Panic In PDP As Governors, Leaders Work Secretly For Buhari’s Re-Election

Posted: 26 Nov 2018 04:58 PM PST

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari

Ahead of the 2019 general elections, some information have emerged that some governors and chieftains of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are working secretly for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the information, the governors, it was learnt at the weekend, have been meeting secretly with key government officials and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to plot strategies on how to deliver huge votes to the president in the 2019 general elections.

A competent source, who is privy to the arrangement, said that most of the PDP governors and leaders involved are those from the Southern part of the country and a few from the North, especially North-East where the PDP presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, hails from. According to the source, who prefers anonymity, PDP governors from the South-East and South- South are particularly unhappy with the choice of Mr. Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, as running mate to Atiku for the 2019 presidential election.

The South-East governors had earlier fiercely opposed the Atiku/Obi ticket because they claimed it was against the promise, which the former vice president made to them prior to the national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The source confirmed to our correspondents that PDP has been unable to persuade most of their aggrieved governors to accept the Atiku/Obi ticket.

"I can authoritatively confirm to you that some of PDP governors are working for President Buhari. The concerns raised earlier by the governors that the zonal leaders were not consulted before the nomination of Obi is still much there. "Some of these governors have also realised that it will be difficult to sustain the level of intervention, which the current government has made in the region, if another administration takes over power," he said. Similarly, some governors in the South-South, especially those seeking second terms in office, were said to be hobnobbing with the ruling party for selfsurvival. New Telegraph gathered that the plot is to concede the presidential election to the ruling party in exchange for a second term mandate in their states.

The main opposition party may also be in for more shockers except it is able to rein in some of its chieftains who participated in the last presidential primary but lost the ticket. Our source said that PDP should be concerned that some of these former presidential aspirants have retired to the background and have been too cold towards the activities of PDP since the convention ended in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. Another source said that with the corruption allegations hanging around the presidential candidate of PDP, it is increasingly becoming difficult to market him to the electorate in the North where President Buhari is largely perceived as a man of integrity.

The source explained that in the South-West, there is the consideration that the Yoruba will be shooting themselves in the foot if they work against President Buhari who has their son, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as vice and running mate. New Telegraph sought the confirmation of the report from a top member of APC who said that in politics, nothing is impossible.

The party chieftain, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, said it was PDP governors and party chieftains that were making overtures to the ruling party. "Overtures have been made. We are not the ones making the overtures. The PDP leaders are the ones making the overtures. The truth of the matter is that PDP is a divided house and there are many people there who do not like their presidential candidate; unlike in APC where there is no single governor or party leader that does not support the candidature of President Buhari.

"They may have their local problems, local politics, but there is no single person that does not support President Buhari. There is a unity of purpose and unanimity of determination to work for the candidate of our party. "But in their own case, they have a divided house, especially from the region where their vice presidential candidate comes from. They have made it very obvious by their body language. Imagine on the eve of a major election year, you pack yourselves and go to meet the president to say 'thank you for what you have been doing for us.' "This is because for them, their personal survival and second term mandate is more important than their party producing the next president. They are in total disarray and it is for us to capitalise on it. "As for the president, so many factors are just conspiring to work in his favour because we don't need to work too hard in the South-West to get them to support the president's reelection.

They know that if they miss the opportunity of supporting him and getting the Presidency in 2023, it will take them another 24 years before it comes to them again," he said. However, National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr. Kola Ologbodiyan, has described the insinuations by APC that some opposition governors were working for Buhari as an exercise in self-delusion. "APC and President Buhari are in self-delusion. Even all Nigerians are sick and tired of President Buhari and APC. Not a single PDP governor is campaigning for Buhari. It is just a rumour and it will remain as that," Ologbondiyan told New Telegraph. Meanwhile, the two major political parties, APC and PDP, have identified the Middle Belt as a possible decider for the presidential election and have launched clandestine moves to capture the votes of the region. As part of the broad strategies to swing the votes in their favour, both parties are said to have invested in many smaller political parties right at the point of the registration of these parties to ensure that they exercised control over them.

The major political parties also worked hard in pulling the right strings that produced their favoured candidates in these other parties. Although the forthcoming presidential contest is presumed a two-horse race and a straight fight between President Buhari and Atiku, there are at least 78 other presidential candidates flying the flags of other political parties. An insider in one of the political parties who has been following the developments confided in New Telegraph that a good number of the presidential candidates across the fringe parties were moles of either PDP or APC, planted to play the spoiler game.

"Why do you think there are so many political parties and many presidential candidates? It is not for nothing; many of them are moles of the two dominant parties. They are in the race not just because of the plural nature of our politics, but hold ground and lock down some votes for their sponsors.

