Oyedepo Takes Stand Against PDP

Posted: 14 Nov 2018 12:02 AM PST

Iyiola Oyedepo

Iyiola Oyedepo, a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, says he will not hand over to the "illegal'' executives in the state.

Oyedepo told newsmen on Wednesday in Ilorin that the party's executives led by Kola Shittu was illegal.

Recall that Oyedepo, along with a majority of the PDP members in Kwara, had defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the wake of Senate President Bukola Saraki dumping the APC for the party.

"It is a well-known fact that as from the first day of August 2018, I ceased to be the chairman of PDP in Kwara State", NAN quoted him as saying.

"And since then, I have waited in vain that the party, PDP, will put its house in proper shape to elect a new executive of the party in accordance with the well-known provisions of its constitution," he said.

Oyedepo said he voluntarily left the office and would ensure a proper handing over of the party's properties.

"But there is the need to hand over to a lawfully and properly constituted executive of the party.

"It is my considered opinion that the Kwara State executive of the PDP as presently constituted is illegal and cannot be the proper people to whom the properties of the party can be entrusted.

"As far as I am concerned, the Kola Shittu-led executive is illegal and not properly constituted in accordance with the extant laws of PDP.

"Nobody in that executive can come forward to claim the properties of the party from me," Oyedepo said.

He advised the party to put its house in order before approaching him for the hand over notes.

Oyedepo noted that when he left PDP, there were still some members of the executive that did not leave with him.

According to Oyedepo, the former youth leader, Alhaji Mahmud Dansofo, had called him several times with the instruction that he should hand over to a new executive.

Oyedepo also said that there were still members of the then PDP executive still holding office.

"I left many other members of the executive that neither resigned nor was the executive dissolved by the National Executive of PDP.

"Something must be done to make the executive legal after my departure.

"If that is not done, whatever structure is put in place by the PDP in Kwara State is illegal and I cannot do any political business with an illegal body," Oyedepo stated.

2019 ELECTION: See Reasons & How El-Rufai Took A Fellow Muslim As Running Mate

Posted: 13 Nov 2018 11:42 PM PST

Malam Nasir El-Rufai & Dr. Hadiza Balarabe

Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the Kaduna State Governor, said he went through a difficult process to arrive at Dr. Hadiza Balarabe as his running mate for the 2019 poll.

The governor who spoke while receiving the people of Sanga local government of the state who came to thank him for picking Dr. Balarabe as his running mate, said when the current deputy, Yusuf Bala opted last year to run for the Senate in 2019, he was thrown into a dilemma as to who he will pick to run with him, the Daily Trust reports.

He said 32 persons were pencilled down initially and after sorting, it was narrowed down to 12 later 7 and later 5.

The governor said when the list was pruned down to 5 that he took it to President Muhammadu Buhari to help him decide.

El-rufai said when the president saw the list, he said he did not know any among them but advised El-Rufai to remove any name that is older than him.

El-Rufai said that further reduced the names of persons on the list to four made up of two men and two women.

"The president then told me that since I have included women in the list I should give them priority and that was how we arrived at Dr. Balarabe.

"But the president also asked me how old she was and I said I did not know because among the documents I had her age was not there.

"The president then said he hopes Dr. Balarabe is neither a Fulani nor Hausa like me and I said I do not know her ethnic group but I told him she's related to one of his aides, Alhaji Maikano, then he said if that is the case then she's Numana."

El-Rufai said the next challenge for him was how to get Dr. Balarabe's number and that it was his third wife that gave it to him after he made some calls.

"When I called her she said she was in Kenya, I told her I just came out of the president's office and he has affirmed that you should be my running mate in the 2019 elections and I asked her whether she accepts.

"She did not give an answer immediately but she called me back after some minutes and said she'd accepted," the governor explained.

He said after making the choice many respected persons called to tell him that he made the right choice as Dr. Balarabe is hard working and competent.

