SHI'ITES: FG Discloses Line Of Action Over Shi’ites Uprising In Abuja Posted: 31 Oct 2018 11:30 PM PDT
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has directed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Bello Muhammad, to summon meeting of the territory's security council to address Shi'ite uprisings in the territory.Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, made this known when he fielded questions from State House correspondents at the end of the Council's meeting on Wednesday in Abuja. The meeting was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, Daily Post reports. The minister said: "This matter came up for discussion and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory has been asked to take the matter up with his own security committee.''Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), popularly referred to as Shi'ite, had engaged the security agencies in violent clashes within and around the FCT since Saturday.About 26 people were reportedly killed and many others injured during clashes between soldiers and Shiite group in Zuba, Mararaba/Nyanya and Abuja in the last three days. On Tuesday, the FCT Police Command announced the arrest of some IMN members with 31 bottles of petrol bomb and other dangerous weapons being ferried into Abuja. The command said the members' plot was to attack innocent citizens, including law enforcement agents deployed to protect lives and property. 2019 Election: I’m Landlord Of APC – Okorocha Beats His Chest Posted: 31 Oct 2018 10:53 PM PDT
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, has given to himself the title of landlord of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state and Southeast as a whole. The Governor made this known in a statement on Wednesday while discrediting the rumour of him wanting to the leave the APC for the Social Democratic Party, SDP, barely 48hours to the submission of the Governorship and House of Assembly Candidates to INEC by Political Parties in the country. The statement, which was signed and issued to journalists in Owerri by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sam Onwuemeodo reads:"The known fraudsters in Imo politics who have sneaked into Imo APC have come up with the cheap and unfounded rumour of Governor Rochas Okorocha and Ugwumba Uche Nwosu leaving APC for SDP. Their first claim was ADC."Like we had intoned, this baseless rumour was manufactured by these fraudsters and been marketed by their agents on the social media."Nobody builds a befitting house and abandons it for those who are facing criminal charges for issuance of Dud Cheques and failure to declare their assets. "Rochas Okorocha is the LANDLORD of Imo APC in particular and that of the South-East in general. And he has the onerous task of ensuring that those recruited to destroy the Party in the State and indeed in the South-East do not have their way". Osinbajo Attacked By PDP Over Comment On Nigeria’s Debt Profile Posted: 31 Oct 2018 10:32 PM PDT
Nigeria's Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has been attacked by the country's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over his comment on the country's rising debt profile. The opposition party said, the debt had escalated to a frightening proportion under the watch of the present administration.Osinbajo while speaking at a public lecture organised by the Sigma Club in Ibadan on Saturday, stated that the Buhari-led administration inherited a debt of $63 billion and had only borrowed $10 billion since it took office in 2015.The Vice President said, "In 2010, our debt was $35 billion; $41 billion in 2011; $48 billion in 2012; $64 billion in 2013; $67.7 billion in 2014; $63.8 billion in 2015; $57.8 billion in 2016; $70 billion in 2017; and $73 billion in 2018."The nation's debt as at today was $73 bilÅ‚ion, an increment of $10 billion from the $63 billion inherited in 2015."Osinbajo further stated at the event, that the nation's oil earnings stood at $119.8 billion between 1990 and 1998; $481 billion from 1999 to 2009; and $381 billion from 2010 to 2014, while the present administration has only earned $112 billion from June 2015. "The earnings from oil from 2010 to 2014 were the highest recorded in the history of the country. This was a period when the price of oil per barrel sold from $100 to $114″, Osinbajo added. But in a swift response, while addressing a media conference in Abuja on Thursday, the spokesman for the opposition party, the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan accused Osinbajo of deliberate distortion of facts and figures. The main opposition party described the vice president's position as a desperate attempt to divert attention from the "failures" of the administration. Ologbondiyan said, "Vice President Osinbajo falsified financial templates to argue that this government has no blame in the accumulation of debts under its watch. "It is an incontrovertible fact that the Buhari administration has accumulated more debts that any other administration in the history of our nation. "Our dear Vice President forgot that Nigerians are aware that between 