What will you do if your folks say no to the partner you've chosen to marry?

Posted: 07 Jul 2019 12:30 AM PDT

What will you do if your folks say no to the partner you've chosen to marry?
Judging by how much emphasis is placed on the blessings and sometimes, permission of parents on whom their kids would spend the rest of their lives with, the question above is a valid, important one with serious ramifications for people who ever find themselves caught between love and a parent's blessing.

We asked a couple of people to tell us what they'd do if they ever find themselves in this situation and here's what they have to say?

Seun
"You'll sit with your parents and understand the reason behind that. If it's lame or some personal, religious or cultural bias, then you can ignore them and try to convince them to accept her because you aren't leaving her."

Segun
"Really that would leave me in a tight spot. The job is to find out why they don't like her and convince them."

Dotun
"Of course we want our family to appreciate and like our other halves as much as we do, but if that is not possible as at that time, I will go all out with my partner and with time they (parents) will come around some day. As long as I like my other half."

David
av"Try to convince my folks. And then if they don't, realize that I'm really after who makes my body tingle."

Zara
"Sincerely, probably because I'm the rebel in my family, I don't care. I have come to realize that my choice of a life partner isn't based on whether or not my parents would like you. Because I have dated picture-perfect guys that are my parents' perfect idea of what my partner should be and they turned out to be TRASH!

"So my thing is, if I KNOW that this person loves and respects me and would make ME happy and make MY life a wonderful one, I really don't care if my parents like him or not. Laslas, na me go marry am. So please dears."

Feranmi
"Complicated. It depends on the reason they give for not liking her. I'm not dating her for them, but I also don't want a divided home where I'll have to choose a side. If their reasons are plausible, I might accept it.

However, those reasons are usually born of conservative standards. Before I take any girl to my folks, I must really love her. If I love her, then it means she ticks my boxes. So, whatever they say will probably be what I can work around. No amount of dislike will probably make me drop my partner."

Uche
"Depends how much I loved him. I would try and act like a peacemaker."

Edidiong
"It's going to be me against them because i won't be influenced by their decision. Why would my parents not approve of my partner when they don't really know the person? All I need from them is their support and love... if the marriage doesn't work out later, I'll face the consequences."

Emeka
"I would have still married her."

Shinny
"Marry him anyway, I didn't take him there for consent, I took him there for an Introduction not permission."

Shola
"The very first thing I will do is to ask why? I would have to listen to their argument on why they don't like her. That is the logical thing to do in my opinion before taking any other step, maybe if it's something she can change she change about herself."

Easy home remedies that will get rid of boils in no time

Easy home remedies that will get rid of boils in no time
They can grow to an unbelievable size when wrongly popped with a needle or pin, thus making the area surrounding the skin red and painful.

Boils are pus-filled bumps that form under the skin and are caused by bacteria that infect and then inflame hair follicles.
Beginning as painful red bumps that develop a pus-filled head as they progress, boils usually develop in regions of the body that experience friction or pressure, such as the face, armpits, groin, shoulders, and buttocks.

However, the safest and easiest to remove a boil, according to dermatologists, is to use a warm compress to speed up the natural drainage process. And this is because warmth helps increase the pressure in the infected pore as it slowly draws pus and blood to the surface of the skin.

That being said, we shall proceed with some of the home remedies for boils

Here are five home remedies for getting rid of boils in no time

1. Onion and fresh garlic

When using onion for boils, cut the onion in a thick slice, wrapped in gauze and placed over the boil or wound for one hour once or twice daily. However, if you're using garlic, pressed and the extracted juice applied to boil or wound for 10 to 30 minutes once or twice daily.

2. Tumeric powder

Turmeric powder has both antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, both of which can help heal a boil and get rid of it quickly. It's been used as a natural blood purifier for thousands of years in eastern medicine as a result.

You can choose to ingest turmeric powder, use it topically to treat boils or both.

To ingest it, boil a teaspoon of turmeric powder in water or milk, and drink it three times daily once cooled. To use it topically, mix turmeric with water and/or ginger to make a paste, and apply it to the boil at least twice a day.

3. Apply warm

Applying warm water is one of the oldest home remedies for boil: compresses and soak the boil in warm water. This will decrease the pain and help draw the pus to the surface.

Once the boil comes to a head, it will burst with repeated soakings. This usually occurs within 10 days of its appearance.

However, you can make a warm compress by soaking a washcloth in warm water and squeezing out the excess moisture.

When the boil starts draining, wash it with an antibacterial soap until all the pus is gone and clean with rubbing alcohol.

Apply a medicated ointment (topical antibiotic) and continue to wash the infected area two to three times a day and to use warm compresses until the wound heals.

4. Tea tree oil

Although the tea tree essential oil is that popular in this part of the world, it still doesn't change the fact that it has strong antibacterial and antiseptic properties, which can help to treat the bacterial infection causing the boil. Tea tree oil should not be applied directly to the skin, as it can have a burning effect.

