Actress Funmi Bank-Anthony ‘My grandfather had 48 houses in Lagos but willed nothing to us’

Actress Funmi Bank-Anthony 'My grandfather had 48 houses in Lagos but willed nothing to us'
Actress Funmi Bank-Anthony opened up on her family background and how it rubbed off on her in the decisions she takes, in a new interview.

The granddaughter of late Sir Mobolaji Bank-Anthony, also dispelled claims of riding on the name of her late grandfather to achieve some level of success in the movie industry. She said in the interview with The Sun,

Yes, the name is household but I don't think it has had any impact on my life and career. I can't go to any bank and withdraw money with that name. He has done his bit when he was alive. He had his name and I am trying to make mine too. I am not even half way where I want to be, even though it is a name people can easily associate themselves with.

Funmi Bank-Anthony further revealed that her grandfather willed his 48 houses in Lagos to the motherless, as she talked about taking up the philanthropic course;

It started with my grandfather, Sam Mobolaji Bank-Anthony. When he died, he wrote in his will that all his belongings be donated to the less privileged, even including the spoons. He had about 48 houses in Lagos and he declared that all be given to the motherless (children) and that is so huge for me, because I see it that he left us to suffer. If he had left the houses in Lagos for us, I would be a multi-billionaire today, even as a grandchild. He was one of the richest men in Nigeria and he didn't leave anything for us. That was deep for me. I see it that the things you boast of today can be taken away from you within the twinkling of an eye. It then dawned on me that I could lose the things I have. So, philanthropy came out of the fear of losing the things I have. So, I would rather give it out than lose them when I am gone, though some people take you for granted when they know you are excessively nice.

12 Bumps On Your Skin That You Should Never Pop

12 Bumps On Your Skin That You Should Never Pop
When you check your makeup in the mirror, only to spot a giant you-have-no-idea-what bump staring back at you, its tempting to go IN on your face. But experts agree that when it comes to most bumps on the face and blemishes on skin, a hands-off approach is most definitely best.

Popping anything causes your skin to physically break apart, making it more susceptible to infection and an even bigger problem than what was originally there in the first place, says Dendy Engelman, MD, board-certified dermatologist at Manhattan Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery in New York City. You're also pretty-much guaranteeing scarring and a drawn-out healing process if you don't resist the pop, says Noelani Gonzalez, MD, director of cosmetic dermatology at Mount Sinai West.

The best move is to stock up on derm-approved over-the-counter solutions or letting the professionals handle it right there in their offices with skin-safe lasers and gadgets you don't have at home. They're perfectly capable of preventing and treating these 12 bumps that you definitely should not be picking at:

Ingrown hairs
Frustrating? Extremely. Worth picking-even if you just shaved your bikini line ? Absolutely not.

The cause: Ingrown hairs occur when the hair shaft becomes trapped beneath the skins surface, says Joel Schlessinger, MD, board-certified dermatologist and RealSelf advisor.

The red bumps that follow are often itchy and inflamed, but its never a good idea to use tweezers or manual force to pluck them," says Dr. Schlessinger. Squeezing them will only make the inflammation and irritation worse, he adds. (Hello, red marks that last for months.)

The treatment: Apply hydrocortisone, which reduces redness, itchiness, and irritation-and wash the affected area with an exfoliating cleanser to help the hair reach the skins surface. If the painful bumps persist, Dr. Gonzalez assures you can go to a board-certified dermatologist who will nick the skin and remove the hair or inject it with steroids to reduce the inflammation. Pro tip so you don't have to deal with them at all: exfoliate before you shave and shave in the direction your hair is growing instead of against it.

Milia
If youve ever noticed tiny white bumps-known as milia -on your face that refuse to pop (no matter how hard you try), rest assured knowing it is truly un-poppable-at least without a dermatologists or estheticians help.

The cause: Milia is actually not dirt, oil, or grime-its a tiny, harmless cyst that occurs when dead skin deposits form, says Dr. Schlessinger, so you're not going to set any oddly satisfying gunk out of it. Picking at them often has little to no effect and attempting to pop them will likely leave your skin red, irritated, and inflamed, with the milia still intact, says Dr. Schlessinger. Ouch.

The treatment: If its bothering you, schedule an appointment with your dermatologist, who will likely extract it with a heated, sterilized tool, says Dr. Engelman. You can also use a retinoid cream to help smooth them out faster , although milia generally clear up on their own.

Skin tags
Skin tags are extra growths of skin that typically occur on the neck and underarms, says Joshua Zeichner, MD, director of cosmetic and clinical research in dermatology at Mount Sinai Hospital. But there are a few reasons why you shouldnt pick at them, he says: namely because skin tags are made from, well, flesh, and attempting to remove them will cause pain and bleeding. Dr. Zeichner says it could also increase your risk of infection.

The cause: They often occur in areas of friction, like around the neck, under arms, and by the groin and are thought to be caused by irritation from skin rubbing on skin or on clothing, Bruce Katz , MD, a dermatologist in New York City, has previously told WomensHealthMag.com . Dr. Gonzalez typically sees skin tags on her overweight patients or those who wear a lot of jewelry.

The treatment: This one's a job for a derm, says Dr. Gonzalez. A professional can remove tags by "freezing them off, also known as cryotherapy with liquid nitrogen, we can sometimes lightly burn them off with cautery, and usually, the most common thing is just surgically removing them by snipping them off," she adds. And if your skin tags are large enough to interfere with daily functioning, your insurance company might even take the bill off your hands, says Dr. Zeichner.

