Ways to make sure your relationship does not get boring

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 11:30 PM PDT

No one really wants attention that does not last, or interest that is not sustained, especially from someone they fancy.
Whether before or after a relationship begins, it expected that you would not want your crush/partner's interest in you to reduce or worse, disappear after a while.

While you may not have complete control over what he or she will ultimately do, there are some things you can do on your part to create a conducive environment for love to grow and for affection and attraction to remain, and even grow over time.

Below we list some of those things:

Be consistent
What were you doing that attracted them to you? Don't stop doing those things! That's pretty much the long and short of consistence in romantic relationships.

If someone falls in love with you for something, it would be mad unfair to get them into a relationship and quit doing those things. It would not be a surprise if such partner loses interest in being with you after a while.

Don't be monotonous
Consistence is good, monotony is not. So if you were really sweet to your partner before the relationship began or even at the very beginning of it, you have to keep being sweet – that is consistence.

If you keep expressing the sweetness in the same way or format at all times, however, that is monotony and that is not so good.

Look for newer, more creative ways to do the things your partner loves you doing. That's pretty much what we're talking about here.

Allow each other time out
That you are in love with someone does not mean they have to be with you at all times, or that you have to be chatting with each other every single minute of the day, or that they can't keep friendships or grow in other aspects of their lives.

Allow each other live fully and experience bliss in other facets of life apart from the relationship. It enriches your lives, gives you a fuller experience and makes you better lovers with healthier relationships.

Noble Igwe reacts to Victoria Kimani & Tiwa Savage stand-off

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 11:00 PM PDT

Noble Igwe reacts to Victoria Kimani & Tiwa Savage stand-off
Nigerian socialite and media entrepreneur, Noble Igwe has reacted to the stand-off between Victoria Kimani and Tiwa Savage.

Recall that Kimani, the Kenyan singer, had in her #fuckyouchallenge video attacked the single mother, calling her all sorts of unprintable names.

Reacting, Noble Igwe said that Kimani is just jealous and pained at Tiwa's success.

He tweeted:

A lot of artist can win alongside Tiwa Savage but first, you have to admit that she's the best right now. If you are that good, nobody can stop your bag. Please explain to me, which female artist will promoters rather have than Tiwa? Like If you have a show and need to bag gate ? Show promoters can have 40 male acts but it's Tiwa that will stop them from putting you on the show?

Tiwa Savage maybe goes a step further by asking the public not like your new music too? Wait, Tiwa then missed Temi from the list of female acts she penciled down to stop their Cheque. When Tiwa Savage went off to have her baby, who took the space or she told the public not to let anyone move into the space?

If any show promoters ever told you that Tiwa stopped him from putting you on a gig, the person does not rate you. If you are needed and have anything to offer, no one can stop you and the street will always request for you. Tell your favs to get into the studio and work on their craft, I don't understand how it's okay to be having an afternoon bath in Tiwa Savage's sweat. The public are the ones that says who's hot and by that, demands who a promoter puts on a show.

Dear @TiwaSavage , please put out another #FuckYouChallenge video but in this one, just stay drinking tea while the beat plays in the background. I guess we now have to agree that Victoria Kimani is just jealous, pained and really over her head. She really posted Tiwa's car ? Nah

Every important thing to know about sex before dating anyone

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 10:30 PM PDT

Every important thing to know about sex before dating anyone
In this article, we list all the important things every man should know before going into a relationship with any woman.

In a previous article, we have listed all the things women need to know before dating any man. And it does not matter that the relationship is going to be a celibate one. You just need to know these basic things.

In this article, we list all the things men should know before going into a relationship with any woman. And not to worry; even if you are dating already, this knowledge is still useful for you.

1. Consent is everything
Guys, the most important thing to note in this mini sex education is that no is always no. No is not a coded word for yes. If you threatened your partner to get a yes, it's rape. If you subtly or overtly pressured or used your position to subject someone to say yes,

When she says no, leave her alone even if you know she's used to playing games. An accusation of rape accusation or the actual act is not something you want to joke with.

When she says no, take it as no.