Mix five drops of tea tree oil with a teaspoon of coconut or olive oil. Put diluted tea tree oil on a cotton swab it and apply it to the area two or three times per day. Do this daily until the boil is completely gone.

5. Castor oil

Various studies have shown that castor oil contains a compound called ricin-oleic acid, which is a natural but potent anti-inflammatory. This, combined with its powerful antibacterial properties, make it a great natural treatment for boils.

When using castor oil, apply a small amount of castor oil directly to the boil at least three times a day until the boil is gone.

Pawpaw: The health benefits of papaya seeds are unbelievable
Specifically, pawpaw seeds contain nutrients that help heal cirrhosis of the liver and improve kidney health, as well as preventing renal failure.

It is not for nothing that Christopher Columbus termed pawpaw, the "Fruit of Angels."
And that he did so cannot be surprising to anyone who knows the health benefits of the Fanta colour fruit.

Papaya as it is also known, carries some of the most incredible health benefits that can be contained in any fruit. Its leaves are as medicinal as any other leaf can be.

And when it comes to taking good care of our skin, pawpaw's skin can be very useful. Such is the richness of pawpaw that even its seeds contain some of the most surprising health benefits.

The health benefits of pawpaw will blow your mind

Specifically, pawpaw seeds contain nutrients that help heal cirrhosis of the liver and improve kidney health, as well as preventing renal failure. Its anti-inflammatory properties help treat arthritis and joint disease.

In addition, pawpaw seeds contain an alkaloid called carpaine that kills intestinal worms and amoeba parasites. And the papain in them helps in effective digestion of protein.  (However, you should avoid if pregnant).

It is also important to note that pawpaw seeds can prevent and cure a good number of ailments related to the liver, gut, intestinal worms, and even diseases like dengue fever.

Here are some of the unbelievable health benefits of pawpaw seeds

1. It heals liver disease (cirrhosis)

Owing to some of the vital nutrients contained in them, pawpaw seeds help heal cirrhosis of the liver. They also help to detoxify the liver and keep disease s at bay, by eating a small amount of regularly.

However, in other to treat liver cirrhosis with it, take 5 or 6 dried papaw seeds and grind them up or crush them and take them with lime juice.

Do this every day for thirty days.

2. Pawpaw seeds kill bacteria and heal viral infections

Studies have shown that a few pawpaw seeds kill harmful bacteria like E. coli, Staphylococcus, and Salmonella.

They also help fight viral infections, dengue, and other diseases. Additionally, pawpaw seeds mixed with milk are an excellent cure for typhoid fever.

And in Costa Rica, papaw seeds have been extensively used to fight aga (a condition that causes a progressive decline in mental functioning).

3. It helps to prevent kidney disease

According to professors from the University of Karachi, a public research university located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan, papaya seeds are said to be very effective when it comes to the treatment of kidney diseases

Results from studies carried out in the university show that pawpaw seeds can be used for treating kidney disease and preventing renal failure.

4. Pawpaw seeds minimize the risk of cancer

Studies have shown that pawpaw seeds minimize the risk of cancer. And this is because the milky sap that pawpaw seeds produce contains acetogenin.

Acetogenin, on the other hand, prevents cancer cells from growing in the body.

Other studies have also shown that pawpaw seeds and pawpaw leaves are effective in tackling cancer and preventing cancer from happening.

And in countries like Japan, most people drink pawpaw leaf tea with a little bit of pawpaw seed for a long period as it is believed to maintain a healthy body.

5. It prevents aging, as well as treating the skin problem

Pawpaw seeds do not only prevent aging, they also make our skin wrinkle-free. And this is because the nutrients contained in pawpaw seeds can help your body and your skin to rejuvenate better as some of the nutrients from the body will not be easily regenerated as the body gets older.

Studies have also shown that pawpaw seeds help in regenerating the old and dead skin cells, and by so doing, it helps to maintain the beauty of the skin.

How to eat pawpaw seeds?

Pawpaw seeds can be eaten raw, ground or crushed in salad dressings, milk, or honey.

It is, however, important to note that when it is eaten raw, which can be said to be the best way to eat it, pawpaw seed gives a strong, pepper-like but bitter taste.

Also important to note is that when eating pawpaw seeds, one should eat only small quantities of the seed and not very frequently.

All you need to know about the iconic Estee Lauder and Duro Olowu collaboration

All you need to know about the iconic Estee Lauder and Duro Olowu collaboration
Duro Olowu and Estée Lauder have unveiled an exciting new collection inspired by his brilliant clashes of colour and pattern.

The collaboration is between international premium cosmetics company Estée Lauder and celebrated Nigerian designer, Duro Olowu who is known for his vibrant and unique prints.

Estée Lauder describes the collaboration as "a dynamic new expression of fashion & beauty" and "made of pop prints inspired by London based fashion designer."

From the campaign, they selected model of the moment, Anok Yai , who is spotted looking sensational in a colourful Duro Olowu dress and a beauty look from the collection. According to Duro, the new collection is "..ageless, glowing makeup for all skin tones".

