2019: Ortom Apologises To Benue People For Supporting Buhari

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 03:40 PM PST

Governor Samuel Ortom
Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue State,  has officially apologised to the people of Benue and Nigerians at large for his support to the election of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.

Governor Ortom tendered the apology while interacting with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, at the NKST Church in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area.

He stated that just like former President Olusegun Obasanjo had apologised to Nigerians, he was doing same because the President Buhari-led administration had not only lived up to expectation but was also condoning the atrocities of Fulani herdsmen across the country.

According to him, all complaints for the arrest and prosecution of leaders of Fulani groups that sponsored the killing of people in the state and destruction of property fell on deaf ears.

Governor Ortom stated that while his kinsmen the late Presidents Shehu Shagari and Umaru Yar'adua appointed several Tiv people ministers in their cabinets, President Buhari has appointed none in spite of the fact that the ethnic group which voted massively for him in 2015 is estimated to be the fourth largest in the country.

The Governor stated that the Buhari administration has brought more hardship on Nigerians and people of the state in different ways, pointing out that Nigerians cannot afford another four years of that kind ofleadership that would further plunge them into more crises.

He solicited support for his re-election and that of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as President as well as all other candidates of the People's Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming general elections, stressing that under Atiku, Nigeria would be better.

Governor Ortom, while speaking with traditional rulers in the area, had appealed that they should support the PDP Benue North West Senatorial Candidate, Mr Orker Jev, who is a member of the House of Representatives, to replace their son, Senator George Akume, insisting that the former was more effective at the National Assembly.

Lagbaja has a message for the leaders of Nigeria

Lagbaja wants the leaders of Nigeria to know that it's citizens are mentally and emotionally weak

Lagbaja says the citizens of Nigeria are mentally and emotionally weak
Lagbaja wants all the leaders of Nigeria to know that the people they govern are mentally and emotionally weak.

The veteran masked singer made this known on his Instagram page on Friday, January 18, 2019. In the post, he wondered how what will happen to a country filled with mentally and emotionally weal people if it was faced with war.

"Tell your leaders, somebody should help me translate this to Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, and others, I'd repost," he captioned the post.

Funny how Lagbaja thinks the people of Nigeria are mentally and emotionally weak while Eedris Abudlkareem thinks it is the president that is mentally and physically weak to rule the country.

It's election season in Nigeria and it is only normal for people to come out to speak out about their different views. And our celebrities aren't left out as they have both subliminally and directly expressed.

These are the 6 things Emeka Ike thinks of Nigeria movie industry

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 06:07 AM PST

Emeka Ike
With over 100 movies to his credit, Emeka Ike has revealed some of his thoughts about Nollywood.
In an interview with Punch published in January 2019, the actor touched on his sincere thoughts about the fast-growing Nigerian movie industry.

Here are the six things Emeka Ike thinks of the Nigerian movie industry.

1. State of Nollywood

The 'Stigma' actor bared his mind on the state of Nollywood saying, "The industry is no longer what it used to be. Producers don't make (as much) movies anymore; the issue of being poorly paid is out of it. I haven't made movies in over six years. However, last year, I was begged to go to a location for a movie which is all over the Internet now."

2. The new wave

On the new wave in the industry, which includes the rise of cable television, Emeka said, "Cable television has taken over everywhere and the producers and marketers that used to be popular then are no longer famous because nobody is buying their CDs."

3. Unstructured system

The 'Deceptive Hearts' actor feels the home video system was not properly structured before its fall. The era which heralded Emeka's emergence as one of Nigeria's top actors is believed to have lost its fame due to poor structure.

"The home video system was not properly structured; so, people started buying decoders. The level of politics in the home video sector was so high and our economic value became affected because initially, we got paid from the funds got from the sales of movies. As an actor, you can determine the fees you will charge for a movie. When cable television was introduced, it drastically reduced the sales of movies because some of those movies were already being aired on TV. It is not a personality thing but the lack of structures in the industry. And see where it has brought us."

4. Tired but hope is not lost

Though Emeka is not so keen about discussing how the movie industry can reach a greater height, he feels all hope is not lost.

He said, "I realised that whenever I tried to speak with people on how we could lift Nollywood higher, they didn't do anything. Some of them are not even informed about what is going on in the industry. Now, it just seems like I am a noise maker but I keep praying that God helps us in 2019."

5. Relevance in the industry

On his relevance in the movie industry, Emeka Ike believes not appearing in many films is not peculiar to him saying, "It is not just about me; it is about all the actors in my set. You don't see Jim Iyke, Ramsey Nouah, Genevieve Nnaji, and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde as often in movies anymore as you used to. So, it is not about me alone. It is the new trend that came about when cable television operators came on board."

