JAMB says dates for 2019 UTME and mock exam will soon be announced

Posted: 27 Feb 2019 11:00 PM PST

JAMB tells candidates to ignore the dates being circulated about the two examinations
Following the postponement of the 2019 UTME, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has said that the dates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and its mock exam would soon be announced.

JAMB in its bulletin asked the general public and candidates to ignore the dates being circulated about the two examinations.

The exam body also said that all arrangements to conduct the mock exam and the 2019 UTME have been concluded and also ask the candidates to wait for the new dates which will be announced soon.

The board further said that the mock exam was introduced in 2017 to avail candidates the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the conduct of the computerized test.

JAMB also maintains that the mock exam was designed to help candidates who are coming in contact with computer know the basics of computer-based tests and prevent any phobia that might arise.

The exam body therefore urged all UTME candidates to guard jealously all their documents pertaining to the UTME and Direct Entry examination.

Recall that the 2019 UTME was initially scheduled to start on Saturday, March 16, 2019 and end on Saturday, March 23, 2019, while the mock exam was slated for February 23, 2019, but had to be cancelled because the date coincided with the general elections.

Posted: 27 Feb 2019 10:00 PM PST

Daniella Okeke has a not so nice message for President Buhari and his supporters.
For the second time in less than 24 hours, Daniella Okeke has come for President Buhari and his supports after his victory in the just concluded election.

The actress who isn't really known to be a vocal celeb took to her Instagram page on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, where she made known her frustrations.

"I really don't understand how a reasonable person will vote Buhari ? I don't get it? And if u ask dem the only thing dey will say is, he is fighting corruption. Yet corruption in Nigeria has gone worse in the Last 4yrs... I guess datz why they removed the chief judge and replaced him with his person, so even if PDP go to court, they will still say APC won... Wat a Country NIGERIA WHICH WAY? #DANIELLAOKEKE," she wrote.

Something tells us Daniella Okeke can't even hide her feelings over the result of the general elections which saw President Buhari retain his seat.

Less than 24 hours after the Buhari was announced the winner of the presidential elections, Daniella Okeke had taken to her Instagram to lament about the outcome of the elections.

Daniella Okeke wants out, says she's done with Nigeria

Apparently, some people aren't impressed with some of the election results released so far in the general elections, and Daniella Okeke is one of them who also feels so, making her desire to leave the country. This might sound hilarious to some people while others might also take it seriously but the voluptuous actress made her frustrations and desires known via her Instagram page on Monday, February 25, 2019.

In her posts, she said she was fed up with the country and was ready to relocate to another nation. She even went on to openly appeal to any man with a foreign passport to come and marry her.

"I NEED A NEW CITIZENSHIP AM REALLY TIRED OF NIGERIA 💛💚 PLS WHO WILL MARRY ME? RED OR BLUE PASSPORT OR ANY OTHER COLOR BUT DEFINITELY NOT GREEN... 😡😡 AM UPSET.. #DANIELLAOKEKE," she captioned one of the photos.

Well, if you think you find Daniella Okeke attractive and most importantly reside outside the country, this would be the best time to slide into her DM and make your intentions known.

I Go Dye says President Buhari will be the last old recycled president to rule Nigeria
Still, on your favourite celebrities reacting to President Buhari's victory at the just concluded elections, I Go Dye says he would be the last old recycled president to rule Nigeria.

The comedian made this known on Wednesday, February 27, 2019, while congratulating the president on his victory at the presidential elections. In his post, he went on to advice the president to include the youths in the new administration.

"YOU WILL BE THE LAST OLD AGED RECYCLED PRESIDENT THAT WILL RULE NIGERIA. NATURE HAS GIVEN YOU ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO REBUILD NIGERIAN, A MEANS TO DISCOVER THE NEXT GENERATION LEADERS. Congratulations on your victory. Nature has given you another opportunity to rebuild Nigeria, a means to discover the next generation leaders.

