Ali Baba reacts as 41-year-old comedian Volodymyr Zelensky emerges as president-elect of Ukraine

Ali Baba reacts as 41-year-old comedian Volodymyr Zelensky emerges as president-elect of Ukraine
Ukrainian comedian Volodymyr Zelensky has won a run-off election to become the country's next president by a landslide, exit polls suggest.

The polls give him more than 70% support. He dominated the first round of voting three weeks ago when 39 candidates were on the ticket. Mr Zelensky challenged incumbent president Petro Poroshenko.

Mr Poroshenko has admitted defeat but told supporters gathered in Kiev that he will not leave politics.

"I will never let you down," Mr Zelensky told supporters on Sunday.

He added: "While I am not formally president yet, as a citizen of Ukraine I can tell all post-Soviet countries: 'Look at us! Everything is possible!'"

If polls are correct, he will be elected for a five-year term. Ukraine's president holds significant powers over the security, defence and foreign policy of the country.

Mr Zelensky, 41, is best known for starring in a political satirical drama called Servant of the People in which his character accidentally becomes Ukrainian president.
He ran under a political party with the same name as his show.

With no previous political experience, his campaign focused on his difference to the other candidates rather than on any concrete policy ideas.

Despite this, he won the first round with more than 30% of the vote – almost double what Mr Poroshenko got when he finished in second place with 15.95%.

Top Nigerian comedian, Ali Baba has reacted to the news of a 41-year-old comedian becoming the president of the large country located in Eastern Europe.

Nigerian Man set to wed fiancee after it was delayed for 7 Years over accident

Nigerian Man set to wed fiancee after it was delayed for 7 Years over accident
A Nigerian man is finally set to wed his fiancee, after their decision to walk down the aisle was delayed for 7 years over a ghastly motor accident.

The accident which occurred in 2012, forced Zabrang Shehu to postpone his wedding to his partner, Rahab Mercy Yohanna who was loyal while he nursed injuries he sustained.

Facebook user, Emmanuel Junior Zakka who shared the story of the Nigerian man who is set to wed his fiancee after it was delayed for 7 years over accident, disclosed that the couple will be getting married on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the same Church where the wedding was scheduled to hold in 2012.

He wrote;

Zabrang Shehu was a U02… ABU student – that is he was admitted in the year 2002. He studied Archaeology and was the best graduating student of his class; he graduated with a very good Second Class Upper Degree (2:1). Before he gained admission to study Archeology in ABU, he attended the famous Federal College of Chemical and Leather Technology (a.k.a. Leather Research), Samaru, Zaria: the school Opposite the ABU Main Gate. There, too, he was the best graduating student with an Upper Credit and National Diploma in Leather Technology.

Expectedly, and indeed not surprisingly, Zabrang got two job offers the same year, 2012, before he suffered a setback in that ghastly motor accident that nearly claimed his life and therefore he couldn't pick either of the jobs – yes he had to forfeit them both because of his ill health.

After my National Youth Service (NYSC) in 2008, I met this lady by name Rahab Mercy Yohanna in Kaduna. We were (and still are) both members of the same Church – Living Water Anglican Church, Ungwan Pama. Before I met her, something happened. I went home in 2011 and informed my parents that my wedding would be on 28th December, 2012. That was a date I had fixed by faith because at that time I had not found the woman to marry yet. It was a faith declaration of some sort. That was on September 27, 2011, to be exact.

When I met Mercy, I told her my intentions and we agreed to pray about it. A month later we were courting. After a while we went for the usual test – phenotype, genotype and the rest. When it was confirmed that we were good to go, I then took the next step and informed my pastor, then Rev A.A. Imade (now Venerable Imade). He is now at Bagado Church. He prayed for us and asked what my intentions were and I told him I wanted to settle down. He then became my marital counsellor and he is my spiritual father even today.

Next, I took Mercy home to Gada Biyu, my home town, for my parents to see her. That was in December of 2011. At the time she was going for her Higher National Diploma, HND, at Nuhu Bamali Zaria. On Friday, 6th April, 2012, we went to the motor garage to board a car to travel to the village for proper introduction at my fiancée's place, Gora Gida. At that time I was the Youth President of my Church and a lady in my church was getting married the following day, Saturday, April 7, 2012. I was to represent the church at the wedding at Zagom. So I had programmed to attend the wedding and then head to Gora the next, Sunday, April 8, for the introduction proper.

Meanwhile at the garage in Sabon Tasha, only two people were left for the car that was loading passengers, an Opel, to get full before takeoff. As my fiancée stepped into the car, I followed suit. No sooner had I sat in that car than I felt something within me telling me not to get into that car with her. I now disembarked and told her that we were not traveling in the same car. She asked why and I told her I was sorry but my spirit was not at peace with it. I bought bread and gave her to take home for me because she would get to my house before me.

As we were having some discussion before takeoff, a friend of mine, Mr Polycarp, an Igbo guy, called and told me that he was in Kaduna with his 14-seater bus from Enugu; that we should use it to go home so that we could pick some people to accompany us for the introduction on Sunday. So my friend, Mann (Simon Marcus ), also called that he and his fiancée (now his wife with two kids) were coming from Zaria; that Polycarp had called and told him we were going together. We agreed that I would wait for them so that we go in Polycarp's bus together.

Even with the free bus, I still told my fiancée she should go ahead of me in the car she had already boarded. The last passenger came and they left. I had a strong conviction that we couldn't go together no matter what. So I waved her farewell and crossed to the other side of Sabo garage to wait for Polycarp to arrive.

Interestingly, the day, 6th April, was a 'Good Friday' and what happened later explains just how the experience of Good Friday became my own. There were passengers everywhere on that day, as people were traveling home for the Easter celebration. We then decided to pick a few passengers to fill the empty spaces in the bus since we were heading home. There was no conductor and so I was the one closing and opening the door for incoming passengers.

Something happened as we were about to start the journey. A man came from nowhere and said he must join our bus. We insisted that he wouldn't but he kept disturbing us to help him. Polycarp asked someone passengers to move to the engine side of the bus and let the man take a seat but shockingly the man demanded that he must seat where I was sitting. I couldn't believe such troublesomeness. I was angry. We were all angry because it did not make sense to any us one bit. Why should this man dictate to us what we should do in our own bus? Why should someone we agreed to help become such a dictator? Moreover, it was 'our' bus and we should be free to decide to go with him or not; so why the troubles? He kept persuading me to vacate the seat for him. In the end I agreed, howbeit reluctantly, and sat close to Mann, while he sat close to door where I was before. And then we took off.

