JUST IN: EFCC Allegedly Invades Home Of Atiku's Company Finance Director

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 05:47 PM PST

Alhaji Babalele Abdullahi and EFCC

The Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were on Saturday, allegedly said to have invaded the Abuja residence of the Finance Director of Atiku's group of companies, Alhaji Babalele Abdullahi.

A statement by Atiku's media adviser, Mr, Paul Ibe, said the EFCC operatives, numbering about two dozen, stormed Absullahi's Maitama District home at 8.30 am.

Ibe stated that the operatives came in two regular vehicles, an 18-seater Toyota bus, marked Abuja CS 522 RSH; and a Toyota Hilux van.

The statement said, "They came with a search warrant to search the house and office of Babalele and found nothing incriminating. They then proceeded to his office at Oakland Centre in Maitama and found nothing incriminating there.

However, they took away some documents of landed property.

"Not done, the EFCC officials stormed his Wuse residence where they again found nothing incriminating after the search.

Afterwards, Babalele was taken away to the EFCC office in Wuse to make a statement alongside Mr. Lawan Ayuba.

"It was gathered that the petition relied upon to invade the residence and office of Babalele was authored by a brother of the wife of President Buhari.

"As a law abiding citizen, Atiku Abubakar recognizes the constitutional role of the EFCC and indeed any other agency of the government to carry out investigations, but will not be cowed by any attempt to blackmail him into mortgaging his mandate".

The statement added that the invasion of Abdullahi's home was part of the desperate moves by the authorities to make Atiku congratulate and concede the mandate to President Buhari.

APC Crisis: Imo APC Says Okorocha Suspension ‘null and void’, Demands Resignation Of Oshiomhole

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 05:32 PM PST

Rochas Okorocha and Adams Oshiomhole

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State has dismissed the suspension of governor Rochas Okorocha by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party led by Adams Oshiomhole.

The party says Oshiomhole who is known for disobeying rule of law had trod same path by not following the party's constitution in the purported suspension.

The state chairman of the party, Daniel Nwafor who addressed a press conference in Owerri on Saturday, said the suspension of both Okorocha and his Ogun State counterpart, Ibikunle Amosun was null and void.

Nwafor maintained that the party will not respect the decision of the NWC and called for the resignation of Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the party.

He said "I am here with the APC chairman from Ogboko ward where the governor hails from. There was no letter from the NWC to him to query the governor for any offence.

"The truth is that Oshiomhole is a man who has no respect for rule of law. He has a penchant for disobeying valid court judgments and orders.

"We demand his immediate resignation from APC. Adams Oshiomhole has outlived his usefulness in APC. As a party, we will not honour that purported suspension. It is null and void and of no effect. Governor Rochas Okorocha remains the leader of APC in Imo state."

He added that the governorship candidate of the party in the state, Senator Hope Uzodinma was unknown to members of the party and as such could not win the support of the party.

Nigeria Presidential Election: See What Babangida Told Atiku To Do

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 05:10 PM PST

 General Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd)

General Ibrahim Babangida (Rtd), Nigeria's former Military President, has urged Atiku Abubakar to concede defeat following his loss in the last presidential election.

President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had defeated Atiku of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after polling 15,191,847 votes as against Atiku's 11, 262,978 votes with a victory margin of 3,928,869 votes.

Babangida in a statement he signed on Saturday, said he was particularly impressed with the gallant and audacious spirit of the main challenger in the presidential race.

He noted: "I was not surprised that even though he lost the most exotic position of the land, his doggedness and pattern of support cut across ethnic, religious and regional lines that earned him the second position of the last Presidential election.

"I call on the former Vice–President Atiku Abubakar to close ranks and work with the winner of the election in an objective and constructive manner so that democracy will continue to thrive in our country at this crucial period of renaissance.

"I urged him also to endeavour and prevail on his admirers to eschew bitterness and violence. They must be prevailed upon to understand that politics is a game in which there must be only one winner.

"I pray that the Almighty Allah will continue to guide our democratic steps for peace and progress in our country."

Sultan Of Sokoto Opens Up On Buhari’s Victory, Discloses Why President Was Re-Elected

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:58 PM PST

Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar
The umbrella organisation for Muslims in Nigeria, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) under the leadership the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, on his reelection.

