Adekunle Gold breaks silence after father’s death says “Sadly, I was not done making him proud”

Adekunle Gold breaks silence after father's death says "Sadly, I was not done making him proud"
Nigerian music singer, Adekunle Gold has broken his silence following the death of his father, Prince Hakeem Adeyemi Kosoko who died the 27th of May, 2019 after an unnamed illness and was buried according to Islamic rites on Thursday May 30, at the private vault of Ikoyi Cemetery.

Since the demise of his father, Adekunle Gold hasn't made any public statement or even shared a post on any of his social media accounts. In this emotional tribute, he wrote on how he was not done making his dad proud before his demise.

Read Below….

I feel a great sense of loss to officially announce that after we fought so hard, my father passed on the 27th of May, 2019.

My father was a GREAT man. He has always been the man I've looked up to. Growing up, I watched him work so hard for so little. He was very honest and has never been interested in shortcuts.

Hard work and integrity meant everything to him. My father. I will always remember, what he said in this statement: "I've been in service far too long to let quick money ruin my reputation". This was my Father.

He is forever to be remembered as a teacher. My teacher.
We all know that teachers weren't big earners but my dad would ensure we always had everything we ever needed.

My Dad was so loving towards me. My father often wanted me to toughen up, it's funny because he was the opposite tender and sentimental about me and my sisters.

Sadly, I was not done making him proud, there are dreams I had with him in the picture, I don't know guys, I really wasn't done.

I find little solace in something I read today. "God knows how to write straight on crooked lines" This area is very crooked for me, these are depths of grief that I have never dived. But God…God will figure it out.

I thank you all for your prayers, your support, your kind words. None of them have gone unnoticed. I pray the love you've shown me will be accorded you in your time of need.

To my Dad, the greatest man I will ever know in this life and the next, sun re o!
Adieu papa. May your soul rest in perfect peace.

Justice Onnoghen's Retirement Accepted By President Buhari, 5 New Supreme Court Justices Appointed

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 07:36 PM PDT

Justice Walter Onnoghen

The voluntary retirement from service of embattled Justice Walter Onnoghen as Chief Justice of Nigeria, effective from May 28, 2019, has been accepted by President Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria Television Authority, NTA reports.

Malam Garba Shehu, the President's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in a statement, confirmed this in Abuja on Sunday.

According to the statement, the President thanked Onnoghen for his service to the country and wished him the best of retirement life.

Onnoghen was born on the Dec. 22, 1950 at Okurike Town, Biase Local Government Area of Cross Rivers.

He began his primary school education at the Presbyterian Primary School, Okurike Town between 1959 and 1965.

Before his appointment as the Chief Justice of the Federation, he worked with the Ministry of Justice, Ikeja, Lagos; Ogun, between 1978 and 1979 as the Pupil State Counsel.

Between 1989 – 1998, he was a High Court Judge of Cross River Judiciary.

During his time as the High Court Judge of Cross River, he was made the Chairman of Cross River State Armed Robbery and Firm Arms Tribunal and he held the post for 3 years from 1990 – 1993.

Sometime in 1996 while still holding the post of High Court Judge of Cross River, he was appointed the Chairman, Judicial Enquiry into the Crisis between Students of the University of Calabar and Obufa Esuk Orok Community, Calabar.

In 1998, he was the Chairman, Failed Banks Tribunal, Ibadan Zone.

Between 1992 and 2004, he served as the Judge, High Court of Rivers, while from 1998 to 2005, he served as Justice of the Court of Appeal.

In 2007, Justice Onnoghen played a huge role in 2007 election which saw the Late Umaru Yar'adua as President of Nigeria.

He had a dissenting judgment that annulled the presidential election. His position was however a minority judgement.

After being nominated as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria by the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, he was confirmed by the Senate on March 1, 2017, and sworn in on March 7

Onnoghen's trials for false assets declaration started when a petition was filed by the civil rights group at the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), alleging that he owned sundry accounts.

It alleged the accounts were primarily funded through cash deposits made by himself up to as recently as Aug. 10, 2016, which appeared to have been run in a manner inconsistent with financial transparency and the code of conduct for public officials.

The trial began on Jan. 14 at Code of Conduct Tribunal but Onnoghen was absent.

On Feb. 11, the council set up a preliminary complaints assessment committee to review the responses given to it by Onnoghen, and Muhammad who is acting in his stead.

