Adekunle Gold and Simi may be set to release a joint album

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 09:30 PM PST

Adekunle Gold and Simi

There have been rumours of a Simi and Adekunle Gold collab album for a while now and it seems like those rumours might just become true this year.

Newly weds, Adekunle Gold and Simi who got married at a private wedding earlier this month and have worked together on a number of singles off their individual projects may be combining forces once again on a musical offering, but this time, a full body of work.

This was hinted by talent manager Bizzle Osikoya in a cryptic post on his Twitter page, on Wednesday, January 16, 2019.

In the post, he shared an image that jointly credited both artists on a pre-order project not fully revealed with the caption, ''Joint album coming through there.''

Even though this has been bandied across social media for a while, this has to be the closest we've ever been to realistically getting one.

With Simi's 'Simisola' released in 2017 earning both commercial and critical acclaim, and Adekunle Gold's 2018 sophomore album, 'About 30', also showcasing his growth over the years, there is little doubt that a joint album will deliver memorable vocal masterpieces with a ton of love ballads. We just can't wait.

SENATE: See What Saraki Told Collegues About Buhari Govt, CJN Onnoghen, 2019 Election During Senate Resumption

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 06:05 PM PST

Dr. Bukola Saraki, Nigeria's Senate President
Dr. Bukola Saraki, Nigeria's Senate President, has advised the President Muhammadu Buhari government to respect other arms of government.

He said separation of powers must be honoured as spelt out in the constitution.

Saraki also warned that any onslaught against the judiciary will be rejected.

He said this while reference to the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen.

Saraki also called for a peaceful general elections which are scheduled to begin on February 16, Daily Post reports.

Read his full speech below:

"Distinguished colleagues, it is an honour to welcome you all back after the festive break. I wish each and every one of you, and your families, a very happy new year 2019. Although the political season has swung into full gear, it is my hope that you were able to get a bit of rest and some quiet time during the break; and that you have recharged your batteries, ready to dive back into legislative work with renewed vigour.

"As evident all around us, the New Year has met our countrymen and women in an anticipatory mood. Spirits are high, because in this year 2019, Nigeria has a date with destiny. But we also know that despite all of this, the work of leadership must go on; governance must not suffer. We must trudge on and fulfil our mandates as legislators subject to the Nigerian Constitution and the will of the people.

"As we hit this home run, therefore, my distinguished colleagues, we must have our eyes firmly fixed on the unfinished business of the 8th Senate; and that is to bring the legislative agenda to a fitting close and cap our endeavours of these four years with success. We cannot relent or lose steam on this last lap; we must remain focused and finish strong.

"This is an epoch making Senate that had, by the end of 2018, passed an unprecedented 257 bills, many of which are groundbreaking enough to change the game to meet the needs of Nigerians, with the potential to radically transform their lives for the better. Nigerians expect us to continue in this vein, and we owe it to ourselves to meet their expectations. The legacy of the 8th Senate will be written in the legislative footprints that we leave, and the foundation that we lay.

"Therefore, we must ensure that we continue to address issues affecting Nigerians, and concerning which they seek our intervention. Issues such as Unemployment, lack of economic opportunities, insecurity and so on – these still require the attention of the National Assembly. Every action that we can take to address these issues through the legislative function, we must take; everything that we can do, we must do. We must ensure that we conclude work on all outstanding bills and petitions; and bring successful conclusion to all issues and investigations brought to the attention of this Senate.

"The 2019 Elections are just over a month away, and the expectations of Nigerians as the dates draw near, is that we continue to serve as the representatives they voted for. In our work in this chamber, we are expected to rise about the partisan paradigm. We should address our minds to, and always channel our efforts to how we can move our country forward. Nigerians want to see leaders who will not succumb to the partisan instinct in lawmaking. They want to see leaders who will bring new ideas to bear on the challenges confronting the country.

"Leaders should help reduce the tension in the polity by contributing to an atmosphere of moderate and measured political conversations. Expectations of the Executive are also palpable, particularly with regard to the need to uphold the Constitution and its tenets, especially as they guarantee the minimum basic requirement of Separation of Powers; the unity of the country and the welfare of the citizens.

"On that note, I wish to lay emphasis on the role of the Judiciary in promoting justice and bringing respect to the country. If the Judiciary is violated or eroded or otherwise brought to ill repute, so do the values attached to its role in a democracy. Everyone in the political value chain should therefore do nothing that could raise tensions in the country. Nigerians are looking up to leaders who will douse flames that have the potential to threaten the peace and wellbeing of our country.

"I urge you, my distinguished colleagues, to bear all this in mind as we move towards the end of this historic Senate. The integrity of the constitution must be preserved at all times; and service to the people in a unified country should be our ultimate goal in all that we do as legislators.

"Looking ahead to the General Elections, I wish all contestants and aspirants luck in the forthcoming elections, including those here among us. I enjoin us all to bear in mind that it should be a contest of ideas. We should eschew ad hominem approaches to political discourse, and communicate our ideas in a civil manner.

"Everything must be done and every sacrifice must be made to ensure free and fair 2019 Elections. INEC is encouraged to engage the parties and be transparent in its decision making. It is important that the people are assured of the Commission's resolve and commitment to credible elections.

"To all Nigerians, I say this: we must have a country after the elections. We all still have to live among ourselves when the polls have closed and the elections are over. The rhetoric leading up to the elections must therefore be mindful of the need for moderation, decorum and respect.