As we started the journey, a few minutes later, as we got to Kujama, we had a tyre burst and Polycarp later narrated that he was confused when it happened and in that state of confusion he applied the brakes… You know what happens in such a scenario. Do you know what? The "troublesome" man who insisted on having, and actually had my seat, was the only one that died in that accident. The door of the car was said to have squeezed with him. You can imagine what went through my mind when I got to know it. It remains an incident I will never forget. He took my place. He exchanged his life for mine without knowing it. It was a Good Friday indeed for me! But I wish no one had died though! But seriously, God saved me.

We were rushed to St. Gerard's Catholic Hospital, Kakuri – Kaduna, at about 5.15pm. AND THAT WAS THE BEGINNING OF MY YEARS OF PREDICAMENT, AGONY AND SORROWS.

At St. Gerard's, I underwent two surgeries within the space of two weeks. I suffered what they called Pelvic Fracture Distraction Defect (PFDD), which resulted in bladder burst. I was therefore on a regular change of catheter since the bladder was on repairs. I was also using crutches because I couldn't walk unaided.

While we were at St. Gerard's, my fiancée came back from the journey – she actually cut it short after my brother, Zicham, called and informed them about the accident because she had traveled safely to the village ahead of me. RAHAB MERCY YOHANNA STOOD BY ME IN THE HOSPITAL. SHE WAS MY ANGEL. I CANNOT EXPLAIN THE KIND OF HUMAN SHE IS. MY HEART'S ONLY RESPONSE TO HER LAVISH LOVE IS GRATITUDE.

Still at St Gerard's, one fateful evening, after my second surgery, a man came into the ward where I was admitted, around 7:20pm, and made his way to my bed – two of them to be sure. They greeted me and the man whose bed was close to mine (he was lying unconscious). After that they left. All I can recall with clarity is that the man came down from his car, came towards me at the male surgical ward, greeted me and left.

I later saw a medical personnel who came and asked me if I was a relation of the Governor. I asked him the Governor he was talking about because it was funny, and he said to me "Governor Patrick Yakowa." My mother shouted, "Yakowa? Where is he?" Seriously, the man that came was Sir Patrick Yakowa of Blessed memory. He took my hospital bills and PAID ALL IN FULL. Can you see another Good Friday experience? I was then transferred to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Shika, Zaria., probably because they thought I was a relation of the Governor. Between 2012 and 2015 I underwent 6 different surgeries in all.

Back to my fiancée. She completed her HND programme and was posted to Rivers State for her National Youth Service Scheme, NYSC. She completed and came back. She told me something which struck me hard and has stuck with me ever since. She said, "God spoke to you and you saved me. And I won't have peace of mind if I run away and abandon you." She also added, "I know how I felt the day we agreed to settle down – an inner joy that I had never felt before all my life. I must make sure we complete what we have started. No matter how long it takes, no matter for how long you will be in this state, I will WAIT. I know you will recover. BE STRONG.". Those words kept me! I was determined to be back on my feet to reward this love with my own love.

Dear friends, eerything about me is grace; I am seriously a living Testimony.

Couple arrested after selling their ‘six-hour-old’ baby for N850,000 in Imo State

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 10:00 PM PDT

Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have apprehended five members of a child trafficking syndicate who allegedly sold a six-hour-old baby for N850,000 shortly after he was born.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Rabiu Ladodo, who paraded the suspects at the command's headquarters in Owerri on Saturday, described the crime as "absurd and irritating."

Ladodo said the suspects would be charged to court at the conclusion of investigation.

The CP noted that it was unbelievable that the mother of the newborn, Chinonye Oparaocha, 23, conspired with the other suspects to trade the child after delivery.

The other suspects are Confidence Anyanwu, 28; Duru Christian, 38; George Iyowuna, 38, and William Cynthia, 44.

Ladodo said the mother of the baby conspired with a nurse at the hospital where she was delivered of the baby to take the child to Rivers State, where he was trafficked for N850,000.

According to him, it took coordinated intelligence from his men for the baby to be recovered and the suspects arrested.

The CP said, "On February 8, 2019, at an undisclosed clinic on Nekede Road in the Owerri West LGA, one Chinonye Oparaocha was delivered of a baby boy.

"The woman immediately conspired with one Confidence Anyanwu, a nurse and native of Umuhu Okwuato in the Aboh Mbaise LGA, in company with her husband, Amanze Anyanwu (at large), and carried the six hours old baby to Port Harcourt in Rivers State, where one Duru Christian, was standing by."

The CP explained that at Port Harcourt, Christian in company with Iyowuna, met them and took custody of the baby.

Ladodo said, "George Iyowuna met them at their hideout, took the baby boy and handed him over to a prospective buyer, William Cynthia and her husband, who eventually paid the sum of N850,000.

"On April 13, operatives of the Scorpion Squad of the command, after diligent investigation, arrested these five suspects, including the mother of the baby and the nurse, who delivered her of the baby."

The CP said the suspects had given useful information to the police, adding that efforts were ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.

See How Nigerians Are Reacting To Tinubu Saraki Face-Off

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:39 PM PDT

Bukola Saraki and Bola Tinubu

A cross section of Nigerians have reacted to the latest face-off between the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the outgoing Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.

Tinubu had accused Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara of padding previous budgets.

In a statement, Tinubu had declared that he has no secret motive in supporting Ahmed Lawan and Femi Gbajabiamila to be the next Senate President and House Speaker, respectively.

However, Saraki warned the APC National Leader to stop treating the legislators like helpless pupils receiving orders from a cane-wielding headmaster.

The Senate President, also alleged that the political schemes and manipulations by Tinubu despite his recent denials were for his 2023 presidential ambition.

Reacting to the face-off, some Nigerians, who took to their Twitter handles, expressed their views over the war of words between the two politicians.

Some reactions below as put together by Daily Post:

@adeyanjudeji: "Just read Saraki's response to Tinubu. Saraki was practically calling Asiwaju an illiterate who knows nothing but his selfish ambition. He says the only reason why Tinubu hates him is because he stopped him from becoming Buhari's VP in 2015.

"Says the 8th NASS passed 228 Bills."

@deeoneayekooto: "On PMB 2019
"Tinubu is anti-South"-Afenifere, Ohaneze On NASS Leadership 2019
"Tinubu is Anti-North"-Arewa Youth Forum
"Tinubu is Anti-SE"-Ohaneze
"Tinubu is pursuing Anti-SW Cause"-Afenifere; that is why he is JAGABAN…..We curb him in the morning, he re-enacts in the evening…"

@ariyoaristotle: "Anytime Tinubu is losing national reckoning he turns to attacking Saraki to distract us.

