Mr Ibu: My Sister started the whole Stroke Rumour

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 11:30 PM PDT

Nollywood veteran John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, according to Punch, said his sister was part of those behind rumours he was down with stroke.

After the news spread, Mr Ibu recorded several videos on Instagram, debunking the stories, saying he's in good health.

He told Punch's Saturday Beats:

I don't know what actually happened; one of my sisters was also part of the rumour mongers.

She just opened a media house; so she is looking for a way to make her brand go viral. I feel she should have consulted me before spreading this kind of news and I would have given her another angle to explore such that it would not affect my image.

The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria also confirmed that I was sick and it is very funny. The only bad incident that has happened to me recently was when I was attacked in Nnewi during Christmas and I have recovered.

I have forgiven my sister for what she did. I am alive and well, my wife was very angry over the news and wanted to take action but I told her not to do so.

I've left it to God for Him to defend me.

Ruggedman Demands Death Sentence For Trigger-Happy Police Officers

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 10:30 PM PDT

Ruggedman
Ruggedman's anger has been triggered once again with killings of innocent Nigerians by police officers. He called on the government to pronounce death sentence on any police officer that kills innocent Nigerians.

We understands that the rate of recent killings of innocent people by police officers became alarming recently with several tragic events to reference.

Yesterday, 13th of April, police officers allegedly killed a 20-year-old girl, Jessica Ada, by SARS officers in Ajegunle, Lagos state on Saturday April 13th.

The SARS officers allegedly trailed Jessica and her boyfriend and shot at them after they refused to stop for interrogation while they were returning from a club. Family sources say Jessica and her boyfriend refused to stop because the officers did not have any form of identification on them.

While reacting to the killing, Ruggedman stated ;

"Nigerians let's demand the death sentence for Nigerian police officers who kill innocent Nigerians

NASS: APC governors endorses Lawan, Gbajabiamila – Shettima

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 04:03 PM PDT

Kashim Shettima
Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno says former governors in the ninth National Assembly have endorsed the candidature of Sen. Ahmed Lawan for the seat of Senate President.

Shettima, who confirmed this development when he fielded questions from newsmen in N'Djamena, Chad, said the affected senators-elect had also endorsed Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila for the position of Speaker of the House Representatives.

The governor also revealed that all the Senators-elect and House of Representatives members-elect from Borno state have endorsed candidature of Lawan and Gbajabiamila.

He, therefore, dismissed the insinuation in some quarters that former governors in the national assembly were against the election of Lawan and Gbajabiamila as leaders of the two chambers of the national assembly.

According to Shettima, the only way APC governors can show appreciation to President Buhari is for them to support his programmes and political decisions.

"All our governors including those coming to the senate are 100 per cent in support of our party's stance as far as election of new leadership for the national assembly is concerned.

"As far as Borno is concern, we are in alignment with the aspirations of Mr President and that of our party.

"Whoever the party endorses for any position, we will solely stand behind such a person because party discipline is absolutely essential for the sustainability of our democratic experiment.

"If everyone is to vote according to his own free will surely that would be a recipe for disaster or confusion.

"So, we have to align ourselves with the aspirations of the president,'' he said.

The governor, who was part of President Buhari's entourage to meeting of member nations of the the Community of Sahel – Saharan States (CEN SAD) in N'Djamena, expressed the hope that the body would come out with lasting solutions to the challenges of insecurity in the affected areas.

While commending President Buhari for his role in promoting peace and stability in the region, the governor enjoined member nations of the CEN SAD to intensify efforts in addressing the problems of terrorism and banditry along the Lake Chad basin and beyond

Breaking: No plans to remove fuel subsidy – FG

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 03:57 PM PDT

The federal government has declared it has no plans to remove fuel subsidy.
Finance Minister Mrs Zainab Ahmed disclosed this on Sunday at a joint press briefing with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele at the end of the 2019 World Bank/International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings in the United States.

She said: "We are here to discuss with the global community on various policy issues. One of the issues that always come up, especially in the IMF Article IV is how we handle fuel subsidy.

"So in principle, the IMF would say fuel subsidies are better removed so that you can use the resources for other important sectors, which is a piece of good advice.
"But in Nigeria, we do not have any plans to remove fuel subsidies at this time because we have not yet designed buffers that will enable us to remove the subsidy and provide cushions for our people."

She added: "So there is no plan to remove fuel subsidy. We will be working with various groups to find out the best approach if we have to.

"We discussed this very frequently at the Economic Management Team but what is the alternative?

"We haven't yet found viable alternatives, so we are not yet at the point of removing fuel subsidies."

Ahmed also stated there are plans by the Debt Management Office (DMO) to issue N15 billion Green Bond to fund agriculture, power, health and water amenities to make life better for the people, saying the Green Bond will be the second one and would be used to finance agriculture, power sector – mostly solar projects – as well as for some in the water sector.

She pointed out that the projects for which the funds will be applied, "must be green. They must be projects that are not contributing to carbon dioxide emissions to society.

"The first green bond issuance was successful and all the projects that were scheduled to have been financed have been done and the projects are at various levels of completion."

Inspector declared wanted, five officers arrested for killing woman

Posted: 14 Apr 2019 03:51 PM PDT

Policemen
There were outcries on the social media on Sunday over the killing of a 20-year-old woman by policemen in Ajegunle, Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos.

Ada Ifeanyi was shot dead at 4b, Amusa Lane, off Ojo Road, Ajegunle on Saturday morning.

The policemen also shot 32-year-old Emmanuel Akomafuwa, of 52, Babatunde Street, Olodi Apapa, at Akpiri Street, Olodi Apapa.

However, Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained five police officers involved in the dastard act.

As the command's Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Bala Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent (DSP) releases the photograph of the officers, many took to social media to demand justice for the slain women.

The officers, they said, should be tried as quickly as possible and be made to face a similar fate.

This, some said, would teach others lesson.

Donatus Igwe tweeted that the killing of innocent people by policemen is one too many.

"We cannot continue like this. We deserve a better policing that what we are getting. There is a need for psychological tests on our officers before we hand over guns to them," he said.

May Ubeku @maybeks wrote that for every Nigerian killed by the police, they are pushing Nigerians to the wall.

"They (the police) make us feel helpless and hunted. This may backfire someday and the hunter would be hunted irrespective of the guns they carry.
