Movie: "Coming to America" Eddie Murphy

Prince Akeem', played by Eddie Murphy is returning to America to find his long-lost son, the heir to the throne of the fictional African nation Zamunda, in the sequel of the 1988 classic, "Coming to America".

Murphy confirmed that a new team has been put in place to produce the movie in a statement released on Friday, January 11, 2019.

"After many years of anticipation, I'm thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward.

"We've assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite [Is My Name], and I'm looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen," Entertainment Weekly (EW), confirms the announcement by Murphy.

Actors, Arsenio Hall and James Earl Jones who plays King Jaffe Joffer, Akeem's father, are possibilities for a come-back. If they do, they will be reading from a script re-written by Kenya Barris, the creator of ABC's "Black-ish".

The pedigree of the team that has come together for the project promises a film that should make a good impression.

Barris, who takes up the reins from writers of the original, Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, is assured of a good outcome working with Craig Brewer.

"From Hustle and Flow to his work with Eddie on Dolemite Is My Name, he never fails to blow me away. He is a true auteur and we couldn't be more thrilled to have him on board," Barris says about Brewer in a report by EW on Friday.

There are whispers that the production of the "Coming to America" sequel will begin this year, which may mean an imminent visit to the cinema.

Shatta Wale: expensive whips garage

Posted: 13 Jan 2019 11:00 PM PST

Singer 'Shatta Wale'

Leisure is sitting on the hood of an expensive Range and looking on to two others for Shatta Wale who is captured in a compound filled with cars.

The singer shows off the vehicles -- two white Range Rover Sport and a red Land Rover on Saturday, January 12, 2019, via Instagram. In one picture, a joint cuddles tight to his lip.

In the photo it is clearly in the morning as the caption of his post reads, "Good morning God!!!"

Motorbikes are also not excluded from his interests. Shatta Wale's rasta image is not only obvious in his reggae sound, hanging out a powerbike has helped keep up a tough look.

Perhaps, he got one for a gift in December 2018, in a picture he also shared on IG.

Two months earlier, the dancehall singer released his "Reign" album. At the Fantasy Dome in Accra, where he launched the project, Shatta Wale made good use of the momentum during his performance to propose to his babymama Michy who said yes.

In 2019, the reggae musician will be having a nationwide tour of his "Reign" album in Ghana. He revealed this in a comment on Instagram.

R Kelly, protesters have called for the boycott of his music following many accusations of sex abuse

Posted: 13 Jan 2019 10:30 PM PST

In the Chicago hometown of R&B singer, R Kelly, protesters have called for the boycott of his music following many accusations of sex abuse that have been directed at him for so long.

R Kelly protesters 'Mute R Kelly'

Some artists including Lady Gaga, who has worked with Kelly in the past have apologized for the projects he partnered on. B2K, an American boy band that was active from 1998 to 2004, has reportedly disclosed that they won't be performing any of the songs he wrote for them.

Buzz Feed News published an article containing the list of songs that have been "tainted" by R Kelly because of the scandal on Saturday, January 12, 2019, and B2K's 'Bump Bump Bump' and 'Girlfriend' made part of the list.

Many of the reactions that have welcomed a recent documentary about R Kelly have been of disapproval. In a six-part feature "Surviving R. Kelly" that aired in the United States of America last week, the interviews with women claimed to have been assaulted by the singer are compiled.

The documentary has inspired a protest calling for a boycott of his music. Despite this, his lawyer Steve Greenberg has confirmed that R Kelly is doing well in his music.

"His millions of fans love him and they're listening to him," the attorney told reporters while responding the unpleasant rumours about his client.

One of the gossips about Kelly includes being part of a sex cult. A charge Steve Greenberg strongly denies on his behalf.

"The allegations aren't true because he never knowingly had sex with an underage woman, he never forced anyone to do anything, he never held anyone captive, he never abused anyone," the lawyer said in a report published by the Irish Independent on Sunday, January 13, 2019.

R Kelly's Spring Break Jam a doubt

The pressure from widespread protests against R Kelly has affected the possibility of performing at the Spring Break Jam earlier fixed to hold in April 2019.

According to ABC News, the singer is the headliner of the event meant to happen at the Exposition Building at the Illinois State Fairgrounds on the sixth day of the month. But the organizers' submission for a permit to hold the concert was denied.

This developed on Thursday, January 10, 2019, ABC confirms. The request to use the venue was reportedly denied due to security concerns. Greenberg's claim that his client is doing well might only be temporary.