Cold sores
Unless youre looking to inspire a whole army of these bad boys, dont even think about touching them-no matter how much that cold sore looks like a pimple . "Picking at cold sores could very easily lead to the formation of another sore, and popping them releases a blister-like fluid that contains the same virus and can easily spread to other areas, says Dr. Schlessinger, including someone else's face.

The cause: The herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) are to blame for cold sores-and they're crazy-common, says Dr. Gonzalez. Seriously-50 to 80 percent of U.S. adults have oral herpes.

The treatment: Small sores can heal on their own with the help of OTC treatments. But if you notice cold sores popping up more frequently (or spreading to larger areas), Dr. Gonzalez says you should see a doctor for professional help for more aggressive medication and, if you have sores more than six times per year, preventative medication.

Keratosis pilaris
Squeezing or picking at these lesions causes worsening effects like redness and the potential for scarring as well," says Dr. Engelman.

The cause: Often referred to as chicken skin , this genetic condition is caused by a buildup of keratin-the protein that protects skin, hair, and nails from infection and other harmful environmental toxins. The buildup forms a plug that blocks the opening of a hair follicle, Dr. Engelman adds.

The treatment: Instead of getting your hands dirty, use a chemical exfoliant that has salicylic acid and glycolic acid, or products such as AmLactin and Lac-Hydrin to calm the inflammation and gradually smooth out the bumps over time, Dr. Gonzalez says. If that doesnt work, see a dermatologist or an esthetician who can properly treat you, recommends Dr. Engelman. Treatment options include the topical medication tretinoin (a.k.a. Retin-A) to exfoliate the area, pulsed dye laser to treat redness, and chemical peels, Dr. Gonzalez adds.

Blackheads and whiteheads
These might be some of the most commonly popped bumps-but keeps your hands off if you can.

The cause: Blackheads consist of the same thing as whiteheads-pores that become clogged with oil-except the oil has oxidized after being exposed to the air, giving it a black or brownish hue, says Dr. Schlessinger. Squeezing them forces the bacteria even deeper and causes trauma to the skin.

The treatment: The best ingredients in general for dealing with blackheads are treatments with salicylic acid and retinol. These exfoliants promote cell turnover, preventing dead skin cells from plugging up your pores.

To work the oil and dirt out without picking at your blackheads or applying pressure, use a face wash like over-the-counter exfoliant Differin Gel. It will work to bring the blackhead to the skins surface, leaving you with a fresh face in just days, says Dr. Engelman.

And look for makeup and skincare products that are oil-free and non-comedogenic , to ensure that what you're using on your face won't contribute to any future bumps.

Cystic acne pimples
This type of pimple occurs very deep in the skin, forming a red, tender nodule thats not only painful but much harder to treat with OTC meds . The inflammation that accompanies cystic acne can hinder the healing process and often lead to permanent scarring thats impossible to eliminate, says Dr. Engelman.

Picking at these bumps wont help, either. The cysts occur so far beneath the skin that you wont even come close to reaching the bump and youll be left with a bloody spot, says Dr. Schlessinger.

The cause: Cystic acne is caused by hormonal fluctuations and acne bacteria, Dr. Schlessinger told WH previously. High hormone levels trigger an overproduction of oil, causing pores to swell, and when this oil cannot reach the skins surface, it ruptures underneath and causes inflammation to spread to the surrounding tissue. Other causes include bacteria in hair follicles and slowed cell turnover in acne patients that lead to keratin buildups in pores, says Dr. Gonzalez.

The treatment: Instead of going at it with your fingers, book an appointment with your dermatologist who can properly treat the situation (usually in the form of a cortisone shot to instantly kill the swelling) and may even be able to save you from scarring altogether.

Seborrheic keratoses
Dr. Zeichner says seborrheic keratoses are rough brown bumps that typically occur on sun exposed areas like the face, chest, and back. And while you should be lathering up in sunscreen daily anyway, these bumps might still be in the cards for you since, according to Dr. Gonzalez, they're genetic. They're totally benign she assures, but they can get in the way since they can get caught in clothing and feel scaly.

The cause: These are solid growths of extra skin that build up on the surface of the skin, he says. While they are harmless, they are bothersome to many people both because of how they look and how they feel.

The treatment: Instead of trying to pop them, Dr. Zeichner recommends visiting your dermatologist if they become irritated or inflamed-your derm may even be able to get treatment covered through your insurance.

If you are bothered by the appearance, speak to your dermatologist about a treatment called Eskata , which is the only FDA approved treatment for them, Dr. Zeichner says. It is a topical solution that can get rid of them without leaving behind marks on the skin. He adds that treatments typically cost approximately $375 per session and take approximately two sessions to work; each session treats four to five spots. Otherwise, you can opt for cryotherapy to freeze them off or have them gently burned off, adds Dr. Gonzalez.

Lipomas
A lipoma is a fatty deposit underneath the skin that might feel like a cystic pimple. They're non-cancerous and generally harmless, although they can become painful if they grow too big.

The cause: Lipomas are typically genetically linked, so you can thank your parents if you notice one start to pop up, says Dr. Gonzalez.

The treatment: Even though Dr. Pimple Popper "pops" lipomas for her clients on the reg, you should not give it a try at home. Breaking open your skin will make it red, angry, and potentially let bacteria into the area making your problems even worse. Instead, your best option is to have a dermatologist remove it by burning it off or taking a laser to it to reduce scarring.