Onnoghen is accused of failing to fully declare his assets, while Muhammad is facing allegations of misconduct.

The NJC said it reconvened and resolved to constitute into the Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committee in accordance with Regulation 17 of the National Judicial Council Judicial Discipline Regulations, 2017.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has written the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria,  Justice Tanko Muhammad, on the appointment of additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

RELATED: Presidency: No deal with Onnoghen over resignation

Shehu said the President wrote: ''Pursuant to the provisions of Section 230(2) A&B of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), I am pleased to request that you initiate in earnest the process of appointing additional five Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria to make the full complement of 21 Justices as provided by the aforementioned provisions of the Constitution.

"This is in line with the Government's Agenda of repositioning the Judiciary in general and Supreme Court in particular for greater efficiency, with a view to reducing the backlogs of appeals pending at the Supreme Court.

"Please accept, your Lordship, the assurances of my highest regards."

APC Chieftain Says, President Buhari Is In Support Of 2023 Igbo Presidency

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 04:01 PM PDT

President Muhammadu Buhari

General Joseph Okonkwo Okoloagu (rtd.), a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is very open to the emergence of an Igbo presidency in 2023.

In an interview with Vanguard, the former military chief said he met with the president in 2018 and that the president seemed positive on the issue of an Igbo presidency.

He said: "January 2018 was the last time l met with President Buhari when the caucus of South-East APC went to Aso Rock to see him and extract commitment and support for lgbo presidency in 2023 and, in fairness to him, he was open. Why not? He has always admitted that what is good for the goose is also good for the gander. And he doesn't see why an lgbo man cannot be President in 2023. Now, having said that, let's talk about the reality. Those of us who moved from AC to ACN and now to APC know that it is not that l hated the popular party of my kinsmen but you can't put all your eggs in one basket, and that's why we have not been able to get it right. If the lgbo want a party of their own, they should invest in a particular party and let it control most of the states where we have influence, just like the Yoruba did. But you can say APGA today, tomorrow we are in PDP. There is no direction and you and l are talking about lgbo presidency in 2023. Even sickness has period of gestation."

Okoloagu said for the Igbos to get a possibly shot at the presidency in 2023, they need to do away with ethnic politics.

He said: "I have looked at it politically, maturely, militarily and what have you, it's very doubtful but democracy is a game of numbers. You don't do ethnic politics like the Yoruba have done, the Hausa have done.

"So if the Igbo feel they are strong in the PDP, let them give us an lgbo PDP candidate just like we the lgbo in APC are going to request. If we get it, good but what is even the guarantee that we will make it at the end of the day? Are we going to have the support of the people because some people carry PDP as if it's a birth right and that has not helped us? One of the things that pain me in election happened in 2015 when l made it clear to my people that if we don't get into the Senate and the House of Representatives, you have to lobby for appointment and that appointment is of no use because you are appointed at the pleasure of the man who appointed you. But if l, Gen. Okoloagu, is a senator today and l stand on the red carpet, the floor of the Senate and say 'this is what l want', l must pursue it. You cannot as an appointee get up and tell the man who appointed you that you want transformer for your people. Are you the one that appointed him or he that appointed you? So, our people are getting it completely wrong, and that is the tragedy of lgbo politics. 2023, l don't know but all of us in APC are interested in Igbo presidency. If at the primaries we are able to present Igbo candidate, it's not only the Igbo in APC that will vote for him while the rest will lobby."

"And those of them who came from the PDP to APC, l thought they were coming to build the party if they had brought their followers, unless they don't have followers, because l know the heavy weights that defected from PDP to APC.

RELATED: Presidency 2023: Igbo Will Not Produce President, Amaechi States, Advises Atiku

"The structure of Accord Party was my personal effort. I used my pension to start AC (in Enugu) and sustained it from AC to ACN and from ACN to APC. I thought my relief had come. But did we fare better in 2019 than we did 2015 when we didn't have them? It is not as if l don't want lgbo presidency in 2023 but one thing l know is that the Constitution makes democracy a game of numbers. So we must fight for it. I would love to see lgbo president in my lifetime. But you cannot desire something without working for it. All I am telling the lgbo is to work for it and we will get it."

Northern Group Accuses Tinubu, El-Rufai, Vows To Reject Lawan As Senate President

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 03:31 PM PDT

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Nasir El-Rufai

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), on Sunday, June 9, ahead of the inauguration of the ninth National Assembly,  accused Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, of selling Ahmed Lawan to Nigerians as next Senate president because of their ambitions.