Best to avoid dropping the ball

The brush-off with the facility managers is the hard consequence of a paedophile image gradually causing R Kelly to be sidelined.

Perhaps, a proof that one's craft no matter how much exciting experience it has brought, can easily become thrash when your image as an artist has been tarnished.

At R Kelly's residence at the Trump Towers in Chicago, the police have already made a visit in response to a report that two women were being held there against their will.

This happened on Friday morning according to the Daily Mail UK.

When interviewed by police officers, the women were confirmed to be in "good health and spirits" and are not being made to stay at the apartment without consent says a report by the Daily Mail. R Kelly has maintained innocence since the allegation accusing him of sexually abusing teenage girls but the world has failed to believe him.

His experience is a reason for artists, especially the ones with so much to lose, to be proactive about the image they project. This might mean holding themselves to a high moral standard.

As it appears in R Kelly's case, the world is not ready to forgive any flop. It is simply best to avoid dropping the ball.

2019: See How PDP Plans To Rig Presidential Election – APC

Posted: 13 Jan 2019 05:31 PM PST

Mr. Yekini Nabena, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has accused the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of hiring a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, as an 'election consultant' as part of last-minute strategy to win the forthcoming polls at all costs.

According to him, the PDP's plan is to use INEC officials who remain loyal to the former INEC Chairman and under his payroll to rig next month's presidential election.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Abuja, Nabena declined to disclose the name of the former INEC chairman.

He, however, challenged the PDP and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to deny the allegation.

The APC deputy spokesman equally charged relevant authorities to investigate the veracity of his allegation.

His words: "Following the exposure of the PDP's initial plot to use Russian hackers to compromise INEC servers, the PDP has now hired a former INEC Chairman as an election consultant. This INEC Chairman was notorious for rigging elections for the PDP over the years.

"The plan is to use INEC officials who remain loyal to the former INEC Chairman and under his payroll to compromise the system from within." Nabena said.

Fayose Speaks On Buhari-led APC Govt Plan To Arraign CJN Onnoghen

Posted: 13 Jan 2019 04:48 PM PST

Mr. Ayodele Fayose
Ayodele Fayose, the immediate past Governor of Ekiti State, has declared that President Muhammado Buhari and the ruling  All Progressives Congress (APC) are like the Biblical Saul that has been deserted by God.

He described the onslaught on the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen as "one last show of desperation by a rejected President."

Fayose said "Those the gods wish to destroy, they first make mad. This sinking government taking on the CJN is desperation taken too far. From Amina Zakari to the illegal plot to extend the Inspector General of Police (IGP) tenure and now assault on the CJN, it is obvious that God has departed from this government as He left the Biblical Saul."

Speaking through his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, the former governor said the speed with which the petition against the CJN was acted upon clearly exposed the sinister intention of the Presidency, asking, "how is it explainable for a petition to be written on January 7, received by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) on January 9 and charges made against the CJN on January 11?"

He said "Meanwhile, former Abia State Governor, Orji Kalu who was declared wanted by the court for jumping bail is everywhere campaigning for the President and APC. Why didn't the federal governor act swiftly in arresting Kalu like it acted on the petition against the CJN?"

Describing the move to remove the CJN as part of the Presidency's plot to rig the February general elections, Fayose said, "the latest onslaught on the CJN and by extension, the judiciary is a well orchestrated plot to get a judicial soft-landing for the impending rigging of the presidential election in particular and other elections in favour of the APC.

"They are not unaware that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) cannot try a sitting judge, but are only out to use the arraignment as a premise for asking Justice Onnoghen to step aside. In other words, they are not really interested in trying him, they only want him out and the moment he steps aside, nothing will be heard about the case again."

The former governor said President Buhari never wanted Justice Onnoghen as CJN, adding that, "He refused to send his nomination to the Senate despite recommendation by the National Judicial Council (NJC). If not for the circumstances that took the President abroad, Onnoghen wouldn't have become a substantive CJN.

"Therefore, moving against the CJN at this time is a clear sign of what to come if President Buhari is reelected and Nigerians must be resolute in their rejection of the President and his party on February 16."

The Senator, who is re-contesting his seat in the National Assembly, expressed his condolences in a statement issued on Saturday by his Media Aide, Dayo Joseph.