Cherry angiomas
These cherry-red benign bumps made up of tiny blood vessels tend to pop up on the face, chest, belly, and back.

The cause: Their cause is unknown but there is a genetic component that might make you more prone to getting them.

The treatment: Considering these are filled with blood, popping them is definitely not the move. However, removal is pretty straight forward, Dr. Gonzalez promises. A trip to the dermatologists office for a laser or a cautery treatment will leave you bump and scar-free (!!).

Sebaceous cysts
Another Dr. Pimple Popper fave, these skin-colored bumps are full of a yellow cheese-like material that Dr. Gonzalez says you probably won't want to see or a get a whiff of. They're typically benign and asymptomatic, but can sometimes become painful if they're "inflamed, infected, or if they get ruptured," she adds.

The cause: These pop up on areas of the body where there are oil glands thanks to a build up of keratin that randomly gathers under the skin.

The treatment: "Treatment-wise you have a few options," Dr. Gonzalez assures. You can have your derm inject them with steroids to help the inflammation go down and help the reduce the bump's appearance. Or your doctor can perform surgery to remove the keratin-filled capsule inside which is a pretty good option since the cyst is likely to become inflamed again unless it's totally removed.

Sebaceous hyperplasia
These are super-common small yellowish bumps that pepper the forehead or center of the face. They tend to appear with age and are often mistaken for pimples or skin diseases.

The cause: While totally harmless, the bumps, caused by an overgrowth of oil glands or sebaceous glands on the face, are usually bothersome appearance-wise.

The treatment : If you want smooth and clear skin again, Dr. Gonzalez says dermatologists can lightly burn these doughnut-looking bumps off with electrocautery, laser them off, or freeze them off with cryotherapy and liquid nitrogen.

Funniest Things Ever Asked About Sex, Sex-Ed Teachers Reveal

Funniest Things Ever Asked About Sex, Sex-Ed Teachers Reveal
Sex-ed can be a tricky thing-sitting in a classroom with your pubescent classmates while your teacher talks about the birds and the bees isn't the most enjoyable times, but it's also a necessary part of education.

Teachers who are tasked with teaching sex-ed are often pretty good at fielding questions from their students, but what happens when someone asks a question that's totally out of left field? A recent Reddit thread asked middle school sex-ed teachers so share the funniest questions they've ever been asked...and the respondents had some preeeeetty delightful answers.

One teacher said a student asked what they should do if they got an erection during school. Their reponse? "Sit down." Another educator said a student inquired about "if the semen knows how to jump to the vagina."

A bunch of teachers said they had received questions about if it's possible to break your penis (answer: yes), and one redditor who teaches fifth grade said they once got a hilariously bizarre question about what would happen if someone...poured cement in their anus (answer: bad things, we're guessing).

Some former students chimed in as well, with one user saying they once asked their teacher a puzzling question: "If a woman was with 2 men at the same time and one had an STD would the STD travel through the woman and infect the other man like a wire conducts electricity?" Someone else added that their classmate once asked: "If it feels so good, why do people scream?"

One user who taught sex-ed for 10 years shared a delightful roundup of past questions they'd been asked:

"Is it healthy to eat the booty like groceries?"

"Who is suppose to blow during a blow job ?"

"Is it still blue balls if it hurts but my balls stay kinda skin colored?"

"I heard that a Trojan War Horse is when a guy puts a lot of power in his push. Is that true?"

Oh kids. They truly say the darndest things.

How To Do Kettlebell Swings The Right Way

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 06:30 AM PDT

How To Do Kettlebell Swings The Right Way
Sometimes you need a good workout. Sometimes you need a fast one. If youre short on time, your most efficient bet for both is to crank out total-body exercises . One star move that fits the bill: kettlebell swings.

"Swings work almost every major muscle in the body," says Jacquelyn Baston, CSCS, owner of in Chicago. That includes your glutes, legs, core, shoulders, and pecs. Kill five birds with one stone? Yaaaaas.

How To Do Kettlebell Swings
How to: Stand with feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Hold a kettlebell in front of your body with both hands, arms straight. With a slight bend in your knees and a flat back, hinge at your hips and swing the kettlebell back through your legs. Use that momentum to stand and swing the kettlebell out in front of your body, up to shoulder height. Thrust your hips forward, and engage your glutes and core as you stand up straight. When the kettlebell hits shoulder height, your knees should be straight and glutes contracted in a full hip extension. Allow the kettlebell to swing back down through your legs. That's one rep.

Reps/sets for best results: Start with three sets of five reps, giving yourself no more than 20 seconds of rest between each set.

Kettlebell swings are fabulous for improving core stability and improving muscle imbalances.

Form tips: The emphasis in this move is on a hip hinge, not a squat, so make sure you have that movement pattern down before you pick up a bell, Baston says. (Try the good morning exercise to master this hinge.) And your core needs to stay engaged throughout the entire movement. A few other things to look out for: Dont round your back during the swing down, and dont over-bend your knees. Also, choose the right weight kettlebell: You want one on the heavier side since you need enough weight for momentum and proper force, she explains.

Benefits Of Kettlebell Swings
Kettlebell swings are a serious full-body movement . The glutes and leg muscles generate force while the core musculature, shoulder girdle, and pecs stabilize to control the movement, Baston explains.