"To those of us who are contesting, let us remember that our biggest offer is to serve. Ultimately, the Nigerian people have a right to choose who will represent them at all levels. It is not a do or die affair. I encourage all to participate in the coming polls and I wish Nigerians a safe 2019 Election.

"Once again, I bid you all welcome back, as we resume plenary today. The work must go on, and I am confident that we are ready.

"I wish the entire members of the Senate, and all Nigerians, a healthy, safe and prosperous 2019."

EXCLUSIVE: Osinbajo On Collision Course With Amaechi Over Onnoghen

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 05:55 PM PST

Professor Yemi Osinbajo
Professor Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President  is unrelenting in his opposition to the arraignment of  Justice Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) for alleged fraudulent asset declaration, SaharaReporters has been told.

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) had filed a six-count charge bordering on fraudulent declaration of assets against the CJN at the CCT, after receiving a petition from Dennis Aghanya, Executive Secretary of the Anti-corruption Research Data-Based Initiative (ARDBI).

But SaharaReporters subsequently unveiled Aghanya as a staunch fan of President Muhammadu Buhari and his allies, after which it later emerged that Rotimi Amaechi, Minister of Transport, is the ringleader of the President's allies pulling the strings of Onnoghen's arraignment from the background.

SaharaReporters understands that while Amaechi and his allies — including Okoi Obono-Obla, Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery Public Property (SPIP) — remain bent on removing Onnoghen from office by any possible means, Osinbajo has continued to maintain that the CCT option is not in line with due legal process.

According to a highly placed source in the All Progressives Congress (APC) who is very familiar with the matter, Osinbajo is insisting that while the CJN may have questions to answer, due process must be clearly and transparently followed.

"There are strong claims implicating the CJN on several fronts, including breach of extant laws bordering on corruption and conspiracies. This was the basis of the need to prosecute the CJN," said the source.

"But the VP denounced the plan to arraign the CJN before the tribunal immediately he got wind of it, insisting that due process had to be followed strictly, especially in dealing with such an important personality in the judiciary.

"The VP specifically warned against the arraignment at the CCT and the current manner in which the case is being pursued. While he acknowledged the strong case against the CJN, the VP firmly noted that there should be a diligent approach that is in line with due process."

The source added that Osinbajo seemed to have had his way initially, however Amaechi went behind to draft a few security officials into the plot to arraign the CJN at the tribunal.

"Even the Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami was kept in the dark until very late in the day regarding the arraignment at the tribunal," he said.

Onnoghen was absent as his arraignment before Honourable Danladi Umar of the CCT kicked off on Monday as Amaechi wanted. However, it was adjourned to Tuesday January 22 after Onnoghen — represented by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), plus 41 other SANS and more than 40 other lawyers — successfully argued that he was not properly served.

A Federal High Court in Abuja subsequently halted the arraignment and trial of the CJN), Justice N. E. Maha ordering the parties to maintain status quo until January 17, and that the defendants should be served with all the papers filed and they should appear in court at the next hearing.

CJN Onnoghen: EFCC Gives Invitation To Fani-Kayode, Odumakin

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 05:37 PM PST

Chief Femi Fani-Kayode and EFCC
Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, former Aviation Minister,  has been invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the claim that the commission invaded the home of embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

The commission also invited a chieftain of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin.

The EFCC spokesperson, Tony Orilade, revealed this at a conference of Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) in Abuja, Daily Post reports.

EFCC said if both men failed to disclose useful information, they may not be released on time.

Fani-Kayode had tweeted, "Why have the EFCC surrounded the home of CJN Onnoghen and why are they seeking to arrest him?

"These people want Nigeria to burn! Buhari call off your dogs before it is too late! This is a democracy and not a gestapo state! In the name of God let this madness stop."

On his part, Odumakin uploaded a short video broadcast on social media, alleging a raid on the residence of Onnoghen.

The EFCC had said it "never went to the house of the CJN for arrest neither was invitation extended to him."

Reacting to the development in a statement on Wednesday, Fani-Kayode expressed regret over the information he shared. The ex-minister said he has deleted the post from his social media.

He said: "Yesterday I was informed by usually reliable sources that EFCC were positioned outside CJN's home.

"I have since discovered that the men were not from EFCC and I removed the posting. The error is regretted."

Fani-Kayode asked the federal government to "tell us which agency sent those men and why they beat a retreat."

Onnoghen, who has been charged with alleged false asset declaration, has also denied that EFCC operatives visited his residence.

CUPP called on Nigerians to "reject Buhari when they still have the power to avoid painful regret".

2019 PRESIDENCY: APC vs PDP: Why Nigerians Should Choose Me Over Atiku – Buhari

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 04:58 PM PST

President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday appealed to Nigerians to re-elect him in the Feb. 16, Presidential Poll so he can continue with the good work he started in 2015.

Buhari, who made the plea in Lokoja while addressing a rally of party faithful and supporters, said all other candidates of the All Progressives Party (APC) should be voted for during the general election.

NAN quoted him as warning the electorate against voting for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying that the country should not be returned to the ugly past.

Atiku Abubakar is the PDP presidential candidate.

Buhari reminded them of the situation in the country in 2015 when he took over, saying that the PDP wanted to return to power to entrench corruption in the system.