Justice Onnoghen: NBA Reacts To Planned CCT Arraignment Of Onnoghen, Attacks President Buhari

Posted: 13 Jan 2019 03:50 PM PST

Justice Walter Onnoghen
The Nigerian Bar Association has reacted to the charges filed by President Muhammadu Buhari's government against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.

The Federal Government will on Monday, January 14, 2019, arraign the CJN before the Justice Danladi Yakubu-led Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) in Abuja on charges of failures to declare his assets as required by law and for operating Bank Domiciliary Foreign Currency Accounts.

The charges against Justice Onnoghen were filed and served on him on Friday at his official residence in Abuja preparatory to his appearance at the tribunal.

Reacting, NBA in a statement signed by its General Secretary Jonathan Gudu Taidi described the move against Onnoghen as an assault, intimidation and desecration of the judiciary, which must stop.

The body questioned government's position to embark on this "anomalous course of charging the CJN before the CCT without first presenting whatever facts it purportedly has against His Lordship to the NJC"

The statement read in part: "Assault, Intimidation and Desecration of the Judiciary Must Stop

1. Nigerians have witnessed again the targeted assault of the judiciary by agents of the Federal Government of Nigeria ("FGN") epitomized by today's media trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honorable Mr Justice Walter S N Onnoghen, GCON ("CJN"). According to media reports which have now been validated by the Statement of the Code of Conduct Tribunal ("CCT") that was released today an application was "filed by the Code of Conduct Bureau to the CCT Chairman yesterday for the trial to commence against the Chief Justice of Nigeria on six count charges" and that the CCT "will commence the trial on Monday, 14th January 2019". The Nigerian Bar Association unequivocally condemns this assault, intimidation and desecration of the Judiciary by FGN agencies and demands that it be stopped immediately.

2. In Nganjiwa v Federal Republic of Nigeria (2017) LPELR-43391(CA), the Court of Appeal made it very clear that any misconduct attached to the office and functions of a judicial officer must first be reported to and handled by the National Judicial Council ("NJC") pursuant to the provisions of our laws. Only after the NJC has pronounced against such judicial officer can the prosecuting agencies of the Federal Government proceed against him. As the Court pointed out, these requirements of the law are anchored on the overriding principles of separation of powers between the executive, the judiciary and the legislature and on the need to preserve, promote and protect the independence of the judiciary. Our respective liberties and the rule of law are best protected and preserved if the judiciary remains independent and shielded from intimidation and assault by the other arms of the government.

3. In Nganjiwa v FRN (supra), the Court of Appeal made reference to Rule 3 of the Revised Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of February 2016 ("Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers")and held that the said Rule 3 "makes provision in relation to fidelity to the Constitution and the Law". The provisions in regard to assets declaration as they apply to all public officers including the CJN are contained in both the Constitution and the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act 1991, the enabling law that establishes both the Code of Conduct Bureau ("CCB") and the CCT. The fidelity which judicial officers therefore owe "to the Constitution and the Law" pursuant to Rule 3 of the Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers encompasses compliance with the provisions relating to assets declarations as contained in the Constitution and the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act. Any infraction in that regard by a judicial officer, as the Court of Appeal rightly held, constitutes a misconduct by the judicial officer and becomes the subject matter for discipline by the NJC as a condition precedent to any possible prosecution of the judicial officer by any of the FGN's prosecuting agencies.

4. Why has FGN decided to embark on this anomalous course of charging the CJN before the CCT without first presenting whatever facts it purportedly has against His Lordship to the NJC for its deliberation and determination? The Petition that triggered the CCB action was on its face received by the Bureau on 09 January 2019 and the Charge was promptly drafted and is dated the following day, 10 January 2019 – giving the CCB a record 24 hours for completion of its investigation and the drafting of the said Charge and ancillary processes! If one contemplates the fact that the CCT arraignment is scheduled to take place on 14 January 2019, we have in total a record number of 3 (three) working days between the receipt and processing of the petition, investigation, preparation of Charge and ancillary processes and the arraignment! Such unprecedented speed and efficiency in Nigeria's criminal justice administration! It is clear, given the rush with which this matter was conducted by the CCB, that the NJC was not privy to it and did not conduct its mandatorily required disciplinary processes prior to the filing of the Charge before the CCT.

