Phyno in the music video for 'Agu.'
Nigerian rapper, Phyno has released the colorful visuals to his single, 'Agu.'

The visuals celebrate his success as it captures various scenes from cross-section of his happy career moments to moments of fans delirium during his performance at the 2017 Phyno Fest concert held at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium in Enugu.

In Igbo, 'Agu' means Tiger. Asides also showing Phyno with some eminent individuals and legends, it showcases him as a man who has come a long way and has evolved into a genuine force to be reckoned with.

Indeed, while the song itself is good enough, the video directed by Clarence Peters is destined to drive it further.

Jussie Smollett's assault case has been dropped

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 11:00 PM PDT

Jussie Smollett
It looks like Jussie Smollett is having the last laugh after all the charges levelled against him for allegedly faking an assault on himself has been dropped.

According to TMZ, Jussie Smollett and his legal team were in court on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, where the charges levelled against him were dropped. His lawyers in their statement said Jussie Smollett has been vilified from all the accusations levelled against him.

"Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him. Jussie was attacked by 2 people he was unable to identify on January 29th. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public, causing an inappropriate rush to judgment.

"Jussie and many others were hurt by these unfair and unwarranted actions. This entire situation is a reminder that there should never be an attempt to prove a case in the court of public opinion. That is wrong. It is a reminder that a victim, in this case, Jussie, deserves dignity and respect. Dismissal of charges against the victim, in this case, was the only just result," he said.

It would be recalled that Jussie Smollett pleaded not guilty, to all the charges that were levelled against him boarding on lying to the police on his attack.

Bolt takes on Uber with launch of Food delivery service in South Africa

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 11:32 AM PDT

Not long after rebranding to Bolt, on-demand transportation platform has announced plans to launch a food delivery service.

The local launch is likely to see South Africa be one of the first three countries worldwide in which the service will be offered, along with Estonia and Finland.

Markus Villig, CEO and co-founder, Bolt, emphasises that the company has been built around offering the best prices for passengers, and the lowest commissions for drivers. "This has led us to grow faster and more cost-efficiently than any other ride-hailing platform in the world," he says.

"Now we want to bring this approach to food delivery. Combined with our technology, efficient operations and thousands of drivers in South Africa, we plan to build the best food delivery service for the people who already use our services daily."

The company rebrand is aimed at bringing the brand identity in line with the company's broader vision of transportation. Bolt's services already include ride-hailing, with cars and motorbikes, as well as scooter sharing.

Bolt is available in more South African cities than any other ride-hailing platform, and this development will enable more South Africans to access the convenience and cost efficiency of an app-based food delivery service.

You can top up your airtime on Whatsapp with MTNChat

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 03:58 PM PDT

Mapula Bodibe
MTN has on Tuesday, 26 March 2019 launched a platform that allows customers to top up airtime and buy data bundles on Whatsapp. Customers can also receive notifications and check their balances through the instant messaging platform, rather than visiting a website or dialing a call centre.

"Customer-centricity is the driving force behind MTN Chat because we are taking a solution for an often-required service, to a platform we know our customers are already using, in the form of WhatsApp. MTN Chat is helping customers simply and seamlessly manage their accounts off a secure and convenient platform they already know and love," says Mapula Bodibe, MTN SA's Executive: Consumer Business.

Global research by Gartner found that by 2020, customers will self-manage 25% of the relationships with their service providers without ever interacting with a human being.

"It's imperative that companies focus on improving self-service experiences to retain and grow customers and this is an important step for MTN, in addition to what we are doing to upgrade our overall customer journey," says Bodibe.

While MTN is ahead of the curve in providing advanced technology for its self-service experience, the plan is to further expand the MTN Chat channel offering in the near future. This will see the inclusion of services such as customer support, the management of upgrades and customer accounts, receiving balance notifications and the offering of customised deals. MTN hopes to incorporate other instant messaging platforms such as Facebook Messenger down the line.

Signing up to the new service is easy. As with any new WhatsApp contact, customers simply need to save the MTN Chat number 083 123 0011 to their contacts and send MTN a message saying "hi". Customers will be sent a link to opt-in and once they've opted in, they'll be offered a menu from which to choose their preferred service.