6. Change in Nollywood is far

For Emeka Ike, he has stopped wishing for Nollywood because he feels the change is far.

"I have stopped wishing Nollywood anything because I see that change is far. Some years ago, you could hear me say Nollywood was dying, but you will never hear me say that now," he said.

"I'm surprised 'Fall' became more popular than 'IF' in the U.S - says Davido

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 06:00 AM PST

The singer has expressed his surprise at the success of his 2017 single, 'Fall' on the US charts, while confirming a new album in 2019.

"I'm surprised 'Fall' became more popular than 'IF' in the U.S - says Davido
Davido has stated that he is surprised that his song, 'Fall' became more popular in the US than 'If', which was his major single for 2017 and won him a number of awards.

'Fall' had climbed to the number one position on Most Shazamed song in the New York, US and featured on the Billboard most listened to RnB songs in the US for 2018.

Talking to veteran journalist, DJ Abass on his Sky UK show, 'For The Record with DJ Abass', Davido, who is in London ahead of his upcoming concert at the O2 Arena on January 27, 2019, discussed a range of issues including the success of 'Fall' on the US charts.

''If' is cool, but the thing about it is there are a lot of Spanish people in the US, and 'Fall' is very easy to sing, it's like a lullaby.''

On if he anticipated that, he replied, ''No, I have always wondered why is it 'Fall'? out of every song, Fall is not even the song I wanted people to know before, but in America, they play it on the radio every 20 minutes and then it is just moving up quickly, The Billboard top RnB song, number 25 and it's moving up.''

Reflecting on the past year and if his plans for 2019 includes the release of a new album, the DMW boss who has only one studio album to his discography and had initially announced that he will be releasing a new project last year stated,

'I always tell people this, since 2016, how many songs have I dropped? I always drop series of songs, all those songs, if you count it now, it's already one album.

So I have given you guys materials, just that I haven't compiled it in one body of work, but I think this year I want to compile a couple of songs and drop an album.

Davido is aiming at repeating a feat achieved by Wizkid last year when he sold out the 20,000 capacity O2 Arena at his AfroRepublik concert.

The concert will feature Davido alongside members of his DMW label including Mayorkun, Dremo, Peruzzi, Idowest and DJ Ecool.

Kemi Adetiba on transactional sex matter
Kemi Adetiba has backed the rapper by kicking against transactional sex.

Backing Falz on his take against transactional sex, Adetiba noted that she will neither support any male or female who engage in transactional sex.

On her IG Instastory as captured by Legit News on Friday, January 18, 2019, the 'King Of Boys' director regarded transactional sex as something she would neither indulge in nor have anyone she knows engaging in the act.

The filmmaker went a step further to say a 'transactor' and the 'transactee' will have none of her respect if she finds them to be culpable of such act.

"Does a "Transactor" need my respect... No. Does a "transactee" require my respect... No.

"And will I give my respect to either of them... Quadruple No!!!"

Everybody loves a hero

Kemi Adetiba further stamped her support for Falz by praising his creativity.

"There has to be a higher, deeper word than PROUD!!! Keep doing your thing and putting your creativity on the line to share stories that will push us as a nation forward," the movie director shared in a post.

A day before dropping the album, Falz famously announced to the audience at an album listening session that he detests transactional sex and will continue to echo it in his songs.

2019 Elections: Details of Atiku’s Meeting With US Congressmen Emerges

Posted: 19 Jan 2019 01:37 AM PST

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has disclosed the details of his meeting with members of the United States Congress.

Speaking in an interview with Voice of America in Washington DC, Atiku said the meeting was centered on political developments in Nigeria with focus on how Nigeria would strengthen its relationship with the US, if elected president next month, Daily Post reports.

He said: "I told you before that my coming to the United State is in the hands of Americans if they decided to issue a Visa to me I will definitely come and if they refused to give me I cannot come. And now they have issued it to me and I am here.

"I'm having some positive discussions with some of the officials. I was in the Congress and I had discussions with some high ranking Congress men and Women about Nigeria and how Nigeria intends to improve her relationship with the United States of America."

Atiku also revealed he enjoys the support of the United States Government going into the 2019 General Elections.

Asked if top officials of the United State were in support of his presidential candidacy, the Wazirin Adamawa replied: "Yes, there is no doubt because the United State is ready to support any country that is practicing democracy."

He added that critics who claimed he could not enter the US because of a purported money laundering allegation hanging on his neck were misinformed.

"The whole thing (criticism) is about misinformation because for a very long time they have been lying to them (Nigerians) and they agreed; I tried to explain to them but they refused to listen. And I hope now people are going to understand," Atiku said.