Yerima Shettima, the AYCF national president, said it had known that Danjuma Goje would be pressured to step down owing to the case he allegedly has with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to AYCF, Nigeria can only make progress in the next four years if Ali Ndume becomes the next Senate president since the country is in serious need of someone who would ensure the effective principle of separation of powers and checks and balances, Legit reports.

Below is AYCF's full statement:

We are happy to inform all Nigerian progressives that we have been vindicated in all the public declarations we made recently on the contentious seat of the Senate presidency. Recall that we declared as follows:

1. Candidate Senator Ahmed Lawan was a push-over by Chief Bola Tinubu, to help him emerge President in 2023 and that Senator Danjum Goje has cases of corruption before the EFCC.

2. We rightly predicted that Senator Goje would likely step down for Senator Lawan in the contest for the Senate presidency because he might be beaten into submission using the pending EFCC cases. We also declared that he could alternatively be forced to step down from the race in exchange for his freedom from EFCC's hot chase.

RELATED: Senate President Candidacy: Why PDP Senator Declared Support For Ahmad Lawan

3. It is obvious that the desperation to make the road to Senate Presidency smooth for Tinubu's acolyte (Sen Lawan) Buhari's foot-soldiers, especially Governor Nasir El-Rufai are coming up with a new narrative to pull a blind wool over our eyes. The Kaduna governor is trying to sell a dummy to Nigerians, that the attorney-general of the federation has done the needful regarding Goje's case with the EFCC. And we ask: Which attorney-general, when all ministers have since resigned? What is the meaning of taking a case that was under investigation by an independent body, to an attorney-general who is not the judge in the court handling the Senator Goje case? These are questions begging for answers and we are tempted to assume that the EFCC is about to be hindered from continuing with the case because Chief Tinubu, who has been pushing Buhari harder, has vested interest to do with his 2023 presidential ambition.

4. In view of this clear case of 2023 desperation, intimidation and blackmail, we have now been vindicated that the best man for the next Senate presidency is Senator Ali Ndume. He has remained uncompromising, unwilling to dance to the tune of the new 2023 gang-up. Ndume's bold stance in this climate of political fire has been a very rare one. We see the desperation in the use on intimidation of senators to fall into the booby trap. Let the world know that we, in the AYCF are watching very closely and we will democratically resist this imposition in broad daylight.

5. It is now abundantly clear that only Senator Ali Ndume is capable of preserving the independence of the Senate under the 'Next Level' mantra.

We will therefore continue to resist the imposition of anyone's lackey on Nigerian voters in the 9th Senate. We are more than ever ready to use all constitutional and legitimate means to promote and preserve the integrity and independence of the Senate by ensuring that the next Senate president represents the dreams and aspirations of all Nigerians.

We say a big no to impunity, selective anti-corruption war guided by political convenience. That era is since gone and we will strive to prove that Nigeria is not 'Banana Republic' but a full-blown democratic nation and the pride of Africa.

RELATED: Senate Presidency: Lawan steps up campaign in states

We advise the Tinubus and El-Rufais of this world to shove aside any desperate move on 2023 and allow a level-playing field for all political offices. No one should hide behind any political party to turn Nigerians into mere manipulable pawn. That will be undemocratic imposition and totally unacceptable.

Buhari Vs Atiku: Presidential Election Tribunal Gets New Head, Resumes Hearing Monday

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 02:20 PM PDT

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and President Muhammadu Buhari

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja will on Monday, resume proceedings on the petition challenging the declaration of President Muhammadu Buhari as winner of the February 23 presidential election.

The tribunal had on May 22, adjourned further hearing on the case the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar lodged against the outcome of the presidential poll, after President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, recused herself from presiding over the panel.

Justice Bulkachuwa disqualified herself following a motion the petitioners filed to challenge her decision to preside over the five-member panel tribunal.

PDP and Atiku had insisted that Justice Bulkachuwa's involvement was prejudicial to their case against President Buhari, since her husband and son, are card-carrying members of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, which is the 3rd Respondent in the petition.

RELATED: Buhari vs Atiku: See What Happened At Tribunal On Friday As PDP, Atiku Make Disclosures

In a 19-paragraphed affidavit that was deposed to by its Deputy National Secretary, the PDP, noted that aside the fact that Justice Bulkachuwa's husband is an APC Senator-elect in Bauchi State, her biological son who was APC Governorship candidate in Gombe State, equally campaigned for President Buhari.

