Northern Leaders Reply Ex-President, Reveals How Jonathan Caused His Defeat In 2015

Posted: 22 Nov 2018 03:45 PM PST

President Goodluck Jonathan

Northern leaders has responded to a statement by former President Goodluck Jonathan blaming the leaders for his defeat in 2015.

Jonathan had on Tuesday claimed that former Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who defected to the then opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), and northern leaders worked against him in 2015.

He made the claim in a book about his tenure in office titled: "My Transition Hours" which was launched on Tuesday., Daily Post reports.

However, ACF, reacting, said the former leader should rather be held responsible for his defeat.

The group in a statement issued on Wednesday and signed by the National Publicity Secretary of ACF, Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, titled 'Reactions to Former President Goodluck Jonathan's statement in his book, "My Transition Hours", noted that the former president's habit of not keeping to his words caused his defeat.

The statement read: "Northern leaders and the socio-political group worked against him in the 2011 & 2015 elections noted that the former leader didn't keep to his words and that was responsible for his defeat.

"Even, though ACF was yet to get hold of the book, the link quoting the statement credited to Jonathan's in the book, "My Transition Hours", it became necessary for the forum to comment on the said statement.

"According to the statement, it was on record that Jonathan contested the 2011 and 2015 against the zoning arrangement of his party that zoned the presidential slot to the North.

"Therefore, his assertions that Northern leaders and Sociopolitical groups in the North worked against his presidency is rather odd, considering the circumstances at that time.

"Yet he won the Presidency in 2011 and the ruling party also secured 25% in some states of the North in the 2015 presidential elections. It may interest you to know that his party has since admitted the oversight in the party's 2015 winning game plan.

"This clearly means that leaders should always honour their words with deeds if they want to earn the respect of their followers, the statement maintained."

See How Crowd Embarrassed Amaechi While Defending Buhari In Abuja

Posted: 22 Nov 2018 10:29 AM PST

Rotimi Amaechi,

Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transport, has been booed and shouted down by an angry audience for attempting to reel out the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari's government.

The drama ensued on Thursday at a town hall meeting/presidential debate organised by the Osasu Show Symposium in Abuja.

Buhari had confirmed his participation at the presidential debate but neither put up an appearance nor sent in a representative.

However, the Minister who was not part of the debaters, took to the stage to mock the candidate of the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar over his plan to privatise the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

He alleged that Atiku's plan of privatising the state-owned oil company was laced with corrupt intentions.

Afterwards, he went further to attempt a reel out President Buhari's achievements in office but was met with the resistance of the audience.

The audience booed him and shouted 'sit down!' 'sit down!' for as long as Amaechi tried to speak in praise of the government.

Overwhelmed by the apparent anti-Buhari chants, the Minister caved into the pressure and took his seat.

DAILY POST reports that Presidential candidates who debated against one another included Oby Ezekwesili (ACPN), Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Donald DukeTope Fasua (ANRP), and Ali Soyode (YES Party),

What Buhari And Southeast Govs, Ekweremadu Discussed At Meeting Emerges

Posted: 22 Nov 2018 03:18 AM PST

President Buhari presiding over meeting with South East Governors

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured that all ongoing federal projects in the South East will be funded, saying that the seven-month delay in passing this year's budget will not serve as an excuse.

The President gave the assurance during a meeting with South-East Governors and the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, on Wednesday at the State House, Abuja.

He pledged that the Federal Government would sustain the support to the South-East in terms of infrastructure.
''I assure you that we are doing our best and will not default on the agreements signed on ongoing projects,'' the President told the delegation, led by Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu, Daily Post reports.

He explained that part of the noticeable problems in the delay in the execution of the capital projects was caused by the budget hold-up.
He said: ''When you sign, and you don't pay, they (contractors) can legally jerk up their costs. This is part of the problem.
''The infrastructure budget is a deficit budget. The borrowing plan was only approved three weeks ago and all ministers and departments of government have been instructed to forge ahead. We must not find excuses for delaying the projects.

''Developing infrastructure is the best thing we can do. When the roads are okay, the rails are established and there is power, Nigerians will flourish in their businesses.''

On the undulating surface of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, the President assured that it would be addressed in the new budget.

He also spoke of government's serious interest in the new Port-Harcourt-Maiduguri standard gauge railway which traverses several states, including those in the South East.
President Buhari was accompanied to the meeting by the Secretary to the Government, Boss Mustapha and some cabinet ministers, including that of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi and Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.

The president responded from point to point on all the issues raised by the governors, to their satisfaction.
The Minister of Transportation gave assurance that this project, the single most costly rail project at 12 billion dollars, would soon be coming to the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The Ministers were directed to follow up with the private sector on key projects in the region, including the South East Dry Port and the Geometric Power Plant in Aba, to untangle the problems causing their delayed take-off.

On behalf of the Governors, Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi said they came specifically to thank the President for the award of the contract for the major component of the second Niger Bridge at the cost of N206 billion.

''The project is the dream of our people and it has become a dream come true. Our people said we must come and thank you. Your Excellency, Mr President we are grateful Sir,'' he said.
While enumerating some challenges confronting the Governors to the President, Umahi said: ''out of mutual respect, we have come to you as a caring leader to listen to us.''
Other governors on the delegation were Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke.

ACF, NEF Re-Affirms; 'No Regrets Working Against Jonathan'

Posted: 22 Nov 2018 01:51 AM PST

Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria's ex-President

The Arewa Consultative Forum and the Northern Elders' Forum on Wednesday defended their opposition to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan when he contested the 2011 and the 2015 presidential elections.