The President said he had been able to fix roads, power, economy, Ajaokuta Steel Complex and other sectors, promising to secure the country against insurgency, banditry and other violent crimes.

He also promised to sustain and improve upon the achievements recorded in the power, road, education, health, economic and other sectors.

BREAKING: Former Akwa Ibom Speaker, President Buhari’s Strategic Campaign Coordinator Defects To PDP

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 04:41 PM PST

Engr. Ignatius Edet, a former speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and Chairman, Media Publicity and Image Making of President Muhammadu Buhari's campaign groups in the state, on Wednesday, decamped from APC to the PDP carrying about 5000 supporters with him to the party.

Edet disclosed this at the Uyo township stadium during the flag-off of Governor Udom Emmanuel's re-election campaign.

Speaking at the event, the former Speaker expressed joy for rejoining the PDP, a party he described as sensitive to the wishes and aspiration of members, Daily Post reports.

He explained that he left the APC because of high handedness of some party chieftains including a Senior aide to Buhari, Senator Ita Enang who with other chieftains, according to him hand-picked candidates of the party in the last primaries.

The ex-Speaker expressed disappointment and sadness with the manner at which the APC in the state was run and expressed confidence that the PDP which had been on ground in the state with sustainable structures would sweep the polls.

His words, "I'm happy to come back home. The things that made me to leave PDP are no more there.

"When I was in APC, some people tried to play God. They imposed candidates on us. Sen. Ita Enang thinks he's God. He tries to impose things on our people, but he has forgotten that There is only one God.

"I have the privilege of bringing over 5000 supporters of mine to support Udom Emmanuel in 2019"

Receiving the decampees, the State PDP chairman, Mr Paul Ekpo expressed pride in what he described as a homecoming by the former speaker and others.

He promised that the umbrella is large enough to accommodate everybody and added that the ex-speaker and other members would surely be accorded their pride of place.

JUST IN: CUPP Releases AGF’s Letter Directing Freezing Of CJN Onnoghen’s Accounts, Vows To Disclose More

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 04:19 PM PST

Justice Walter Onnoghen".
The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) says it has uncovered alleged plot by the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) govt to "harm" the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen".

Imo Ugochinyere, CUPP spokesman, stated this on Wednesday in a statement which contained a letter by the office of the Attorney General of the Federation, directing the freezing of Onnoghen's accounts.

The affected accounts are the same contained in a petition against the CJN by a group, the Anti-Corruption and Research Based Data Initiative (ARDI), Daily Post reports.

The group said in its petition, dated January 7, 2019, it became necessary, "bearing in mind the imminence of the 2019 General Elections and the overwhelming roles of the Judicial Arm both before and after".

ARDI said Onnoghen "is the owner of sundry accounts primarily funded through cash deposits made by himself up to as recently as 10th August 2016 which appear to have been run in a manner inconsistent with financial transparency and the code of conduct for public officials".

ARDI alleged that prior to 2016, Onnoghen appeared "to have suppressed or otherwise concealed the existence of these multiple domiciliary accounts owned by him, as well as the substantial cash balances in them".

Account balances listed against the CJN are as follows: The Standard Chartered Bank dollar account 1062650 with a balance of $391,401.28 on January 31, 2011;

The Standard Chartered Bank Euro account 5001062686 with a balance of EURO 49,971 .71 on January 31, 2011;

The Standard Chartered Bank pound sterling account 5001062679 with a balance of GBP23,409.66 on February 28, 2011;

"It is curious that these domiciliary accounts were not declared in one of the two CCB Forms filed by Justice Onnoghen on the same day, 14th December 2016," the group said.

But CUPP said the federal government was angry because Onnoghen "refused to compromise the composition of the post-2019 election Supreme Court Appeal Tribunal.

The coalition said: "Lobbying of all sorts by the APC chieftains to get the Chief Justice of Nigeria to accept to compromise the Presidential Election Appeal Tribunal and to compose the Governorship election Supreme Court Appeal Tribunal Rivers State, Akwa Ibom State, Delta State, Lagos state, Benue State, Imo State, Kwara State, Plateau state, Kaduna State, Abia State and Sokoto State with their preferred choices of justices did not succeed as the Chief Justice had remained faithful to his Oath of office and said by his actions that the Supreme Court was neither going to be partisan nor partial and would not consider such requests.

"The current ordeal of the Honourable Chief Justice will not end soon. He is up against people who are desperate and who do not care if the engine of state grinds to a halt. They have taken this dastardly attack to a new low by freezing all the family assets of the family of the CJN.

"We are in possession of the letter from the Attorney General of the Federation to this effect. This onslaught on the judiciary is as undemocratic as it is unconstitutional. This is capable of furtherderailing our democracy as such brazen violation of the Constitution is only tantamount to treason.

"With the happenings in the last 48 hours and the insistence of the Presidency to either get the CJN to comply or be removed from office, we hereby notify the nation that the life of the Honourable CJN, Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen as well as those of his family members is not safe.

"The situation will very quickly descend into compromising the security of the CJN. The APC govt views the resistance of the CJN to the plot to hijack the Supreme court as the only piece that has not been fixed in its grand design to rig and manipulate the 2019 general election for President Muhammadu Buhari and APC chieftains.

"Nigerians will be shocked by the contents of the letter directing the freezing of the accounts and assets of the CJN. We hereby attach it.