Theyre fabulous for developing power, improving core stability , building endurance, and improving muscle imbalances (like shortened hamstrings and weak glutes ).

There are a few variations of this move, namely American Kettlebell Swings where you squat during the downward phase of the swing instead of hinging at the hips, and and a version where you swing the kettlebell overhead instead of ending at shoulder height. The latter is almost impossible to control without hyperextending your lower back, and many people lack the shoulder mobility to fully and safely extend a weight overhead in this manner, Baston says. Whats more, the variation used here-Russian Kettlebell Swings-allows you to use more power from your hips and legs, taking some strain off your shoulders as well.

Make Kettlebell Swings Part Of Your Workout
Dont be fooled by this seemingly simple fluid motion-kettlebell swings (and kettlebell workouts, for that matter) are intense. Because it engages so many muscles and is dynamic in nature, you need adequate recovery time to prevent injury, Baston explains. That means at least one day of rest in between picking up a bell again. Plan to work kettlebell exercises in general, not just swings, into your routine up to two or three days per week.

Use the move's intensity to your advantage by including it in a HIIT workout , ideally paired with pushups , planks , and squats (all bodyweight movements).

Want a complete HIIT workout? Try this routine:

When you work your strength up, you can move on to single arm swings and double kettlebell swings (thats a weight in each hand), Baston says.

Whatever way you choose, you'll get an awesome total-body workout-just keep swinging.

A No-Nonsense Diet Helped This Guy Get Fit

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 06:00 AM PDT

Unhealthy eating habits while playing football caused Tyler Licht's weight to climb past the point of obesity. After deciding to lose weight before college, he committed to a more restrictive diet and started working out five days a week. Since then, he's completed a dramatic 130-pound weight loss transformation.

In high school, Tyler Licht, a 19-year-old college student from Mountain Home, Arkansas, played football. His coach thought that, as a lineman, bigger is better-which it is, at the line of scrimmage. And Lichts parents were both great cooks. So throughout his late teen years he slowly packed on pounds, fueled by big meals and lots of sugary soda. The extra weight left him lethargic, with frequent headaches and sickness. At his heaviest he had 312 pounds on his 511 frame. He was 18.

Licht wasnt happy with himself, and as high school ended he resolved to do something. My turning point was when I realized that college was about to start and I really didnt want to be the big guy any more, he says.

Inspired by a , he tackled his diet and started working out. He started counting calories, restricting himself to 1700-1800 a day. I didnt worry too much about what I was eating macro-wise, he says, but cut out drinks with calories and fast food. He hit the gym, with lifting and cardio-his earlier years of football workouts made it easy to get back into the groove. Soon he was lifting 5-6 days a week, and doing cardio 4-5 times a week.

Now, about 16 months later, hes lost more than 130 pounds. Hes down to 180 pounds, and thanks to a program called The Buff Dudes Cutting Routine. While 180 is a respectable weight for someone whos 511," hes looking to drop another ten pounds, then work on strength and muscle mass.

Already, the response from people around him has been dramatic. Former high school teachers dont recognize him. Girls, he says, are a lot more talkative and casual around me. And hes healthier, too. His headaches are gone; he doesnt have knee pain from carrying all that extra weight. He can climb stairs and generally feels more capable of physical activity.

As for advice about how to follow in his footsteps, Licht says its all about finding some kind of exercise-even something small and simple-that you can really dedicate yourself to doing routinely. My biggest advice for someone starting out is to find an active activity you like doing and immerse yourself in that, he says. Keep at it, and you too will see the gains.

Is This Wifi-Equipped Barbecue the Future of Backyard?

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 05:30 AM PDT

Is This Wifi-Equipped Barbecue the Future of Backyard?
Theres something ceremonial about the act of barbecuing.

You wake up early to light the coals, dawn breaking over your cooler where inside a brisket , rubbed lovingly with seasoning, still rests. You tinker with the temperature, opening vents and adding coals, until, and maybe even after an hour of struggle, you hit the 225F sweet spot.

Over the next eight hours (give or take two hours) you arise only to assess the temperature of cooker, to refresh your drink of choice , and perhaps, if so motivated, to pull a few weeds. Mainly you sit, watching the faint blue smoke waft up and into the air, and wait for time and temperature to work its magic on the meat.

Or at least this is how barbecuing used to transpire for me before the Traeger Ironwood 650 Black Wood Pellet Grill plunked down all 146 pounds of itself onto my driveway.

The Ironwood, you see, is Wifi-enabled. That means you no longer have to babysit your brisket. That means you can set a specific temperature and as long as there are pellets in the hopper, the augur will maintain that temperature. That means that an app, downloaded onto your smartphone, can alert you, via a temperature probe, when your brisket is ready.

All you have to do is set the thing up.

Which, to be honest, is a bit of a chore. Before your first cook, you have to assemble the Ironwood (complexity and duration of construction is on par with a medium-sized IKEA product), fill the pellet hopper, find a place close enough to a grounded outlet to plug it in, and plug it in.

Should you want to use the Wifi option (dubbed WIFIRE) youll have to download the Traeger app, connect to Wifi, and name your smoker, which is fun. I chose Bubba.

Now Bubba wasnt like any smoker Ive ever used to barbecue. For me, and for most backyard BBQ enthusiasts, its the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker and only the Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker, otherwise referred to as the Bullet for its size, shape, and ability to send you to heaven.