Security is a high priority and safety and confidentiality features have been built into MTN Chat to provide a secure means of communication. Customers interact with a single number that has a verification marker to mitigate fraud.

MTN South Africa partnered with global customer engagement company, Clickatell, to bring this solution to MTN customers. Clickatell is an authorised WhatsApp Business Solution Provider.

"Our customers should be able to interact with us whenever and however they choose and working with the Clickatell team, that has much experience in this space, allowed us easily integrate MTN Chat with our existing offering. This is an exciting development for our customers and we look forward to exploring new possibilities with Clickatell in future," Bodibe said.

Pre and post-paid customers can register through a one-time-only process to get activated by means of either their credit or debit cards. Registered MTN Chat customers will also enjoy more value with an exclusive offer of 1GB for R49 when recharging via MTN Chat.

Senate Presidency: APC’s endorsement of Lawan unconstitutional – Ndume

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 11:04 AM PDT

Ali Ndume
The endorsement of Senator Ahmed Lawan and Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the positions of Senate President and Speaker House of Representatives, in the 9th National Assembly, may have sparked off a crisis of confidence in the ruling party.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, one of the contenders for the Senate Presidency, on Tuesday described the endorsement APC handed to Lawan as unconstitutional and completely against the spirit of fair play.

The Borno South Senator told reporters in Abuja that the position of the party on who emerges the Senate President cannot stand as it did not follow due process.

The National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole, was reported to have announced the endorsement of Lawan and Gbajabiamila as candidates of the APC for the posts of Senate President and Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Ndume said that he consulted widely and was given the go-ahead by party leaders to vie for the position.

He insisted the Constitution provided the procedure for the election of the Senate President

For him, the best the party could have done was to zone the slot of Senate President to a geo-political zone and allow the zone to choose their candidate

Although Ndume said that he was not desperate for the position of Senate President, he assured that he would consult his colleagues on the way forward.
Ndume said: "First of all, let me say that the decision by the party to settle for an individual instead of zoning the position to a particular geopolitical zone and also consulting or allowing the senators from that zone to decide who among them they prefer as Senate President, is a surprise.

"We were surprised on Monday when national chairman of our party told us a decision had been taken to adopt Ahmad Lawan as candidate from the North East for the position of the President of the Senate.

"The reason why I am shocked and I am sure that is the feeling of my colleagues, is that the constitutional provision for the emergence of the leadership of the Senate is clearly spelt out.

"Section 51 (a) of the Constitution says that "there shall be a Senate President and Deputy Senate President who shall be elected by members of the House .

"Section 1 of the Constitution clearly states that "this Constitution is binding on all Nigerians and government agencies.

"It went further to say that any other law that contravenes the provision of the Constitution is null and void.

"As a party that is supposed to be democratic and as a government that insists on allowing due process to prevail, this is strange. A candidate of APC normally emerges by one of three means, namely- consensus, indirect elections and direct primaries.

"As I said, such a decision was taken and we were not given the chance to ask questions. We were not allowed to make comments.

"The President made his remarks and after that, the national anthem was recited.

"Even the chosen candidate was not given the chance to thank us or say something about it. Those of us that have indicated interests were not consulted or given the chance to make any comments.

"I left there with that shock but I slept well notwithstanding. I am one among equal. I am just one among 109 senators. I am not better than them, except for Lawan. I came back and slept well.

"My wife and children were worried about my feelings. I was even late for the prayers in the morning.

"I try my best in everything I do and I leave the rest to God. I am now leaving this to God and those who elected me. I am going home to consult with elders who gathered themselves and asked me to contest. I will consult with them and then take a final decision.

"The party has taken a decision. I ultimately wait on the decision of Almighty God and my colleagues. That is what I will say for now."

Asked to explain what he meant by waiting for his colleagues to decide his fate, he said: "You should not be confused. The constitution is clear. It says the Senate shall elect its president and deputy.

"Like I said, my decision to contest for the position of the Senate President is not personal. Even my colleagues encouraged me to run. Not just the elected ones. They said I should vie for the position. Even then, the party didn't say it had elected Ahmad Lawan. It only said it has nominated Lawan.