He said those that are criticizing the choice of Dr. Balarabe are those who would never have voted for him in the first place and said she was not appointed based on her religious beliefs.

BREAKING: President Buhari Lists Conditions For Restructuring

Posted: 13 Nov 2018 03:54 PM PST

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has listed conditions under which he could consider the restructuring of Nigeria.

Speaking during an interactive session with Nigerians based in France, the president stated that there should be a proper definition of what Nigerians want before the government can look into the issue of restructuring.

He said;

"There are too many people talking lazily about restructuring in Nigeria. Unfortunately, people are not asking them individually what do they mean by restructuring? What form do they want restructuring to take?"

Do they want us to have something like the three regions we used to have? And now we have 36 states and the FCT. What form do they want? They are just talking loosely about restructuring. Let them define it and then we see how we can peacefully do it in the interest of Nigerians.

They are just saying they want Nigeria restructured and they don't have the clue of what the form the restructuring should be. So, anybody who talks to you about restructuring in Nigeria, ask him what he means and the form he wants it to take."

The President is currently in France for a peace forum attended by over 50 world leaders.

President Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday spoke out on the bribe-taking videos of Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

He said the security agencies were vetting the video and that action would be taken on the matter soon, Daily Post reports.

"That aside, haven't you watched the videos of the governor stuffing dollars under his gown?" the president asked rhetorically.

"We gave the videos to security agencies for vetting. And we will surely take action on the matter if he is found guilty.".

Fani-Kayode Curses Buhari For Attempting To Demonise Nigerians

Posted: 13 Nov 2018 09:38 AM PST

Femi Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has placed a curse on President Muhammadu Buhari for attempting to demonise and demean the nation before the world.

Fani-Kayode said God would judge Buhari for condemning Nigerians during his speech in Paris on Sunday, Daily Post reports.

According to him, Buhari suffers from a low self-esteem and he has a big chip on his shoulder.

He wrote, "Our experience in Nigeria is that financial crimes, such as corruption and fraudulent activities, generate enormous unlawful profits which often prove so lucrative that the threat of a jail term is not sufficient to deter perpetrators"- President Muhammadu Buhari (aka Jubril Al Sudan), Paris, 10th Nov. 2018.

"What type of leader goes to a foreign country, describes his own people as rogues and consistently says this sort of thing about them? What type of leader goes to a foreign country and applauds other leaders when they describe Nigerians as being "fantastically corrupt"?

"What type of leader goes abroad and describes the youths of his country as being lazy? What type of leader displays nothing but hatred and contempt for his predecessors in office and for his people?

"The truth is that Buhari lacks confidence and has no self-respect. He suffers from a low self-esteem and he has a big chip on his shoulder. The only time he feels complete, secure or adequate is when he runs down other Nigerian leaders and the Nigerian people. I have never heard of a Nigerian leader that is as self-deprecating and unpatriotic as he is.

"None of our past leaders have ever denigrated or insulted the Nigerian people the way he keeps doing and this is made all the worse because he usually does so from abroad and through the foreign media.

God will judge him for attempting to demonise and demean us before the world and for calling us what we are not.

"Meanwhile I call on the National Assembly find the courage to begin impeachement procedings against Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and on the Department of State Security to arrest and prosecute him for misappropiation of public funds, diversion, money laundering, concealment and stealing.

"Given his illegal approval of 5.8 billion naira to NEMA I have no doubt that he is nothing but a common criminal and a cheap crook.

"He has accused others, including Obasanjo, Jonathan and Atiku, of being looters in the past yet the truth is that he and his boss Buhari are the biggest looters of all.

"Such is their looting and the looting of their cabinet members, government officials and APC Governors that they have turned Nigeria into a laughing stock, a looters paradise and the poverty capital of the world. It is time to kick them out and get Nigeria working again."

Earlier in the day, the ex-minster had insisted that the person occupying the Presidential Villa is not President Muhammadu Buhari.