"Please do find it a rare privilege to advance the course of youthful leadership, by looking for Nigerian youths all over the world that can add their creativity to advance your administration... you will be the last old aged president that will rule Nigeria, once again congratulations. Amb Francis Agoda," he wrote.

Hmmm...Even though this message looks like a shade to all the old politicians in the country, we think I Go Dye is only expressing his views just like other celebs who have had divergent views since President Buhari was announced winner of the presidential elections.

Visa and PayMate have announced an expanded collaboration to provide Visa's issuing financial institution clients in the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEMEA) region with access to PayMate's proprietary payment platform for their corporate customers' payments needs.

This move follows Visa and PayMate's initial launch in India in 2017. PayMate's cloud-based platform digitises the entire procurement-to-payment cycle for businesses and helps large enterprises and SMBs to transition from traditionally slow and costly forms of payments like cash and checks to real-time and efficient digital payments. The platform is built to help its business customers automate and manage vendor payments (Payables), customer payments (Receivables) and invoicing, thus improving process efficiency and providing greater transparency of cash flows.

Rakesh Khanna, Vice President, head of Visa Business Solutions, CEMEA Visa adds, "Visa has a significant focus on digitisation of B2B payments and we are teaming up with companies like Paymate to help simplify payables and receivables processes for businesses of all sizes. Our initial foray with Paymate in India resulted in a large number of Enterprises and SMBs making payments using Visa commercial cards across industry verticals, contributing to significant B2B payment volume growth in the country. We are keen to extend this alliance to enable our financial institution clients in CEMEA to streamline the B2B payments process for their corporate customers. At the same time, we are introducing secure, fast and efficient digital payments to the sellers to help optimize their cash flows."

Ajay Adiseshann, CEO, PayMate says, "There is an ever-increasing demand for automation and digitization of the entire procurement to payment cycle to help save cost, time and effort. SPARK students learn to code in Hour of code

Posted: 27 Feb 2019 07:57 AM PST

Next month, learners at SPARK Carlswald in Midrand will take part in the Finastra Hour of Code, a one-hour tutorial designed to broaden participation in computer science.

Six years ago, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said: "In 15 years we'll be teaching programming just like reading and writing and wondering why we didn't do it sooner."
The Hour of Code is a global movement reaching tens of millions of students in more than 100 countries. It started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science.

It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with one-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. This grassroots campaign is already supported by more than 200 000 educators worldwide.

The Hour of Code at SPARK Carlswald – which takes place on Monday, March 4 – is provided by Finastra free of charge through its Heart Plus Smart corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. Finastra works with the Code.org charity to give school children computer science and coding skills via the Hour of Code.

Finastra believes that every scholar should have the opportunity to learn computer science as it helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, scholars will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. Moreover, in a future that will be heavily influenced by artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics, having exposure and a basic understanding of computer science and coding is of paramount importance to today's youth.

SPARK Carlswald principal Luandra van den Heever is delighted with the opportunity given to the school's learners. "I am excited that Finastra is giving the scholars the opportunity to participate in the hour of coding and through this get more exposure to what coding is about. I look forward to seeing what our scholars are capable of!"

SPARK Carlswald is a pilot project with the view to rolling Hour of Code out across the rest of the SPARK primary school network during 2019.

Finastra is also training SPARK staff so that it is sustainable and replicable into future years.

Tips for choosing the right tech for mobile app development

Posted: 27 Feb 2019 07:15 AM PST

Mobile App Development
Speed to market is the key ingredient to sustaining a competitive advantage. In the app development world, choosing the right mobile technology stack could mean the difference between success and failure.

If one wants to create a highly functional mobile app – quicker and cheaper – one needs to choose the right mobile app technology. It is crucial to consider a language or framework with a selection of ready-made components for common development tasks.
The technology stack is critical to the long term success and viability of any mobile app development project. This not only includes the functional requirements but more importantly, the business requirements from ongoing maintainability, scalability and cost of ownership.