"Many of them you find in the Middle Belt are strategically positioned to galvanise local sentiments that could whittle down the influence of the major political parties," he said. Ahead of the crucial elections, general permutation has been that Buhari and Atiku would mobilise massive votes from the North-West and North- East respectively, but would need to fight over the North- Central, which has always been a fallow ground for politicians of northern extraction. New Telegraph gathered that with the rather poor handling of the herdsmen/ farmers clashes by the Federal Government, the APC had been apprehensive that the electorate in the Middle Belt region which extends beyond the North Central geo-political zone and consists of minority ethnic nationalities across the North had been sufficiently provoked to cast protest votes against the ruling party.

"They know that with what happened in Benue, Plateau, Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna states, the APC was losing ground to the advantage of its main rival, the PDP, hence, using smaller political parties with local figures as candidates could effectively divide the available and prevent the main opposition party from sweeping the polls in the Middle Belt," the source said.

Boko Haram: How Buhari Ignored Nigerian Troops, Spent N100m On Plagiarised Advert - Atiku

Posted: 26 Nov 2018 04:27 PM PST

President Buhari and Service Chiefs

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential candidate of Nigeria's main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress, APC, of ignoring the welfare of soldiers fighting Boko Haram while spending N100m on "plagiarised campaign advert."

Abubakar, a former Vice President stated that neither Buhari nor the APC had done much to alleviate the suffering of the troops on the frontline, Daily Post reports.

A statement by Atiku's Media Office reads, "That the Waziri Adamawa asked for anyone who wished to give him birthday gifts to instead endow such on the families of the slain heroes is the opposite of selfishness.

"Ironically, the All Progressives Congress that is now accusing Atiku Abubakar, has not seen fit to pay tribute to these gallant men who gave their lives in order to secure the lives of others. As a party, they have not issued even one statement condoling with the slain or their families, neither have they offered any tangible support to the families of these fallen heroes. Yet, they are accusing the Waziri, who has shown commitment to honouring these heroes, of selfishness.

"As a matter of fact, we now know through Premium Times report, that these real Nigerian heroes were killed on November 18, 2018 which was the exact time that the candidate of the APC, Muhammadu Buhari, invited the service chiefs to attend the launch of the plagiarised #NextLevel launch at the banquet hall of the Presidential Villa.

"The nation can only wonder if the Metele massacre could have been avoided if the APC and President Buhari had allowed the service chiefs to focus on their core duties, rather than on his ill-fated re-election campaign.

"We at the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation commend the service chiefs for beating a hasty retreat from the event as soon as they discovered that President Buhari was trying to hoodwink them.

"It took Waziri Atiku Abubakar only a few hours to respond to the incident and express support, while it took the APC's President Buhari a whole week to express "shock". We, therefore, wonder who is truly 'selfish'.

"It is left to Nigerians to compare and contrast who is a leader and who is a follower based on the conduct of these two parties.

"In any case, we would like to inform the APC of Waziri Atiku Abubakar's call for financial support from well-meaning individuals and Institutions for the survivors of the Metele massacre, and indeed for all who paid the supreme sacrifice in the frontlines for us to be safe. Seeing as the APC spent ₦100 million to buy frontpage advertorials in all the papers on that fateful day of November 18, 2018, we appeal to them to consider donating even 10% of that amount to the endowment for the families of our heroes as proposed by Atiku Abubakar.

"If they can spend ₦100 million to promote fraud, they should be able to spare at least ₦10 million to promote patriotism."

Obasanjo, Jonathan, Six Governors Honour Atiku's Turbaning As Wazirin Adamawa

Posted: 26 Nov 2018 03:20 PM PST

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, bending to greet the Lamido

Nigeria two ex-presidents, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, were among the top dignitaries who attended the turbaning ceremony of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the 'Wazirin Adamawa' on Sunday.

The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, led a large number of National Assembly members to the occasion.

Governors Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa State), Udom Emmanuel (Akwa-Ibom), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto State), Ishaku Darius Dickson (Taraba State), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Adulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State were also at the ceremony.

Political coloration betrayed what was meant to be a cultural event, as PDP symbols filled Yola. All major streets were decorated in PDP colors such that one would mistake the state for a PDP-controlled one.

Earlier before the turbaning ceremony, and even after it, Peter Obi, Atiku's running mate, anchored sideline political meetings on the need to reassess and to solidify the PDP strategy towards wresting power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Saraki, Director General of the Atiku Presidential Campaign, took charge of the meeting of PDP presidential aspirants, to perfect the cementing of unity. Tambuwal, Kwankwaso and Dankwambo spoke of their commitment to the Atiku project.