It further noted that the presidential poll which is subject of the petition, held simultaneously in Bauchi North Senatorial District where Justice Bulkachuwa's husband was declared winner.

Insisting that Bauchi State is one of the focal States that massive electoral infractions occurred, PDP, said it was not comfortable with Justice Bulkachuwa's presence on the panel.

"Honourable Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa is not only a card carrying member of the 3rd Respondent and a Senator-elect under the sponsorship of the 3rd Respondent, he is also a staunch member and prominent stakeholder in the 3rd Respondent and has a stake in the election of the 2nd Respondent as President, having extensively campaigned for the 2nd Respondent.

"I know that as a spouse of Honourable Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa, the Honourable Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa is so closely related to Honourable Adamu Muhammed Bulkachuwa that she cannot fairly hear and determine the instant Petition without eliciting the suspicion and anxiety of all right thinking persons, including myself.

RELATED: Buhari tells tribunal, I'm not aware Bulkachuwa's son campaigned for me

"The Court of Appeal has more than eighty (80) Justices who are able and competent to participate in the hearing and determination of the extant Petition in the absence of Honourable Justice Zainab Adamu Bulkachuwa (PCA).

"I also know that her biological son, Aliyu Haidar Abubakar is a card carrying member of the 3rd Respondent and he contested the gubernatorial primary election of the 3rd Respondent in the just concluded general election in Gombe State", the deponent added.

Meanwhile, despite a ruling of the tribunal that dismissed PDP's contentions, Justice Bulkachuwa, on May 22, voluntarily stepped aside, promising to appoint another Justice to head the panel.

Meanwhile, Vanguard learned on Sunday that Justice Bulkachuwa may likely be replaced by another female Justice. A source at the appellate court told Vanguard that Justice Monica Dongban-Menssem who is currently serving under the Enugu Division of the court, may takeover from the disqualified PCA.

A source at the appellate court told Vanguard that Justice Monica Dongban-Menssem who is currently serving under the Enugu Division of the court, may takeover from the disqualified PCA.

Other Justices on the panel are Abdu Aboki, Peter Ige, Samuel Oseji and Joseph Ikyegh.

PDP and Atiku had earlier expressed concern over delay in the appointment of Justice Bulkachuwa's replacement.

In a letter they sent to Justice Bulkachuwa on May 31, the petitioners, decried that they were already running against time considering that the case against Buhari must be concluded and judgement delivered within 180 days.

As it stands, the petitioners have barely 92 days left to call witnesses and adduce evidence that the 2019 presidential election was manipulated.

RELATED: Mike Ozekhome, Atiku's Lawyer, Makes Demands From President Buhari Ahead Of Election Tribunal Judgement

The available days will equally be shared by all the Respondents in the matter- the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, President Buhari, and the APC- who are all expected to defend the outcome of the election.

Specifically, the petitioners, are challenging the declaration by INEC that President Buhari garnered a total of 15,191,847 votes to defeat Atiku who it said polled a total of 11,262,978 votes in the disputed presidential election.

Dissatisfied with the result, Atiku had vowed to upturn it in court.

In their joint petition, Atiku and his party, insisted that data they secured from INEC's server, revealed that they clearly defeated President Buhari with over 1.6million votes.

The petitioners alleged that INEC had at various stages of the presidential election, unlawful allocated votes to President Buhari, saying they would adduce oral and documentary evidence to show that result of the election as announced by the electoral body, did not represent the lawful valid votes cast

Atiku alleged that in some states, INEC, deducted lawful votes that accrued to him, in its bid to ensure that Buhari was returned back to office.

The petitioners said they would call evidence of statisticians, forensic examiners and finger-print experts at the hearing of the petition to establish that the scores credited to Buhari were not the product of actual votes validly cast at the polling units.

Likewise, in one of the five grounds of the petition, Atiku and the PDP maintained that Buhari was not qualified to run for the office of the President, contending that he does not possess the constitutional minimum qualification of a school certificate.

RELATED: Buhari vs Atiku: Father Kukah Opens Up On Atiku's Refusal To Concede Defeat

Aside asking the Tribunal to declare that he was duly and validly elected and ought to be returned as President of Nigeria, having polled the highest number of lawful votes cast at the presidential election, Atiku, in the alternative, urged the tribunal to nullify the February 23 presidential election and order a fresh poll.