"Did Saraki stop Buhari from attending Tinubu's birthday after relocating his "ditched" colloquium to Abuja?

"He should apply wisdom. Gbaja will not get it, you've been used and dumped, sir."

@TheSarakist: "Oloye is not Tinubu's mate, Oloye has surpassed Tinubu in politics, Tinubu is National Leader of the APC, Oloye is the National Leader of the PDP.

"Tinubu was Senator, Oloye is Senate President. He should leave Tinubu where Tinubu dragged himself to, the dustbin of history."

@earlobinna: "I don't know what Tinubu wants but I think he should shut his mouth and shit down somewhere else."

@toyinsinoki: "Crap talk…Everyone made decisions based on their interests and preferences you made yours and there can and must not be any problem with that! A lot of people in the SW look to Tinubu for leadership and follow his lead but quite a lot made decisions on global issues and i dare."

@duruchibuzor: "Tinubu after reading Saraki's reply will five his media aide for pushing him into embarrassing his age."

@ade_Murayn: "Tinubu don suffer sha. Any APC member that wants to work against APC always use "Tinubu bla bla bla" as an excuse. They're mad at PMB but don't have the balls to call him out on some party decisions. They'll rather hurl insults at Asiwaju."

@blomatic: "That's the kind of buffer support every president or Governor should have; it saves distraction from letter writers. GEJ's admin lacked that character, he chose Clark over Obasanjo & the game changed. Edwin Clark had no nationalistic view of issues except the "the Ijaw Nation".

@dipospeak: "let them continue, Nigeria as at the present needs a president like Tinubu after PMB, and we will support him wholeheartedly like we did for PMB in his 2 terms. who doesn't like growth? Except the selfish few who isn't seeing "flowing money" anymore. Jeunsoke Baba isale."

Tinubu Vs Saraki Faceoff: It's Unfortunate That After 22 Months In The Senate, A Man Like Tinubu Still Lacks Understanding - Saraki

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:22 PM PDT

Bola Tinubu and Bukola Saraki

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki says it is "unfortunate" that after 22 months in the legislature, Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), does "not have a better understanding of how the legislature works".

As reported by SaharaReporters on Sunday, Tinubu, had accused Saraki and Yakubu Dogara, both former members of the party, of budget padding, saying: "Just look at the way Saraki, Dogara and their ilk hijacked the budget process these past four years," he said in a statement released by Tunde Rahman, his spokesman.

"National budgets were delayed and distorted as these actors repeatedly sought to pad budgets with pet projects that would profit them. Even worse, they cut funds intended to prosper projects that would have benefitted the average person. After four years of their antics halting the progress of government, we should do all we can to prevent a repeat of their malign control of the National Assembly."

Responding in a statement by Yusuph Olaniyonu, his spokesperson, on Monday, Saraki described Tinubu's allegation as unfounded, fictitious and  an attempt to cast the leadership of the eighth National Assembly in bad light.

Saraki challenged Tinubu to substantiate his claim by making reference to where the National Assembly "sought to pad with pet projects". He described the allegation as careless, irresponsible and callous, while demanding that Tinubu should withdraw it.

"Yesterday, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu released another of his now well-expected quarterly vicious attack on the person of Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, the President of the Senate," Saraki said.

"Since we have taken it for granted that Tinubu's attack on Saraki every three months (quarterly) will come as expected, we would just have ignored his statement but for the fact that it was filled with untruth, fallacies and misrepresentations. It is unfortunate that a man like Tinubu who had been in the Senate (though for 22 months and under a military regime) should not have a better understanding of how the legislature works.

"The passage of budgets is definitely not the exclusive responsibility of the leadership of the Senate. Most of the work is done by the various committees. These committees are headed by senators representing different parties. It is the level of co-operation between the committees and the MDAs in the timely defence of the budget proposals and the ability of the two chambers of the National Assembly to reconcile their figures that usually determine how soon the budget is passed.

"So, if a man like Tinubu is spreading this falsehood about budget passage and delay being deliberately orchestrated by the National Assembly leadership, one wonders whether he tries to even understand what happens in the federal legislature at all or is that the only thing that is of interest to him is 'jockeying and maneuvering for influence', as he puts it.

"In all the three budgets already passed by the National Assembly, we challenge Tinubu to make specific reference to where Dr. Saraki and the leadership of the National Assembly 'sought to pad with pet projects' as he alleged. Tinubu should be graceful enough to substantiate this allegation."

Saraki said he is proud that the eighth assembly has records that are unmatchable by all previous senates in the sheer number of bills passed and its significance to the economy

"As a leader of the Eighth National Assembly, Dr. Saraki is proud that under his watch, the Senate has surpassed the records of all previous Senate in the number of bills passed, the significance of these bills to the revival of the economy, the fight against insecurity and corruption, improvement in the provision of health service and the education sector, as well as better social service delivery to the generality of the people," he said.

"The bills passed, motions moved, intervention made and frequent engagement with the people were all directed towards addressing the day to day issues that affect the lives of the ordinary Nigerians.

"However, Tinubu should leave Dr. Saraki out of his schemes and manipulations towards 2023. It is obvious his arbitrary and tactless interference in the process for the emergence of the leadership of the Ninth Assembly is already falling through. Our only advice for him is that if he is interested in the stability of the National Assembly, he should allow the members to elect their leadership in consultations with the party leadership."

Election Tribunal: 13 INEC Presiding Officers Say, Results Were Transmitted Electronically

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 03:53 PM PDT

INEC Chairman

No fewer than a dozen people who said they were deployed as electoral officers by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the 2019 presidential election have admitted under oath that they transmitted results electronically.

A question about whether or not results were forwarded to a central database of the commission has been amongst the top grounds for contesting the presidential election results by Atiku Abubakar and his opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Abubakar was the main challenger to President Muhammadu Buhari at the February 23 elections.

On February 27, the electoral umpire declared Mr Buhari winner of the elections, and issued him a certificate of return for a second four-year term starting May 29.

Mr Abubakar and his PDP challenged the results at the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal last month, saying he won the election and was in possession of evidence that would upturn the declared outcome.

Mr Abubakar's legal team submitted a different result to the tribunal, which showed the former vice-president as the winner of the election. The result showed Mr Abubakar had scored 18,356,732 votes to defeat Buhari, whom they said received 16,741,430 votes.

This contradicted the results declared by INEC, which said Mr Buhari received 15,191,847 votes against Mr Abubakar's 11,262,978 votes.

Mr Abubakar's lawyers said the results were released by an INEC whistleblower who had access to the commission's internal server and other tools throughout the election.