But I was willing to give Bubba a shot. Over the course of several months, I smoked racks of ribs, split chickens, potatoes, asparagus, and even a big bowl of nuts just to see what would happen.

The ribs came out just fine; the chicken even better, with skin as crisp as a potato chip. I undercooked the potatoes (my fault, not Bubbas), but the asparagus turned out perfect al dente tender. The nuts, infused with aroma of cherry wood, were glorious.

But it wasnt until I followed the advice of Traegers Chad Ward, Director of Marketing BBQ, and did rib eye steaks on the Traeger that I began to understand the power and appeal of the Ironwood.

Ward told me to do a reverse sear on the steaks, which meant to set the Ironwood to 225F and coax them to an internal temperature of 125F. Once the probe alerted my smartphone app that had happened, Id crank the temp and allow the exterior of the steaks to broil.

I could have done all this on my Weber, sure, but not without the precision accuracy and careful monitoring conducted by the Ironwood.

You can attribute this precision, in a large part, to pellets as fuel. Because pellets are small compared to, say, a hunk of hardwood charcoal, they help the Ironwood finely tune its temperature.

The other, smaller part you can attribute to alleviating user error. With smartphone app alarms, its hard not to miss when your BBQ has reached a critical stage of doneness.

Those steaks I pulled off Bubba where the best Ive had all summer. The texture was nearly brisket-like in tenderness, requiring barely a touch of a tooth to melt in my mouth. Though they had been on Bubba less than an hour, the rib eye possessed a deeply smoky quality that added a layer of flavor, yes, but also heightened all the others.

At $1,200, the Ironwood 650 is on the upper end of backyard smokers (a 18 Bullet costs $330 nowadays), but that seems like a small price to pay for a potential lifetime of those steaks.

All this said, through my multiple cooks with the Ironwood, I cant say Bubba and I ever bonded like me and my Bullet.

The Ironwood 650, Ward admits, is for the barbecue eating enthusiast who maybe doesnt have the expertise or time of the barbecue cooking enthusiast.

You dont even need a secret recipe to make phenomenal BBQ on the Ironwood. All you have to do is follow one of the recipes within the database on the Traeger app. Its plug-in, dial-up, heat, and eat.

I missed the ceremony of barbecue.

For me, those early mornings spent hovering over the temp gauge of my Weber, listening to the birds and feeling the dew slowly soak my shoes, is an escape from the connected world. Or, rather, the Internet-connected world.

Instead of staring at screens, I tend to a fire-a primal activity that tires and exhausts and oftentimes frustrates, yes, but one that also leaves me feeling more centered and accomplished when that brisket hits the table.

Chris Pratt's Body Transformation Through The Years is Amazing

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 05:00 AM PDT

Chris Pratt's ability to make us laugh hasn't changed much at all throughout the years, but his body certainly has. (.) A shirtless Pratt in his latest movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, has revealed some impressive abs from the Hollywood star, a far cry from the body we saw during the Parks and Recreation days.

While Pratt isn't the first movie star to undergo weight fluctuations throughout the years (case in point: Jonah Hill ), it looks like the "Fit Chris" has a pretty good chance of sticking around for a while. Many of the more recent roles Pratt has taken on have required him to get into shape, starting with the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

So what's the secret to Pratt's success? Looks like a combination of lowering the beer count, some serious gym time, and a knack for being cast in roles that require the guy be ripped. Hey, if your job is dependent on you having a six-pack , it probably makes it a little easier to get yourself motivated to get your sweat on . And it appears that this trimmer Pratt won't be going away any time soon. He's currently filming for two sequels that kept him in top shape: the newest Avengers as his GOTG character, Star Lord, which is scheduled to be released in 2018, and the Jurassic World sequel, also scheduled for a 2018 release.

Pratt's role Zero Dark Thirty had him built- but by the time the movie premiere rolled around in 2012, Pratt had packed on some extra pounds .

Pratt had packed it on, and we're not talking muscle. Check out this Instagram post, which documented his weight from around that same time.

Who could forget the lovable Andy Dwyer from Parks and Recreation? While literally anything Pratt said or did made us laugh, he was a lot different from the ripped Star Lord of today.

The change started when Pratt took on the role of Star Lord in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, which was release in 2014.

He's stayed pretty consistent since, dropping fat and building a lot of muscle.

And here's the most recent of him, at a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premiere in Tokyo, looking very trim.

Chris Pratt is living proof that change can actually happen. If you're ready to lose fat and build lean muscle, check out Superhero Shred from trainer Don Saladino, the man who has helped build Hollywood's biggest bodies.

These Big Guys Prove That Everyone Can Run

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 04:30 AM PDT

Tyrone Alomia remembers exactly when he started running in May 2011. He was working at the old Nike flagship in New York City, and his boss challenged him to run a 4-mile New York Road Runners race around Central Park. Alomia was standing at 6-foot-2, 330 pounds at the time, and the race would be the first four miles hed run in his entire life.

He saw how unhealthy I was but knew I had potential, he tells Mens Health. At the time, I couldnt even run a few blocks without stopping. In a total downpour, the Brooklynite finished the race without slowing to walk once. Six months later, hed complete his first marathon in under six hours. Nine years later, the 32-year-old is now down 30 pounds and on the cusp of breaking that 2-hour half-marathon barrier, his loftiest goal.

Running is both the hardest and most rewarding thing you can do for yourself, he says. I came from a neighborhood where health and wellness isnt the first priority on everyones list. But when I found running, I became better.