"We are also in possession of audio recordings of meetings of those behind the plot including call records which we will be releasing as we analyze them. It is still amazing how the Buhari led APC govt is continuing in this path of ignominy, opprobrium, reproach, and dishonour despite the widespread outrage by Nigerians across board. Their mind is made up. They believe nothing can stop them now."

CJN Onnoghen: See What EFCC Said They'll Do To Fani-Kayode, Odumakin Over Fake News

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 03:54 PM PST

EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said it will file a libel suit against Femi Fani-Kayode, Yinka Odumakin "and other purveyors of the evil news", over claims that the agency raided the house of Walter Onnoghen, the Chief Justice of Nigeria.

The agency was reacting to rumours on social media on Tuesday that Onnoghen was arrested, Daily Post reports.

Former Minister of Aviation, Fani-Kayode, had said the anti-graft agency laid siege on Onnoghen's residence.

On his Twitter page, he wrote: "Why have the EFCC surrounded the home of CJN Onnoghen and why are they seeking to arrest him?

"These people want Nigeria to burn! Buhari call off your dogs before it is too late!

"This is a democracy and not a gestapo state! In the name of God let this madness stop."

The Federal Government had, through the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), filed six counts of non-declaration of assets charges against Onnoghen.

However, ruling on two separate ex parte applications, Justice N.E Maha, ordered parties to maintain status quo until January 17.

EFCC's FULL STATEMENT

The attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to the falsehood which has been spreading on the social media that the EFCC has arrested the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen. This is not only a figment of the imagination of the purveyor of the fake news, but an evil machination by the creator and carriers of the news aimed at creating anarchy in the country.

For the record, the EFCC never went to the house of the CJN for arrest neither was invitation extended to him.

Several calls and short messages received all point to the fact that the brains behind the fake news had one thing in mind: to act as agent of destabilization. We would not give in to their plots.

One of the architect of the fake news, Femi Fani-Kayode, was quoted as saying "Why have the EFCC surrounded the home of CJN Onnoghen and why are they seeking to arrest him? These people want Nigeria to burn! Buhari call off your dogs before it is too late! This is a democracy and not a gestapo state! In the name of God let this madness stop". Another arrowhead of the fake news, Yinka Odumakin shared a non-existent video which has gone viral.

We want to assure Nigerians that while we would fight corruption in line with the mandate setting up the Commission, agents of darkness, in the likes of Femi Fani-Kayode, Yinka Odumakin and his cohorts, would never be able to manipulate the people against the Commission.

We also want to assure Fani-Kayode, Yinka Odumakin and other purveyors of the evil news to be ready to defend their actions in the court of law as the EFCC will file libel suit against them without further delay.

Atiku Discloses How Buhari’s Son-In-Law, Abdullahi Is Allegedly Looting For APC, Dares EFCC, ICPC

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 03:40 PM PST

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused President Muhammadu Buhari and his son-in-law, Mr. Junaid Abdullahi of allegedly engaging in corruption, economic sabotage and unethical conduct by using funds from fake contract awards to fund the president's re-election campaign to the tune of about N18bn.

In a statement on Tuesday, Atiku's Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu said the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled federal government has allegedly been using the Border Communities Development Agency (BDCA) headed by President Muhammadu Buhari's son-in-law, Mr. Abdullahi for hundreds of phony lawmakers' constituency projects, using non-existent firms to fund Buhari's electioneering campaign.

The statement was a reaction to a report published by Premium Times, detailing massive fraud in the border agency.

The Border Communities Development Agency (BDCA) has the mandate to provide social and infrastructural amenities to international border communities in 21 states of the federation, spanning over 105 local government areas.

Atiku said no fewer than 815 contractors were recently shortlisted by the BDCA for hundreds of constituency projects ranging from N10million to 200million worth of contracts despite failing to meet federal contracting requirements.

He said in apparent move to amass funds for Buhari's re-election bid, the BDCA procurement officials have continuously disregarded some key criteria for selection of prospective contractors, as well as some requirements for the award of contracts, in a potential violation of the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2007.

Atiku said, "Arcad Projects Limited (Lot 110) prequalified to bid for the N200 million contract for the rehabilitation of selected rural roads in Ekiti/Irepodun/Idi/Oke-Ero Federal Constituency was not qualified. The company's bid was accompanied with its PENCOM certificate only without the requisite tax clearance document.

"SMV Nigeria Limited and Young Stallion Group Nigeria Limited (Lot 83) submitted bids for the N150 million contract for the construction of a mini-stadium at Kashere in Gombe Central Senatorial District, but both were shortlisted despite not meeting the requirements on tax clearance certificates.

"Aicon Residential Limited (Lot 84) also submitted a bid for the N150 million contract for the rehabilitation/maintenance of water infrastructure in Yobe East Senatorial District without submitting its tax clearance certificate.

"ABG Synergy Limited was prequalified for the N50 million contract to supply tricycles, popularly called "Keke NAPEP" in Monguno/Marte/Nganzi Federal Constituency of Borno State despite not attaching any of the two vital documents to its bid.

"Budmusdru Hill Nigeria Limited and Khamz Intercontinental Limited (Lot 386) shortlisted for a N100 million contract to train youth and community leaders in Niger North Senatorial District also did not meet the requirements.

"De Poor Shall Rich Nigeria Limited and Dankole Global Services (Lot 281) were shortlisted to bid for the N60 million contract to supply motorcycles in Edo Central Senatorial District without their tax clearance certificates.