It described President Buhari's reelection as a reward for his good character and transparent honesty.

The organization, therefore, advised the president to continue to be focused, fair, and firm in his administration's efforts to reposition the country for good.

In a statement by the chairperson of its media committee, Femi Abbas, the organisation said it would continue to pray for the President's success.

The statement reads: "In appreciation of the Almighty Allah for His boundless favours on Nigeria through Your Excellency and acknowledgement of His honour in making your re-election a success, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), under the leadership of its President-General, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, congratulates you on your electoral victory and wishes you another successful tenure as President of our beloved country.

"As Your Excellency is aware, you are a pride not only to us as an Ummah but also the entire black race by virtue of your unique personality and immense qualities which have endeared you to millions of minds, including those of us in the Council and our affiliate bodies. It is a sign of walaayah (friendship) with Allah that a person's love is planted in the hearts of people.

"You are a refreshing source of inspiration to many people all over the world as a symbol of unimpeachable character, transparent honesty, unimpregnable integrity and unassailable righteousness.

"As Allah says in the Glorious Qu'ran, 'is there any reward for good other than good?' (Q55:66), Nigerians in their overwhelming majority have rewarded Your Excellency's goodness with a vote of confidence in you through the last February 23 presidential election.

"We have no doubt that you are aware that leadership is a trust and that as Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, every shepherd (leader) will be asked about his flock (followers); yet, we must enjoin you to continue to do your best in the interest of the country.

"We urge you to continue to be fair and firm in leading Nigeria to where she deserves, despite the unfounded blackmail and character assassination by those whose pre-occupation is to eliminate Muslims and Islam from the public space in order to continue to use religion to exploit and extort gullible individuals.

"We urge you to be wary of hypocritical do-gooders contriving a non-existent tension for relevance when indeed by their partisan pre-election activities, they cannot genuinely lay claim to neutrality and sincerity.

"Our prayer is that the Almighty Allah continues to grant you good health, long life and divine wisdom to steer the ship of Nigeria to the shore of greatness in peace, development, security and decorum. We also beseech Him to continue to guide and guard you in the discharge of your onerous duties so that you will remain a pre-eminent role model that you are for all incorruptible persons," the NSCIA said.

Buhari vs Atiku: Obiano Discloses Reason He Supported APC, Mocks Igbo Leaders

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:16 PM PST

Governor Willie Obiano

The Governor of Anambra State,  Governor Willie Obiano, has disclosed that he supported President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, because he knew before hand that the president will win his re-election bid last weekend.

Governor Obiano, who disclosed this on Saturday in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. James Eze, said he knew that it was impossible to beat President Muhammadu Buhari in the last presidential and National Assembly elections.

The governor said he made it clear to his close friends and allies that the opposition did not stand a chance against the president.

He argued that in a federation that has developed a thick skin for fairness, equity and justice, it is wiser to be subtle than confrontational, Daily Post reports.

He warned that Ndigbo must not stumble twice over the same stone. But nobody understood him then, for though most of them have been in politics long before him, but foresight is a gift that is not available to everyone.

"And now that the chickens have come home to roost, it has become clear to Governor Obiano that foresight comes at a price.

"Foresight is a lonely path to tread. It breeds unexpected resentment and hate. Having foresight could turn you into a sudden object of anger and unwise attacks.

"But on the long run, it never leaves you without the enduring sheen of grace and glory. And that happens only when the people finally wake up to smell the coffee.

"Sadly, in the case of many farsighted leaders, this happens after they are out of office or after they are gone!"

Obiano however had denied claims by some candidates of other political parties in the state that he had endorsed them for the forthcoming general elections, saying that he had endorsed only candidates of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA.

JUST IN – Saraki’s Residence Surrounded By Security Agents

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:06 PM PST

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki

Security Agents has allegedly surrounded the residence of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki on Friday night.

This was revealed in a statement by Director, Media and Publicity, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organization, Kola Ologbondiyan on Saturday, PoliticsNGR reports.