REPS. SPEAKERSHIP: Bago Condemns APC, Say Party Made Grave Mistake On Gbajabiamila Choice

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 07:43 AM PDT

Hon. Umar Mohammed Bago

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Umar Mohammed Bago, has said that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has made a mistake by zoning the leadership of the lower chamber to the South-West.

Briefing journalists yesterday in Abuja, Bago who is a third-time federal lawmaker from Chanchanga constituency of Niger State, said his refusal to back down from the race was to correct the mistake made by the party.

The lawmaker also claimed that the South-East and the North-Central were the greatest casualties of the zoning formula of the APC.

According to him, the two regions feel marginalized by the decision of the party to zone the speakership of the 9th Assembly to the region, Daily Post reports.

He added that he is contesting the position to provide an alternative against the bad choice made by the party.

He said, "We are saying that we're not antagonizing the party either. We're only providing an alternative for the wrong choice the party has made ab initio, so that the party might have a rethink before Tuesday and say okay, we've made a mistake, let us do things rightly."

Asked if Gbajabiamila is a bad choice because of the accusation of fraud against him, Bago said, "No, (he) is a wrong choice by the zoning. The party alienated two zones in their consideration, the North-central and the South-east.

"In the North-central where I'm from, we know we deserve to produce the speaker based on what we brought to the table for APC to be victorious. This is something that nobody can doubt, the figures are there."

Here's how Regina Daniels' mum made her a brand in only 14 years

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 07:30 AM PDT

Here's how Regina Daniels' mum made her a brand in only 14 years
Regina Daniels always knew she wanted to be a celebrity. Though born in Lagos, she grew up in Asaba, Delta State - the second home of the Nollywood movies in Nigeria.

"I have always had the dream to become a celebrity, to be someone that the world would care about. I would always put in much effort to make sure I get there," she says in a recent video interview on her YouTube page.

Regina's mum, Rita Daniels had a heavy influence on the actress like every mum. However, Rita had a special plan to make Regina one of the most-talked-about actresses and it only took less than 14 years for her to succeed. Regina's thoughts and aspirations are heavily influenced by her mum, whom she sees as her Pathfinder.

Interestingly, Regina really didn't have to look far for artistic inspiration to become an actress. Her mum, Rita Daniel is a well-known actress-turn-producer for the majority of her childhood in Delta state. She'd tag along to movie sets with her mother till she started getting herself some roles at the age of 6 with the help of her mum.

"I started acting at the tender age of 6 through the help of my mother, she went out of her way to make sure I was in the limelight," she said.

Soon after featuring in a few movies, Regina's lifelong dream to become a celebrity started becoming a reality through acting. She starred opposite several established acts including Mercy Johnson Okojie to feature in 'Dumebi in school'. 'Dumebi in School' is a spin-off from the Dumebi series featuring top Nollywood actors, Mercy Johnson and Kenneth Okonkwo. Regina made her mark acting opposite Mercy Johnson starring as her best friend in school.

Despite working hard to remain relevant in Nollywood - with most of her films from Asaba and mostly on Compact Discs - the actress is determined to complete her education. Regina is currently an undergraduate of the Igbinedion University studying Mass Communication.

"I'm studying mass communication at Igbinedion University. I have a passion for entertainment and acting in particular, that is why I opted for the course," she hinted.

As a child, Regina shuttled between movie sets and school while facing different challenges. However, one of the challenges she remembers vividly was when a director doubted if she will ever make a name for herself as an actress. She said, "I was once told I can't act because I was asked to cry on a set and I couldn't so the director called my mum and told her that he doubts that I can act. My mum had to call me and told me how she believed in me and she also told me how to go about the scene."

Spending many of her days on movie sets between the ages of 6 and 17 had its side effect on Regina, who says she missed her childhood because she grew up too fast. "I grew up too fast, I didn't have the opportunity to explore like other kids because I never had friends, there was no one to mingle with and I would always find myself in the midst of adults trying to read scripts or my book on sets. That is why I'm so passionate about children," she opened up.

On May 27, 2019, a few days after her traditional marriage to Ned Nwoko, a Nigerian lawmaker and wealthy lawyer, Regina held her annual Children's Day event tagged 'Regina Daniels children day concert'. The concert had top Nigerian music acts like Patoranking, Zlatan Ibile, African China and MC Galaxy performing to a multitude at the government field in Agbor area of Delta State. The event further testifies to her love for children.