3. You don't need to date to get sex
On the flipside, sex can be gotten outside of a 'traditional' relationship. People have different forms of sex-based agreements these days anyways, so just as dating won't necessary guarantee sex, sex can as well happen without dating.

So no need to pull the jerk move of pretending to date someone just to get sex with them.

2. Dating is not equals permission for sex
All relationships are not sexual. Some people prefer to practice celibacy. So always ask before beginning the relationship if you are the type to whom sex means a lot.

That she agrees to be your girlfriend or fiancée is no agreement to have sex with you.

4. Women first
As a gentlemanly rule, always put your woman first during sex. If she's not satisfied and you are, you can't be too happy that you did right in that session.

Putting her first does not mean that sex has to be one-sided it's just... putting her pleasure first, making her pleasure paramount. Doing your best to make it memorable for her every single time.

WHAT ARE WE BUILDING? THE NEXT PHASE OF REAL ESTATE FINANCING IN AFRICA

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 04:11 PM PDT

Selwyn Blieden

By Selwyn Blieden; Head of Africa Coverage, Commercial Property Finance

For a long time, the most prominent players in the African property sector have been private equity or other institutional investors. It is also true that there has been an obvious gulf between demand and supply in all property sectors (commercial, industrial and residential) across many markets on the continent.

The investment proposition, often-repeated to prospective funders, regulators and local partners, was that by pioneering landmark projects international investment and development teams would go some way to bridge this gulf. But few of those presenting this thesis have shown the success they predicted for themselves and their investors.

Asset realisations have taken longer and have been less profitable than expected. Some institutions have chosen to exit direct African real estate investment entirely. With few exceptions, large South African REITs that expressed broader African ambitions have either closed their African operations or indicated that they intend to do so. Given its uneven performance record, an observer of the market might question the market-theses that seemed to be so alluring only a few years ago.

Despite this, we still believe that there is evidence to show that the African property market has evolved, just not in the way and for the segments previously expected. It is up to investors, financiers and other stakeholders to adapt their approaches to pursue the opportunities this market offers.

For the past years we at Absa have been tailoring our business approach to cater for the range of real estate investment activities that we have seen taking place in our target markets. This has meant that we have been monitoring a wider market than that represented by the large multi-jurisdictional players that for some years dominated African property media coverage and were most visible at industry conferences.

Our analysis shows that since the end of 2015 the domestic bank-financed commercial property market in our active African jurisdictions (which we identify as Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mauritius, Seychelles, Ghana and Namibia) has grown in US dollar terms at a compounded rate of 9.5% per annum. This represents an acceleration in growth since the period 2012 to the end of 2015 the same market grew by 8.3% per annum.

This means that since 2012, and even more so since 2015, growth of bank-financing to many African property markets has been faster than the growth of the underlying economies in these jurisdictions. Such growth could only have been possible if some combination of the following factors had been in place: the number and size of bankable projects and clients has increased; banks have become increasingly willing to undertake property finance; and/or the currencies in which property loans have been denominated have strengthened.

In all cases the factors mentioned above are positive for the property markets we are targeting: either the broader economies in which they are located are strengthening (as indicated by stronger exchange rates) or the property finance markets are becoming more active and formalised.

It bears repeating that not all African property markets are alike and data covering multiple markets may often conceal wide-ranging differences between those markets and nuances within markets. In the case of the countries we have been studying, there are two where the bank-financed property market has actually declined since 2015. These are Mozambique and Uganda.

In Mozambique's case the decline (of 8.8% per annum) would be expected given the broader debt-crisis in the country. In Uganda the decline has been an annual 2.1% -- less than the decline in the local currency over the period and thus indicating a market that is, at least, growing in local currency terms.

The largest property finance market on our list is Kenya which on its own holds about 46% of the total commercial property financing pool within the markets we service. Its commercial property finance growth rate has been at 9.6% over the past years. Its currency has been relatively stable, ranging only from 99 to 105 Kenyan Shillings to the US dollar over the period. The growth has achieved is largely, therefore, a function of real growth in bank funding and property investment activity. In our experience, growth in this market has been led by market participants that would in South Africa or similar banking markets be classified as commercial or local corporate clients rather than institutional players.