Former President Obasanjo, who was a special guest, described Atiku as a well-cultured man who has what it takes to re-position the country.

Speaking of his relationship with Atiku, Obasanjo recalled how Atiku handled his duties with deep sense of responsibility.

"I have known Atiku for a while, and can state that he handles all responsibilities meticulously," he said.

"Let me thank the Lamido on behalf of all of us who are friends, colleagues and co-workers of Atiku for the honour you have done him by conferring the title of Waziri on him."

Former Chairman of DAAR Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, criticised President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the APC as a "party branded in propaganda and lies".

"Buhari was marketed to Nigerians on false assumption that as a Major General he has what it takes to end Boko Haram.

"But the stack reality is that he does not know what to do; the man was overrated; and let me tell you Buhari has never passed any military exams in his life."

Buhari was represented at the event by FCT Minister, Musa Bello, just as Governor Jibrilla Bindow was represented by his Deputy Governor, Martin Babale.

FG’s Ransom To Boko Haram Aiding Terrorists Strengnt Over Nigerian Army – Olapade Agoro Explodes

Posted: 26 Nov 2018 11:33 AM PST

Dr. Olapade Agoro

Dr. Olapade Agoro, former presidential candidate of the National Action Council (NAC), on Sunday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, raised an alarm that the huge amount of money paid to Boko Haram terrorists by the Federal Government as ransoms for the release of Chibok and Dapchi school girls has given the terrorists upper hand over the Nigerian Army.

Agoro, who made this revelation while reacting to the reported killing of about 100 Nigerian soldiers by Boko Haram fighters during the Metele attack, insisted that the menacing dangers confronting Nigeria are more than the 2019 general elections.

According to him, Nigerian leaders and the political class should urgently address the scourge facing the country, rather than talking about the 2019 general elections, Daily Post reports.

Agoro added that the Boko Haram issue in particular has become a recurring decimal whenever general elections are approaching.

He noted further that since the Federal Government reportedly paid whooping sums of money to free some Chibok and Dapchi school girls, the initial successes recorded by the Nigerian Army in the war against insurgency in the North-East have suffered setback.

Agoro said that it is logical to think that the ransoms reportedly paid to Boko Haram has given the terrorist group the much needed money to purchase more sophisticated weapons to kill Nigerian soldiers.

He also called on President Muhammodu Buhari to talk to the nation on the renewed aggression by Boko Haram insurgents, saying that urgent actions are needed from the President.

Agoro said, "It is sad that Boko Haram mutilated over 100 Nigerian soldiers in the Metele attacks. Not only was the situation gory, sad and embarrassing, it borders on the nerves of the nation that the President, a retired General was reluctant to reaction and talk to the nation on the attacks.

"It must be remembered that President Buhari moved the military command to Borno state three years ago, an action that led to Nigeria securing victory against Boko Haram by opening up the Sambisa forest.

"It is therefore logical to think that the ransoms reportedly paid to Boko Haram has renewed the strength of the terrorist group ".

“If You Are Not Ready To Hear The Truth, Don’t Come To My Palace!”

Posted: 26 Nov 2018 09:45 AM PST

Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos

Oba Rilwan Akiolu of Lagos, in this interview, speaks on the state of the nation among other issues. Excerpts:

How did you emerge as the Oba of Lagos?

Any genuine prince from the day he is born has an ultimate aim to ascend the throne. Any prince that does not aspire to become a king may be impure. The Bible says many are called but few are chosen. The person who God chooses should operate with the fear of God, absolute discipline and honesty.

The welfare of his subjects and all should be paramount to him. He should   also be a no-nonsense person. He should not fear anybody, no matter how highly placed the person may be, he should be able to say the truth at all times. That is the way I operate. The same respect I give to labourers, I also give to billionaires.

With all that is going on in this country today,   I am not God but I pray and will work towards President Buhari doing his second term. This   country should not go back to corrupt people. Buhari does not have 100% wisdom and knowledge; he has to be assisted. If God brings him back, God will help him to choose those that will work with him to make things better.

Nigeria is blessed, but most of our leaders are not only greedy, but also incurably bad and they know themselves.

What are the challenges you face in ruling Lagos?

I am not ruling, that is why I say people should not call me Kabiyesi, God is the only Kabiyesi, power belongs to God, authority belongs to government, while influence belongs to monarchs

What is the driving force behind your success as king?

The support of God and the support of people. One thing that is still bogging my mind as king is the poverty of the people, not only in Lagos, but Nigeria as a whole. We can get majority out of poverty. Not only government, everybody has to contribute. With N10,000 now, by midnight much of the money is gone.