2016 and 2017, under President Buhari, our annual borrowing was about N3.7trillion as against the N1.04 trillion annual borrowing perimeter between 2008 to 2015. Between 1999 to 2007 the annual borrowing perimeter was as low as N96 billion. "To deceive the public and divert attention from the alarming borrowing spree of the Buhari administration, the APC-led Federal Government converted domestic debt borrowed in naira under its watch, to the US dollar so that the very high exchange rate will make the domestic debt look smaller in dollars. This is a deceptive picture because domestic debt was accumulated in naira and not in dollar. "It is important to point out that the domestic debts of states were not part of the data base until 2013. Therefore, a sincere comparison of debts over the years should have focused on total external debt and Federal Government's domestic debt. "In view of the above, if Vice President Osinbajo, a professor of law was not being economical with the truth, the appropriate comparison should be to have the domestic debt in naira and convert the external debt to naira to get national debt for each of the years, which showed that the Buhari administration has accumulated more debts that any other administration" "Nigerians have moved beyond the lies, deception, propaganda and beguilement of the APC. It amounts to a huge disservice to our nation if a person of such high office of the Vice President will allow himself to be used to distort figures to deceive Nigerians", Ologbondiyan added. What Tinubu Said After Wednesday's Meeting With Buhari Concerning Atiku & Oshiomhole Issues Posted: 31 Oct 2018 09:59 PM PDT
The All Progressives Congress, (APC), National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has dismissed the threat posed by Atiku Abubakar, who is the presidential candidate of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).Shorthly after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday, Tinubu was asked if he is jittery about the strategy meeting convened by Atiku in Dubai, to unseat Buhari."We don't fear. Whether it is in the jungle, or it is in Dubai or it is in Abu Dhabi, people are free to meet and strategise in anyway they want but we are not going back to the illusion of the PDP."It is not possible, Nigerians will not do that. They say slow and steady wins the race. We inherited that from our forefathers and knowledgeable people. We can't go back to the pit that we inherited for 16 years. They can strategise from anywhere but a leopard cannot change it skin," he told State House correspondents.Tinubu said the meeting with Buhari was about "the nation, the country, our people, peace, stability and economic progress".Asked if he was in support of the call for Adams Oshiomhole's removal as APC national chairman, Tinubu said: "No. We all have to respect party supremacy. You were all here when we had the congress, we elected the new executives, the convention we had it, the NEC was formed and we surrendered to avoid conflict, to avoid domination, to avoid abuses of power, we surrendered our rights, all rights to the national working committee headed by Adams Oshiomhole. "That the national working committee should set up electoral bodies to supervise various state congresses and elections. We signed for it. So, if it is not in our individual favour, so be it. We gave three options: consensus, where there is no consensus because if you are more than two or three and you cannot agree to one candidate, you go to the next level. "The next level is the stakeholders' delegate election and you have to be supervised by the national working committee of the party, national election committee of the party. That shows party supremacy. "We had the freest option, the less cumbersome is to open direct primary, line up and count the number, 1,2,3. If you win, you win and if you fail, go home. Then appeal committee was set up to listen to all appeals, internal mechanism for conflict resolution. It was there, you cannot turn round against that, you cannot turn against all of that. "No. Party is supreme, party must be respected, abuses will not do it and anger will not do it. It is party politics, somebody will win and somebody will lose… too bad." UPDATE: Wike Speaks On South-South Governors’ Meeting With Buhari & Obi’s Candidature Posted: 31 Oct 2018 05:00 PM PDT
Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Rivers State Governor has declared that there is no iota of doubt that the APC-led Federal Government has failed Nigerians, necessitating the need for a new leadership in 2019.The Governor further stated that the visit of four South-South Governors to President Muhammadu Buhari had no political connotation, noting that the governors were in the Presidential Villa to discuss the development of the Niger Delta.Wike spoke in an interview with Channels Television Roadmap 2019.He noted: "Our meeting with the President had nothing to do with politics. It was strictly for the benefit of the South-South."There is no personal problem between the President and myself. He came to Port Harcourt to commission a project that would add value