Strength In Numbers
If you ask Alomias friends Jason Suarez, Hector Espinal, and Emmanuel Rodriguez how they feel about the sport, theyll all express similar feelings. Finding running has made a major impact in their lives, too. These four guys-whove adopted the nickname (panza the word for belly in Spanish)-weigh almost a ton combined. Recently, they teamed up to relay both the North Face Endurance 50K Challenge and the Brooklyn Mile, the native New Yorkers arent slowing down anytime soon-at least not because of their size. If track and field had weight classes, technically we would be world record holders in the 4x4, Suarez captioned of the squad after their 6:06 Brooklyn Mile relay finish.

The former collegiate 47-second 400-meter runner admits that getting out on the road can be a hurdle in and of itself -but doing it shirtless when youre a bigger guy is an entirely different challenge. Even so, his crew helps to cut down his doubts and insecurities.

Why am I any different? There shouldnt be a double standard.

These guys, theyre getting me to be more comfortable in my own skin, he says. What I was able to do in high school and college, Ill likely never do that again. Im letting go of the past and looking forward to whats to come. Doing it with my friends every week makes it better. He tells Mens Health his goal is to cross off all six world marathon majors by the end of 2023, qualifying for Boston as his last.

For Espinal, running-and doing it with his shirt off-is a no-brainer at this point. Would you tell that to a dude thats 6-foot-1, 105 pounds, to cover up if he had his shirt off? he asks. Why am I any different? There shouldnt be a double standard.

Why Not Me?
Now, they guys are making an impact on others. Founder of , a running crew out of Upper Manhattan and the Bronx, Espinal remembers logging his first-ever runs at night about six years ago, running the 20 blocks down and back from 165th and Riverside Park. Now down almost 100 pounds, he wants those hesitant to lace up and move to ask: why not me?

For the people who look at me and wonder if they can run, too, youve gotta ask yourself: Why not do it now? he says. Are you stopping because of what someone else thinks? Is the cab driver gonna heckle you? Are you worried about running into someone you know? Its nice when people tell me that I inspire them, but I want them to find inspiration inside too.

Rodriguez agrees. I want to touch people, he says, telling Mens Health. I want to open a conversation. Youre an athlete just as you are. Dont let anyone try to define that for you.

These guys are strides ahead of most men when it comes to embracing their size and the body positivity movement. that 38 percent of guys would give up a year of life for the perfect body, and guys tend to be quieter about their body negativity, or holding off on treatment longer than women due to shame.

Most guys have an unattainable cultural ideal that being tall and muscular equals strength, which creates internal discomfort, consternation, and negative emotions-all of which then can lead to serious health problems, says , Ph.D., VP of Movement, Research and Outcomes at Alsana. Most think that it's more masculine to suck it up, not talk about it, deal with it yourself, and pretend everything's fine.

Giving Bigger Guys the Road
As a 300-pound runner, Alomia thinks that there needs to be more of a dialogue about what the athletes you dont see on magazine covers need. Look at almost any brand out there, and they dont make clothing that fits me as an athlete, he says. I have wide shoulders and a big chest, and the way that the marketing is-its hard not to wonder, Am I supposed to be doing this, being this big?

"No matter what anyone else thinks about me running. Im going to do this regardless.\"

For Rodriguez, thats a resounding yes. Catching his breath after the June mile on Kent Avenue, he got a text message from an old coworker that read you make me feel comfortable about running in a tank top. Ive always been self conscious about my body, but youre changing the way people think, man.

I just want to run, says Rodriguez. No matter what anyone else thinks about me running. Im going to do this regardless.

As for whats next for these four athletes? Suarez and Espinal are both signed up for the upcoming Chicago Marathon in October. Rodriguez and Alomia are taking on the Philadelphia Half together in November. And after that? Well, it wont be long until the Pansa Boyz team up, all four of them, to conquer the next finish line-no shirts required.

This Best Fat-Burning Workout Program is 50% Off

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 04:00 AM PDT

If you want to burn serious body fat, you won't need any equipment - just 10 minutes or less, some space to move, and the determination to push yourself to your limits.

This workout wont be 7 minutes in heaven. In fact, itll feel like pure hell.

Unlike the average workout where you spend about 30 seconds working at a time, the Shred Set shown in the video above maximizes every second of your training. Your goal is to go all-out for 7 minutes-7 exercises, 1 minute each-with no rest.

Its intense, but the workout forces you to spend as much time working as possible. The training density melts more fat during and after your workout, stimulates muscle growth, and increases muscular endurance than many hour-long gym workouts. Those are the principles I followed when I designed RIPTENSITY , a program that targets fat and aims to help you get into the best shape of your life.

The reason you can pack so much work into each minute? I programmed the Shred Set so that you switch between a lower-body move, an upper-body move, or a cardio move in a total-body athletic metabolic circuit. The same muscle group isnt continuously being worked, so it can recover while another body part works.

This Shred Set is a great indicator of your overall fitness, too, since it targets your entire body, challenges steady-state cardio, recruits your fast-twitch muscle fibers, and works your muscles in multiple planes of motion.

If you can accomplish all of this in just 7 minutes, then just imagine what you can do with multiple Shred Sets back-to-back. Do the Shred Set listed below 3 times in a row, resting 1 minute between each set.

Or you can increase the intensity of the movements, making the variations more difficult every round.