See Reasons Skye Bank Plc Died – NDIC

Posted: 13 Nov 2018 08:39 AM PST

NDIC

The Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has revealed why Skye Bank Plc died.

NDIC said its risk assessment and forensic investigation reports revealed that the erstwhile management of the defunct bank contributed to its failure by engaging in insider abuse, poor corporate governance and banking malpractices.

A statement by Mr. Mohammed Kudu Ibrahim, Head, NDIC Communication and Public Affairs, yesterday, said the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the corporation, Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim, made the disclosure at the opening ceremony of the corporation's 2018 Sensitization seminar for Federal High Court Judges in Abuja.

The statement also quoted the MD to have said that "the reports identified various malpractices such as fraudulent, false accounting, manipulation of accounting records to present false profits and ratios, unlawful loan and credit facilities, non-disclosure of directors' interests and lending beyond the single obligor limit."

The statement also added that the NDIC and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) were monitoring the investigations of law enforcement agencies instituted against the directors and management of the failed Skye Bank Plc to determine their culpability in the failure of the bank.

The NDIC boss noted that the corporation's implementation of the bridge bank resolution option that established Polaris Bank Ltd that assumed the assets and liabilities of the defunct Skye Bank Plc, resulted in depositors' unhindered access to their funds, the continuity of the operations of about 300 branches and the preservation of over 6,000 jobs.

Speaking further, the MD/CE also informed participants that the corporation has commenced the payment of insured deposits to depositors of the 153 Microfinance and six Primary Mortgage Banks whose licenses were recently revoked by the CBN.

Government Of Buhari Has Spent N2.7Trn On Agriculture, Infrastructure – Lai Mohammed

Posted: 13 Nov 2018 07:54 AM PST

Alhaji Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that the Federal Government expended N2.7 trillion on agriculture and provision of other critical infrastructure in the 2017 budget.

The minister disclosed this at a Town Hall Meeting in Dutse on Monday to boost agriculture in the state in particular and the country in general.

The meeting had four ministers in attendance: Water Resources, Alhaji Suleiman Adamu, Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Trade, Industry and Investment (state), Hajiya Aisha Abubakar and Information, Lai Mohammed

NAN quoted Mohammed as saying that the government has been busy in rehabilitating and constructing rail lines to link all parts of the country with one another.

According to the minister, it was necessary to ensure transportation of perishable products like tomatoes, pineapples, onion among others to avoid wastage.

In his remark, agriculture minister, Chief Ogbeh said that it was unfortunate that most of the perishable items get spoiled on the way due to vehicle breakdown or other reasons, hence the need for alternative transportation.

Minister In Buhari’s Administration Blames Past Govts For Bad Roads In Nigeria

Posted: 13 Nov 2018 01:46 AM PST

Babatunde Fashola(SAN)

Babatunde Fashola(SAN), Nigeria Minister of Power, Works and Housing, has blamed past governments for not effectively utilising earned crude oil revenue to develop road and other infrastructures in the country.

The minister said this on Monday in Abuja while presenting a three-year scorecard of his ministry, Daily Post reports.

Fashola said "If those who came before us had done their work, we won't meet bad road. That is the simple truth. We earned $100 per barrel of crude oil for about five years.

"We knew what other countries like Abu Dhabi (UAE), Saudi Arabia did with their own, what did we do with ours? So this is a president and a government that is now trying to do more with less that it has. So give us some time, we will get there," Fashola said.

The minister said the federal government was executing road projects across every state, especially abandoned projects like the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, the second Niger bridge, Enugu-Port Harcourt road, Jebba-Mokwa way, among others that have drastically cut down travel time.

The ministry also gave statistics of road projects in the last three years. It said in 2016, 277 kilometres of road was constructed, 345km was rehabilitated and 17,749 people were employed in the process.

"For 2017, the FG constructed 488 roads, rehabilitated 256 others and engaged 31,227 persons. For 2018 till November, 497km of road has been constructed, 284 rehabilitated and 30,402 persons employed," he stated.
