim Group Faults Dr. Fayemi On A Major Error, After First Day In Office

Posted: 18 Oct 2018 08:46 AM PDT

Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has frowned at the first appointments made by the newly inaugurated Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

Fayemi had on Tuesday evening, named Abiodun Oyebanji as Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Biodun Omoleye as Chief of Staff, COS, and Yinka Oyebode as Chief Press Secretary, CPS.

Meanwhile, MURIC has congratulated Fayemi on his well deserved electoral victory and prayed that his tenure would bring peace and progress to the good people of the state.

In a statement signed by the Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, and forwarded to DAILY POST, the group wondered why no single Muslim was among the first three appointments since both the governor and his deputy are Christians.

"It is a dangerous signal considering what Muslims in the state went through under the dictator and totalitarian ruler, Ayodele Fayose who is currently rehearsing his incarceration songs in EFCC cell in Abuja.

"In flagrant demonstration of gymnastic religiosity and excessive hate action, Fayose demolished our mosques. He forbade the learning of Arabic language in the state. He encouraged matchet-brandishing masquerades and thugs to attack Muslim worshippers inside their mosques.

"The blood of Muslims flowed freely on the streets of Ekiti. Fayose's ordeal has just started. We remember that we promised to visit him in Kirikiri. We hope to keep that promise very soon.

"Under Fayose's administrative misadventure, the deputy governor, speaker, deputy speaker, SSG, COS, all the judges in the state, all the fourteen (14) commissioners, all the special advisers except one, all the twenty six (26) permanent secretaries, all the 14 permanent secretaries, all the board chairmen, all the chairmen and members of boards of Ekiti State University, the colleges of education and health technology as well as all the sixteen (16) local government caretaker chairmen except one were Christians. Muslims in the state who constitute no less than 35% of the total population were totally eclipsed. It had better not happen again under Fayemi.

"Yesterday's appointments hit us pretty hard. Three straight appointments at a go and none went to a Muslim. Incidentally, all three appointments are very crucial. They are personnel who must essentially stay close to the governor every hour of the day. We are becoming disillusioned.

"Et tu Fayemi! How can the Muslims start getting the same treatment they received under Fayose when they gave you massive support during the election? We know you as a moderate and tolerant Christian. Have you changed? What went wrong? We hope our fears will be addressed in the next few days and weeks as your government takes proper shape. It is only fair that Muslims are given proper representation in the appointment of commissioners, board chairmen, etc.

"It is on record that Muslims received good attention during Fayemi's first tenure as governor of the state and we expect nothing less. Fayemi was the first governor in the whole South West to allow female Muslim students in public schools to use hijab even without any protests or legal action. That action alone gave us the impression that Fayemi is one of the few Christians in Nigeria who is ready and willing to promote religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence.

"In our closing remarks, MURIC calls on the new governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to continue to promote religious tolerance. We urge him to close ranks with Muslims in the state and to show the world that he is not a religious bigot like his immediate predecessor. We remind the ruling party in Ekiti state that Muslims deserve a fair share in the political appointments to be announced in the next few weeks."

Cross River On Fire As Residents Lose Life Savings To Ponzi Scheme

Posted: 18 Oct 2018 06:57 AM PDT

Policemen from the zone six headquarters, Cross River State have arrested a Swiss Gold Ponzi scheme operator, Mrs. Lizzy Efa.

The operator, DAILY POST gathered, was arrested on Tuesday at the border between Nigeria and Cameroon in Bakassi axis while trying to leave Nigeria.

Upon her arrest by a Special Anti-Robbery Squad, "investors" besieged the Zonal Police Headquarters to demand for their money.

One of the investors and Petroleum dealer, Mr. Justus Austin said that he had lost N11.6m to the scheme.

The investor demanded that the matter be transferred to the EFCC to avoid bias.

"If the police should handle it again, our efforts would be futile. We call on the EFCC to take over the matter from the police," he said, adding that the lady was set free by the police after she was first arrested two months ago.

"People have invested so much money in the name of Swiss Gold; she is a breakaway from another group. She was initially arrested but the police released her with a promise that she was going to pay after three months.

"They tracked one of the major owners in the Government House on Tuesday with huge funds. She was one of those acting as intermediary to collect money from investors and deposit to the scheme.

"Huge money was found in her possession and that was how they were able to track Efa. We had lodged our petition in the EFCC.

"My wife and I, for instance mopped about N11.5m from our small businesses and deposited into the scheme. She raked in over N1bn within three months," he said.

When contacted, the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), Nelson Ukpabi confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect, saying it was based on petitions by those she allegedly duped.

The ZPRO said, "She will be charged to court as soon as possible but investigations are ongoing".

BREAKING: ‘You must Resign’ – Akpabio Attack Saraki After Senate Clash

Posted: 18 Oct 2018 03:20 PM PDT

Senator Godswill Akpabio

Senator Godswill Akpabio has called for the resignation of Senate President, Bukola Saraki, PoliticsNGR has learned.

This development is coming shortly after both politicians clashed over sitting positions in the hallowed chambers.

Addressing a Press Conference after Plenary on Wednesday, Akpabio advised Saraki to honourably resign as president of the Senate. He added that the Senate President should borrow a leaf from him as a former minority leader, saying he resigned the position when he defected from PDP to APC to allow the PDP elect a new minority leader.

"It's a tradition all over the world that when you defected to another party even as a Senate President like Saraki did, to resign from the office of the Senate President. APC is still the majority party and they need to form a new leadership. The Senate President should honourably resign just like I did."

He also criticized the PDP for doing nothing in the South-South for 16 years;

"Having moved from PDP to APC, I felt fulfilled. My advice and suggestions in the national interest would not be looked upon with suspicion by the government in power again. I moved to APC in national interest. I don't believe in bringing government into being and will not support that government to succeed.

In the last 16 years, I did not see 1 kilometre of road done by PDP government in Akwa Ibom state, but today, APC government is constructing the road from Akwa Ibom to Calabar.

The road has been a death trap and I must thank this government for that. From the national and local perspectives, people look at me as a leader and I must tell you that in 2019, it would be difficult for any other party to penetrate the South-South."