Bluegrass Digital CEO Nick Durrant says until recently, developers could only employ native platform skills to develop apps. "However, today there are other options to consider. As a software development company that designs and develops a number of B2C and B2B mobile applications for customers, we have to consider a range of tech stacks that are best suited for each project."

Mobile app development will continue to grow as more businesses adopt mobile technologies. One needs to consider the pros and cons of the most popular mobile app development approaches and the advanced tech stacks you can use to implement them.

Native app development

Native app development means using specific programming language for the platform. This means you need specific skills for each platform. For iOS you can select Objective C or Swift, although we tend to use Swift as the preferred language because it is more functional and generally provides better performance. For Android native development, we tend to use Java which is a well-established programming language with access to a large open-source community and libraries.

Hybrid app development

This uses standard web technologies that many developers are familiar with such as HTML5, CSS and JavaScript frameworks. Essentially you are building a web application that is wrapped in a container and then packaged as a mobile app. This does mean there is a lower barrier to entry for developers and we tend to see badly develop apps shipped via this method.

Over the years, we have refined our approach to deliver native-like performance in a hybrid built app. We tend to use a specific stack of JavaScript frameworks like Ionic along with Cordova to deliver the app.

Cross-platform app development

This approach means that you are delivering a native-built app for multiple platforms on IOS, Android and Windows. There are two popular technology stacks to consider, React Native and Xamarin. We have used both for different reasons and each has its advantages.

Xamarin is well established and uses C# as its main language. It is well supported by the Microsoft community and if built correctly, is a solid option for cross-platform development. We tend to use React Native as our chosen cross-platform tech stack. This is a JavaScript framework and appeals to a wider development community with strong JavaScript skills and compiles as a full native mobile app.

It was created by Facebook and has received much attention and adoption over the last few years. This is gaining popularity and we have invested a lot of time in developing our skills over the last 4 years having delivered a number of enterprise mobile apps for clients.

In summary, each approach comes with their own pros and cons, however like any type of development project it comes down to planning and execution. Choosing the best technology stack can boost one's business, it is therefore one of the most important decisions before starting any project.

Kwara: End of a political dynasty

Posted: 27 Feb 2019 07:01 AM PST

Bukola Saraki Casting His Vote
The defeat of Senate President Bukola Saraki at the senatorial election has signified the end of a political hegemony in Kwara State. SINA FADARE, who covered the elections in Ilorin, the state capital, writes on the implications for the Saraki dynasty.

Classical writer  late Prof. Chinua Achebe probably had in mind the people of Kwara State in his celebrated novel: 'Things Fall Apart' when he declared that: "Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold, the falcon cannot hear the falconer, things fall apart, the center cannot hold"

Achebe's dictum was the best to describe the political revolution anchored on that slogan, 'Enough is enough' that swept the big masquerade, Senate President Bukola Saraki, off his feet.

He thought that he had the financial muscle and political to swing the people of Kwara to dance to his orchestrated music, even if it was not good for their ears.

His father, the late Senator Olusola Saraki, established the dynasty in 1964 when he meticulously warmed himself into the heart of Kwarans and earned himself the sobriquet, 'Oloye.'

For almost five decades, he  combed the political field and endeared the people to him due to his robust and participatory political sagacity. Oloye was a political enigma and he left a big shoe, which his son thought he could put his leg and continue from where his father stopped.

The dynasty has installed six governors since 1979, hundreds of lawmakers at the state and national levels, and chairmen of sixteen local governments. In his days and when in good mood, Oloye will hysterically said "the governor of Kwara State is in my pocket, l am going to bring it out at my convenience."

However, the Machiavellian tactics of the end justified the means employed by Bukola to oil his political engine could not go down with the people. The political forces within and outside the state ganged up against him and showed that the will of the people matters.