"The way the leadership of the National Assembly should emerge is clearly stated. Anything contrary to that means it is illegal and it can't stand. As I said, we wait on God.

"I am not the one saying this. It is the decision of my colleagues. I am one of those offering himself to contest for the position. I can't even nominate myself. Someone has to nominate and second me. I can't say that a candidate has been imposed on us. The decision is now left for my colleagues. If you look at the history of the National Assembly, such decisions have never gone down well.

"In 1999, Evan Ewerem was imposed. He didn't last. Wabara was also imposed. It didn't last. After that, the PDP we have accused of impunity didn't do this.

"In 2007, the PDP showed wisdom by zoning the position to North Central. That was what led to the contest between David Mark and George Akume. Because that happened, Mark served for two terms. Mark would have served for another term if PDP had won. He served his tenure peacefully.

Updated: Adamawa supplementary gov poll holds Thursday

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 10:26 AM PDT

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to conduct the supplementary governorship election in Adamawa State on Thursday, March 28.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Kassim Gaidam, announced this on Tuesday afternoon during a chat with reporters at the INEC state office in Yola.

He informed the decision was taken after due consultation with the INEC headquarters in Abuja.

He said efforts were being made with the various security agencies to ensure the violence, which characterised supplementary election in some other states does not repeat itself in Adamawa.

He added that to facilitate a hitch-free process, only voters with PVCs will be allowed into voting centres in the places where the supplementary election will hold.

The supplementary governorship election in the state had been scheduled for 44 polling units in 14 local government areas but it could not hold on March 23, which it was originally scheduled following a court injunction against it.

The decision by INEC to hold the rerun on Thursday followed the vacation of the order against the election by the Adamawa State High Court at a sitting in Yola earlier in the day.

After the conduct of the governorship election on March 9, the candidate of the Movement for the Restoration and Defense of Democracy (MRDD), Rev Eric Theman, went to the court to allege omission of the MRDD logo from the ballot paper, and asked the court to annul the election and stop the rerun already announced for units where voting was cancelled.

The court immediately granted an injunction to stop the rerun and continued proceedings to rule on arguments raised at subsequent sittings, including the court's jurisdiction over the case.

At the sitting on Tuesday morning, the Court ruled that it has jurisdiction, lifted its injunction against the supplementary election, and adjourned to Wednesday, March 27, to rule on the motion by the MRDD for the annulment of the March 9 election.

Unpaid salaries killed Kogi’s judicial officer, say colleagues

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 10:21 AM PDT

The death of Mr. Zekery Aguye, a Magistrate and Deputy Chief Registrar (Litigation) with the Kogi State judiciary, has led to unease in the service with colleagues attributing his demise to backlog of unpaid salaries.

Aguye reportedly died last Tuesday at the National Hospital Abuja after a protracted battle with prostate cancer.

He eventually died at the National Hospital, where he was initially being treated, before discontinuing treatment due to alleged inability to offset his medical bills.

The Chief Registrar of the State High Court, Mr. Yahaya Adamu, who confirmed the sad development, described Aguye's death as pathetic.

He described the deceased as one of the best hands in the state judiciary.

"I am very sorry to say that even as we subscribe to the will of almighty Allah, who gives and takes life, you and I know certainly that sometimes there are deaths that are evitable.

"In this particular one, we feel it may have been further delayed if we had continued to manage his ailment as we were doing in the past before the judiciary was financially grounded," he said.
According to him, Aguye's illness surfaced two years when he was diagnosed of the disease.

He pointed out with quick response and the concerted attention of the family and judiciary, the deceased received the proper medical treatment.

He added: "He was taken to the National Hospital where he was treated, to the extent that he even started driving his car by himself, having survived the critical period of the illness also affected his spine.

"When it all started, we thought it was one of those usual ailments. But when it became obvious that he needed to be handled by specialists, we headed for the National Hospital.

"You will agree with me that treatment there is highly capital intensive. So, in conjunction with the family and other wells wishers, he was revived.

"He was subsequently placed on drugs and periodic examinations by the hospital, which we consistently complied with.

