Governor’s Village, Attacked By Hoodlums, Houses Burnt Down

Posted: 15 Nov 2018 11:57 PM PST

Youths believed to be hoodlums have burnt several houses and shops at Nnung Oku Ekanem, at Awa community, the hometown of the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel. The crisis, which started since Tuesday, has rendered several families homeless.

According to a report by Ofonime Honesty, on the fateful Tuesday morning, an indigene of Afaha Ubium community (name withheld) sauntered into neighbouring Nung Oku Ekanem alongside his wife to stealthily harvest cassava on a plot of land belonging to Mr. Evans Akpan Evans.

The suspects were caught in the act and handed over to police officers from the Onna Divisional Police Station, Abat, the headquarters of Onna Local Government Area.

Enroute the police station, armed youth from the suspects' village, having barricaded the land border between Afaha Ubium and Nung Oku Ekanem, descended on the police officers, beating them to pulp. They equally manhandled the complainant, Mr. Evans Akpan. The hoodlums succeeded in rescuing the suspects.

The police team later reinforced and stormed Afaha Ubium to rearrest the suspects. They, however, drove into an ambush of well armed hoodlums. In the ensuing fisticuffs, a police officer (name withheld) was reportedly macheted thrice by one of the assailants.
Sources say attempts were made by the youth to snatch the policemen's rifles.

The injured police officer, apparently reacting in self defence, shot dead one of the matchete wielding hoodlums.

The suspects were successfully rearrested by the police. By Tuesday evening, hoodlums believed to be mercenaries stormed Nnung Oku Ekanem with rifles and machetes. They proceeded to the palace of the village head, Eteidung Ntiense Nda, where they dumped the corpse of the slain member of their community.

They destroyed properties at the palace before shooting dead and carting away two pigs at the monarch's piggery.
The hoodlums proceeded to destroy the Nung Oku Ekanem village council as well as loot and destroy over 65 houses in the community.

Residents of the community decried the slow response by the police to their distress call but lauded the "swift response" of the army.

The people also lamented the nonintervention of Governor Udom Emmanuel, who was said have had a meeting with the member representing Onna State Constituency, Hon. Nse Essien; Onna Council Chairman, Imo Atatt; paramount ruler, Edidem Raymond Inyang, and others at Abat, the Local Government headquarters when the attacked occurred on Tuesday.

Meshack Katuka,s Open Letter To Peter Obi, Kaduna Ex Corper Who Served In Anambra

Posted: 15 Nov 2018 11:02 PM PST

Mr. Peter Obi

Open Letter to Mr. Peter Obi Angwal Village, Jaba LGA, Kaduna State. Wednesday, 14th November, 2018. HE, Peter Gregory Obi PDP Vice Presidential candidate.

My dear Mr. Obi,

Compliments of the citizen with warm regards. How are you and the season of politicking? Hope both you, Atiku nd your families are doing great. I wrote in response to your reply to one "Gov. Nasir Ahmed Elrufai" of Kaduna state who in his usual fashion of half truths alleged that you were a tribal bigot sometimes ago when u were a governor as a result of a story he probably cooked up regards being restricted to move around and forment trouble in Anambra state a certain time he came for election. I was pained at first when I saw on a newspaper that you dignified Mal. Nasir with a reply but became happy reading the first paragraph of your reply that carried the clause "my attention has been drawn to" suggesting that you didn't even notice he said something until you were notified. Sir, Mal. Elrufai for donkey years had been known to have launched media propaganda against many but eventually chickens out when facts are brought to the public for scrutiny.

He gains a lot of political capital in churning half truths and lies, hatred, daylight deception and no wonder, Former President Olusegun Obasanjo described him as "A pathological liar" in his book ; "My watch" ; a clear description of how Nasiru's Modus operandi had always been. Sir, You'll remember that; - On, April 7th , 2017, Mal. Nasir Ahmed Elrufai launched a media war on the very distinguished speaker of the house of representatives; RT.Hon. Dogara Yakubu after he personally invited him to Kaduna for a state function. This media war led to the display of pay slips to the public where the governor claimed that he earns less than 500,000 naira a month. When Dogara challenged him about the over 4.5 billion naira he collects monthly as security votes, he chickened out and claimed he used the security votes to buy CCTV cameras scattered across Kaduna State; a development residents of Kaduna are yet to see to this moment. Dogara brought facts to the public and since then, we never heard from Elrufai regards the matter. - On 8th September, 2017, Mal. Rufai attacked the former minister of women affairs, Haj. Jummai Alhassan. He claimed that she never supported Muhammadu Bihari's candidacy and that they warned Buhari not to appoint her as a minister but Buhari went ahead and did.