The cherubic actress sure has high hopes and one of it is featuring in a film alongside Hollywood superstar, Angelina Jolie. Regina says in the next five years, she intends to feature in films that will not only see her act alongside the 'Mr & Mrs. Smith' star but also get Oscar nominations.

"By 2024, I want to feature in movies that will be nominated for Oscars alongside my role model, Angelina Jolie. What I love about Jolie are her determination, acting ability, her carriage and most importantly, she's so sexy," she said.

From playing lawn tennis to playing the piano and cooking Ogbono soup - a local Nigerian dish - Regina reveals her hobbies and her likes.

"I love playing lawn tennis and I can actually beat Serena Williams. I swim smoothly and sexy. I like playing the piano. I find it very sexy and so matured for girls and I've always wanted to play the piano...I cook very well especially traditional soups. My favourite is Ogbono soup but I cook Okro soup, Egusi soup, but I love cooking Ogbono soup more," she revealed.

Rounding off her over 7 minutes long interview, Regina says she knows many of her fans and critics are waiting to hear her speak about her relationship and or marital status and she will be doing so on her YouTube page in the weeks. We await her next installment with baited breath.

Nigerian Catholic Priest Allegedly Suspended For Raping American Woman

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 07:18 AM PDT

Cyprian Duru

Nigerian Priest Cyprian Duru, has been suspended from ministering by the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh in the United States, after accusation of rape and legal action by a 68 year-old retired English teacher, Kathy Coll.

In addition, he has been banned from presenting himself as a priest or wearing clerical garb.

According to a report by CBS Television, Coll in a legal suit, detailed how Duru stopped by her home in December 2016 on the pretence of giving her a Christmas card and allegedly raped her.

Coll claimed that when she offered him a cold drink, he followed her to her family room, overpowered her and assaulted her as she screamed for him to stop.

Since then, Coll claimed she has been trying to seek healing from the trauma of rape; adding that the shame, anxiety and depression were daunting.

"The hardest part was telling my pastor, who sat and cried with me and then notified the diocese," Coll recalled.

Last week, she filed a suit against the St. Teresa of Avila Roman Catholic Church, the Pittsburgh diocese, and Bishop David Zubik.

Coll maintained that she was disappointed that District Attorney Stephen Zappala's office said prosecutors lacked sufficient evidence to pursue charges.

But the retired high school English teacher said her biggest disappointment was learning that a church she continues to love and turned to for help had scant resources for abused women.

"There were visits by the (Pittsburgh) Diocese Trauma Team to my house offering prayer and help to find a therapist. But I found out they really don't have anything for women who have been abused," Coll said.

Coll said a therapist the diocese recommended within minutes of meeting her declared that she was depressed, anxious and suffering from PTSD.

"He said, 'We'll get you on medication and four or five sessions here, and you'll be on your way.' I walked out of there after 20 minutes and never went back," she said.

Eventually, she found a therapist who helped her marshal her strength.

As she regained her footing in the world, the widowed mother of two adult sons resolved to doing something to help others.

Cosmas Maduka, Billionaire Businessman, Spotted Preaching On The Streets In Lagos(Video)

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 06:32 AM PDT

Cosmas Maduka

In a country where strange things happen every day and 16 is often greater than 19, few things can be counted as genuinely surprising or shocking. But the sight of a billionaire who wines and dines from the laps of luxury getting into the muck and preaching on the streets, shirt unbuttoned and face dripping with sweat like an itinerant crusader, certainly tops the list.

The man in question is none other than Cosmas "Coscharis" Maduka. For the uninformed, Cosmas is the founder and chairman of Coscharis Motors, the foremost automobile company in Nigeria and flagship brand of the Coscharis Group. Latest released figures put his net worth at approximately $800 million.

For such a personality used to having underlings ready to do any little bidding to stress himself occasionally is one thing. But to actually emerge onto the streets of Lagos, Bible in hand and interpreter by his side, to preach the gospel with unmistakable vehemence and authority is quite another. Once pictures of Cosmas preaching surfaced on social media, it predictably generated a lot of reactions.

Many were full of praise for the billionaire for descending from his high perch and "humbling" himself to preach the good news to the masses. They claimed his action is worthy of emulation by other big men and women who often turn up their noses at those they deem beneath their notice.