and I had to be there."But when it comes to politics, I say no, the party of the President has performed poorly. It has failed Nigerians. The APC is not doing well. But when it comes to governance, you give the President that respect. "Commenting on the zoning of the PDP Vice Presidential Candidate to the South-East and eventual nomination of Former Anambra State Governor, Mr Peter Obi, Governor Wike stated that contrary to political insinuations, he played no role in the emergence of Peter Obi. Governor Wike stated: "I never nominated Peter Obi. But the mere fact that the Vice Presidential Candidate is coming from the South-East does not give the zone the sole right to nominate a person , since the entire country will benefit. "When the South-East said they were not consulted before Peter Obi was nominated, where did we meet as a party to agree that the Vice Presidential Candidate must come from the South-East. But we said if the Presidential Candidate believes he has somebody to work with, we said so be it". He said the fact that the Vice Presidential Candidate should come from the South-East, does not foreclose the inputs of the other five geo-political zones. Anenih: A Trough Of Bitter-Sweet Memories, By Louis Odion Posted: 31 Oct 2018 11:37 AM PDT
Our first encounter in 2000 was simply apocalyptic. The old cop was at his bewitching best – marshalling provincial tactics of intimidation and seduction. An editor with THISDAY then, I was in Benin City for the weekend and happened to have been with then Governor Lucky Igbinedion at the White House that evening before the then acclaimed "strongman of Edo politics" appeared like an apparition.Nothing, in my wildest imagination, had prepared me for the coming volcanic eruption while chatting with the Edo governor over wine. As the day wore on, folks – a few familiar faces and the others unknown – began to trickle in, until the main lounge was packed full with the "powers and principalities" of Edo PDP then, ahead of a pre-scheduled state caucus meeting.Easily recognizable among them was the durable Chief Sam Ogbemudia, debonair Mike Oghiadome (deputy governor), gangling Samson Ekhabafe (now late) and feisty Aguele (state chairman). Then, the air would freeze as Chief Anenih sauntered in a white kaftan with everyone standing up in courtesy to "The Leader".It didn't take long for his sharp police eyes to notice the oddity of my presence. "Youngman, who are you?", he muttered, before taking his seat on the two-seater sofa by the national flag. "I'm Louis Odion." "Louis Odion, the journalist?," he asked, eyes dimmed quizzically behind his trademark thick bi-focals, while others watched with growing curiosity. "You guessed right, sir." What remains difficult to tell till date is whether it was that casual retort or the self-assuredness it was expressed that stoked Chief Anenih's anger the more. With a voice now almost breathless in anger, he chose to direct his bazooka instead at the chief host (Igbinedion) and let out a fiery shot: "Lucky, what's this enemy doing here?" "My Leader, Louis is my friend o. He's in town and came for a drink." "What friend?!" he exploded further in a paroxysm of expletives and imprecations, too harsh – if not mean – to restate here. He continued: "He cannot be a friend. This boy abuses everybody every day with his pen. I used to think he was even an old person. I didn't know he's such a young boy like this." In the brief, testy silence that followed, the building would seem to be quaking in the tremor of his venomous rage. Then, the earth parted again and the volcanic eruption resumed in its blazing severity, with Chief Anenih finally thundering: "Young man, will you get out of this place!!!" Of course, by now, such dark hint was enough to activate my survival instinct. As I made for the door, the stentorian voice boomed again, "Young man, come back here!", with the same Chief Anenih beckoning me to come and sit next to him on the sofa! Never in my life had I been this publicly embarrassed before. After hesitating at the door, I turned back, more out of respect for someone old enough to be my grandpa. Only then did the gathering of party grandees return to a cacophony of banters, but their voices muffled, in deep reverence of the monumental presence of "The Leader", while awaiting the meeting to be called to order. In our corner, a completely new drama began to unfold. After you chastise a child with the right hand, they say, you're obliged to cuddle him with the left. From the earlier bullying, "The Leader" suddenly and astonishingly resorted to patriarchal charms. The way he went about it was most disarming. He wasn't looking at me as he began to speak in soft voice, having pulled closer on the sofa. Cupping his mouth with the right hand so that not even anyone standing by could eavesdrop while facing the crowd, he whispered conciliatorily to me: "I can see you're really angry at the way I spoke to you now. Louis, that's me. Go and ask my children, when I'm angry I tell them off. After that, we're family again." To break my last wall of defence, he doubled the flattery, "Louis, I never knew you were