In conclusion, it is evident that even though the most prominent segment of the investment-grade African property market has shown signs of strain, the broader bankable property market has been growing significantly and in the case of key markets such as Kenya, the growth is the result of real property activity and risk-taking.

For banks and other financiers, future growth may require broadening their target-range of clients and adapting their credit and service models for strong local players. For equity investors, potential focus may be on finding ways to get effective exposure to this same category of market participants. Opportunities exist for those who are willing to adapt their approach and their guiding beliefs regarding this market.

PDP Discloses Members Likely To Be Sanctioned, Issues Stern Warning

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 10:12 AM PDT

The main opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has directed all its members who instituted cases against the party in various courts to withdraw them.

The opposition party said members who fails to comply  will face sanctions.

This decision was made known by the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi, in a press statement on Thursday.

PDP said the party considered myriad of cases instituted against it by members as inimical to the string of successes it had achieved in the last few years.

Odeyemi said any member of the party with a genuine interest in the party must not allow themselves to be used by elements that wanted to slow down its progress through needless litigations, Daily Post reports.

He said, "We consider it inimical to our progress as a vibrant political party, the myriad of cases instituted against PDP by members who are expected to be part of the concerted efforts towards being the ruling party in Nigeria.

"We can't continue to struggle under the yoke of needless litigations when we intend to return to power both at federal level and in other states that are out of control of PDP at the moment.

"We are monitoring situations in Osun, Ekiti, Oyo, Lagos and other states across the country regarding court matters instituted by our members."

The party assured aggrieved party members that they would get justice by using the party's internal mechanism and not through the court.

It warned that any member that failed to comply with the directive would be sanctioned.

Churchill Olakunle files petition to IG against ex-wife, Tonto Dikeh for illegal sale of his SUV
It is definitely more drama for Tonto Dikeh and Churchill Olakunle's messy relationship as he has filed a petition to the Inspector General of Police over her illegal sale of his SUV.

The business mogul via his legal team submitted a petition to the office of the IG of police where he claims that he acquired a Toyota Prado SUV worth N22M for his organisation, Big Church Group a few years ago.

He went on to reveal that after Tonto Dikeh welcomed their son, Andre(King), the car was then converted to home use. However, after their divorce, Tonto Dikeh allegedly forged the paper documents of the car and sold it.

According to Churchill Olakunle's lawyers, their client isn't really interested in the car but wants to make the police aware so as not be dragged into any issue over whatever the vehicle may be used for since he wasn't aware of the transaction or even the person that acquired the vehicle.

This latest development is coming on the heels of Tonto Dikeh's recent bashing of Churchill Olakunle. It would be recalled that a few days ago, the actress had dragged her former husband and his mother on her Instagram page.

Farmcrowdy Group launches a agro-commodity aggregator platform

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 08:57 AM PDT

FarmCrowdy Group
Farmcrowdy Group (FCG), has launched a new subsidiary, Farmgate Africa, a technology-driven agro-trading market place for agriculture commodities in Africa.

Led by Kenneth Obiajulu, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Farmgate Africa (FGA) is bridging the gap between rural farmers and processors. Buyers have the opportunity to purchase commodities directly from farming clusters through technology.

The Farmgate Africa platform serves to build relationships between local farmers and major processors, aggregating commodities while paying attention to the unique specifications of the buyers. The system allows everyday Nigerians fund the process of buying and selling what farmers have already harvested. This will give every farmer that has produced high-quality farm produce, the opportunity to sell to major buyers through Farmgate Africa's portal.

Obiajulu says, "Our business model is one that brings the farmers closer to the processors by eliminating several layers of intermediaries. By doing this, Farmgate optimizes market access to African farmers and also improves their income by at least 30%."

Onyeka Akumah, Founder and CEO of Farmcrowdy Group says, "Launching Farmgate Africa gives us huge joy with the expectations placed on us to continue to innovate and build new solutions driven by technology to finance agriculture. We have received a lot of feedback from farmers and major agro buyers who need to fund market access to agro-commodities but are constantly held back because the market place is unstructured. Farmgate Africa is our response to this need."