They also provided unique identification information of computers that they said belonged to INEC, which they expected experts from Microsoft, IBM and Oracle to corroborate.
Denial

In its initial response to Mr Abubakar's petition, INEC strongly denied operating a server during the election, saying such activities were not permitted by the electoral law. The commission accused Mr Abubakar of circulating fake results for the purpose of his petition.

Mr Buhari and his ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) also sided with the electoral umpire and alleged criminal interception of a public institution's communication by Mr Abubakar and the PDP.

In a response to INEC's denial of the server and its purported result, Mr Abubakar's legal team attached affidavits from 12 persons they said worked for INEC.
Mr. Atiku Abubakar

The persons, according to the affidavits, said they worked as presiding officers and assistant presiding officers in Borno and Yobe. They were only identified in the documents by their initials, but a source close to Mr Abubakar told PREMIUM TIMES the witnesses will ultimately identify themselves in court.

The witnesses comprise seven presiding officers and five assistant presiding officers. They were six each from Borno and Yobe, and swore they were adequately recruited and trained by the commission ahead of the election.

"We were specifically instructed that the use of the smart card reader for accreditation, verification, authentication, collation
and transmission of results is mandatory and that any election conducted without the use of the smart card reader would be invalid.

"I took part in the conduct of the Presidential and National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) elections…where I served as the presiding officer (PO) and I ensured the use of the smart card reader for accreditation, verification, authentication, collation and transmission of votes in my polling unit.

"At the end of voting, the information on the smart card reader, the results inclusive were collated by me in the presence of the party agents and other ad-hoc staff of the 1st respondent after which my assistant presiding officer (AP0-1) transmitted the result electronically in my presence to INEC's server using the smart card reader and the code provided by the commission," a typical testimony from one of the witnesses read.

The wording of the affidavits was identical. Assistant presiding officers also swore they sent the results to a designated INEC server.
YIAGA

Meanwhile, the Youth Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Advancement (YIAGA) said its observers saw polling officers 'attempting' to transmit results electronically in 65 per cent (961 of 1489) of polling units observed on the presidential election day.

The group's director, Samson Itodo, said the data only captured polling officers who made attempts to transmit results using smart card readers. It could not confirm whether or not the transmissions were successful.

A spokesperson for INEC declined comments to PREMIUM TIMES about the comments of the presiding officers and their assistants.

The officers are usually deployed for elections on ad-hoc basis, and most of them were not the commission's employees.

An election expert and director at one of the main election observer groups told PREMIUM TIMES some results were transmitted via the smart card readers, but were only designed to aggregate results from across the country.

"There were some polling units whose card readers were used to transmit results on election day for aggregation," the expert said under anonymity because of his closeness to the commission and also to avoid publicly commenting on a matter already in court.

He suggested that INEC's outright denial of electronic transmission of results could be because neither the electoral law nor its guidelines made provisions for electronic transmission of results.

"The law and the guidelines allowed only manual transmission in all the stages of the results collation," the expert said. "That may be why the commission decided to deny using electronic means for its own internal compilation."

He said only the court could hold INEC responsible for any discrepancy in its internal results and what the commission declared to the public.

Laura Ikeji’s husband Ogbonna Kanu dragged by Internet troll says he is not responsible for her upkeep

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:45 AM PDT

An internet troll recently dragged Ogbonna Kanu who happens to be Laura Ikeji's husband. The person in question blasted him after he posted a picture of his wife admiring a bag which she probably intended to buy.

Kanu who was sort of complimenting the picture posted it on his Instagram page and captioned it with the words "Bags again".

By these words, he most likely meant that he could not believe his wife's intense love for bags. He clearly was in awe of how she easily went for this accessory without giving it much of a thought.

The troll whose name on Instagram is took this statement to heart and used the caption as a sheer opportunity to drag Kanu.

See the post below:

Following the posting of the picture, the troll commented that Laura was not spending Ogbonna's money in the first place.

Hence, he had no right to complain. By means of insinuation, the troll also said that it was because of this same reason that Laura could behave anyhow she wanted without getting a sanction from him.

Young woman born with no arms & knees finally meets the love of her life

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:39 AM PDT

Jlissa Austin, 30, from Houston, Texas, stands at just three feet four inches tall and says she thought she was destined to be alone, until she met the love of her life, Johnathon Shorter.

The entrepreneur, who runs her own weave company, has defied all the odds stacked against her even learning to type and brush her teeth with her toes:

A woman born with no arms, knees and just seven toes who was told she wouldn't make her 18th birthday has revealed her joy at planning her wedding.

Jlissa Austin, 30, from Houston, Texas, stands at just three feet four inches tall and says she thought she was destined to be alone, until she met the love of her life, Johnathon Shorter.

The entrepreneur, who runs her own weave company, has defied all the odds stacked against her even learning to type and brush her teeth with her toes.

And the happy couple say they're just like any other, with Jlissa's disabilities not affecting their love life.

Jlissa and Johnathan, who is a five foot six inch-tall able-bodied man, share an apartment together in Houston and are currently planning their dream wedding for the summer.

Jlissa said: 'Me and Johnathan are very good together. We're so in tune.

'I didn't think it would ever happen to me – meeting someone like this. It feels so good to know that Johnathan is by my side.

'When people see us walking around together, some of them shake Johnathan's hand and say "I salute you, you're doing a good job". But we don't experience issues with people judging our relationship too much thankfully.

'We're both really looking forward to our wedding, now.'

Johnathan mainly helps Jlissa with eating, getting in and out of cars and reaching things that are too high for her in their apartment.

3) University of Sussex: Master of Science Information Technology with Business and Management.
4) Cranfield University: MSc Management and Information Systems.

The Elated Young Woman said ;

Relevance has always been a measure of one's value and to add value to ones life, one must pursue interest and goals with vigour.

My name is Franka Anyama Undie a Cross River State indigene.

I grew up in a family where we have to compete for everything, — _compete for who was the best in academics, House chores and board games_ .

I developed a passion for technology, business, management, arithmetic and record computation which led me to studying Accountancy as my first degree.

During my degree program, I was very active in many facets of University life. I completed a number of voluntary internship on holidays, working for small business owners.

This gave me an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting.

I also conducted a number of personal community development projects like organizing free ICT training, giving motivational talks in colleges, organizing health campaigns and bringing together a team to ensure environmental sanitation is properly carried out in my community.

Interestingly, none of these community development services hindered my educational pursuit as I bagged a second class upper upon graduation.

I believe that anything one dreams of, there is just a helper away, we just need the right scenario and connection, and anything can be achieved.

With determination and the right people to encourage you and guide you, one can achieve a great amount of success that will bring a positive change to the society.