"This processes costs between N400, 000 and N500, 000 monthly, depending on the result of the tests.

"By the grace of God and with the cooperation of the family and others we were coping with the management of the illness.

"However, we started having problems with his treatment as from the middle of last year when the Kogi State Judiciary started facing funding crises.

"At this point, his salary, allowances and even the little assistance the judiciary was giving him ceased to come anymore.

"His care suddenly became the exclusive responsibility of the wife and the family alone.

"You'll surely agree with me that, coupled with the children's demands, it will be difficult for the wife to bear this enormous burden.

"As a matter of fact, before he finally gave up the ghost, he was withdrawn from the National Hospital for lack of fund.

"It is at the critical point of his death that he was rushed back to the hospital by which time it was already too late."

He appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello to find solution to the impasse between the judiciary and the state government to avert further loss of lives.

APC drags Atiku, PDP to police, DSS over INEC server hacking

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 06:14 AM PDT

PDP Party Members
The Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress President-elect has formally lodged a complaint against the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate for criminally hacking into the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The complaint lodged in a letter today to the Acting Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services, followed the citing of alleged election results contained in the server in the petition filed by Abubakar Atiku and the PDP against the election of President Buhari.

Atiku claimed he was the winner of the election and that he got 1.6million more votes than President Buhari.

The complaint signed by Festus Keyamo, the Buhari campaign spokesman, urged the police and the DSS to invite, interrogate and investigate the PDP leaders over their admittance of illegal access to the INEC server.

The letter said the figures being quoted by the PDP were the fake voting figures posted on the server before the postponement of the presidential election on 16 February.

"The only conclusion one can draw from the above is that the PDP had prepared those results which were to be smuggled into the INEC Server. However, the sudden postponement of the election scuttled that evil plan, but it was too late to restrain the release of the fake results", the letter read.

The full letter

Monday, March 25, 2019

1. The Inspector-General of Police,

Police Force Headquarters,

Louis Edet House,Abuja.

2. The Director-General,

Department of State Services,

Aso Drive, Abuja.

Dear sirs,

PETITION TO INVITE, INTERROGATE AND INVESTIGATE THE PDP LEADERSHIP OVER ITS ADMITTANCE OF ILLEGAL ACCESS TO INEC'S SERVER

BACKGROUND

1.It would be recalled that an Electoral (Amendment) Bill containing the provision for electronic transmission of results to INEC's central computer system (otherwise called "server") was sent to President Muhammadu Buhari by the National Assembly for assent late in the year 2018.

2.Despite the shortness of time before the Presidential/National Assembly Elections, and the lack of time to first simulate the process to ensure its effectiveness in a country like ours with problems of effective networks in many rural areas and constant failure of technological devices, together with its violation of the time frame of such laws as provided for in regional and continental Protocols in terms of the length of time required for the passage of such laws before any major election, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party was hell-bent that the President should sign the Bill into law. That was the first indication that the main opposition was up to something sinister regarding the electronic transmission of the results.

3.Upon the last-minute postponement of the February 16, 2019 Presidential/National Assembly Elections, the nation was shocked to see already prepared presidential elections results floating around in the cyber space just less than 24 hours after the postponed election was originally billed to hold! The fake results had details of the scores of the candidates of the major parties. Of course, the fake results gave victory to the candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, even when elections did not hold.

4.The only conclusion one can draw from the above is that the PDP had prepared those results which were to be smuggled into the INEC Server. However, the sudden postponement of the election scuttled that evil plan, but it was too late to restrain the release of the fake results.

RECENT DEVELOPMENTS

5.The proper elections were held on February 23, 2019 and President Muhammadu Buhari declared the winner. Despite the approval of the elections as credible by nearly all local and international observers (except some few known PDP acolytes masquerading as local observers), the PDP cried foul and made a shocking claim: it claimed that from purported results it obtained from INEC's server, it has so-called proof that its candidate won the election by about 1.6million votes!

6.Shockingly and coincidentally, this margin was about the same margin by which it also purportedly "won" by the fake results released just hours after the postponement of the February 16, 2019 Presidential/National Assembly Elections.