Nipsey Hussle's killer has been charged with murder and bail bond is set at $7M
Nipsey Hussle's suspected killer, Eric Holder has been finally being charged with murder and his bail bond is been set at $7M.

According to TMZ, the Los Angeles Police Department is charging him with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. If found guilty, Eric Holder is most like to spend the rest of his life in jail.

Eric Holder is also been accused of shooting Kerry Lathan and Shermi Cervabta Villanueva. Kerry Lathan is to have just gotten out of jail and was visiting Nipsey Hussle who wanted to give him new clothes.

Police in Los Angeles is keeping Eric Holder in solitary confinement for fear of his life. According to them, he is a target hence their decision to keep him away from danger. With the $7M bail bond place on him, it doesn't look like Eric Holder will be getting out of jail anytime soon.

Recall a few days ago, Eric Holder was arrested by men of the Los Angeles Police Department after a manhunt was set on him for the alleged murder of Nipsey Hussle.

Is Victoria Kimani shading Tiwa Savage in her recent Instagram post?

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 08:46 AM PDT

Victoria Kimani
It looks like Victoria Kimani isn't done shading some of your favourite celebrities as she fires some shots on her Instagram page.

The Kenyan music star took to her Instagram page on Thursday, April 4, 2019, where she threw shades at a yet to be identified celeb. Even though she later deleted the post, we think she drove home the message.

"Having material things will never make me envy you. Especially knowing what you had to do to get it gurlll wrinkly married balls slapping on your chin #ImGoodLuvEnjoy #GodGotme#YoSugarDaddyPoppinTho #TheyCelebrateEvil#CantBlockMyBlessingsTho#youAndYourYESMEN #FakeAccountscomment below? ( will delete this soon but just want you to know how I feel since were being honest now)" she wrote.

Victoria Kimani obviously has a lot to get off her chest and it doesn't look like she is done throwing shades and calling out fellow celebrities who she thinks have wronged her.

Recall a few days ago, she broke the Internet when she dropped her version of Kizz Daniel's hit song 'Fvck You' challenge. In her own cover, she took shots at Tiwa Savage and YCee.

Africa get first User experience Lab

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 08:43 AM PDT

Nihilent LAB
Nihilent, a global consulting and solutions integration company, official opened the first user experience (UX) lab in Africa.

Located at Bryanston in South Africa, the lab caters to all type of businesses and verticals B2B and B2C for product/content validation, driving projects, facilitating design workshops and bringing to market the next big disruption.

The lab uses a patented design thinking framework and analytical tools to identify cognitive, and emotional triggers as well as non-verbal modalities of user experience with the goal of further humanising the interaction between users and technology.

It is home to multidisciplinary teams of right and left-brain professionals working closely with customers to continually enhance user experience.

Jeremy Ord, Nihilent Chairman, said, "We are thrilled to have chosen South Africa for our second UX Lab in the world. We believe South Africa has the skills base to support our vision for the lab. South Africa's emerging economy has tremendous growth potential and we are fully equipped to offer innovative products and services to our customers in the region."

The massive adoption of digital technologies, exponential increase in connected individual and devices has given rise to a new type of economy. Millennials today hold the potential purchasing power and are spending more on experiences rather than just services. Fueling this economic shift is social media – a medium that lets everyone showcase and share their experiences, making these moments tangible and worth returning for.

The experience economy is one of the biggest and most significant global trends that reflects consumers' changing attitudes and expectations.

Speaking on the occasion, LC Singh, Nihilent Executive Vice Chairman said, "If you want to build brand affinity for either product or services, you need to give customers an experience, something memorable they can connect with and relate to. In a hyper-connected world, that's your currency."

"Customer loyalty is a misnomer in the experience economy."

Nihilent uses design thinking to deliver a personalised and enthralling experience. The process starts by first providing utilitarian functionalities and progresses to ensure features are easily and readily accessible by the users. Once the basics are in place, the company uses heuristics and quantitative assessments to work towards making these interactions pleasurable and meaningful.