I continually aspire growth and development which is why I applied and got admissions into eleven different schools for the 2019/2020 academic session.

I wanted to make sure I am the best. I wanted to prove to myself that I was worthy enough and anyone who wants to help me actualize my life's goal will also see in me the same potentials I see in myself – _Determination and excellence_ .

Out of all the courses I feel so passionate about _the Masters of Science Information Technology with Business and Management_ offered at University of Sussex, maybe because of what it encompasses and how it accurately fits into my career goals and ambitions.

My desire to study abroad stems from a dearth of equivalent professional programs offered in Nigeria. The future of technology, business, appropriate data management and financial reports in Nigeria will demand a workforce with a specialized skill set.

With the sponsorship which I seek, I will be able to actualize my academic/career goal and dream of acquiring the requisite academic training which would position me to meet this emerging career/workplace demand and also pioneer the architecture, management and protection of business and companies in Nigeria.

Breaking: Appeal Court fixes April 24 for hearing of Osun gov dispute

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:19 AM PDT

Ademola Adeleke and Adegboyega Oyetola
The Court of Appeal in Abuja has scheduled hearing for April 24 in the appeals filed by the Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the March 22, 2019 by the Osun State Governorship Election Tribunal.

Information about the hearing date is contained in notices sent to parties by the court's Registry, a copy of which The Nation sighted on Monday in Abuja.

The tribunal, in a split decision of two-to-one, voided the victory of Oyetola and the APC in the election held on September 22, 2018, but concluded with a rerun on September 27, 2018.

Two members of the tribunal's three-member panel upheld the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate Senator Ademola Adeleke against the outcome of election, while its chairman dismissed it for being unmeritorious.

Justices Peter Obiorah and Adegboye Gbolagunte gave the majority decision, which replaced Oyetola and APC with Adeleke and PDP as winners of the election.

The tribunal Chairman, Justice Muhammad Sirajo, in his dissenting judgment/minority decision, held otherwise.

He dismissed the petition by Adeleke and PDP on the grounds that the petitioners failed to prove their claims.

In the separate notices of appeal they filed against the tribunal's majority judgment, Oyetola and the APC ripped the judgment apart, arguing that "it is perverse, replete with contradictions and against the weight of evidence."

The want the Court of Appeal to uphold their appeals, set aside the majority judgment and dismiss the October 16, 2018 petition by Adeleke and the PDP.

Oyetola and the APC said they were contesting the entire majority judgment, except where it held that it lacked jurisdiction to set aside the INEC Guidelines used for the election; that the allegation of over voting was not proved; that the petitioners did not prove voided votes, and other parts of the judgment where it agreed with their arguments.

They queried the validity of the judgment, which was authored and delivered by Justice Obiorah, who they noted, did not participate in all the sittings of the tribunal during trial.

The appellants are of the view that the entire of the majority judgment is a nullity, because it was written and delivered by Justice Obiorah "who did not participate in all the proceedings of the tribunal and who was not present when all the witnesses gave evidence."

They noted that Justice Obiorah was absent on February 6, 2019  when the respondents witnesses (RWs) 12 and 13 – Ayoola Soji and Oladejo Kazeem – testified and tendered exhibits, which the tribunal admitted in evidence.

The appellants are contending that, having not attended the tribunal's siting on February 6, 2019, Justice Obiorah did not see the two witnesses and was unable to examine their demeanour, as required, and therefore, it was unlawful for the judge to have authored a judgment in which he reviewed the evidence given by the witnesses.

In the notice of appeal filed for Oyetola by his lawyer, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), it was argued that: "The writing of and or the participation of the Honourable Justice P. C. Obiorah in the writing of the judgment of the lower tribunal of 22nd March 2019 and delivery of same, vitiates the entire judgment."

Oyetola and the APC faulted the decision of the tribunal, in the majority judgment, to declare the rerun election unlawful and proceeded to set it aside.

They also faulted the tribunal's finding that the respondents did not deny the claim by the petitions, through PW74, that the Returning Officer cancelled election in the seven polling units and ordered a rerun.

The appellants said: "The first and third respondents (INEC and APC), in their pleadings, did not admit that it was the Returning Officer that cancelled the result of the election in the seven polling units, but rather, that it was the 1st respondent that cancelled the election in the seven units as distinct from the units' results.

"Indeed, as pleaded at paragraphs 24, 25, 27 and 29 of the petition, it was the 1st respondent that cancelled the election in the seven units for the reasons alleged by the petitioners.

"The tribunal ought to have held the petitioners bound by their pleadings that it was the 1st respondent that cancelled the election in the units and the fact that the 3rd respondent also pleaded that it was the 1sy respondent that cancelled the election in the units."

They argued that even if it was any of the electoral officials that announced the cancellation and rerun election, in law, they acted as INEC's agents of the first respondent (INEC).

The appellants noted that the petitioners did not only fail to tender results from the seven polling units to support their claim that election actually held in the polling units and the results were cancelled;  they also failed to exhibit the votes scored  by the parties that participated in the election, if actually their was an election.

Oyetayo and APC argued that, rather than holding against the petitioners, for not supplying the necessary evidence, the tribunal wrongly relied on the evidence of PW74, which it had earlier expunged from the record for being hearsay.

They argued that, in the absence of vital evidence, "the tribunal ought to have held that the petitioners did not make out the case that there was any election in the seven polling units and that the Returning Officer cancelled the results of the election in the seven units."

AI-powered smart companion,rAInbow recognised by UN

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 06:17 AM PDT

Sage Foundation
Sage has announced that AI-powered smart companion, rAInbow, has won a UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Netexplo Award.

Founding partner Sage Foundation worked with AI for Good and the Soul City Institute for Social Justice to develop rAInbow. It is an artificial intelligence (AI) powered smart companion supporting victims of domestic violence in South Africa.

Accessed via Facebook Messenger, rAInbow democratises access to information and support for victims of domestic violence, their friends and their family. It provides a safe space for those at risk of entering controlling relationships, including victims and survivors of domestic violence, to access information about their rights, support options and where they can find help – in friendly, simple language.

During development, Sage Foundation gathered close to one hundred true stories in face to face meetings with women who have experienced domestic abuse. These true stories allow rAInbow to present recognisable scenarios and to interact in a conversational way. The result has been engagement rates four times higher than the industry average.

Netexplo is an independent observatory that studies the impact of digital technology on society and business. The Netexplo Innovation Forum, in partnership with UNESCO, showcase 10 breakthrough digital innovations from a pool of 2,000 spotted by a global network of leading universities.

Sage Foundation VP, Debbie Wall adds: "rAInbow exemplifies the beneficial possibilities of AI, by opening conversations victims often don't want to have with a real person.