"Yalele Farms Limited (Lot 315) was shortlisted for the N60 million Strategic Empowerment and Training of Women and Youth in Zaki Federal Constituency with absolutely no requisite documentation," the statement said.

Atiku insisted that section 23 (1) of the PPA (2007) does not allow federal agencies or their management to manipulate procurement guidelines to favour any party during a contracting process.

Kaduna APC leaders assure Buhari of over 90% votes

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 08:52 AM PST

Muhammadu Buhari
Yusuf Bala, the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, says the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District will give President Muhammadu Buhari over 90 per cent of their votes in the forthcoming presidential election.

Bala disclosed this after a delegation of All Progressives Congress (APC) had a closed-door meeting with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday.

He said that the delegation felicitated with the Federal Government and acknowledged the work it had done for the nation in the last three and a half years.

"Particularly as it affects the poor people who are 80 per cent voter-based and to assure the vice president that because of the much work that has been done; the next election is as good as delivered.

"We are here to say that by over 90 per cent, we will deliver the president and vice president in the next election as well as the governor and his deputy among others including myself the senatorial candidate for the zone.''

The deputy governor said that Osinbajo had warmed himself into the hearts of many Nigerians through various grassroots programmes he championed.

The Southern Kaduna APC Senatorial candidate added that part of the reason for the visit was also to invite the vice president to the zone.

"We have also come to request kindly to be part of these efforts; he has endeared himself to Nigerians through so many programmes that have led him through the poor people of this country; the creeks; the roads; the markets; the farmers and so on.

"So I want him to come to the zone to flag off our door to door campaign and hopefully carry out one of these programmes within the zone,'' he said.

A notable member of the delegation was Dr Hadiza Balarabe, the running mate to Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna in the forthcoming governorship election.

Others were members of the state assembly and party leaders and candidates for various elective positions.

‘Lagos better under APC leadership’

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 02:33 PM PST

All  Progressive Congress
The Lagos State House of Assembly candidate for Alimosho Constituency 02, Kehinde Joseph has said Lagosians will not regret voting the party in the coming elections.

Addressing reporters at the flag off the campaign of the Alimosho Federal Constituency of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) said Lagos witnessed remarkable development under the APC led administration.

He noted that APC is a winning team which a coach would not tamper with. According to him, Lagosians are savouring the dividend of democracy under the APC.

He added that all the APC candidates contesting for the various positions had what it takes to deliver on campaign promises.

"We have our Senator Adeola Olamilekan, Hon. Oluwafemi Adebanjo and Hon. Bisi Yusuf present at this flag off the campaign. These are tested party men and have a passion to render service to the people.

"We are talking about continuity, the next level and that is the reason we are here. As you can see there is no problem and nobody is fighting. All members are happy to see us here for the purpose of the election."

He maintained that the zeal to serve was borne out of the desire to ensure the people of the constituency have access to a better life.

"I am propelled to contest because I want to serve, this is where I grew, I understand the place very well and would probably say this is my life. Since I have this connection with the people, I should be able to make an impact in the lives of the people.

"This is my community and primary constituency; therefore it is their betterment that I seek. I have a name to protect and integrity to maintain. These are parts of the motivation. It is equally part of an effort to continue to develop Lagos State that is why we are shouting continuity in Lagos State."

Joseph described the fracas at the APC Ikeja GRA rally as unfortunate, noting the adequate security have been put in place to forestall future occurrence.

"What happened has nothing to do with our party, they do not have a link. It was simply the problem of the union who were trying to settle scores. The APC is a party of peace and harmony that is what we have been preaching.

"He could see from what has been on after the incident. You could feel it when Prof. Osinbajo was going from house to house campaign, the security was relaxed, there was no threat to life and the campaign move on smoothly.

"The people have always voted APC and that is what we expect them to do. The APC Alimosho has promised to deliver 500,000 votes, we are not relenting on the promise made and we are determined to deliver on what we promised. It is only APC that exist in Alimosho other parties do exist," he said.

2019: Kano CP guarantee residents of maximum security

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 08:46 AM PST

Rabiu Yusuf
The Kano state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rabi'u Yusuf has assured residents of the state that adequate securities have been put in place to guaranteed their safety before, during and after the forthcoming general elections.

Yusuf also urged the non-indigenes not to relocate to their states but remain and exercise their franchise without fear.

He gave the assurance when the state's Election Peace Committee, led by its chairman Professor Ibrahim H. Umar, paid him a courtesy visit at the police headquarters.

The Nation reports that the committee visited the commissioner to seek his support in its quest for the peaceful conduct of 2019 general elections in the state.

The committee identified Kano as one of the most volatile states in the country during political activities given its cosmopolitan nature, hence the need for police support to guarantee the safety of lives and properties during the electioneering period.

Yusuf assured the committee that necessary measures had already been taken to ensure the success of the elections.

"We have already conducted security threat analysis in the state in which we were able to identify some flash points that may likely pose security threat during the electioneering period and necessary action has been taken against the areas.''

On the recent violence experienced in Rano, Bichi and Dawakin Tofa, where two persons were reportedly killed during a political rally, the commissioner said some arrests had been made, while the investigation was still in progress.

Earlier, Co-chair of the committee and the Catholic Bishop of Kano Diocese, Rt. Rev. Dr John Namaza Niriying, commended the commissioner of police for the relative peace in the state, urging him to maintain the tempo throughout the election period and beyond.