In conclusion Gunendra Patil, Chief Technology Officer said, "Design thinking reduces the ambiguity in innovation by involving the customers on prototypes to find, test and improve concepts. Funneling towards the pilot is efficient as learnings are derived from simulated environments and not static data,"

"The user experience trend goes beyond the inclusion of just bells and whistles. From the proof of concept to prototype, empathy and understanding are key to enhancing the usability of the product/solution and customer. If businesses want to continually innovate, they must learn to think in UX."

Companies across diverse industries are beginning to realise this and are starting to embrace UX as a philosophy.

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 08:36 AM PDT

Trevor Noah
We all know that Trevor Noah is one of the very few spontaneous comedians around so it didn't come as a surprise when he jumped on the comments made by Audu Ogbeh's about pizza and made fun of it.

The stand-up comedian and host of 'The Daily Show' shared a video of the comments made by the Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh where he revealed that some Nigerians usually order for pizza from London, a statement which has been found outrageous and at the same time embarrassing.

Well, Trevor Noah in his spontaneous nature jumped on it and made fun of it on his show which actually got everyone laughing.

Back home in Nigeria, not so many people find this statement funny and for some, it felt like the minister exaggerated the whole thing. It is not clear if there are actually Nigerians who order for pizza from London daily but it certainly sounds ridiculous.

Agric Minister Ogbeh says Nigerians now order Pizza through British Airways

According to Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, Nigerians now order Pizza from abroad through British Airways. Ogbeh made the disclosure while addressing the Senate Committee on Agriculture on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. He made the remark while buttressing a point about a nation's craze for everything imported.

In Ogbeh's words, "Do you know, Sir, that there are Nigerians who use their cell phones to import pizza from London; they buy in London and bring it on British Airways in the morning to pick up at the airport. It is a very annoying situation and we have to move a lot faster in cutting down some of these things," he said.

Audu Ogbeh indeed has sparked off a conversation and wonder how far the government will go to curb the excesses of how dependent we are as a country on imported goods.

Linum Labs hoosts Africa's first ETHGlobal hackthon

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 08:34 AM PDT

Community members, both local and international, will converge at The Lookout in April to attend the first ETHGlobal hackathon on the African continent.

ETHCapeTown, hosted by ETHGlobal and Linum Labs, is designed as a hands-on event that encourages participants to stay as focused as possible to develop their concepts into actionable solutions. The occasion will be inclusive and educational, inspiring communities through the creative design of blockchain applications.

Hackathons are becoming increasingly popular platforms as a means to teach new skills, bring a fresh perspective to business challenges, strengthen developer communities, and push the limits of new technologies.

ETHCapeTown brings people together in a way that allows participants to learn new things from others directly. Leading minds within the blockchain space will join over 200 international hackers, developers and curious minds to collaborate in building decentralised applications using Ethereum.

"Ethereum development is growing fast, and it's valuable for the developer community in Cape Town to get together, discuss ideas, and push the envelope on what they themselves can do. And this is one of the goals of the hackathon – to simply give developers a place and time to build what they want to and see where their ideas take them," says Kartik Talwar of ETHGlobal.

"We believe creative outcomes appear when there is collaboration from diverse groups. The developers from Cape Town will get a chance to see some of the latest tools being built by the global ethereum community, and the hackathon will help highlight Cape Town as a growing tech hub."

Creating a space where vast amounts of diverse skillsets and different disciplines can merge together under one roof, has become proven grounds for new ideas.

"The ETHCapeTown hackathon is again proving how Cape Town is pioneering the way forward for innovation in Africa. The city's local tech hub is alive, thriving and hungry to grow and position itself as a leading destination for emerging technologies," says Devon Krantz of Linum Labs.

"One of the most notable things we've noticed in the space is the incredible capacity at which developers utilise new tools during time-sensitive environments at hackathons to deliver decentralised solutions that can have real-world impact."

Vitalik Buterin, the Russian-Canadian math genius responsible for creating Ethereum, has been confirmed as the first official judge for ETHCapeTown 2019.

Not only will participants be exposed to some of the leading minds within the blockchain space, but they will also have the opportunity to win prizes for the work that they produce at ETHCapeTown.

If you are in Cape Town between April 19th-21st and would like to participate in the hackathon, apply here.