7.As if this expensive joke was not enough, the PDP and its Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, have gone ahead to file an Election Petition against the clear victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and have repeated the same outlandish claim of having access to INEC's server which shows that they have some purported results at their disposal giving "victory" to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

8.Sirs, we wish you to note that INEC's server is the back end of electronic records of INEC. This is not INEC's website but its server! Although, the purported results have been conclusively shown by public engagements to be false and even ridiculous, especially as the total number of accredited voters is exactly equivalent to the purported votes of the APC and PDP candidates, this criminal claim of the PDP has revealed a few things:

(a)It is now clear that some criminally-minded PDP operatives have access to the INEC server to be able to smuggle in fake results into that server.

(b)The only means by which they could have access to the INEC server is by the criminal hacking of the server or through the criminal conspiracy of some INEC officials.

PRAYERS

The APC Presidential Campaign Council hereby prays that the Inspector-General of Police and the Director-General of the Department of State Services use your good offices to investigate the hacking of and/or illegal tampering with the INEC server by the PDP. The leadership of the PDP must be invited, interrogated and investigated and those identified as perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted.

Opposition is healthy in a democracy but it is not a license for criminality and illegality. A country governed by laws cannot be blackmailed or cowed into indolence by the perceived underdog status of the opposition so as to condone such a blatant criminal claim by the PDP of having illegal access to INEC's server.

We trust you will act with alacrity.

Thank you.

FESTUS KEYAMO, SAN, FCIArb (UK)

Director, Strategic Communications,

Oshiomhole: No Strategic committees for PDP in National Assembly

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 05:25 AM PDT

Adams Oshiomhole
The All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Adams Oshiomhole has insisted that the governing party with majority of senators and members-elect in the 9th National Assembly would not allow the opposition to hijack strategic committees.

Oshiomhole stated this at a dinner hosted by President Muhammadu Buhari for all the party's Senators, Senators-elect and some APC state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.

The APC chairman disclosed that the essence of the dinner was to plan on how to manage the leadership of the National Assembly to ensure that there would be no business with the opposition this time around.

He revealed that the party, with about 65 Senators-elect and 223 House of Representatives members-elect out of the 360, is in the position to make and take decisions without necessarily seeking the support of the opposition at the national assembly.

He mocked the 15 out of the 16 APC Senators that defected to other parties saying that "Nigerians punished them", noting that, "the one that God left was for him to entertain the house", apparently making reference to Sen. Dino Melaye.

"We are far ahead of the main opposition in the parliament. 223 out of 360. We have all the numbers required to make all the laws in the National Assembly.

"Only one out of 16 APC senators that decamped won election. It is the way God wants to punish them for us.

"Nigerians have decided to bless us with huge majority in the National Assembly because they want a vibrant government.

"God has given us the numbers to support your change government so that Nigerians especially the poor can benefit.

"We need to look inward and learn the right lesson from what happened in 2015. This time around, the strategic committees which were in the hands of opposition, we will ensure our members take charge.

"To do so, we thought it is important to sit down with you as our father (President Buhari) to discuss how the leadership of the National Assembly will emerge.

"The purpose is to congratulate you and to provide a platform for the senators-elect to interact with you.

On Ifeanyi Ubah, who was among the senators-elect at the dinner, Oshiomhole described him as a smart politician for joining the APC.

Ubah was elected as senator on Feb. 23 under the platform of the Young Progressive Party before announcing his defection to APC recently.

Those in attendance included the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, governors of Kogi, Jigawa, Oyo, Kaduna, Kebbi, Zamfara, Borno, Yobe, Plateau, Osun and Lagos states.

The Senators-elect at the event included all those who had directly or indirectly indicated interest to contest for the seat of President of the Senate in the 9th National Assembly.

Prominent among the prospective contestants for the Senate leadership are Ahmed Lawan, Danjuma Goje and Ali Ndume, all from Northeast zone of the country and Abdullahi Adamu from the North Central zone.

NGO calls for prosecution of electoral offenders

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 04:41 AM PDT

Mahmood Yakubu
Civil society organisation, the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA Africa), has called for the prosecution of perpetrators violence during the supplementary elections.