The groups, in separate interviews with The PUNCH, indicated that they had no regrets for their position in the two elections.

On its part, the ACF while justifying its position, said leaders should learn to honour their words.

The spokesman for NEF, Prof. Ango Abdullahi, told one of our correspondents on the telephone that the North worked against the former President because he and his party jettisoned the power shift (zoning) policy.

He said the forum never hid the reason for working against Jonathan, as according to him, "We told him(Jonathan)why we worked against him," he stated.

He added that the forum expected the former President to respect the zoning formula shortly after the death of the late President Umaru Yar'Adua but regrettably, Jonathan and his party reneged on the zoning agreement.

The former Ahmadu Bello University vice-chancellor, stated, "Yes, it is true that Northern Elders' Forum worked against Jonathan and we told him why.

"They themselves (PDP) admitted that they made a mistake in reneging on the power shift and why what happened happened," the spokesman said.

On its part, the ACF adduced the same reason for working against the former President and his party, saying Jonathan contested in 2011 and 2015 against the arrangement of his party that zoned the presidency to the North.

The National Publicity Secretary of the ACF, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim-Biu, told one of our correspondents that the former President's assertion that the North worked against him was odd, considering the "circumstances at that time." The spokesman admonished Nigerian leaders to always honour agreements they entered into.

He said, "It is on record that Jonathan contested the 2011 and 2015 polls against the zoning arrangement of his party that zoned the presidential slot to the North.

"Therefore, his assertions that Northern leaders and socio-political groups in the North worked against his presidency is rather odd, considering the circumstances at that time.

"Yet the ruling party secured 25 per cent in most states of the North. It may interest you to know that his party has since admitted the oversight in the party winning game plan."

He added, "This clearly means that leaders should always honour their words with deeds if they want to earn the respect of their followers."

The former President, in his new book, 'My Transition Hour' had said that he battled opposition from Northern leaders and socio-political groups, which felt he was usurping power from the region.

Jonathan said the northern power blocs had tried to deny him his constitutional right of contesting the 2010 presidential election after the death of President Umaru Yar'Adua in 2010.

According to him, despite the threats and opposition, he was able to win the 2011 election.

Presidency Speaks Out On Fake Buhari In Aso Rock – Reveals Plans

Posted: 22 Nov 2018 01:22 AM PST

Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla

The Special Assistant to the President on Prosecution and respected lawyer, Mr. Okoi Obono-Obla, has written to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Police requesting the probe of one Bishop Eze Orieke for allegedly spreading rumours of the death of President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the acknowledgment copies of the separate letters, dated November 14, 2018, and addressed to the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Yusuf Bichi, and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, Obono-Obla, specifically informed the heads of the security agencies in his petitions that Orieke made the false claim with purported documents from the London Bridge Hospital (Regional Medical Laboratory) to back it on the wall of a Facebook group called Ohafia Political Forum.

Copies of the documents, which were allegedly attached to the Facebook post and which Obono-Obla forwarded with his petitions to the security agencies, included a purported death certificate issued by the National Population Commission indicating that Buhari died of cardiac arrest in Abuja on September 19, 2017.

Mr. Obla, who has been very instrumental to the President's fight against corruption, described the act as "ill-motivated, distasteful and made in extreme bad faith,"

The letters read in part, "The said documents are attached herewith for your attention and consideration.

"It is a notorious fact and incontrovertible proof that his excellency, Muhammadu Buhari is not dead but very much alive and kicking."

He added that the post on Facebook and the documents attached to it by the said Orieke "are fake and calculated to cause panic, disaffection and undermine national security."

"The act violated the provisions of section 24(1)(a),(b) and (2)(a),(b),(c)(i),(ii) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition & Prevention etc) Act, 2015."

Offences under the said provision carry between three to 10 years imprisonment with or without fines ranging between N7m and N15m.

"In the light of the above, I respectfully urge you to investigate this matter," the anti-corruption czar stated.

Our correspondent's search of the Facebook accounts of both Bishop Eze Orieke and the Ohafia Political Forum did not yield a positive result.

Also, repeated attempts to contact the said Orieke through a phone number supplied in the petitions as his were also futile.

The repeated calls made to the telephone line indicated that the contact could not be reached.

The legal provisions which the suspect allegedly flouted according to Obono-Obla include, "(1) 24. (1) Any person who knowingly or intentionally sends a message or other matter by means of computer systems or network that-

"(a) is grossly offensive, pornographic or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character or causes any such message or matter to be so sent; or

"(b)    he knows to be false, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred, ill will or needless anxiety to another or causes such a message to be sent: commits an offence under this Act and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not more than N7m or imprisonment for a term of not more than three years or to both such fine and imprisonment."

"(2) Any person who knowingly or intentionally transmits or causes the transmission of any communication through a computer system or network –

"(a)   to bully, threaten or harass another person, where such communication places another person in fear of death, violence or bodily harm or to another person."

"(b)  containing any threat to kidnap any person or any threat to harm the person of another, any demand or request for a ransom for the release of any kidnapped person, to extort from any person, firm, association or corporation, any money or other thing of value; or

"(c) containing any threat to harm the property or reputation of the addressee or of another or the reputation of a deceased person or any threat to accuse the addressee or any other person of a crime, to extort from any person, firm, association, or corporation, any money or other thing of value: commits an offence under this Act and shall be liable on conviction-

"(i) in the case of paragraphs (a) and (b) of this subsection to imprisonment for a term of 10 years and/or a minimum fine of N25,000,000.00; and

"(ii) in the case of paragraph (c) and

"(d)  of this subsection, to imprisonment for a term of five years and/or a minimum fine of N15m."

More details later…