Ologbondiyan further stated that the opposition party remained unperturbed on alleged intimidation, harassment and fresh attacks on its leaders by the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

"No amount of false reports, connivance, contrivance, intimidation, harassment and fresh attacks on our leaders, including the Director General of our Presidential Campaign, Senate President Bukola Saraki, whose residence was besieged by security agents last night, can alter this resolve," he added.

Recall that Saraki lost his bid to return to the 9th Senate. He lost to an APC candidate, Yahaya Oloriegbe in the recently concluded National Assembly election.

Ologbondiya further stated that the party has all the authentic results from all the polling units as well as forensic evidence of alleged manipulations by the APC and INEC in defending its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

"We will bare them all at the tribunal and the court will give justice to Nigerians.

"On that note, the PDP states unequivocally that nothing will change its resolve to pursue this despicable electoral fraud, unknown in our political history, to its end.

"We shall devote every energy necessary to reclaim our mandate and have Atiku Abubakar declared President, in line with the will of the people as delivered at the polling units on February 23, 2019."

More than 50 missing after oil pipeline explosion in Nigeria

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:17 PM PST

Over 50 people are said to be missing after a leaking oil pipeline exploded and caused a stampede in southern Nigeria, a local official said on Saturday.

The blast early on Friday caused massive oil spillage in the Nembe kingdom in Bayelsa state, the Nembe Chiefs Council spokesman, Chief Nengi James-Eriworio, told the Associated Press.

The Nembe trunk line is operated by the Port Harcourt-based Aiteo Group and carries crude oil to the Bonny export terminal. Aiteo has yet to comment on the explosion. It was not immediately clear if the pipeline has been shut down.

Video obtained by the AP shows a large blaze from the ruptured pipeline at night as villagers look on. "If they turn off the oil well from the station, the pressure inside the pipeline would reduce, causing the flame to burn out," one person is heard in the background explaining.

The Niger Delta is highly polluted. Nigerian oil companies usually assert that the majority of oil spills are caused by sabotage, theft and illegal refining.

Fatal accidents caused by leaking pipelines are common. In January, an overturned oil tanker exploded in Odukpani in Cross River state while dozens of people were scooping up the leaking fuel. Police said at least 12 people were killed while some witnesses estimated up to 60 were dead.

Hundreds of people have died in similar accidents in recent years in Africa's largest oil producing country as impoverished people risk their lives to collect fuel leaking from pipelines or trucks.

See Why Uzor Kalu’s Election Can’t Stand – Ohuabunwa

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:57 PM PST

Chief Orji Uzor Kalu
The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) candidate for Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, Friday faulted the declaration of Chief Orji Uzor Kalu as senator-elect for Abia North insisting that the purported election of Kalu cannot stand.

Ohuabunwa who spoke at a press conference in Abuja said that at best the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should have declared Abia North Senatorial election inconclusive.

He claimed that most of the announced results did not emanate from polling units in the senatorial district.

Ohuabunwa said that Bende Local Government Area result did not emanate from the polling units as no results were declared at that level.

He added that "all results in Bende LGA should have been canceled but the Returning Officer was forced at gunpoint to declare the result for House of Representatives even when he noted 7,601 canceled votes which was more than the margin of 3,547 and he fled afterwards to Umuahia where he issued a statement calling for the cancellation of what he declared."

Again he said that Nkporo in Ohafia LGAs recorded 21,360 cancelled votes in 32 units of two Wards; precisely Ndi Elu – 15 and Ndi Agbo – 17.

In Arochukwu, his LGA, Ohuabunwa said recorded 31,284 cancelled votes with 72 of 149 Polling Units canceled.

He also said that elections were cancelled at polling units inside Abia State University, Uturu in Isuikwuato LGA with about 19,563 registered voters disenfranchised.

He said that that was more than the margin of victory of 3,708 votes recorded for the LGA.

According to him, Ohafia town recorded 4,682 cancelled votes while total number of canceled votes stood at 76,889 with announced margin of victory 10,402.

Difference between margin of victory and cancelled votes, he said stood at 66,487

Ohuabuwan wondered why INEC should validly declare a winner of that poll with the discrepancies.

He stressed that "the INEC returning officer for Abia North election, Dr Charles Anumudu, is a brother to Willie Anumudu of Globe motors, who is a long term associate of Orji Uzor Kalu and through whom he procured most of the vehicles he bought as Governor of Abia State between 1999 and 2007."