Three school of thoughts emerged on why the Senate President lost his  grip on the state.

The first is of the view that, immediately he rode at the back of his father to become the governor instead of gathering seasoned technocrats that could turned the fortune of the state for better, he assembled people who ordinary should have nothing to do with governance, but only hero worshiped him, a situation that made his eight years as a governor a mere political passage.

According to these people, picking a successor among some of his stooge to further compounded his political woes because the state did not have anything to point to, in terms of development for another eight years. This encouraged a political revolution that eventually put him into the basket of history.

The  second is the view that, despite his political advantage as the number three citisen, Bukola was far away from the people. He surrounded himself with few opportunists who dance to the tune of his music and were not ready to tell him the truth when it matter most. So, when the chips are down they deserted him to his fate

The last school of thoughts is of the view that his successor, Abdulfatai Ahmed, allegedly dragged  governance into the dustbin by relegating the civil service  to a mere appendage of mandate group, the Saraki political group.

Lamenting this a level 14 officer who simply identified himself as Abdulkarim, pointed out that his total take home package every month was N62,000, adding that this is not what is in operation in any state.

Corroborating this assertion, at a press conference by retired civil servants, few days to the election, they pointed out that the state has shortchanged them and they are ready to take their own pound of flesh.

Speaking at the occasion, the chairman of the forum, Mohammed Abidoye, noted that they are worried by decayed infrastructure and poor government policy, which eroded the civil servant in the mud

He explained that the state has been subjected to miss-governance, due to poor leadership, adding that the concerned retired civil servant need to work with progressive mind  to bring sanity into the system.

Challenging the retiree, an elder statesman and a grassroots politician, Alhaji LAK Jimoh, said the wind of change that was blowing will leave no stone unturned in order to return the state into path of honour.

Jimoh enjoined the concerned retired civil servants to join hands with all members of the All Progressive Congress, (APC) to put a stop to age long suffering, poverty and political enslavement that has bedeviled the state.

The grassroots mobiliser said that the time to bail the people of the state from poverty, penury and political enslavement of many decades is now adding that enough is enough

"I enjoin all of you to come out in a massive way next Saturday day and vote for President Muhammadu Buhari once again so that he can complete the good work he had started.

All these silent agitators eventually became the foot soldiers of that political revolution under the umbrella of 'O to ge' model to demand for a change in a radical form which eventually nailed the political coffin of Bukola.

To Suleiman Abdulkadri, a politician and social crusader from Moro local government area, the policies embarked by the governor were anti-people, citing the case of relegation of  the Yoruba Obas in the local government while others are promoted.

He explained that there was no basis where the government can anchor their campaign because it is obvious that there was nothing on ground to point at to warrant the people's vote.

Speaking to the Nation after the announcement of the result, Hon, Wole Oke a progressive grassroots politician who had been on the battle field for kwara liberation for decades said kwarans have received an amazing grace from God who has delivered the land totally from age long political slavery

According to him, "the victory is a threshold of another history; the Berlin wall in Kwara has fallen and completely collapsed. We are now master of our own political fate and this is the end of godfatherism million in Kwara politics."

Reechoing Oke, a governorship candidate on the platform of the Labour Party (LP), Comrade Isa Aremu who claimed to have campaigned vigorously in all the 16 local governments said it was a joy to see a new dawn in the state.

Aremu, who regretted that Kwara was ranked as 28 on the list of states by Gross Domestic Product, GDP, behind newest states like Imo, Edo, Oyo and Osun, adding that it was a tragedy that out of 10 kwarans, 7 are wallowing in poverty and penury due to bad leadership and undeserved political hegemony.

With the booing of Bukola's vehicle as he was departing in a hurry to the airport from Ilorin to Abuja last Sunday, political pundits are of the view that the curse allegedly heaped on him by his father has come to past.