What is your advice to government and the people, especially the youth as we approach the 2019 general elections?

It is unfortunate, many Nigerians are deceiving themselves. The kind of politics we play here is 'money politics.'  Politicians should bring their manifestos and their followers should make sure they deliver on their promises. But for some people to line-up somewhere and be collecting $20,000, $25,000 to pick a presidential candidate is wrong. If the person gets there, he will first recoup his money.

I pray those people should not get there. It's unfortunate that Buhari did not stay long as Head of State in 1984, Nigeria would have been better. Buhari is one of the few, politicians who are not materialistic. Majority of them are 'grab –grab' politicians. Let me use this medium to tell all those politicians moving about because election is coming, that if they are not ready to hear the truth, they should not come to my palace. I will tell them that they are thieves, Nigerians know them, and youths should not allow politicians to use them.

What is your advice to government on Lagos?

They should give us a special status. Education should be given to all,   and I mean, sound, qualitative education. They should provide good security and good healthcare. I will always be grateful to Jim Ovia and Zenith Bank. First Bank was the one that first gave us money, N50 million, when I introduced the project to them. I mean the Island Maternity Hospital.

Then Jim called me and said he will provide everything needed for the hospital including equipment. He spent over N400 million.

Your view on Nigeria?

The major problem of Nigeria today is former President Olusegun Obasanjo. When he was in government, he was running after Lagos while someone was cornering all the blue-chip companies that belong to the country. He cannot win election in his ward in Abeokuta. He ignored all Supreme Court judgements which were in favour of Lagos State.

He told me that 'Tinubu is stubborn, each time he goes to court even if he wins, I will make the condition of the court unenforceable'. I told him, it is true Bola Ahmed Tinubu is stubborn but his stubbornness is based on popular support. Tinubu is a good man and an achiever, but stubborn to a fault; if I tell him he's stubborn, he will say he is taking after me.

How do you relax?

I relax with my grandchildren, for example, I was at the boat club with my grandchildren the other day. I play with them a lot.

NTA Gives Reasons They Could Not Air Atiku’s AUN Programme live; Despite Receiving Payment

Posted: 26 Nov 2018 02:28 AM PST

Nigerian Television Authority, NTA

The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on Sunday admitted that it received payment to air a live programme of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) but could not do so.

The state broadcaster, however, said its failure not to air the programme as agreed was due to technical issues and not political interference.

The AUN is owned by Atiku Abubakar, a major opposition presidential candidate, while the NTA as a station often does the bidding of any government in power at a time. Apart from being a government-owned and funded media, the NTA top management staffers are government appointees who hold office at the discretion of the government in power.

In Sunday's statement, the Director-General of the NTA, Yakubu Mohammed, said the station was "compelled to react to the misinformation from the Atiku Media Office, alleging that NTA deliberately and under instruction from the Presidency, refused to broadcast live, the 13th anniversary ceremony of the American University of Nigeria, Yola because of 'conspiracy at work from the NTA headquarters and working the script of the Federal government and President Muhammadu Buhari."

"This is not only far from the truth but very uncharitable," Mr Mohammed said.

The official said, "While it is true that NTA received payment for the live coverage, it is also true that the NTA mobilised and deployed its Outside Broadcast crew from Jos to Yola for the coverage.

"The crew from Jos got to the location in good time and carried out equipment test and as well uplink and downlink test which confirmed that the signals are in good condition. Few hours to the event DOMSAT (Domestic satellite station at NTA Headquarters) called to report of not receiving Signals. But the uplink was sending out adequate power while DOMSAT was not receiving the signal.

"All the uplink equipment are in good working conditions and the downlink equipment also in good working condition. The only factor is the satellite service provider, INTELSAT. DOMSAT had made similar report which the Head of SATCOM had sent a report to INTELSAT and we are awaiting the report. This is a new development and new challenge which we would look at critically and localize the fault and ensure it does not reoccur. It should however be noted that the NTA TRANSMITTED THE AUN EVENT SOON AFTER IT OVERCAME THE TECHNICAL GLITCH IT EXPERIENCED."

Mr Mohammed said the television station was not being dictated to by the presidency.

"NTA wishes to inform Nigerians that it has never been dictated to by the presidency in the course of discharging its responsibility since the current management came on board.

"The NTA also wishes to appeal to politicians to please leave it out of politics. NTA is a public broadcaster that belongs to all and will discharge its mandate according to the law establishing it," he said.

Mr Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party is expected to be the main challenger to President Muhammadu Buhari in next year's presidential election.