Become a thinker, a developer and a change maker for the world.

Senate presidency: Kano senators endorse Lawan

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 08:04 AM PDT

Ahmed Lawan
The ambition of Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, to become Senate President in the 9th National Assembly has received a boost as three Senators from Kano state on Friday endorsed his candidacy.

The three Senators from Kano Barau Jubrin, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya and Malam Ibrahim Shekrau threw their weight behind Senator Ahmed Lawan's candidacy.

They described him as eminently qualified to occupy the exalted seat going by international parliamentary best practices.

Senator Barau Jubrin, who is the secretary of Ahmed Lawan Campaign Organisation, led other members of the campaign train to the residence of Senator-elect, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau who also endorsed Lawan.

Among those who visited Kano with the Senate Leader include Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North) chairman, Ahmed Lawan Campaign Organisation; Senator Danladi Sankara, who is the Senator-elect for Jigawa North-West Senatorial District; Senator Bello Maudiya (Katsina South); Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan (Lagos West); Senator Degi-Eremienyo (Bayelsa East) and Senator Lekan Mustapha (Ogun East).

Jubrin said: "The National Assembly leadership is elected based on international parliamentary best practices.

"In every parliament, leaders are elected based on ranking, based on experience and once a parliament goes by election and the party that gets the majority in that election produces the leader, and in this case, the majority leader in such a parliament automatically becomes the Senate President or the Speakers, as the case may be.

"Now, Ahmed Lawan is the current leader and he will be the oldest Senator, the most ranked Senator in the 9th Senate.

"He was a two-time members of House of Representatives and four-time member of the Senate.

"So, he is the most experienced and most ripe for the job of the Senate presidency going by intentional parliamentary best practices."

Shekarau said: "I am so highly honoured to be visited by this high-powered delegation led by the leader of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Lawan.

"I am now a Senator-elect and I pray the 9th National Assembly will be a very peaceful and smooth one, where we will all join hands together to move Nigeria forward.

"I also congratulate you for aspiring to lead the National Assembly. It is one thing to be there, it is another thing to be identified as a leader.

"It is a challenge and we are all proud of the fact the it is one of those that we have known before that is aspiring to lead the National Assembly.

"I believe you have all what it takes to lead the National Assembly. We are already your canvassers whether you are around or not, you need not to be out to it, or recruit us to do it. We understand where need to go and who needs to have the responsibility to lead us.

"It is not that you a super-person among all the rest, but one thing is that you are the first among all the equals and I believe that with all the other experienced people around, you will be able to give Nigeria, a Senate that everybody will be very proud of."

Lawan said they were in Kano to solicit for the support of Shekarau, whose wealth of experience he said is much needed to move the 9th Senate forward.

In a chat with reporters, Adeola explained further why Senator Ahmed Lawan should be elected as the new Senate President of the 9th Assembly.

According to him: "Senator Ahmed Lawan has been an experienced lawmaker. He has been around since 1999.

"He is a very distinguished Nigerian, with wealth of experience in the business of lawmaking.

"Senator Lawan has over the years distinguished himself as a Nigerian who is detribalized, who believes in the principles of fairness and equity, and fair-play.

"He is one Nigerian that holds the sanctity of this nation in a very high esteem. Aside that, Senator Lawan is the current leader of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and in accordance with international parliamentary best practices, as it is obtained in other parts of the world, when you have the leader of the National Assembly, whether in the House of Representatives or the Senate, it is only right for him to transit when his party is the majority party."

INEC issues Certificates of Return to 40 Lagos Assembly members-elect

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 06:55 AM PDT

Mahmood Yakubu
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday presented Certificates of Return to the 40 members-elect of the Lagos State House of Assembly, who emerged victorious during the March house of assembly elections.

Speaking at the event at the INEC office in Yaba, Lagos, Mr Sam Olumekun, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, reminded the members-elect that the principal task ahead of them was that of making the lives of the people better.

"Distinguished members, we want to urge you that the principal task ahead of you is the improvement of the lives of Lagosians.

"Please, endeavour to enact very vibrant laws that will improve the lives of Lagosians. Of course, your past record is here; you have the tradition and you have been doing very well in the past. Lagos has always been excellent," he said.