Directions: Perform each exercise in a row for one minute each with little to no rest.

  • Lateral squat to reverse lunge skip
  • Inchworm with pushup
  • Running foot fire
  • Squat pulse to reverse lunge
  • Kick-through pushup
  • Reverse lunge to front kick
  • Burpee to hip switch

Arnold Schwarzenegger Just Responded to Donald Trump's Remark That 'He Died'

Arnold Schwarzenegger Just Responded to Donald Trump's Remark That 'He Died'
Reports of Arnold Schwarzenegger's death have been greatly exaggerated. The actor is very much alive, and is in fact in such good health that he has become the very latest person to clash with President Donald Trump on Twitter.

Trump was the one to suggest that the Terminator star was no more: the "death" to which he referred was in the ratings of reality show Celebrity Apprentice, where Schwarzenegger took over from Trump as host. Hunter Walker, the White House correspondent for Yahoo News, reported that Trump said of his successor: "Arnold Schwarzenegger ... You know what? He died ... I was there."

Arnold Schwarzenegger ... You know what? He died ... I was there. - President Donald J. Trump - Arnold Schwarzenegger is, in fact, alive - Hunter Walker (@hunterw) July 11, 2019

Arnie himself saw the quote, and decided to tweet that he is "still here," just in case anybody was wondering. He also included a quip about Trump's tax returns.

Im still here. Want to compare tax returns, @realDonaldTrump ? https://t.co/lMQHsE1bQK - Arnold (@Schwarzenegger) July 11, 2019

Moving swiftly on from that dig, the former Governor of California then took the opportunity to draw his followers' attention to the issue of gerrymandering. "Instead of being distracted by television ratings, lets fix our politics," he tweeted. "The only way to drain the swamp is by letting the voters pick their politicians, instead of continuing to let the politicians pick their voters. #terminategerrymandering"

Instead of being distracted by television ratings, lets fix our politics. The only way to drain the swamp is by letting the voters pick their politicians, instead of continuing to let the politicians pick their voters. #terminategerrymandering https://t.co/EVsSC34QSU - Arnold (@Schwarzenegger) July 12, 2019

Gerrymandering is a process which alters the boundaries of an electoral constituency so as to favor a certain political party. It is a process which "disenfranchises voters, draws our elected representatives to ideological extremes and... is one of the biggest hurdles to an effective and responsive system of government," according to an op-ed authored by Schwarzenegger for USA Today this week.

Schwarzenegger served as the Governor of California from 2003 to 2011, earning himself the nickname the "Governator" after his most famous film role. He has since returned to acting, reprising the role of the T-800 in Terminator: Dark Fate . And if him recently getting drop-kicked at a sporting event taught us anything, it's that it takes a lot - more than low TV ratings, anyway - to take Arnie down.

Rejoice! Dr. Pimple Popper is back ! Season 3 of the horrifying-yet-strangely-addictive show premiered on TLC Thursday night, and viewers got to see Dr. Sandra Lee, MD tackle some pretty gnarly skin conditions.

Throughout the hour-long episode, Lee treated a patient named Jennifer with huge keloids on her ears from piercings-gone-wrong , and a patient named Juliet with steatocystomas and eruptive vellus hair cysts on her neck and clavicle area . She also met a patient named Gerald with a shockingly-large growth on his left middle finger, but she wasn't able to help him-at least, not in the span of the first episode.

Amid all the Twitter fanfare around the season 3 premiere, the show's star was tweeting some reactions of her own. Lee live-tweeted the episode, and shared some behind-the-scenes photos of all the blood- and pus-filled action.

Here's what Jennifer's left ear looked like after Lee removed the keloids. (On this side, Lee was forced to remove more of the patient's normal ear than she expected. She ended up doing a skin graft to help restore its old shape.)

A Crucial Detail About Billy in Stranger Things 3

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 02:30 AM PDT

Warning: This post contains spoilers for the third season of Stranger Things. Stop reading NOW (!!!) if you haven't seen it yet.

Billy dies after making a sacrifice in the Stranger Things 3 finale.

But he made another move much earlier that significantly changed the way the season would play out.

A user on Reddit drew attention to this interesting detail.

We're all still getting over the ending of Stranger Things 3, and coming to grips with how everything played out. While much of the discussion has been on Hopper, and the aftermath of his sacrifice- Is he really dead ? Could he be coming back ? was there a hint in the letter ?-one Reddit user made a very astute point about something Billy did early in the season that had a major butterfly effect on the rest of the season.

The post starts out discussing Billy's sacrificing himself to the Mind Flayer, defying its possession as his final act, protecting Eleven and the rest of the others in the process. What is astutely pointed out was that this wasn't the first time Billy defied the Mind Flayer-as you might recall, earlier in the season, when he was first dealing with the possession, there was a moment where a vision flashed of Billy smacking Mrs. Wheeler in the head, presumably flaying her, adding her to the hive afterwards. He did not give in to this, instead resisting, and telling Mrs. Wheeler to stay away from him.

This is key, the theory states, because had Billy infected Mrs. Wheeler, it would've been a pretty easy next step to get the rest of the family, specifically Mike. If Mike had been flayed, that would've been a very easy way to reach Eleven, which would have doomed everything. By defying this initial urge, the theory state, Billy stopped a path to certain doom right in its tracks.