READ ALSO2019 Presidency: What Peter Obi Did To Me In 2014 – Gov. El-Rufai

From the stories we read, we learnt that Jummai Alhassan replied Elrufai with a threat to expose him regards his role in the bokoharam kidnap of School girls to discredit the Jonathan's government. Whatever that meant, we were surprised not to have received another reply from Rufai as he went numb with tails between the legs after the alleged threat. - On 1st October, 2015, Elrufai launched another media propaganda claiming that in the former government of Jonathan , N13billion was spent in 2011, N15billion in 2012 and N14billion in 2013 and N22billion allegedly spent in 2014 for Independence day celebration while only 70million naira was spent in 2015 by the Buhari led Administration. He was replied by Abubakar Sulaiman, the immediate past Minister of National Planning during the Goodluck Jonathan presidency. Abubakar told Nigerians that Elrufai had lied as a breakdown of the spending for this event between 2012 and 2104 goes thus; 2012-107.6million; 2013-45million and 2014 had 180million. Mallam Elrufai knowing that his claims were false, kept mute and never replied again. - Most recently, Mr. Elrufai told everyone that it was President Muhammadu Buhari that asked him to punish Shehu Sani for being disobedient to their party. In less than 24 hours, the presidency came out in clear terms to clear the air, affirming that their is no truth in what Elrufai had said. If one is to dwell in many of the inconsistent statements of Elrufai, a whole book with twelve chapters will be written but to safe time, let's embrace the description to which our Former President Olusegun Obasanjo described him with; The pathological liar.

Dear Mr. Obi, we thought Elrufai was going to compare his achievements with yours as:
1. Education; Your educational reforms in Anambra state is unequalled as i am a witness to how you heavily invested in infrastructuraldevelopment in public schools. You were concerned about developing ICT skills among young students, no wonder no public secondary school in Anambra state has less than a hundred computers in their computer labs with First grade hummer buses for all the secondary school in Anambra state for easy transportation. As a corp member back then in Anambra, I learnt of how you always had periodic meetings with class monitors of secondary schools in Anambra for the sake of monitoring and evaluation and how you expressly gave them permission to call you directly report any problem in their various schools. Your educational reforms yielded positive results as Anambra state emerged best in WAEC back to back during your period as governor. Elrufai on the other hand spent 10bn naira for a wasteful school feeding in 8months on 'moi-moi', fried yam, Jolly Jus drinks and the likes which all ended in the suckaway with results of Kaduna state coming 12th position in WAEC in 2017 against the 10th position they were in 2014.

2. Roads: Sir, your Administration paid a lot of attention to construction of roads across Anambra state and because of you, Anambra today has the highest kilometres of state owned roads in Nigeria. The Awgbu bridge which is the longest bridge built by a state government in Nigeria, links my friend's community; Obi Trice Emeka. Elrufai cannot boast of any 10km of standard road, anywhere around Kaduna State.

READ ALSOThis Is What I Will Do To El-Rufai For Calling Me 'Tribal Bigot'- Peter Obi

3. Security: While you invested heavily on local security, empowering Vigilante service to reduce any forms of killing, Your friend in Kaduna state mobilised funds to go as far as Chad and Mali to appease foreign mercenaries without any permission from the Minister of foreign affairs, DSS, Defence ministry etc an act of insubordination, treasonable felony, Novel arrogance that yielded no results as the kidnap along Kaduna-Abuja highway, Kachia-Kaduna road and the killings in southern Kaduna had heightened.

4. Debt Profile: While you left Anambra state with 75billion naira for the next government, Elrufai tirelessly seemed to collect a loan of $350 million that will take Kaduna State about 50 years to repay; something he had always criticised when he was in the opposition.