"We implore you to maintain your neutral status as a security agency, as emphasized by President Muhammadu Buhari at the inauguration of his campaign council so that your prestige and integrity would continue to be preserved and upheld in the eyes of the public.

"We also wish to request you to expedite action in bringing those responsible for the death of some people during political rallies at Rano, Bichi and recently at Dawakin Tofa, to book so that it will serve as deterrence to others"

Address alleged sale of unclaimed PVCs, Saraki tells INEC

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 08:08 AM PST

Bukola Saraki
Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on Wednesday, asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to quickly look into the claim that politicians are buying uncollected Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) for use during the February elections.

Saraki also urged the electoral umpire not to spare any sacrifice that would ensure the conduct of free, fair and credible elections.

The Senate President stated this in his welcome address to senators after their four-week Christmas and New Year break.

He underscored the need for restraint by those who wield power in taking actions that might be misconstrued as coloured by partisan considerations.

Saraki who insisted that the issue of PVCs remained a concern, said that INEC should rise to the occasion giving urgent attention to the matter especially when fresh claims have been raised about people buying PVCs.

He reiterated the need for INEC to bring relevant stakeholders together for a dialogue on a way forward to tackle the issues, ahead of the elections.

Those vying for elective positions, he said, should eschew do or die politics particularly when there will still be one Nigeria after the polls.

Saraki advised against the violation of the Judiciary warning that if the third arm of government was desecrated, it will erode the confidence of the people in the judiciary

He noted that the Senate in the last three and a half years in an unprecedented manner has passed 257 bills.

He said that indications all over the country showed that Nigerians were in an anticipatory mood "because this year 2019, Nigeria has a date with destiny."

Saraki said: "The issue of PVCs remains a concern. I call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to give urgent attention to the matter.  The issue has similarly been raised about people buying PVCs; this should also be looked into. Let me take this opportunity to reiterate the need for INEC to bring relevant stakeholders together for a dialogue on a way forward to tackle these issues, ahead of the elections.

"Everything must be done and every sacrifice must be made to ensure free and fair 2019 Elections. INEC is encouraged to engage the parties and be transparent in its decision making.

"It is important that the people are assured of the commission's resolve and commitment to credible elections.

"On that note, I wish to lay emphasis on the role of the Judiciary in promoting justice and bringing respect to the country.

"If the Judiciary is violated or eroded or otherwise brought to ill repute, so do the values attached to its role in a democracy.

"Everyone in the political value chain should, therefore, do nothing that could raise tensions in the country.

"Nigerians are looking up to leaders who will douse flames that have the potential to threaten the peace and wellbeing of our country.

"Leaders should help reduce the tension in the polity by contributing to an atmosphere of moderate and measured political conversations.

"Expectations of the Executive are also palpable, particularly with regard to the need to uphold the Constitution and its tenets, especially as they guarantee the minimum basic requirement of Separation of Powers; the unity of the country and the welfare of the citizens.

"In that respect, it bears reminding that the exercise of power must be anchored in the best democratic principles.

"The former US President Obama's Doctrine of Restraint as a key feature in the use of power is commended to us in this polity at this crucial time.

"Some of the reports and occurrences in recent times speak to this need for restraint. Those who exercise power should do their best to avoid any action that stands the risk of being misconstrued as coloured by partisan considerations."

On bills passed by the upper chamber, Saraki said: "This is an epoch-making Senate that had, by the end of 2018, passed an unprecedented 257 bills, many of which are groundbreaking enough to change the game to meet the needs of Nigerians, with the potential to radically transform their lives for the better.

"Nigerians expect us to continue in this vein, and we owe it to ourselves to meet their expectations.

"The legacy of the 8th Senate will be written in the legislative footprints that we leave, and the foundation that we lay.

"Therefore, we must ensure that we continue to address issues affecting Nigerians, and concerning which they seek our intervention.

"Issues such as unemployment, lack of economic opportunities, insecurity and so on – these still require the attention of the National Assembly.

"Every action that we can take to address these issues through the legislative function, we must take; everything that we can do, we must do. We must ensure that we conclude work on all outstanding bills and petitions, and bring a successful conclusion to all issues and investigations brought to the attention of this Senate.

He continued, "We must have a country after the elections. We all still have to live among ourselves when the polls have closed and the elections are over.

"The rhetoric leading up to the elections must, therefore, be mindful of the need for moderation, decorum and respect.

"To those of us who are contesting, let us remember that our biggest offer is to serve. Ultimately, the Nigerian people have a right to choose who will represent them at all levels. It is not a do or die affair.

"I encourage all to participate in the coming polls and I wish Nigerians a safe 2019 Election."

Ag. IGP decries absence of transparent leadership in police

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 08:05 AM PST

Mohammed Adamu
The Acting Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Mohammed Adamu has identified the absence of transparent, knowledgeable, accountable and motivational leadership as the problem of policing in Nigeria.

Adamu who disclosed this in Abuja after the baton of leadership was officially handed over to him by the immediate past IGP, Ibrahim Idris however said his appointment represents a charge to restore the image of the Force.

Before the ceremony, Idris and Adamu walked into the Conference room around 11:03 am. They were welcomed by the members of the police management team comprising seven Deputy Inspectors-General of Police and one Assistant Inspector General of Police, other senior police officers and well-wishers.