"This integration of community service and tech innovation sits neatly within our global programme of corporate philanthropy, for which one of our key pillars is supporting women. It's particularly important to us given that South Africa has one of the highest femicide rates in the world. I wholeheartedly thank the UNESCO Netexplo team for recognising the value of this innovation."

The award was accepted by Kriti Sharma, VP of AI at Sage and Founder of AI for Good, at the Netexplo Innovation Forum 2019 hosted at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, from 17 to 19 April.

"We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award. It validates our belief that we can use technology to solve social challenges like domestic violence. The award also acknowledges that when technologists and non-technologists come together to solve a problem, they can make a massive impact in the world," says Sharma.

Buratai says Boko Haram activities now restricted

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 05:38 AM PDT

Troops
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, says the Boko Haram terrorists are being contained with the recent renewed joint military offensive against them in Northern Borno and border areas.

Buratai said the offensive had pushed them to the remote Islands on the Lake Chad basin.

Represented by Maj.-Gen. Lamidi Adeosun, the Chief of Training and Operations, the chief of army staff disclosed this in an interview with newsmen at Monguno in Borno North after celebrating the Easter with troops.

He said the containment of the terrorists was made possible by joint operations by troops of the Lake Chad Basin countries, including the Multinational Joint Task Force – MNJTF.

"You will discover that the Boko Haram terrorists are now lurking around the borders, especially the dangerous and inaccessible areas of the Tumbun and Islands (of Lake Chad).''

"And the best way to handle them is to have concentration of forces,'' he said.

On the ongoing joint operations between Nigerian and Chadian troops in Northern Borno, Buratai said that the coming of the Chadians had given a boost to troops and equipment concentration in the area.

He said that this was necessary to route the terrorists from their hiding places in the Islands.

Earlier, while addressing troops of Sector 3 of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Buratai expressed satisfaction that they had turned the tide against the terrorists, adding that it was no longer business for them as usual.

"I urge you not to relent; you must continue to heat the iron now that our iron is very, very red so that we can beat the iron to the shape that we all like.

"You must maintain the momentum; we must never ever allow the reverse to be the case again. Now that we are moving, we must continue to move.

"Now, we are pursuing, we must continue to pursue, we are on the offensive, we should never withdraw to defensive position.

"You must remain bold and continue to do all that it takes to take the power, life and breath out of Boko Haram,'' the army chief charged the troops.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Buratai also visited the Chadian troops deployed alongside their Nigerian counterparts for a joint operation at Cross Kauwa, the Headquarters of Sector 2 of Operation Lafiya Dole.

In an address, he commended them for their zeal, courage and commitment, saying that they were not only working for the safety of Nigeria and their country, but humanity.

He described the Chadian troops as brave soldiers, and assured them that their requirement in terms of logistics would be provided.

While he prayed for the repose of soul of personnel among them that had paid the supreme sacrifice, he also prayed for quick recovery of those wounded in action.

Col. Bokit Ali Dijar, the Commander of Chadian troops in the sector, expressed happiness that countries in the Lake Chad basin were working in unity to tackle the Boko Haram menace which he described as a common enemy.

Ali Dijar thanked Buratai for the visit, saying that they were honoured by the gesture.

He also lauded the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj.-Gen. Benson Akinroluyo and Brig.-Gen. O.T. Akinjobi, the Commander Sector 3, for always meeting their request.

NAN also reports that on April 18, troops of the MNJTF killed 39 Boko terrorists, captured many equipment from them as they attempted to attack military position at Cross Kauwa.

Cross Kauwa is located in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno.

Between December 2018 and January 2019 a faction of Boko Haram led by Al Barnawi and Islamic State West African Province or ISWAP infiltrated Baga and surrounding towns, including Cross Kauwa and attacked military positions.

They were, however, pushed out by sustained ground and air offensives after a few days.

Daddy Freeze – 'God is not with Pastor Adeboye and his son'
Controversial media personality Daddy Freeze is of the opinion that God is not with the G.O of RCCG, Pastor Adeboye.

Freeze made this known while reacting to the story of a young lady who had reached out to Adeboye's son following the death of her brother.

The pastor's son had asked that the woman use an anointing oil and handkerchief to wipe the corpse, then take the corpse to the alter adding that if God wants the young man alive, he will be resurrected in one hour.
Reacting to this story, Freeze slammed the pastor and his son.

He wrote;

Verified
May his soul Rest In Peace…. Adeboye, his son or their altar have no power to resurrect and I'm of the firm opinion that God isn't with them. ~FRZ

Why Southwest should present House Speaker, by Lagos representative

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:42 AM PDT

James Faleke
A MEMBER of the House of Representatives, James Faleke, is of the view that All Progressives Congress (APC) members from the Northcentral should not contest the party's decision to zone the House Speaker's position to the Southwest.

Faleke, who is representing Lagos (Ikeja Federal Constituency), argued that the party's leadership was in order by micro-zoning the slot to the Southwest.

He added that the region has offered one of its best – Femi Gbajabiamila – for the position.

According to him, it is incontrovertible that Gbajabiamila, who is the House Leader, has what it takes to pilot the affairs of the Green Chamber, having served for a record four terms.

Faleke was reacting to the agitations of some groups from the Northcentral that the region should be allowed to fill the nation's number three position, going by the zone's contribution to the APC electoral fortune in this year's general election.

The Lagos lawmaker argued that the Northcentral has never been short-changed in the sharing of National Assembly's leadership.

For instance, he said the zone has tasted the Senate President's slot for 12 years in the ongoing republic and that Senator's Iyorcha Ayu and Ame Ebute, who served in the defunct Third Republic, are from the Northcentral.

"Since the beginning of this present dispensation, Senator David Mark, from Benue, was Senate President between 2007 and 2011. The incumbent Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is from Kwara State, also from the Northcentral. So, 12 out of 20 years has gone to the Northcentral alone in this political dispensation."

According to him, the first time the Southwest ever tasted leadership positions in the National Assembly was when Mrs Patricia Olubunmi-Etteh and Dimeji Bankole served as House of Representatives Speakers.

"The duo shared four years between 2007 and 2011. The fact that the Office of the Vice President is presently occupied by the Southwest in the person of Prof Yemi Osinbajo, should not be advanced to block the region. The argument is different. The executive is not the same thing as the legislature.

"What is important is the competence of who is being put forward for the exalted office. We are confident that Gbajabiamila will not let the nation down. He will lead a quality House of Representatives that will be a pride to all."