even this handsome," his face now lit with a broad smile. "But if I may you, why do you always like attacking me in your writings?" "Sir, I'm only a journalist doing my work," I finally found my voice "As a reporter, I report facts. As a columnist, I only express my personal opinion. I may be wrong, but don't mean to be disrespectful, sir." Then, he sent for his aide, Odion Ugbesia, and asked him: "Do you know this man?" "No sir." "That's the famous Louis Odion, the journalist. He's your namesake and also from Edo. Take his number and give him all my direct numbers in Abuja and Benin and make sure you're in touch with him." Indeed, that night marked the next phase of the complicated relationship I would have with Chief Anenih in the next decade. Which journalist – especially one whose forte is political reporting – will not swoon at securing unlimited access to arguably one of the biggest players in Nigerian politics at the time. A rich news source, undoubtedly. But such access also comes its own perils. Unfailingly paternalistic, he would henceforth often ask THISDAY publisher (Mr. Nduka Obaigbena) whenever they met, "How's my son?", referring to me. And whenever Mr. Obaigbena wanted to pull my legs in the office, he would tease, "I wonder what you're looking for in the circle of those old men." In his tribute, his old "political customer" in Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, was right to describe Anenih as having genuine commitment to advance not just the nation at large, but his native state and the entire South-South in particular, though his methodology might not have appealed to everyone. No one can deny that as Works minister, he, for instance, facilitated the construction of the the critical Benin by-pass which has helped in no small measure to ease the perennial migraine of traffic gridlock within Benin City. Not forgetting the dualization of the Benin-Asaba road and the Benin-Warri road. READ ALSO: JUST IN: Chief Tony Anenih Passes On The morning after a "political solution" was contrived to the Onshore-Offshore dichotomy palaver in 2002, I was the first journalist to get the exclusive, courtesy Anenih who presided over the presidential panel that sat all night to resolve the issue. That singular recommendation helped defuse mounting tension in the Niger Delta and brought immediate succor in particular to Akwa Ibom which had had to endure zero oil receipt for months. His sense of humour was something else. After being introduced publicly to Azu Ishiekwene, then editor of The PUNCH (against which he was vigorously pursuing a libel suit in court), Anenih quipped: "Ah, I never knew you already look lean," referrring to Azu's petite frame. "By the time I would have won my case again you in court and you're forced to pay heavy penalty, I only wonder what flesh you will have left on your bones!" Doubtless, Anenih's power and glory in the OBJ years were never in doubt. The Anenih-Atiku story is a riveting one indeed. Both being disciples of the mercurial Shehu Yar'Adua, it is amazing how OBJ they brought to power also separated them later. When OBJ's campaign continued to limp late 1998 under Iyiorcha Ayu, it was Atiku Abubakar, as a popular acccount goes, that helped conscript Anenih, against OBJ's initial reservations. No sooner had he taken charge than things changed dramatically. The secret? He simply reactivated the old boys' network of Yar'Adua's PDM by coopting members as OBJ's field commanders in the 774 councils across the country. Only then did OBJ's presidential campaign leap froward like tiger, a testimony to Anenih's extraordinary talent at organizing and mobilising. So, he instantly gained OBJ's confidence and cemented his fame as the new "Mr. Fix It". When the PDP's presidential flagbearer later sought his counsel on the choice of running-mate after the party's convention in Jos in 1999, "The Leader" did not hesitate before recommending Atiku as "the deputy you can trust" from the shortlist of five names. The story of how dire circumstances would set the two old Yar'Adua collaborators apart three years later is a story for another day. But a man of uncommon passions, he similarly triggered extreme emotions in others – cult worship among disciples and fierce hostility in adversaries. In what could only have spoken to a hangover from his professsional creed as policeman, he never seemed able to tolerate neutrality: you were either an ally or an enemy. To him, loyalty must include a willingness to inherit the leader's enemies as well. That peculiar psychology would invariably redound on our relationship. He was never able to see reason in drawing a distinction between the professsional and the personal. Hard as I tried, I never succeeded in making him understand that I could only be held personally accountable for views expressed in my column, and not for reports published as objective representation of facts in the finest tradition of journalism. When the report was positive, he would call me and affectionately say, "My son". When the story was unflattering and I called and began by saying "Daddy", he would angrily snap back, "Will you