Idris who wore a cream colour caftan and black cap spoke before handing over to Adamu. He said: "We are here in the handing over ceremony. I have served in the Nigeria Police Force for 35 years. By the grace of God, I retired yesterday and this is going to be my final departure ceremony from the Police Force.

"I want to thank all the officers present here for the support you have given me and for all we have done together to make Nigeria Police Force great. We have tried our best during my time and during that period, you have given me maximum support. I want to thank everyone from the rank of the Constable to the highest rank of the Deputy Inspector General of Police.

"Let me thank all of you for your commitment and dedication to your country. Like I said, I am here to hand over the baton of leadership to my colleague and friend who is going to take over as the 20th IGP for the Federal Republic of Nigeria and I wish him all the best."

After the baton was handed over to Adamu, Idris was escorted out of the conference by the new Ag. IG, the DIGs, AIGs and other senior police officers.

He immediately returned with the seven DIGs and other senior officers to deliver his maiden address.

Speaking after the baton of leadership was officially handed over to him, Adamu said he was determined to combine his national and international policing exposure to bridge the missing link in the Force.

According to him: It is with total reverence of the Almighty Allah (SWT) and deep appreciation of President Muhammadu Buhari, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who considered me worthy of appointment that I humbly address you today as the 20th indigenous Inspector General of Police.

"My appointment represents a call to duty and a charge to restore the dwindling primacy of the Nigeria Police Force within the internal security architecture of our beloved country. Ladies and gentlemen, commanding the largest Police Force in Africa, particularly, at this crucial time that the country is faced with multi-faceted security challenges and at the peak of preparations for the general elections, is undoubtedly an arduous task.
"However, it remains a fact that the Force is blessed with some of the finest officers anywhere in the world that are not only intellectually gifted and exceptionally dedicated, but professionally sound enough to surmount these tasks if the right leadership is provided.

"Amongst you seated in this hall today are some of such thorough-bred and passionate professionals who can hold their own among their peers, and have consistently distinguished themselves in complex national and international engagements."

Commenting on what is lacking in the Force and his plans, he said: "All that you desire, from my experience, is a transparent, responsive, motivational, accountable, and knowledgeable leader who will not only treat you with the dignity you deserve in your line of duty, but who is sensitive to your welfare needs and fair in the manner your promotion and other reward regimes are addressed. The absence of this level of leadership has always been the missing link in policing in Nigeria.

"It is my firm conviction, therefore, that if the quality personnel potentials of the Force are blended with purposeful and motivational leadership at strategic levels within the organizational hierarchy of the Force, the lost glory of the Nigeria Police Force which remains a concern to governments at all levels, citizens, human rights groups, the international community and indeed well-meaning officers and men of the Force shall be restored.

"With my appointment and assumption of duty, I am determined to draw on my national and international policing leadership experience to bridge this missing link. I assure you on this day that I will provide the highest possible level of professional and responsible leadership for you while trusting that you shall march hand-in-hand with me as dependable professional colleagues, to advance the fortunes of the Force."

Adamu while stating that he would unveil his leadership strategies soon, also charged the personnel of the Force to shun conducts capable of denting the image of the Force.

"I demand that you henceforth resolve to abstain from conducts that will drag the Police into disrepute and put your career in jeopardy, and join me in the common course of changing the narratives of policing in the country for good. In giving effect to this, in the coming days, I shall unfold before you and the nation the strategic focus of my leadership."

The new police chief also said there will be the massive deployment of police personnel in the coming days as part of preparations for the forthcoming elections.

He also warned politicians to against activities capable of causing violence adding that the Force will not hesitate to deal decisively with anyone who poses threat.

"In the interim, let me use this opportunity, to quickly remind you that aside from our routine operations, we have within the short term, two major national assignments where our professionalism and commitment to duty will once again be subjected to national and international scrutiny.

"First, is the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly elections on 16th February 2019 and second, is the Governorship, State Assembly, and Federal Capital Territory Area Council Elections on Saturday 2nd March 2019. These national engagements are of immediate priority to my leadership and, hence, in the next few days, the nation shall witness concerted police deployments and other activities which will all be directed at ensuring quality election security service delivery by the Police, being the lead agency in election security management.

"While with your support, I am confident that we have the operational capacity to ensure the success of both exercises, I am not unaware of the possible security threats that some misguided political actors and their followers may attempt to pose during the general elections.

"To such elements, I must sound a note of warning that as a nation, we have had enough of electoral violence. Hence, while the Nigeria Police under my watch shall work with the Independent National Electoral Commission and sister security agencies in guaranteeing a peaceful and secure space for all political parties and the citizens to freely exercise their electoral rights, we shall not hesitate to identify, isolate and bring to deserved justice any person or group that attempts to threaten our sacred democratic order.

"To the unrepentant felons that may want to put our common will to test, the message is being relayed here loud and clear that in securing the law abiding citizens during the elections, we shall not hesitate to deploy our potent assets to deal firmly and decisively with electoral deviants. Consequently, I call on political actors to assist the Police and other law enforcement agencies in sustaining the gains recorded in our democratic journey. They should always remember that politics is a game guided by rules and it behoves them to play the game within the dictates of such rules. On our part, we assure the nation of our determination to play our roles fairly but firmly towards guaranteeing a peaceful electoral process and a credible outcome."

He also promised to deliver to members of the public, Police Force they would be proud of.