Delta NDCP complains about poll irregularities

Posted: 27 Feb 2019 06:28 AM PST

Mahmood Yakubu

The Delta State chapter of Nigeria Democratic Congress Party (NDCP), has alleged that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officers involved in the conspiracy to undermine the election.

NDCP had before the rescheduled general elections, accused heads of administration, general admin and procurement (GAP), and Information Communication Technology (ICT) respectively, of conspiring with the ruling party in the state to sabotage the commission's efforts for a credible election.

In a letter of February 18, by Chief Udiyobo Nonye Dafe, NDCP protested to INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Delta State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Cyril Omoregbe, and the National Security Adviser, Major General Muhammad Babagana Mongunu.

The party alleged that the three  have continued to display sympathy for the People Democratic Party (PDP), adding that it would affect the outcome of the rescheduled elections in the state.

Part of the letter read: "As one of the accredited agents for the election exercise in Delta State, available evidence I stumbled on was that instructions by Head of Admin, Mr. Enabor, to Electoral Officers (Eos) in the local government councils was to populate the presiding and assistant presiding officers list with PDP sponsored agents.

"I am bringing this evil machinations of your subordinates, to enable you take prompt and drastic measures that will enable you bequeath a free, fair and credible election that Nigerians are waiting to behold."

According to Dafe, who is also the leader of Delta Central Senatorial District chapter of the party: "Both the heads of GAP, Mr. Tony Ugboneh and ICT, Mr. Chidi, respectively, beside being PDP sympathizers, are very critical of policy initiatives of President Muhammadu Buhari, which they often expressed unconsciously in public fora. And if the trio, who recruited the RACHTEC personnel on the dictates of PDP, are not rescued before the rescheduled elections, the exercise in Delta State will end up being compromised.

"Therefore, the right thing to do is disqualify them and set aside the fraudulent architecture set they set up to secure victory for PDP, thereby denying electorates the right to have their votes count. We also demand that a new recruitment should be ordered under the watchful eyes of intelligence personnel."

He added: "The commission came up with a well thought policy of recruiting collation and returning officers, through a template that tends to insulate partisan persons from serving as election officials. Sadly, those eventually shortlisted for the jobs were not from the University of Benin, the purported institution approved for this category of personnel, but from a list of PDP supporters generated and handed over for posting, to create an undue electoral advantage for PDP against other parties."

Dafe stressed that investigation also revealed that substitutes "recruited for the collation/returning jobs were surreptitiously trained on February 12 at Beniza Hotel, Asaba. The same template was used in. populating the list of supervisory presiding officials with PDP card carrying members, who did not satisfy the laid down guidelines by INEC.

Efforts to get reaction of the Delta State INEC officials was not successful as the accused persons could not 's reactions to the disturbing development is yet to sail through as at press time.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu
Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC)  governorship candidate Babajide Sanwo-Oluhas yesterday said that the state is stronger socially and economically because of its diversity.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke against discriminatory comments fuelled by the disruption of elections in some areas  during the last weekend presidential and National Assembly elections, cautioned that Lagosians should not play into the hands of mischief makers and crisis merchants.

He said the state is a home for all, assuring that, if elected, his government will serve every Lagosian, regardless of their ethnicity, religion or party affiliation.

Speaking on the conduct of the last Saturday's elections, which he described as peaceful and well-coordinated, the flag bearer said there will be no discrimination in Lagos State.

He added: "Every resident of Lagos State is central to the promised socio-economic development of the State, and everyone has the right to identify with any party of their choice. We are stronger and better in our diversity."

"As a politician and a governorship candidate, it will be exciting for me to have the support of every tribe in the state, but where people have other preferences, I cannot say that they do not have such rights. However, it will only be appropriate for electorate to support a party that has made Lagos a home for everyone".