In an interview with Estee Lauder, Duro Olowu said the following:

Where do you get the inspiration for your prints?

My prints are inspired by my Nigerian, Jamaican, and British backgrounds, as well as my love of art. Over the years, I have developed a curatorial and enthusiastic knowledge of historic and contemporary fabrics and textiles from all over the world. The mixing and draping of printed fabrics and textiles is something I have been exposed to all my life in the places I have lived or on my travels. It has been a signature of my womenswear collections from the very beginning and remains an integral part of my work. Fabrics always tell a story, and, when mixed well, exude the kind of joie de vivre and allure I am constantly inspired by.

Can you describe the process for how you bring that inspiration to life in fabric?

The process comes together quite quickly. I start with small, playful but precise illustrations and sketches, which I then transform into varied larger patterns and prints. I then refine and select from them, depending on the theme of the collection I am preparing to show. The color palettes of my prints are often by inspired art and artists, including Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, Henri Matisse, Alma Thomas, Robert Rauschenberg, Alice Neel, Chris Ofili, Édouard Vuillard, El Anatsui, Lee Krasner and Toyin Ojih Odutola.

Can you describe what the process of creating a makeup collection was like for you? How did it compare to your process for designing a fashion collection?

It was rather organic and a lot of fun. I started by designing the packaging—slashing and mixing my prints from previous collections in a playful yet directional way. [These past prints] also inspired the colors and shades of the full range.

How would you describe your style/aesthetic?

International chic.

How has your aesthetic evolved over time?

Being trendy has never been of interest to me. I am interested in the culture of style and have always sought to create pieces that effortlessly stand the test of time. Most importantly, I design clothes to make women feel confident, alluring, and good in their own skin. What continues to evolve is the way I think about the needs of women in all of their amazing shades and body types. This is what is inspiring, and sometimes you just need to allow that inspiration to find you—wherever in the world that may be.

I wanted to create makeup that appealed to a variety of different ethnicities and ages. The process was a huge learning experience, and Estée Lauder was the perfect collaborator and great fun to work with. Creating the Estée x Duro collection has allowed me to share my international sensibility of style, and design in a way which is both imaginative and rather thrilling.

BBNaija2019: Isilomo reveals in Diary Task session that she loves Omashola
BBNaija housemate Isilomo, in her Diary Task session with Omashola, threw him off balance with her response to his question about who her likely love interest in the House is.

He certainly wasn't expecting the answer he got, because he remained speechless for a couple of seconds after.

Omashola asked;

"Is there anybody in particular in the Big Brother Naija House you have a thing for and you want to share with Biggie privately?".

"There are a lot of great guys here… while it's really early in terms of who I might want to gravitate to, but I think I like Omashola," She responded. "He has that grown man vibe and I am for grown men, not small boys."

A visibly stunned Omashola was able to regain his composure and change the topic of discussion before Biggie's buzzer went off.

Later on, Omashola went to ask Isilomo why she mentioned his name as her love interest in the House – while doing so, he also said, "I like you too".

The umbrella body of Nigerian students, National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Oyo State chapter, on Friday issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the management of the University of Ibadan, to reinstate the suspended President of the Students' Union Government, (SUG) of the institution, Ojo Aderemi, and four others.

The ultimatum was contained in a statement signed by Asubiojo Olujuwon, NANS JCC Chairman in the state, Daily Post reports.

"We have honourably sought for solutions. We have written the Vice Chancellor, made media appeals, made press statements calling his attention to these demands, because we sanely concluded that these are injustice and an assault to students legitimate rights and entitlements.

"We hope the university management will respect this, otherwise, University of Ibadan should expect what the strength of Nigerian students is, NANS, Oyo state uses this opportunity to inform UItes and Nigerian students in general to get ready for mass action."

The statement reads further that "NANS, Oyo state believes we have served enough diplomacy in this matter and we are so much resolute in ensuring our demands are met.

"These demands are at the interest, wish and rights of UItes, they are not negotiable, we have equally reviewed the language of the Vice Chancellor and UI management. They have shown us, UItes and the general public unreadiness to meet the demands."

The SAN's comment came on the heels of Atiku's reaction to the Supreme Court judgement on Friday that went in favour of the All Progressives Congress APC, and its governorship candidate in Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola.

The Supreme Court on Friday had dismissed the appeal of Senator Ademola Adeleke of the opposition PDP, challenging the declaration of Oyetola as the winner of the Osun State governorship election, Daily Post reports.

In his reaction, Atiku had said, "I urge the nation's judiciary to take a pulse of the nation and reflect it. In their hands, God has placed a great responsibility. The duty to ensure that justice is done, irrespective of the pressure to do otherwise, by the powers that be."

Keyamo, who replied directly to Atiku's tweet, said, "Your Exellency, with great respect, this comment is beneath you.

"The S/Court administers justice based on law and not on the 'pulse of the nation'.

"This is a veiled attempt to blackmail the S/Court. The Supreme Court will always do justice 'even if the heavens fall'. Remember Zamfara?"