He urged INEC to declare the election inconclusive to pave the way to hold election in areas results which were cancelled.

Akala Dumps Gubernatorial Ambition As He Returns To APC

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:50 PM PST

Adebayo Alao-Akala
Adebayo Alao-Akala, the former Governor of Oyo State, has returned to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He is the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the March 9 governorship election.

The former governor,  made the decision earlier today after meeting the APC National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Abuja and Lagos, The Nation reports.

A reliable source within the party confirmed that the Ogbomoso-born politician will make a statement on his new decision today for his supporters across the state to understand the reasons for his move ahead of the March 9 governorship and House of Assembly election.

His return to the APC will deal a heavy blow on the alliance he was leading among opposition parties against the governing party in the state.

He was leading an alliance between ADP, African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Prior to the election, Akala had vowed that all opposition parties would do anything to end to the reins of the APC in the state.

But the intervention of Tinubu and other national leaders made him change his mind.

The former governor left the APC last October to pick the governorship ticket of the ADP.

He is widely believed to have influenced the victory of the PDP in Ogbomoso Zone in the February 23 presidential election.

JUST IN: Akeredolu Set To Hold An Emergency State Broadcast, Ahead Of State House of Assembly Election

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:39 PM PST

Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu
Apparently in a panic mode ahead of the state House of Assembly election, Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor of Ondo State, is billed to address a state broadcast on Friday.

The broadcast is slated to be aired on the state government-owned media station, the Ondo State Radio-Vision Corporation (OSRC) and Orange Fm 94.5, Akure. The state broacast has been fixed for 7pm, it was gathered.

Top government sources told our reporters that the broadcast was an "arrangement" to convince the electorate in the state, after the fallout of the defeat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidential and National Assembly elections, Sahara Reporters reports.

"Don't mind the white-bearded man. The idea was given to him by some persons in our government and I pity the Governor, because he doesn't know anything about politics," a source in his government said.

"You cannot have your cake and eat it. It is obvious that Akeredolu has lost grip on the people. He worked against the party in the last poll by asking people to vote for AA. So, I am sure he would lose the state."

A copy of the broadcast speech seen by our correspondent revealed the Governor's plans to appeal to the people to "see the state House of Assembly election as a family affair and vote for the candidates whose campaign promises are in line with his vision".

Already, Akeredolu has been meeting with the people, pleading with them to vote his candidates in the APC. The Governor is also billed to meet with all cadres of state government workers on Monday at Adegbemile Cultural Centre in Akure.

See Why We Suspended Amosun, Okorocha, Usani, Okechukwu, Queried Akeredolu – APC NWC Gives Full Details

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:32 PM PST

Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), National Working Committee (NWC) has suspended the Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun and the Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha for anti-party activities.

Among those suspended by the APC NWC over anti-party activities are the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani and the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Osita Okechukwu.

This decision was reached on Friday at a meeting of the Party's NWC, presided by the National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole at the APC National Secretariat.

The NWC has also taken a decision to recommend the expulsion of the suspended individuals to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party, Daily Post reports.

A statement by APC spokesman, Lanre Issa-Onilu said "the NWC would also issue a query to the Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu over his glaring anti-party activities, which greatly affected the fortunes of our candidates in the recently-conducted Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.

"Recall that the NWC had earlier written to the suspended governors on their anti-party activities, and several other steps were taken to ensure they desist from taking actions that are inimical to the interests of our party and candidates. Notably, these individuals have not shown any remorse and have actually stepped up their actions."

It reads: "The party reviewed the serial anti-party activities of the concerned individuals before and during the last Presidential and National Assembly elections in their respective states and resolved to enforce party discipline in line with our constitution.

"The NWC noted how the suspended members have continued to campaign openly for other parties and candidates that are unknown to our great party, even while they have constituted themselves as opposition to APC candidates in their respective states.

"Importantly, the NWC is closely monitoring the activities of our members across the country, and particularly, in the states these suspended members belong to. We wish to reiterate that any member of our party who takes any action solely or in line with the directives of the suspended members to undermine our party's candidates in the coming governorship and House of Assembly elections would face disciplinary actions.