5. Modest Lifestyle: Your life as a governor in Anambra was characterised by modesty. In Kaduna today, we know more about Elrufai's children and their flaggerant Lifestyles; snapping in parties abroad with white women and posting on social media while insulting and denigrating poor Nigerians. It will interest you to know that we don't know the names of Ahmed Makarfi children, Namadi Sambo''s Patrick Yakowa 's or even Ramalan Yero's who were all governors in Kaduna but even kids on the street today know the likes of Bello Elrufai, Bashir Elrufai and the likes for the flamboyant and wasteful Lifestyles they live. Sir, if Elrufai says he was stopped from moving around in Anambra state during election, it is not new to us as he claimed he was also stopped from moving around in Ekiti elections if 2014. This affirms the possibility of Security operatives seeing him as a trouble maker, crisis entrepreneur that has capability of erupting a crisis where he lands. Elrufai seeks to compare himself with your personality; something President Buhari himself will never attempt to. In view of this, I will kindly advise that you pay no attention again to any tantrums Elrufai will throw in the near future as it is only a trick to draw attention to himself. Your integrity and statesmanship is bigger than 50 Elrufais combined in this life and the one thereafter. Until we meet, accept assurances of my highest esteem.
Kind regards. Meshack Katuka katukameshack@yahoo.com

JUST IN: Oshiomhole In Serious Trouble As DSS Asks Buhari To Prosecute Him

Posted: 15 Nov 2018 02:56 PM PST

Adams Oshiomhole

President Muhammadu Buhari, has been urged by the Department of State Services (DSS), to prosecute Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), for allegedly receiving at least $55million in bribes before and after the party primaries all over the country.

In October, Oshiomhole and his cronies reportedly received up to N50million in bribes to award last-minute tickets to undeserving members of the party.

The DSS subsequently grilled Oshiomhole last week, with reports emerging that the former labour leader had been asked to quit the office.

Oshiomhole responded by saying the DSS did not hire him, hence couldn't demand his resignation from office.

"Total $55 million is what Adams is alleged to have received. Some party chieftains claim it is $80 million," a source aware of the contents of the report told newsmen.

According to report, $17 million is what Oshiomhole allegedly received as bribe from Zamfara: $10 million for him, $7 million shared between Farouk Adamu, former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives; Niyi Adebayo, former Governor of Ekiti State. He received from other party chieftains, too.

"Adamu was the collection coordinator," said the source.

"Hope Uzodinma, the APC governorship candidate in Imo State, gave $3 million; Rochas Okorocha, Governor of the state, offered $500,000 but it was rejected; Dapo Abiodun, the APC candidate in Ogun State, paid $5 million. The DSS also said some of the money was paid into Oshiomhole's niece's account."

It is unclear if Buhari will follow the recommendation of the DSS for Oshiomhole's prosecution, but there is some pressure from Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the APC, and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, to give the former Edo State Governor a soft landing.

"Their thought is that with the 2019 election so close, such upheaval will not be in the interest of the party's aspiration for victory," the source added.

Atiku Discloses How Boko Haram Was Formed, Speaks On Nnamdi Kanu, Dasuki

Posted: 15 Nov 2018 01:52 PM PST

Atiku Abubakar

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former vice President and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Presidential Candidate, has said Boko Haram was formed by youths abandoned by politicians.

The PDP presidential candidate stated this in a chat with The Africa Report while speaking on how he'll counter the sect.

"I happen to know how Boko Haram came into being. They were offshoots of political thuggery. Politicians used those boys in Boko Haram to win elections and then abandoned them and then there were no jobs for them.

"It was the same thing with the Niger Delta. In 1998, I saw it myself and I warned people.

"It's going to be a multifaceted approach. It will involve negotiations. It will involve military action", he said.

On the incessant herders/farmers clashes and cattle-rustling, Atiku declared that grazing reserves was the solution.

"In each province in the north, we used to have a grazing reserve. During the season, the cattle are in the reserves.

"When it is off-season when farmers would have cultivated all their crops, then the cattle move out to the areas where the farmers have cultivated, allowing the grass in the grazing reserves to grow. These grazing reserves have been abandoned over the years.

On the fate of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu and former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, Atiku noted that the rule of law must be respected.