Faleke said that the lower chamber of the National Assembly cannot afford to disappoint the electorate, assuring that the House, in maintaining its independence, will not present itself as a cog in the wheel of progress

"The country has come to accept that the political and leadership structure of the country is divided into two: North and South. We now have the President in the North, Senate President in the North, Dogara from the North, Head of Judiciary from the North, Chief of Army and Police from the North and now we agitate that the South should produce Speaker for the 9th Assembly.

"I will thus appeal to my colleagues from the North Central to be Nation builders and be very fair and thus support the Southwest.

"Gbajabiamila will ensure that the smooth relationship between executive and legislative to ensure that our constituents benefits from government and in fulfillment of our electioneering promises."

Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom: How Pastor Adeboye and wife made me Governor of Benue state

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:30 AM PDT

Ortom: How Pastor Adeboye and wife made me Governor of Benue state
The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has shared his experience on how the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, ensured he emerged victorious at the 2019 governorship election in his state.

Governor Ortom who shared his testimony during the April edition of the church Holy Ghost congress held at the redemption camp on Friday, said he sought for the prayers of Pastor Adeboye and Mrs Folu Adeboye before contesting and emerging victorious in the 2015 governorship poll.

He said: When i wanted to contest for the 2015 election, i came to the Redemption Camp to pray and i went to Daddy and Mummy G.O. They prayed for me and despite all the challenges that accompanied the race, i became the governor and i was sworn in.

Recall that Governor Ortom defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People's Democratic Party on the 25th of July, 2018.

On giving his reasons why he left APC, Ortom said: "I recall that i had issues with the leader of the APC in Benue State and while the national leadership of the party was trying to resolve it, the party in the state embarked on aggressive campaign of calumny against me. It is on that note that i tender my resignation letter to my ward chairman of APC."

Ortom however, revisited the issue by affirming that he encountered challenges prior to the 2019 governorship election in Benue state.

He said: "In 2017, challenges came over me and i said i was not going to contest again in 2019, let me remain a one-term governor. The following day during my devotion, God asked me why i had decided to be a lone ranger. He assured me He is the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega.

"I picked up the courage, came to the altar and Daddy G. O. again. He prayed for me.

"But so many challenges came as we went through the race and there was this particular day before the election that Daddy GO called me when i was completely depressed and did not know what to do.

"After the prayer, we were encouraged again and went through the race. Again, despite all the challenges, God saw me through and i was elected the Governor of Benue State again. Praise be to the Lord."

Ohanaeze youths canvass for Igbo House of Reps Speaker

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:27 AM PDT

The youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has cautioned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) against side-lining the Igbo in the sharing of principal offices of the National Assembly.

Ohanaeze Youths said: "It is a big insult and an affront to the Igbo nation that the Southeast is not in the consideration of APC for any key principal position in the Ninth National Assembly leadership."

The group spoke through its Deputy National Youth Leader, Dr. Kingsley Dozie.

It frowned at the non-inclusion of the Southeast on the list of zones to produce the presiding officers for the Ninth National Assembly.

Ohanaeze Youths said it was aware that the APC leadership, backed by the Presidency, had endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan (Northeast) for Senate President and Femi Gbajabiamila (Southwest) for the Speaker House of Representatives.

It added: "We query the justification in zoning the presiding officers of the National Assembly to regions that already have a fair share.

"We contend that since the President and Vice-President came from the North and the Southwest, justice and equity demand that either the Senate President or Speaker of the House of Representatives should come from the Southeast.

"Since APC has already zoned the Senate Presidency to the Northeast and the Deputy to the Southsouth, the Southeast should be allowed to produce the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

"If they say we have no ranking senator from their party, will they also say we don't have qualified APC members in the House of Representatives, where one of them is returned for the fourth term in the name of Mrs Onyejeocha?

"Nigeria stands on the tripod of Igbo, Hausa and Yoruba, hence the distribution of political offices should reflect this equilibrium without excluding any tribe.

"APC's orchestrated plans to exclude the Southeast from the Nigerian Project and power bloc will be resisted and any attempt to relegate Ndigbo to the background would not succeed.

"The Ndigbo are not visitors in Nigeria and not second class in the Nigerian Project. We cannot be treated as such. We are not slaves and can never be. Nigeria belongs to us all and this is a fact everybody must learn to live with.

"We urge members of the National Assembly to cede the Speakership position to the South East to foster unity and National cohesion."

Also, the member representing Estako Federal Constituency in Edo State, Johnson Oghuma, has said the next Speaker of the House of Representatives will come from the South.

Oghuma, who was re-elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said there was no need exchanging fireworks with the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since the ruling party has the numbers to produce the Speaker.

The lawmaker addressed reporters in Auchi after distributing empowerment items to 800 residents of his constituency.

He said the Eighth National Assembly dominated by the PDP was an obstacle to the Executive, thereby frustrating developmental plans of President Muhammadu Buhari's administration.

Oghuma said the incoming Ninth National Assembly will ensure harmonious relationship between the Executive and the Legislature to fast-track good governance for the Nigerians.

He said: "Nigerian should expect things to be different this time round. You know it is not too long that I went to the House. I was voted into the National Assembly in February 17, 2017. I discovered that members of my party at the Senate and the House of Representatives were problems to the APC-led government at the centre.

"The Ninth Assembly will collaborate with the Executive. Our role is complementary. No one is an island. We are supposed to work together to give the desire results that Nigerians are yearning for. Our people are suffering.

"President Buhari meant so well for our people; he is not stealing our money. He believes that the people should have what they are entitled to. That is why we will support him and the Judiciary to succeed."

He said beneficiaries have received training in fishery, tailoring, welding, solar power repairs and installation, cosmetology, CCTV installation and repairs, as well as aluminium fabrication.

Govt deploys JTF in Ekiti-Kwara border

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:16 AM PDT

Joint Task Force
Ekiti State Government has ordered the deployment of military Joint Task Force patrol in the town sharing border with Kwara State.

The squad was constituted to curtail the overbearing influence of suspected bandits.

Some suspected herdsmen last Tuesday besieged a farmstead called Eda, at Iyemero in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State. They shot two persons and raided houses during the midnight attack.

Those shot by the assailants, including a seven-year-old boy, later died in hospital.

This prompted Governor Kayode Fayemi to seek military intervention to prevent further carnage at the border town.

The Olu of Iyemero-Ekiti, Oba Ebenezer Ogungbemi, hailed the governor for his quick and tactical intervention, saying this was a reflection of a responsive and people-centred government.

The monarch and members of his council, in a letter dated April, 20, 2019 and addressed to Governor Fayemi, said the effort of military and local hunters would annihilate the suspected killer-herders and restore peace to the community.