"Let me end this inaugural address by assuring the citizens that I am mindful of their yearnings for a policing system that will not only assure them of their safety but treat them with civility and hold their rights sacred. While I promise on behalf of officers of the Force that their deserved aspirations will be met henceforth, I also call on the citizens to work with the police in the interest of community safety and national security.

"I am similarly not oblivious of the concerns of the Federal Government on the Nigeria Police. I am mindful of the fact that President Muhammadu Buhari is desirous of bequeathing a citizen-friendly, operationally efficient and ethically-guided police system to the country. His Excellency envisions a Police Force that will take the lead in internal security operations, engage intelligence-led, technology-supported and community-driven policing principles in the attainment of its mandate, and play an active role with the Armed Forces in restoring civil authority in the North East.

"I assure the country that I will provide the requisite leadership for the Nigeria Police to meet these expectations and address the concerns."

Adamu while thanking the immediate past IG for his contributions to the Force in the last three years also urged personnel of the Force to support him in prayers and informed advice.

"Finally, on behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, l immensely thank our out-going IGP Ibrahim Idris for his professional service to our Fatherland and wish him a very fulfilling future engagement. I can assure him that much as he is leaving the police institution, we shall not allow him to leave the Police Family as we shall continue to disturb his retirement in order to draw from his rich fountain of professional knowledge.

"To you, my officers and men, I call on you to continue to support me with prayers and informed pieces of advice so that this journey we are commencing together today shalt lead us to the desired destination."

Back into the game like you never left.
So you took a long break after your last relationship did not work as you thought it would, but now you are ready to get back into the dating game.
So what next?

1. Look the part, maybe?

Knowing that you are not interested in a relationship could have influenced some of your lifestyle choices. Now that you are ready to have a go at this love thing again, you may want to consider paying a little more attention to your looks, your countenance, smile a little more and if you were closed off and not so friendly, now may be the time to switch it up.

2. Be more open-minded

Your friends could give your number to some single guys, one of whom could turn out to be an amazing, fantastic person.

Who knows? It could be the very thing you need! Just keep an open mind, good things come from unlikely sources sometimes!

3. Accept more invites

This is a way of saying; you need to go out more. As our article here already mentioned, the chance of your future boo coming to knock on your door and whisk you off into the sunset is pretty thin, so… go out there. Live the life, soak up some sunlight and allow yourself the opportunity to live and glow again… whether or not you do get a man.

Kwara APC gov candidate condemns ban on political rallies

Posted: 16 Jan 2019 07:47 AM PST

Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq

Kwara state All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has described the reported ban on political rallies and processions on the streets by the state government, as undemocratic.

Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed had on Wednesday this week banned political street rallies and processions in the state.

Governor Ahmed said "as an additional security measure, political street rallies and processions are hereby banned across the state.

Only political rallies in designated areas and with prior notification to the state police command will be allowed henceforth."

The governor's action was borne out of the weekend violent attacks on political rallies organized by major political parties in the state.

The APC governorship candidate added that the governor's pronouncement is an attempt to frustrate the party's campaigns in the state.

Mallam Abdulrazaq told reporters in Ilorin, the state capital while visiting the victims of the last Sunday reported attack on APC members by suspected Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) thugs in the state.

On the entourage of the governorship candidate were the Kwara central senatorial candidate of the APC, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe and other party stalwarts.

Said Abdulrazaq: "They have made all efforts to frustrate our campaigns. They started by attacking our rallies. You know that they have had so many rallies and there has not been violence in any of their rallies. But the moment we step out to the campaign they attack us.

We mount our billboards, they use the Kwara state Signage and Advertising Agency (KWASAA) to bring them down, yet they have not succeeded in silencing us. It means our message is resonating. It is not about APC candidates any more. It is a movement in Kwara now.

"Now they don't want us to get there but we will get there by the grace of God and stop all this nonsense going on in the state. The governor's statement is a case of someone hiding behind a finger. In a democracy how can you ban a rally?

"We are victims of their violence here. It must stop. I met with the police commissioner and he assured me that the police are up to the task of getting to the bottom of the violence. We must stop this.

"We have told the victims and our supporters not to retaliate. Our opponents don't have anything to lose. They want to discourage our supporters from going out to vote. They want to discourage them from going out to the campaign. No, we are going to campaign vigorously and our supporters will come out to vote en masse on the days of elections. The President is coming here next week and they cannot stop him from campaigning. They cannot also stop us from campaigning."

14-41-14… this is. Special day for me really .. 14 years of love .. 41 years of life and another reminder that 14 days after is perfect. Even I came 14 days late .. but it wasnt late at all.. it was perfect timing ..my mum was at the hospital to have me in the 31st of December.. 41 years later I gave my self a deadline of 31st December 2018 to finish work on the project with @tope_alabi_ .. I did EVERYTHING .. sleeping and average of less than 2 hrs a day … pouring in everything. .. pushing everyone on the music production to the max ( sorry guys) .. today on this 14th its all done .. I did my final tweeking .. I'm looking at the body of work and all I feel is gratitude. This is by far the most important album I've ever produced .. 17 songs .. gifted like fresh bread of heaven . We literally worked on each song in awe an wonder of His song and the depth of the beautiful @tope_alabi_ . This is God's present to me .. THE SPIRIT OF LIGHT .. out this week. #happybirthdaytome