5. We still wonder why the FGN choose to deviate from the laid down and explicit provisions of the law as expounded in Nganjiwa v FRN (supra). Could it be that it was misadvised? Or is this a naked show of power and force by agencies of the FGN? And why embark on the media trial of the CJN? This, unfortunately, is a predilection of the FGN's prosecuting agencies with the possible exception of the Federal Ministry of Justice. As the NBA pointed out in its International Anti-Corruption Day Statement that was issued on 09 December 2018 "media trial of persons charged with corrupt practices . . . amount to corruption itself. Indeed, those orchestrated media trials degrade and corrupt the justice administration system quite apart from the incalculable (but obviously intended) damage that it does to persons who may ultimately be discharged and acquitted. In point of fact, it is corrupt practice to use as license or hide under the cover of the fight against corruption to recklessly destroy the names, characters and reputations of persons who have not been found guilty of corrupt practices by competent courts and who may ultimately be pronounced innocent of such charges." These media trials must, alongside the on-going desecration and assault of the judiciary, cease forthwith."

CJN Onnoghen: Details Of South-South Governors’ Meeting Emerges

Posted: 13 Jan 2019 03:23 PM PST

South-South Governors
An emergency meeting of the governors of the states of the South South geopolitical zone, held at the Bayelsa State Governor's Lodge, Abuja on Sunday.

The meeting, called at the instance of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Henry Seriake Dickson, who is also Chairman of the South South Governors' Forum, was attended by the Governors of Cross River State, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States.

The meeting deliberated on the recent happenings at the Supreme Court, involving the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen and resolved that the action against him constitutes a setback to the gains of the nation's democratic experience of 20 years.

A communique the governors jointly signed reads: "We note that under Section 158(1) of the 1999 Constitution, the National Judicial Council, has ample powers to deal exhaustively with matters pertaining to allegations of misconduct and discipline of Judicial officers. Specifically, the NJC has the powers and clear procedures for investigating allegations, and recommending appropriate sanctions or disciplinary measures against judicial officials as a matter of first instance before any further steps.

"The judicial pronouncements in the cases of FGN Vs Justice Sylvester Ngwuta of the Supreme Court (January 9, 2018) and Justice Ngajinwa Vs FGN 2017 at the CCT have given validation to the express provisions of the constitution on this issue.

"We note that the attempt to drag the CJN to the CCT is also a grave and dangerous escalation of the assault on institutions of state including the National Assembly and the judiciary

"We believe that the President, Muhammadu Buhari has a constitutional responsibility and huge moral obligation to defend our democracy.

"Therefore, we consider this step, which is directly aimed at humiliating the nation's highest judicial officer and a prominent son of the region, as totally unacceptable as it is reflective of the South South story of endless marginalization and intimidation. The unceremonious removal of former Acting Director General of the Department of State Service, Mathew Seiyefa and his replacement is still very fresh.

"We note that the unfortunate action against the CJN further reinforces the perception that the Buhari administration has no regard for the sentiments of Nigerians, in particular the people of Niger Delta, and the rule of law

"It is a fact that this administration has a penchant for flagrant disobedience of and disregard for legitimate and valid court orders.

"We expect President Buhari to know that democracy cannot survive without respect for the constitution, strict adherence to the rule of law, and separation of powers as enshrined in the constitution.

"We strongly believe that the regrettable development at the Supreme Court at this critical time, when preparations for the general elections are wobbling (with serious concern about INEC and security agencies) is capable of causing avoidable anxiety, tension and possible breakdown of law and order in the country.

"We note further that the action undermines confidence not only in the judiciary but also the electoral process that has already commenced, in view of the pivotal role that the judiciary plays in the process of electoral adjudication.

"We affirm President Buhari should know that the continuous assault on critical institutions of state is a defining feature of a dictatorship, and that the President is obliged to live up to his word that he is a born-again democrat, as he assured Nigerians in 2015.

"Based on the foregoing, we hereby call on the President:
1) To condemn without any equivocation, this assault on the CJN and the judiciary especially coming after similar assaults on the National Assembly, to save the country from this embarrassment and global contempt.

2) We call on the CJN to ignore this so-called Court summon from the CCB and the provocative call for his resignation in some quarters.

"While we are not opposed to a genuine fight against corruption, such an action must always be anchored on the rule of law.

"We also decry the massive buildup of arms by APC leaders and members across the Niger Delta with the intent to cause mayhem and a general breakdown of law and order during the elections.

Dated this day January 13, 2019

Signed

The Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, Governor of Bayelsa State
HE Nyesom Wike, Governor of Rivers State
HE, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade, Governort of Cross River State"
HE Udom Emmanuel, Governor of Akwa Ibom State