stop 'daddying' me! You've done it again. You're a bad son!!" When I wrote a column in his defence in 2004 as Sun editor based on my personal convinction in the heat of his skymish with then Governor Orji Kalu of Abia, he was deeply emotional when he called and spoke Ishan in expressing appreciation of my courage to write against the owner's interest. But that "father-son" amity only endured till another negative story appeared in the Sunday Sun I edited till January 2008 or the National Life I was MD/Editor-In-Chief for the next three years. He would seem to finally give up on me after I accepted an offer to serve as Information Commissioner in Edo under Oshiomhole. Interestingly, the very day I was sworn in Benin City in 2011, the governor showed me a text message one busybody had sent him, sympathizing with him for appointing the "lap dog of Anenih, your arch political enemy, as spokesman". We both laughed at such juvenile tomfoolery. "The Leader" would appear to have found it too hard to bear hearing the voice of his once beloved "son" speaking against him on national television or local radio stations or issuing statement denouncing "the Edo godfathers" on behalf of Edo State Government. Again, he seemed unable – or unwilling – to accept the philosophical distinction between the professional and the personal. Then came February 17, 2012, the day Oba Eradiuauwa gave out his daughter in marriage. While exiting the marquee at the palace, Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of neighbouring Delta State stopped to compliment me "for helping to reposition Comrade's information management. I notice things have changed since you took over." Uduaghan's kind words only seemed to annoy "The Leader" who stood beside him. Then pointing finger at me menacingly, he growled: "Odion, you'll soon see what'll happen to you!" He repeated that four times. So, when on April 29, 2012 a band of gunmen laid siege to my private residence in Benin City and only retreated after the local vigilante boys engaged them in gun duel, it was humanly impossible for me not to draw a parallel between that descent to barbarism and the undisguised threat of February 17 and, therefore, become paranoid at "The Leader". In remembering his flaws as a mortal, charity nonetheless obliges us to also acknowledge his strengths, chief of which was his generosity to unquestioning loyalty. Fani-Kayode Reacts As Rotimi Amaechi, Others Escape Plane Crash Posted: 31 Oct 2018 10:09 AM PDT Nigeria former Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, on Tuesday appreciated God for saving the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and other passengers on a Lagos bound flight escaped crash. The aircraft was reported to have taken off from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and was said to have ran into turbulence due to bad weather and almost crashed but was able to land safely.Reacting to the incident, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain wondered why the pilot did not return to base.Stating that most crashes were caused by error judgement, Fani-Kayode warned that "this must stop."In a series of tweets, he wrote: "I thank God for sparing the lives of all those that were on the Arik Air flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos on Sunday."I gather that @ChibuikeAmaechi, the Min. of Transport, was also on the flight and I praise the Lord that he and all the other passengers landed safely. "I am however constrained to ask why the pilot did not go back to base once he noticed that the weather was bad?Why did he hover for 2 hours? "Why did he keep attempting to land in such weather? This is something that @hadisirika,the Min. of State for Aviation, needs to look into. "Most crashes are caused by error of judgement and we must ensure that this stops. Nevertheless I commend the courage, skill and commitment of the pilot and his crew and I thank God for their professionalism and for keeping everyone safe. May God continue to protect our skies!" Chieftain Of APC Resigns, Gives Reasons Posted: 31 Oct 2018 09:21 AM PDT Dr. Nandul Durfa, Chairman, Board of Directors, College of Health Technology, Zawan in Plateau state, has resigned his appointment. Durfa, a chieftain of the APC, cited alleged electoral fraud and impunity in the Oct. 10 Plateau local government elections as reason for his resignation. In his resignation letter addressed to the Secretary to the Plateau State Government, Durfa said that he was opting out because his conscience could not accept government's impunity that could "bring further instability in Plateau'', Daily Post reports. A copy of the letter, dated Oct. 22, 2018, was made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Wednesday in Jos. The letter read: " Gov. Simon Lalong, on resumption of office in 2015, endeared himself to the people by swearing in Mr Hitler Dadi as Chairman, Langtang North Local Government. "Dadi had won the election held in 2014, but was shoved aside by the then state government which swore in its preferred candidate that clearly lost in the polls. "That action (swearing-in) was applauded by all of