It said the non-compliance with electoral guidelines, intimidation of voters and observers, violence and voter suppression in some states impeded on the integrity of the exercise.

In a statement by YIAGA Africa's Watching the Vote (WTV) Working Group Chair Dr. Hussaini Abdu and Executive Director Samson Itodo, the group said it deployed 264 observers to 311 polling units in the 98 Local Government Areas (LGA) where supplementary elections were held.

It also sent 95 observers to 95 LGA results collation centres in the five states, namely Bauchi Benue, Kano, Plateau and Sokoto.

YIAGA Africa questioned the credibility of some results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in polling units and LGA collation centres where observers and voters were allegedly chased away by thugs and police officers.

It said: "The level of impunity observed in the supplementary elections is an indication of democratic recession in Nigeria. Political thugs unleashed violence and terror on unarmed voters, INEC officials and citizens without any form of restraint or reprimand from security agencies deployed for the elections…

"Nigeria cannot continue to condone this brazen disregard for law and order by political actors. As a country determined to make progress, electoral impunity must be checkmated else it will imperil our 20 year old democracy."

Calling for the prosecution of offenders, the group said: "Several electoral offences were observed and reported by WTV observers and other domestic and international observer groups.

"We urge INEC and Nigerian police to properly investigate cases of infractions and ensure diligent prosecution of electoral offenders.

"INEC and the police should extend the investigation to reports of complicity and collusion of its staff to compromise to the process."

YIAGA Africa praised INEC for "improved management of election logistics and timely deployment for the elections".

"We urge INEC to make concerted efforts to vacate the substituting court order restraining it from concluding the elections in Adamawa and Bauchi states.

"YIAGA Africa calls on all stakeholders to reclaim our democracy by demanding accountability against all state and non-actors whose act undermined the electoral process," the group said.

Eight-year-old Nigerian chess champion and his family move into a new apartment

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 04:30 AM PDT

Eight-year-old Nigerian chess champion
The eight-year-old Nigerian chess champion, Tanitoluwa Adewunmi, and his family have moved into a new apartment, courtesy of goodwill donations after his success story went viral.

According to the New York Times, the young Tani, who recently won the New York State Chess championship for his age bracket, got a GoFundMe drive which raised more than 200,000 dollars for him, his parents and brother.

The family settled on one of the more modest and practical housing offers: An anonymous donor paid a year's rent on a two-bedroom apartment near Tani's current school.

"The apartment is clean, comfortable and freshly painted, without being luxurious, and the Adewumi's gaze adoringly at their new kitchen.

"I want my mom's cooking again!" Tani mused as he explored the apartment. It was bare, but another donor had offered furniture, sheets and towels. "Someone else was sending 100 chess books."

It added that three film companies are vying to make movies about Tani.

The young chess champion, whose family are taking asylum in a homeless shelter in Manhattan after they fled the Boko Haram insurgency, won seven chess trophies, including the state tournament, where he outwitted other children.

Master Adewunmi went undefeated at the state tournament, outwitting children from elite private schools with private chess tutors.

His rating is now 1587 and rising fast and he is being compared with the world's best player, Magnus Carlsen, who stands at 2845.

His feat has attracted commendations from parents and celebrities, with the story getting the attention of former US president Bill Clinton, who invited the lad and his parents to his office.

Kwara: New dawn, new expectations

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 04:25 AM PDT

AbdulRazaq AbdulRaheem
Babamale Ismail examines the challenges that will confront Kwara State Governor-elect Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq

AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, the Governor-elect of Kwara State, is today the closest public official who bears as much burden of expectations as President Muhammadu Buhari did in 2015.

Although his fellow party men have also clinched all the legislative seats at the state and national levels, AbdulRazaq has won the biggest prize in the 2019 elections in his state.