Others, however, dismissed the dude, calling his action a publicity stunt that gained neither him nor his audience any tangible thing. According to them, he is best served donating part of his huge fortune to the needy who would then be moved to embrace the gospel by acts of charity by its practitioners. Some even called it unnecessary noise pollution that has no place in public in 2019. They told him in no uncertain terms to mind his car business instead of competing with actual career crusaders.

Should Bride Price Be Tamed?

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 04:00 AM PDT

Should Bride Price Be Tamed?
With all the recent talk and trends about marriage, it appears people are beginning to have a second thought on the matrimony that socially or ritually recognised union between spouses.

Generally, marriage is attached to bride price, or maybe, let's say bride price is attached to marriage.

36ng came across this debatable topic on a popular Nigerian forum where the original poster sparked debate on Bride price and it's relevance in this century.

Read below and also make your contribution in the comment section…

Bride price is money and gift items that a man give out to a lady family to marry her, of cause it is like something in exchange for something, a business, a transaction.

Looking at the 21st century and the advocacy for gender equality, I think pride price completely has no place in today's world, women want equality but once a man paid for acquiring you you are more or less his surbodinate,

The argument of if he values you he will pay anything for you do not hold any water, it only hint at the fact that you are a material thing that is more expensive

The argument of your parent taking care of you is also baseless, his own parent took care of him too and your parents took care of their male children without expecting anything in return except from their child and this argument actually hint that your parent do not trust you to succeed and take care of them after all they've spent on you hence they are willing to cut their loss and cash out when any man comes calling

I think African parents/family are simply long throat and outrightly archaic, they are never willing to let go of the tiny gains for a better society for their daughter

Also it seems Africans cannot achieve anything on their own except their slave master (Whites) ask them to, if the slave master want to abolish pride price in Africa they would have, but Africa can't just do it on their own, I'm sure if not for the white killing of twins will still be here

Saying a man won't respect his wife if he doesn't pay to acquire her is a complete lie, guys don't pay their friends to be friends with them yet they won't undervalue their friends

The fact that feminists are not taking this matter up against their family still baffles me, there is even no NGO organisation against it yet thousands of NGO are up for women right and unwilling to attack its root cause

In as much as there is bride price, there can never be a successful and established women right, a wife will always feel like an employee to her husband the employer rather than a partnership business startup

Of cause since it is a game of money, the man will marry another woman or chase other girls if/when he can afford more than one person bride price

Women/ladies rise up against bride price, you are humans not commodity

NO MARRIAGE NEED BRIDE PRICE TO SUCCEED

Ella Mensah reveals her intention about Marriage

Posted: 09 Jun 2019 03:30 AM PDT

Ella Mensah
Ella Mensah Says She Is READY For Marriage

Ghana-born Nollywood actress, Ella Mensah has finally announced that she is ready for marriage, on her birthday.

Ella Mensah who is celebrating anniversary of her birth took to all social media platforms to flaunt her stunning pictures.

The actress, who is presently in New York, US, also used the day to pass a message across and it's something that will excite her would-be suitors.

"Now, I'm ready for marriage" she says and it doesn't appear to be a birthday joke. Ella is serious, dead serious.

Unlike previously in her life when she kept the truth about her job away from her suitors, she said she's ready to let anyone who wants her hands to know all there's about her.

"Usually, before I get serious with a guy, I don't tell him who I am. The kind of men I date are not on social media and most times they don't even watch movies. It's only after we've become really close that I let them know what I do and I've come to realise that there's always drama and all. So, from now on, whoever I'm going to meet must know what I do from day one. I used to keep it away because most people just want to be with you because you're an actress. That was what I was trying to prevent, but my next relationship, the person has to know from the onset and decide if he's ready to go on with me or not. When my ex got to know I was an actress, he would always call to know where I was, asked me to send pictures of where I was and speak with whoever I was with. It was just too much drama for me, so I'm going to let the next man I'll be with to know from the onset. But for now, let me just focus on improving myself," she once said in an interview with Potpourri.

But there's a reality check for whoever wants to rock Ella's boat.

"Why would someone give up their career for anybody? Did a lawyer, doctor etc give up their careers for anyone? I don't have to stop being an actress for someone to marry me. No, it doesn't make sense," she had said when asked if she could leave acting for marriage.

Adding to why she believes she's now ready for marriage, she said, " I'm on the right track and my life is stable now. Also, I want to have more kids."