"We wish to congratulate our members nationwide for the victories we recorded across the country in the last elections and particularly, the renewal of our party's mandate for President Muhammadu to continue to pilot the affairs of this country for another four years.

"This could not have happened if not for the hardwork and commitment of our members. We therefore urge all our members to unite and work ever harder to ensure victory for our candidates across the states in the coming governorship and House of Assembly elections.

"Consequently, the NWC calls on our members to disregard directives and actions of the suspended individuals as APC would continue to live by the dictate of our constitution."

Okorocha Fires Back At Oshiomole Over suspension, Accuses APC Chairman Of Attempt To Destroy Party

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:25 PM PST

Gov. Rochas Okorocha and Comrade Adams Oshiomhole
The Governor of Imo State, Gov. Rochas Okorocha has reacted to his suspension notice from his party, the ruling All Progressives  Congress (APC).

Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha alleged that Adams Oshiomhole was determined right from the outset to destroy APC in the South-East and unknown to party chieftains from the zone who had genuinely supported his chairmanship.

He also accused Oshiomhole of playing the politics of 2023 in 2019 thereby throwing caution to the wind.

Governor Okorocha also accused the APC Chairman of having a hand in all the crisis in the South-East states arising from what he described as the fraudulent manner he conducted the party primaries.

He recalled that in 2015, Governor Okorocha joined the merger that gave birth to APC at the risk of his second tenure and was called all sorts of unprintable names. Yet, he won the governorship election and delivered 24 out of the 27 members of the House of Assembly for APC, two House of Reps members and one senator, The Sun Newspaper reports.

Governor Okorocha further explained: "In 2019, Oshiomhole felt that such a man should be treated with disdain. He handed over the governorship ticket of the party to Hope Uzodinma who has never resigned his membership of the PDP on the floor of the Senate like others did, giving all kinds of flimsy excuses.

"And if Oshiomhole had meant well for APC and Imo people in particular, would he have given the ticket of the party to a man facing five corruption charges and having travel ban slammed on him, to be the party's candidate?

"In February 23, 2019, presidential and National Assembly election, Governor Okorocha won in ten, out of the twelve local governments in Orlu zone to emerge winner for Imo West senatorial district. He also delivered four House of Representatives candidates on the platforms of APC and AA respectively, with one Senate seat and two House of Representatives seats outstanding."

Lamenting further on the suspension notice  he said: "And when the APC members across the nation are still celebrating the success of the party in the presidential and National Assembly elections, Oshiomhole in his wisdom or lack of it, felt that the best action in the circumstance is to suspend two governors who did well in the election, even when he played safe in 2015 and 2019 in Edo State without any known pressure.

"Again, Oshiomhole coming up with the purported expulsion this time was only acting out of the fear that God in his infinite mercy could give Governor Okorocha a role to play in the Senate, in the overall interest of the nation," Governor Okorocha stated.

Governor Okorocha, however, promised that APC especially in the South-East and in Imo, in particular, would outlive Oshiomhole.

"Men like him hardly sleep with their two eyes closed. They always sleep with their eyes open because they have murdered sleep with their actions and inactions. And unfortunately for him, the purported expulsion can't stand because the law has taken care of it even long before now." Okorocha added.

JUST IN: At Last, Okorocha, Amosun, Others Suspended By APC

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:16 PM PST

Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) has wielded the big stick against the governors of Imo and Ogun states, Rochas Okorocha and Ibikunle Amosun, by suspending them over anti-party activities.

The national leadership merely ratified the suspension of the duo during the NWC meeting at the party's secretariat following the earlier pronouncement by the states party's working committee earlier this year over their supports for governorship candidates on the platform of other political parties.

Confirming the suspension which was equally clamped on the Minister of Niger Delta, Usani, Usani Uguru, and the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Osita Okechukwu and the National Publicity Secretary of APC, Mallam Lanre Isaa-Onilu, said that official statement would soon be made available, The Sun Newspaper reports.

"I can confirm to you that the suspension is true. A statement is in the works," he said.

Governors Amosun and Okorocha were both elected senators on the platform of APC in last weekend's National Assembly elections, but they are backing different candidates for the March 9 governorship election on another party's platforms instead of their party, APC.