Other users commented on the theory, with one noting that Billy likely saw some of his own mother (who clearly was very important to him; Eleven letting him know that she knew about her was what got Billy to snap out of it) in Karen, which struck a chord. "It also speaks to his character because Karen with her blonde hair and of course mom aura likely reminds Billy of his own mother. After seeing the flashbacks it is apparent that he loved his mom dearly. So thank you inner Billy. You will be missed."

Obviously, Billy starts out the movie wanting to sleep with Mrs. Wheeler, and while tempted, she decides she couldn't do that to her family. While there are clear freudian elements at play here, another user noted the clear reference to the movie playing in Hawkins: Back to the Future, where the main character famously gets romantically tangled up with a younger version of his mother.

After a year as a secondary villain in his first season, it was compelling to watch Dacre Montgomery play the different versions of Billy this season, from the real version of him, to the possessed version of him, and finally the torn version at the end. The different layers revealed to the character were a great touch to what was a really entertaining season of television.

The Rock Just Shared a Throwback Photo of His Grandfather With Wrestling Legend André the Giant

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 02:00 AM PDT

The Rock Just Shared a Throwback Photo of His Grandfather With Wrestling Legend André the Giant
Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson just shared the ultimate throwback photo which shows that being awesome isn't a new development in the family, but something that goes back through the generations. In an Instagram post, Johnson revealed that his grandfather was a good friend of French wrestling legend Andr the Giant. Talk about legends supporting legends. (Literally. It looks like Andr is actually sitting on him.)

"What a crazy throwback from the 70s," he wrote. "Heres the 8th Wonder of the World Andr the Giant, using my 315lb grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia as a booster seat and making my granddad look like a little boy. They were the best of friends, wrestled nightly, tough as hell and as you can see by their smiles and open energy - they lived life to the absolute fullest. My grandfather died when I boy so I never got to know him as a man. Wouldve loved to have raised a tequila with these men. Wouldve also loved to have wrestled them too - those wouldve been fun ass kickins for me to take."

Andr the Giant, a.k.a. Andr Ren Roussimoff was a World Heavyweight Champion with the WWF (now WWE). In 1987, the same year that he took on his rival Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III, Andr won over a whole new host of fans with his most famous film role, playing Fezzik in Rob Reiner's fantasy adventure film The Princess Bride alongside Robin Wright, Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest and Fred Savage. He died of congestive heart failure in 1993.

This isn't the first time Johnson has used social media to share stories about his grandfather. Back in 2013, he shared a photo of Maivia, a Samoan-American wrestler who was inducted posthumously into the WWE Hall of Fame, calling him the "toughest man in the history of wrestling." He also tweeted in 2017 that Maivia was the inspiration for Maui, the folkloric figure he played in Disney's Moana .

In April this year, Johnson shared a photo of Maivia's tombstone in Hawaii, where he was spending some "alone time" with him and his grandmother, captioning the image: "Alofa forever in our hearts." That's not a typo, he didn't mean aloha: alofa is the Samoan word for love - something Johnson seems to have in spades.

3 reasons to forgive when a partner cheats on you

Posted: 14 Jul 2019 01:00 AM PDT

Here are some three reasons why you might want to forgive and keep the relationship going after a partner cheats?

Cheating is an ever-present scourge on the dating and marriage culture we have here – and any other part of the world for that matter.

Such is the difficulty people apparently encounter in staying with one partner that the very concept of monogamy and its applicability to human beings has been called to question over and over again. But of course, that conversation is one best not had here. So, we'll sidestep it and get to the gist of this piece.

What's next when a partner cheats on you? Do you dump them and move on? Or do you look for a way to mend bridges and move on from that episode. Is there any reason to not send such partner packing?

Yes, there are. And while leaving a cheating partner remains a valid choice should you choose to do that, here are some three reasons why you may want to do the opposite of it; that is, forgive and keep the relationship going.

Genuine remorse
Cheating is not a mistake. That bit is undeniable. Anyone who cheats would have very likely thought it out and planned it before executing the heartbreaking action. Regardless, we can't discount the truth in the fact that when someone does this, there is also the possibility that they would regret the action and seek out a way to fix what they have done.

If your spouse has been committed to repairing your marriage or relationship, it's worth forgiving them. They clearly want to make things work and understand the mistakes they've made. They'll have to work really hard to regain your trust and make it right again. But if they are willing to walk down that long road, you should be willing to meet them halfway, with open arms and the gift of forgiveness

Is it worth saving?
Frankly, this may be the biggest of all the tips on fixing a relationship after one partner cheats. You know your partner more than anyone, and you have the details of your relationship and the work, effort and all that has been poured into it before the point when your partner decides to do something that would jeopardise and piss it all away.

Considering all of this, do you consider the relationship worth saving? Do they want to keep it, too, or is the cheating just emblematic of their decision to let go of everything? Is there enough left to salvage? Do you think there is a chance that the relationship could move beyond the cheating

Forgiving isn't just continuing the marriage holding on to anger and hurt, it's actually letting go and actively practicing trust again. Your spouse will never be able to make you heal, even if they're trying hard to regain your trust. Only you can decide to heal then pursue healing.

A one-time thing
Some partners are serial cheats, and some are not. If the problem is an anomaly and not business as usual, it's worth trying to work things out.

For instance, if a person messes up and they've never done this before, it's worth working it through especially if your partner expresses remorse.

If we are being honest, there is nothing to say they won't do it again, but then, if you are good with taking that chance on them, then show a little faith and give them a second chance to prove that they want the relationship with you.