us who felt that a fair leader, with a sense of justice, had arrived. "Ironically, in Aug. 2017, during the councillor-ship election in my Sabon-Gida ward of Langtang South Local Government, the winner was rejected and the loser sworn in. "I objected to this, but the abnormally was never rectified.' "On Oct. 10, 2018, local government elections were conducted and the same impunity was repeated in my Langtang South Local Government. "I can report that the local government electoral officer did not collect the election result from any of the returning officers from the 15 state electoral wards before disappearing to Jos where the "results'' were announced. "Reports available to me show that the situation was the same in all other local governments. "Acts of impunity like this might lead to distrust of the government and may further bring instability to our state." Related Topics: #APC #DrNandulDurfa #SimonLalong #PlateauState Sharing is caring. REVEALED: Top APC Governor Distance Self From Alleged Plan To Support Atiku Posted: 31 Oct 2018 11:01 AM PDT
The Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-Makura has warned against his name being linked to the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar against APC presidential candidate, President Muhammadu Buhari.Umaru Al-Makura made the statement while reacting to online reports making the rounds of secretly meeting with the PDP presidential candidate in Dubai ahead of 2019 elections.Governor Al-Makura in a terse statement signed by his Director, Strategic Communications and Press Affairs, Yakubu Laimai, denied meeting with Atiku to support his presidential ambition against Buhari. He described the allegations as irresponsible propaganda being sponsored in Nasarawa State over 2019.Al-Makura blamed the opposition party for the report, saying the calculated attempt was designed to smear his political position in his mother-party, APC.The statement read: "The governor has never at any given time held a closed-door meeting in Dubai, UAE, with PDP's presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar over 2019 general elections as published by an online media in the state. "The claim that Governor Tanko Al-Makura has agreed to work for Atiku Abubakar to ensure he wins the presidential polls in Nasarawa State is not only a fallacy, distraction and attempts to sow seeds of discord in APC and with President Muhammadu Buhari, but a plan by the opposition to destroy the governor's hard-earned good records in the state." Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, the ex-governor of Kano State, said yesterday that his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, would regret hijacking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, structure in the state. The former Governor also said President Muhammadu Buhari will win the majority votes in the North but will not garner as much votes as he did in 2015.Shekarau said his prediction was premised on the strength of the opposition PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar who also hails from the North. He, however, said Buhari will ultimately defeat Atiku in the contest. The ex-governor in a recent interview with the Daily Trust on the sidelines of the conference of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) in Ibadan, yesterday, Shekarau, a chieftain of the APC noted that the 2019 election would not be as simple as the 2015 poll. But with massive mobilization, he said Buhari would win majority votes in the North and ultimately a re-election.Commenting on the chances of Buhari and Atiku, he said, "I don't think it is as simple as that. As a practical man, I wouldn't say that it is totally out of place. You cannot wish away the issue of regional, tribal, religious influences in anything that you do about people. Both of them (Buhari and Atiku) are from the North." "So I think it is going to be a very tall order in terms of the struggle that decides the votes in the North; there is no doubt about that. Buhari may not necessarily get all of the votes he got in 2015 but we are still very hopeful he is going to have majority votes, I have no doubt about that," he said. Shekarau, who dumped the PDP for APC recently after Kwankwaso returned to the party, insisted that the national leadership of the PDP practically handed over the leadership of the party to Kwankwaso. He said he was determined to sacrifice his presidential ambition for peace to reign in Kano State, noting that his members felt cheated by the way they were treated by the PDP leadership. He said he was today vindicated because the PDP in Kano was currently disintegrated, adding, "a large chunk has left for APC, a large chunk left for PRP (Peoples Redemption Party), and many of them have withdrawn from participating in political activities. "So what remains of PDP today? Just Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya group and I am sure they are going to regret it in 2019." Shekarau however said, he was not certain if Kwankwaso was contesting with him in the Kano Central Senatorial election but noted that he was not a challenge to his aspiration.
