Presidential Ticket: PDP Reveals New Plans, Speaks On Preferred Candidate

Posted: 04 Oct 2018 04:38 AM PDT

PDP

The major opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has unveiled new plans in its bid to hold a transparent, fair and credible national convention on Sunday.

The party said it hopes to produce an acceptable presidential candidate on Sunday.

According to the party, the national convention, which will hold in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, on Sunday, would be of an international standard that would be envied by other political parties.

Mr. Kola Ologbindiyan, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, made this known on Tuesday.

Ologbindiyan spoke with journalists in Abuja, where he stated that the PDP would show to the world that it was democratic in the conduct of its internal affairs.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, said unlike in the past when presidential aspirants were not allowed to nominate agents to represent them during delegates' elections, the National Working Committee had chosen to broaden their participation by giving them the opportunity to nominate two people each into the accreditation and electoral committees respectively, the DAILY POST reports.

He said, "Each of the Presidential aspirants will nominate two people into the accreditation committee and another two into the electoral committee.

"This is to ensure that none of the aspirants is left in the dark as to what the party is doing concerning the convention.

"The PDP will publish names of all the delegates and make same available to our Presidential aspirants before the convention. We have nothing to fear or hide on that issue."

When asked about the quality of a presidential candidate that the party would produce, the PDP mouthpiece said that the party was looking forward to the emergence of a candidate with the capacity to quickly revamp the economy.

He said aim was to bring to an end what he described as "the disastrous stewardship of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress administration."

He added, "The PDP has no interest in a particular aspirant. We are hopeful that whoever emerges on Saturday will be a man with the economic wizardry to turn around the fortunes of this country.

"The party is out to make sure we have a credible primary election and the process will be clean, transparent and acceptable to the majority of Nigerians."

On whether the aspirants were forced into accepting Port Harcourt as the host of the convention, Ologbondiyan answered no, adding that members of the National Executive Committee, as well as all Presidential aspirants, unanimously settled for the state.

He added that chairmen of the respective state chapters would introduce their delegates at the convention venue "in the spirit of openness."

Allaying fears of possible post-convention crisis, Ologbondiyan said should any arise, "the party has its internal conflict resolution mechanisms to deal with such."

Ovie Omo-Agege, Expelled By APC, Asks DSS To Arrest Him

Posted: 04 Oct 2018 03:58 AM PDT

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly and factional senatorial candidate for the 2019 general election, has been expelled by the All Progressives Congress (APC), his party.

The APC Delta State chapter led by Cyril Abeye Ogodo took the decision during an emergency meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC ) in Asaba on Wednesday.

The party in a statement titled 'Delta APC Expels Senator Ovie Omo-Agege', signed by the party's Legal Adviser, Dennis Nwanokwai Esq, said its decision to expel Omo Agege from the party followed his "unabated involvement in anti-party activities", Daily post reports.

According to the statement which read in part: "The latest of such activities relates to the hijack of primaries panel members and materials sent from the national secretariat to conduct primaries in the state and deploying same to conduct unauthorised parallel primaries.

"Others are the manipulation and tampering of delegates' lists and the use of thugs to harass and deprive authentic delegates from access to primaries venues, all that in conjunction with Prophet Jones Erue and others who have earlier been expelled from our party.

"The expulsion of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is with immediate effect. The SWC also resolved to petition the security services, including the Police and DSS to arrest and prosecute Senator Omo-Agege, Prophet Jones Erue and others for impersonation and others actions calculated to breach public peace".

2019 Election: PDP Governorship Aspirant Dumps Party For APC, With Thousands Of Supporters, Declares Support For Buhari

Posted: 04 Oct 2018 03:02 AM PDT

Jamilu Isiaku Gwamna

A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeated governorship aspirant in the just concluded governorship primary in Gombe, Jamilu Isiaku Gwamna, has led thousands of his supporters to the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC secretariat.

Jamilu Isiaku Gwamna, reacting to the outcome of the primary election where he was defeated along with 11 others by Senator Usman Bayero Nafada, described the outcome as a daylight robbery on democracy in the state, Daily Post reports.

He termed the exercise a charade, adding that the voting was carried out by delinquents and not delegates and vowed that he and his supporters will henceforth work for the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari's return in the 2019 general elections.

Jamilu told reporters, "Having considered the situation and in consultation with our people, I felt our interest will not be protected in PDP and so we sought for an alternative which is APC.

"I am not seeking this position just for myself, but the people called on me to do so and I accepted the call.

"Our interest now can only be protected in the APC and we'll assiduously work for the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya to become the Governor of Gombe State," he said.