His words: "I don't want to be individualistic on this issue. I reject any illegal detention, any detention that is not based on rule of law and order.

"Dasuki is being detained illegally. It is only a court that will say whether he is guilty or not."

On calls for secession by some South-East, Atiku hinted on "a conference to discuss reconstruction"

"I don't think there is any part of this country that wants to leave this country. All they want is fairness, equity and justice", he stated.

Senate Discovers Another $1.15bln Withdrawal From NLNG Accounts By NNPC, Now $2.2bln

Posted: 15 Nov 2018 02:13 AM PST

Nigeria Senate Chambers

The Senate Committee on Gas on Wednesday said it has uncovered a fresh illegal withdrawal of $1.15 billion from the dividends accounts of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation.

The new revelation is different from the $1.05 billion which the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Maikanti Baru, had earlier admitted was withdrawn on the presidential directive, a report by Punch notes.

Two weeks ago, PREMIUM TIMES published documents of how the federal government illegally diverted $1.05 billion (N378 billion at N360 to a dollar) to secretly fund subsidy payment on petroleum products.

Documents published by this newspaper show that the fund was sourced at the height of the fuel scarcity crisis between last December and January and was secretly diverted into payments on petrol supply and distribution.

Dividends from the gas firm are meant to be shared by the federal, state and local governments of Nigeria. The funds are supposed to be paid into the Consolidated Revenue Fund of the Federation rather than spent unilaterally by any tier of government.

PREMIUM TIMES, in the report, confirmed that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government unilaterally — without required consultation with states and the National Assembly– tampered with the NLNG funds. That was also done without appropriation by the National Assembly.

The Senate in a reaction mandated its committee on gas to look into the matter.

On Wednesday, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas, Senator Bassey Akpan, explained that the $1.05 billion was withdrawn to bridge the gap of losses being suffered by the corporation on landing cost of imported fuel which is N185 compared to the pump price of N145.

The same panel was mandated by the Senate, two weeks ago, to probe the $1.05 billion which the NNPC withdrew from the accounts in April this year without authorisation by relevant authorities.

The committee subsequently ordered the NNPC and the CBN to submit documents relating to the withdrawals made from the NLNG dividends account within the last two years.

While going through the NLNG documents presented to it on Wednesday by the Chief Operating Officer (Finance) at the CBN, Babatunde Adeniran, the committee observed a series of cash debited from the account from November 2016 to June this year totalling $2.201 billion.

The breakdown of the withdrawals not supported by required approving documents as observed by the committee are $86.5 million withdrawn from the account on November 22, 2016, allegedly being payment on Paris Club loans to the Nigerian Governors Forum, and the $1.05 billion withdrawn on April 17, 2018, as National Fuel Support Fund.

Others are $650 million withdrawn from the account on June 7 this year to offset the Joint Venture Cash Call by the NNPC which ordinarily supposed to be a budget item payment, and $415, 063 million withdrawn from the account also in June without clear explanation on the purpose for which it was meant for.

Not satisfied with the series of withdrawals, the Senate panel ordered officials of the CBN and the NNPC who represented their bosses on Wednesday to forward to it, latest by Tuesday next week, supporting and approving documents for the withdrawals.

Mr Akpan registered his displeasure at the conduct of the two agencies involved.

"From the available documents before us, apart from the $1.05 billion that we are mandated by the Senate to investigate, we have also discovered that several withdrawals were made from the NLNG dividends account without the required supporting documents to back them.

"This is unacceptable to us. We are also not happy that the GMD of NNPC and CBN Governor are not here personally. We are, therefore, not going to continue with the session today.

"Both the NNPC and the CBN must furnish this committee with other relevant documents on the withdrawals latest by Tuesday next week and the NNPC GMD, the Corporations Group Executive Director, Finance, Isiaka Abdulrasak, and the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, must also appear before us."

Mr Akpan said a document tagged, "Memo NNPC GMD 49" signed by Mr Baru and sent through the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, "had no clear-cut language of a request for approval for the withdrawal of the $1.05 billion but a mere notification".

"Approval for withdrawal from such fund was supposed to be given by the National Economic Council being an account or dividends owned by the three tiers of government."