Olumekun said there was the need to celebrate 20 years of uninterrupted democracy, but bemoaned low voter turnout during the last election, which he described as "very disturbing".

"I want to urge you to mobilise not only your members, but even the entire electorate to come out and participate during the conduct of elections," the INEC boss added.

He commended all stakeholders that contributed to the success of elections in the state, noting that the exercise that saw the lawmakers through were considered free, fair and credible.

The REC, however, said there were about 16 petitions filed in the election tribunal and the commission was ready to defend its conduct during the poll wherever necessary.

He said that the commission had cooperated with groups and individuals who requested for one thing or the other.

Speaking after collecting his certificate, Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa, who will be returning for his fifth term, promised that the lawmakers would continue to do their best to ensure an orderly society and improve living conditions.

He also commended INEC and other critical stakeholders for their performance during the elections.

"This is my fifth time of coming to this place to collect certificate of return. We have listened to what you have said, we have heard that we should represent our constituency adequately, and show leadership.

"We are going to serve our people and the interest of our people, and we are going to represent them adequately.
"We are particularly concerned about the people, and we are not going to forget that in everything we do.

"We have the interest of our people, and that is the purpose we are going to the parliament to represent their interest," the speaker said.

He said the assembly had done tremendously well, and the ninth assembly would not be different as the ear and mouth of the people.

On the cost of executing elections, Obasa said that the nation had to be more prudent by looking for a more convenient and less expensive process that would be acceptable and credible.

"I agree with you that we have done well in our last election; we must improve on what we have done.

"Everyone is important, no matter what the status is. So, we must learn from this election to improve on incoming elections," Obasa said.

He said that Nigeria's economic system demanded prudence, saying that the amount of money committed to the election was huge, while other sectors were begging for attention.

Obasa called for more acceptable, convenient, prudent, truthful and protective means, calling on the National Assembly to embark on necessary amendment that would be beneficial to the people.

He commended the National Leadership of APC, Sen. Bola Tinubu, Governor's Advisory Council (GAC) members and other stakeholders who contributed to ensure that the 40 seats were won by candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking with NAN, Mr Setonji David, member-elect for Badagry Constituency II, who will be returning to the house, said he was excited and felt fulfilled to be given the second chance to represent the people.

David, who noted that INEC tried its best during the elections, said that people must also show interest in electoral processes to increase participation and deepen democracy.

Also, Mr Tunde Braimoh, member-elect for Kosofe Constituency II, who is also returning, told NAN that there was the need for INEC to improve on its conduct of elections.

Braimoh, who could not hide his joy for his reelection, thanked the leadership of APC and his constituents for the opportunity.

He promised to give his best, saying "to whom much is given, from him much is expected".

INEC had on March 29 presented Certificates of Return to the Lagos State Governor-elect, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat.

GlaxoSmithKline to shut down Agbara plant by 2021

Posted: 05 Apr 2019 05:03 AM PDT

GlaxoSmithKline Nigeria says it will shut down its manufacturing plant located in Agbara Industrial Estate, Ogun state by 2021.

In a notice sent to the Nigerian Stock Exchange on Tuesday, the pharmaceutical company said the move is part of a restructuring of its internal operating model.

Effective from the third quarter of 2021,the company said it would begin to work with local contract manufacturers for the production of its products and transfer technical knowledge to improve local production capacity.

The company, which got listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange 40 years ago, said the decision was reached after an extensive review of its product supply operation.

"The Board of Directors believe that these changes will allow GSK to build a more sustainable commercial business, enabling it to continue with its ongoing efforts in supporting access to GSK's consumer health products, medicines and vaccines."

The company said it would make an announcement when it settles on a suitable third party local manufacturer.

Despite the factory shutdown, GSK said it would continue to be listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

In June 2018, the company announced its intentions to sell Horlicks, its malted drinks business, saying it needed to fund a $13 billion buyout in its consumer healthcare joint venture with Novartis.

It also sold two-third of its Agbara plant to Suntory when it sold its drinks segment where it produced Ribena and Lucozade to the company.