In a copy of the letter made available to reporters in Ado- Ekiti yesterday, Oba Ogungbemi said the community would help the soldiers with sensitive information to stem the rate of killings.

He said about 60 persons displaced from their houses, who took refuge in his palace for three days, had returned home due to Governor Fayemi's intervention.

The letter reads: "We are thankful to Governor Fayemi for deploying military joint task force to restore tranquility to Iyemero, which has guaranteed peaceful coexistence among the residents.

"The Olu-in-Council and the entire people of Iyemero-Ekiti wish to express our deepest and  heartfelt  gratitude to the governor for his prompt response during last week's insurgency, which led to death, maiming, displacement, chaos and disturbance of peace in our town.

"With the support and assurances of Mr. Governor, we are convinced that lasting peace is in sight and we are protected from the yet-to-be-identified assailants and terrorists.

"We are happy to inform you that the displaced farmers had returned to their farmstead."

The monarch said the governor had built the foundation of trust and confidence in the residents by approving the construction of a police station at Iyemero, which will provide safety for our people and ward off criminals from the boundary community."

Oba Ogungbemi said the hunters had started receiving instructions on the need to be conventional in approach and refrain from any action that could portray them as being vindictive against any ethnic group.

"This military deployment won't stop us from being security conscious. We are not unaware that the military can only discharge their duties effectively when they are provided with information they can work on.

"We are looking inward to ensure that saboteurs have no room to operate, so that the operation targeted at curtailing these blood-sucking bandits can be successful," he said.

The monarch thanked the governor for being magnanimous towards the injured by paying their hospital bills.

How internet users can be protected from cybercrime, by NCC

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 04:07 AM PDT

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has stressed the need for the over 114 million internet users in the country to show interests in getting constant enlightenment to ensure proper protection against cybercrime.

NCC Director, Consumer Affairs Bureau, Mrs. Felicia Onwuegbuchulam, in Lagos yesterday, spoke of the  need for awareness programmes where consumers were informed on the dangers of cybercrimes.

Mrs. Onwuegbuchulam said that such programmes would ensure that internet users learnt and observed skills through which they could be protected while on the internet.

In a statement, she said that the commission recently held the 47th edition of its monthly Consumer Town Hall Meeting (CTM) in Abia, where it discussed cyber space issues.

According to her, cyber space covers everything consumers do online or with computing devices, including mobile phones, tablets and personal computers.

She said: "The internet touches almost all aspects of human lives. There is, therefore, need for the consumers to show interests in getting constant enlightenment and be conscious of fraudulent tendencies by some internet users while online.

"As at February this year, there are over 114 million internet users in the country, with over 63 million of them accessing broadband services on 3G and 4G networks.

"The need to constantly educate is further underscored by the large numbers of Nigerians online, with even more to come online.

"The commission is intensifying efforts towards implementing its various initiatives aimed at deepening connectivity across the nooks and crannies of Nigeria.

"As access to internet increases, the dimension of cyber-criminal activities is also becoming more sophisticated."

The NCC director urged consumers to take the skills learnt through consumer engagement programmes very seriously and apply them, in order to be safe on the cyber space.

Mrs. Onwuegbuchulam said that the liberalisation of the telecommunications industry in 2001 led to an unprecedented growth in the usage and dependence on internet-based solutions, services and applications.

According to her, as the internet is being used for legitimate, positive engagements, some individuals also use it for criminal activities in the cyber space.

She, however, said that aside the continuous monthly consumer enlightenment programmes, the commission had also initiated a process to establish an Internet Industry Code of Practice for Internet Service.

The director said: "The Internet Code is a regulatory intervention that will help to secure the country's cyber space against imminent threats from cyber attackers.

"It will also address such issues as online child protection, privacy and data protection, contents, among others.''

According to the SUG president, the car park would be known as President Muhammadu Buhari Car Park/Bus Stop or PMB Square for short.

Also, two shed stands were named after the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Kolawole Salako and a former student leader, Late Rt. Hon Oluwafisayomi Adelaja.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the event, Popoola expressed his happiness over the completion of the project adding that it is a dream come true.

He added that the car park will salvage one of the problems affecting the institution.

"This is going to be a welcome development because we have just been able to salvage one of the problems affecting the university, which is a key factor to the growth of the university.

"What we have just done is, one of its kind which is a landmark in the history of students' unionism and we have not had any regret for embarking on this project."

Before cutting the ribbon, the Vice Chancellor appreciated the students and the executives of the union for their good conduct, which has led to the achievement of this feat.

Salako also described the project as one which will alleviate the suffering of the students while waiting for vehicles after lectures on a daily basis.

"It is going to be a lot of relieve for commercial vehicles plying from Gate to the Campus and definitely people are going to have a space to sit while waiting for vehicles, the commercial vehicles will also be relieved having a conducive environment to really do their work," he said. "This project will go a long way in term of community relationships."

The student leader had also disclosed that the naming was done to appreciate the efforts of Federal Government led by President Buhari in various sectors, and especially on the dualisation of Camp-Alabata road leading to the main campus.

The road, which he said had been abandoned for years until recently is now getting some attention from the government.

"Our decision was based on the fact that we appreciate the efforts of Federal Government led by President Buhari on the anti corruption crusade, economy and security nationwide as well as the dualization of Camp-Alabata road leading to main campus.

Such an impeccable individual like President Buhari deserve to be honoured by FUNAAB Student Union," SUG President Popoola added.

He took pride in being the first to honour President Buhari on the FUNAAB campus while challenging the government to improve attention given to the university with additional funding towards addressing food insecurity and other transformative ideas driven by technology.

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 03:50 AM PDT

Uwani Danjuma
A 30-year-old man, Uwani Danjuma, has killed his wife for planning to remarry after his death.

The incident occurred at Uddu village in Rijau Local Government Area of Niger State.

Danjuma said his wife had told him when he was ill that if he died, she would remarry.

Angered by those words, he said he attacked and killed his wife with a cutlass when he became well.

Confessing to the crime, the suspect said his wife was sleeping when he killed her, adding that he deliberately killed her because of her comment.

"I can't imagine my own wife telling me that if I die, she will remarry. I became angry and inflicted injuries on her neck with a machete, which led to her death.

"I don't regret killing her, since she wanted me to die. I killed her so that she would not remarry. She should not have said that to my hearing. There is power in spoken words. So let her go. Allah will send her to hell for that unguarded statement," Danjuma said.

Police spokesman Mohammad Abubakar said the suspect was arrested following a tip-off, adding that he had confessed to the crime.

He said the injury the suspect inflicted on the deceased led to her death, adding that he would be charged to court.