Kwara has had a peculiar history. It was the only state where, as if in a monarchy, a son almost seamlessly succeeded his father as the political leader of the north-central state. Cumulatively, the Sarakis reigned for nearly four decades amid tight control of the socioeconomic and political destiny of the people. While the older Saraki was respected for his friendly style, notwithstanding his prebendal politics, the younger Saraki is considered an arrogant dictator against whom Kwarans have finally revolted.
This piece is not about castigating the Sarakis. It is about the natural expectations of a people who have long yearned for good governance, probity and development. For this reason, AbdulRazaq deserves to be pitied because the next few months may be tougher than he and his team had ever thought. Kwara hasn't been creative or smart enough to shore up internally generated revenues. The Sarakis ran an unsustainable patronage system which made thousands — including the political class — totally dependent on favours or crumbs from elected or appointed officials.

This system is fed with public funds. This system had until recently made it almost impossible for any opposition figure to succeed. Indeed, apparently knowing the difficulty in sustaining the patronage system, the Sarakis often taunted the opposition for being nocturnal politicians who couldn't stay around for too long. Staying around means spending so much to keep your support base. That system served the Sarakis because they were in government.

This is the system AbdulRazaq is inheriting. It is not sustainable — certainly not in Kwara with less than 3bn monthly allocation and less than one billion naira IGR. Yet he cannot simply discard it on his first day in office. But the people must realise this system must end if Kwara will progress. There must be a consensus for this system to end and for development to take place.

Forget the pretences in the media, Kwara has one of the most opaque systems in human history. AbdulRazaq will discover soon enough that he's inheriting problems far greater than he ever imagined. These include huge debts, unpaid salaries, pensions, and a rotten public accounting system. In the bid to cover up shady deals, many public spendings not linked to concrete projects or verifiable endeavours will not be accounted for.

These are the realities of the next four years. I have always told friends in private circles that, like Buhari, whoever succeeds the Saraki dynasty may be very unlucky except God decides to be kind with him and give him a very understanding public. Things can hardly be rosy for the new government because Kwara has operated an unaccountable 'monarchy' in the past 16 years.
For the first time, Kwarans will have a government that would be subject to viable opposition from not just the ousted Saraki but the now energetic public themselves. While the Sarakis, like the PDP in Buhari's case, will pray that AbdulRazaq should fail, the public will be in a haste to have things fixed within the shortest time possible. Like a man feigning sleep, nothing can placate the Sarakis. They will seek to wrong-foot the new government every step of the way to prove that the people were wrong to have chosen AbdulRazaq.

Kwarans must never fall for such in their own interest. The people of Kwara must realise that the state has reached the rock bottom and is just about to start anew. Without necessarily indulging bad behaviour or arrogant posturing, they will need to support the new government to reset governance. This won't happen overnight.

Because so many things are wrong and would require critical thinking to move in the right direction, the new administration may appear slow or inactive. It would require patience, proper planning and constructive criticism to move the state forward.

As my dear state begins a new journey on May 29, it is perfectly within the democratic right of the people to be vigilant and expectant of a better deal. However, such expectations must be realistic and situated within the context of where the state is coming from. Things will definitely change for the better in Kwara but it would be gradual. No miracles. I wish the governor-elect good luck for he deserves all the prayers and support at the moment.

BBNaijaReunionShow: How Ebuka reacted to Ifuennada, Ahneeka’s fight on stage

Posted: 26 Mar 2019 02:57 PM PDT

A mild drama ensued on Monday night during the 'DoubleWahalaReloaded' show between Ahneeka and Ifuennada.

Ahneeka had during the show hosted by Ebuka, confronted Ifuennada; accusing her of sabotaging her relationship with Angel

Ebuka
This almost led to a physical combat as Ifuennada rose up in defence, trying to put up a fight with Ahneeka. But thanks to Ebuka's intervention and that of bouncers on the show, who separated them.

Reacting to the whole drama, Ebuka, who was infuriated by the physical display of grievance, expressed disappointment at the ex-housemates.

He told the housemates never to result in violence in settling their differences, especially on the show.

Ebuka said: "Ahnneeka I don't know whatever it is you've been sabotaged for that you stood up and tried to put up a fight with Ifuennada

"Violence is not the answer and I don't know why you had to leave it to get to this point. This is not why we are here

"This is not why we are here to say I'm disappointed is an understatement.

In response, Ifuennada broke down in tears and apologized to Ebuka and everyone for disrespecting them, same as Ahneeka.