"For instance, 40 per cent of teaching staff in Lagos State public schools are non-Yorubas, the pupils in secondary schools, for which Lagos State Government pays for National Examination Council and Senior Secondary School Examinations are in equal proportion between the Yorubas and non-Yorubas in Lagos State"

"As a state, Lagos recognises her heterogeneity and will continue to promote the assorted ethnic composition as a unique advantage over other states in Nigeria. It is only in Lagos State that you can find Principal Officers, who are not ethnic people in the State Civil Service, Parastatals and Establishments. I call on our people to eschew violence and any form of harassment of innocent people. We must live in peace for development we know in Lagos to continue", said Sanwo-Olu.

Sanwo-Olu has anchored his campaign on Inclusive Governance stressing that he will work to positive impact in the lives and businesses of Lagosians.

Earlier in his campaign, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu had engaged a number of stakeholder groups, including the Ndigbo, Arewa, Akwa-Ibom, Edo, Ijaw and other ethnics associations in Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu has hinged his campaign on the THEME agenda, a wholly social transformation programme, that will bring about a sweeping impact on Transportation & Traffic Management, Health & Environment, Education & Technology, Making Lagos a 21st Century Economy and Entertainment & Tourism.

This policy direction, which the Sanwo-Olu government, will focus its developmental efforts on, is designed for collaborative execution by the Private and Public Sector to facilitate inclusiveness and shared prosperity.

NGO
An Enugu-based non-governmental Organisation, Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network, has admonished those dissatisfied with the outcome of the presidential election, to follow due process in seeking redress.

The Organisation made the call through its President,  Mr Olu Omotayo, while reacting to the announcement of Buhari as the winner of the election.

Omotayo told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Enugu that there were constitutional means of reacting to 'unfavourable' election outcomes.

It appealed to those dissatisfied with the outcome of the election, especially the main opposition party,  not to resort to self-help, thereby, adding to the tension in the country.

"The election has been conducted and INEC has declared the winner; those who are not satisfied with the outcome should follow constitutional means to vent their frustrations.

"It will not be in the interest of the country for anyone to foment trouble in Nigeria," it advised.

The Organisation also appealed to Buhari to put urgent machineries in place to calm frayed nerves across the country.

" The president should foster unity in the country by not allowing his party members to see this victory as their own; it is a victory for all Nigerians," it added.

The Network congratulated Nigerians for their steadfastness and belief in the electoral process, adding that the country would be better in the coming days.

Laura Ikeji set to reconcile with her sister-in-law, Amara Kanu
Social media influencer and fashionista Laura Ikeji has announced her plan to reconcile with her sister-in-law, Amara Kanu.

In a now deleted post, Laura put up Amara's photo on her Instagram page.

According to Laura, she and her sister-in law, Amara were cordial until Amara called out Laura's husband, Ogbonna Kanu on social media for stealing her son's ticket to the Leeds United game.

In a lengthy post, Laura explained her stance on saying they were nit friends.

Laura wrote,

"So this is my beautiful sister-in-law, heard she is great, heard because we have never met but heard she's cool. Hopefully we will meet soon and talk x hug this whole thing out.

We were quite cordial until she called my husband out on Instagram n never apologized. Since then we never spoke or exchanged messages, hence the "We re not friends" statement.

Listen guys, I'm not someone to ever bring negative light to the family, I'm a strong defender of family, u see how I love my siblings and that's how I've been with all my in-laws.

I don't want to be known as someone who would intentionally bring division among siblings cos I won't want that with my brothers or sisters. My husband n his brother re quite close n I don't want that to change for any reason whatsoever.

I won't want that to happen to me and Peks. Besides my in-law is an amazing man. Pls enough of the hate, enough of the name calling, enough of supporting one family or the other, let's stop the team A or B. In the end we will all sit at a table and eat as one big happy Kanu family.

All I said were from an angry place and I'm never someone to be angry or let a troll get to me. I shouldn't have. So hey let's be a lil kinder and let love lead. Will make the first move and put a call through. And Amara pls call ur bro inlaw hun, it's time for that talk.
