One the the BBNaija 2019 housemates, Seyi, is now the new Head of House for week seven. The 2019 edition of the BBNaija show seems to have grown on fans as they are now more interested in the day to day activities of the housemates. Religion is no doubt very prevalent in Nigeria as the average citizen holds their beliefs very dear to their hearts and do not even mind coming off as offensive to those they consider as unbelievers.  Well, young comedian, Gloria 'Maraji' Oloruntobi, recently took to her Instagram page to preach her religion, Christianity, and a number of internet users have not taken kindly to it as majority of them termed it distasteful. Maraji had taken to her page to share that Christianity is the only way to heaven and stated categorically that all other religions, including Islam won't get anyone to eternal glory. Post Below:  Her statement is not one that's new in the world when it comes to conflict in religious beliefs but netizens are disappointed that the young influencer choose the day when Muslims are celebrating their annual "Salah" day to share her stance. This week's nomination took a different turn as Biggie introduced a new twist dubbed the 'Nomination Challenge'. According to the rules of the challenge, the entire losing team would be automatically up for possible eviction. At the end of the 2 rounds, the 2 teams, 'Cruisetopia' and 'Icons' had a tie. To settle this, Biggie asked each team to present a final representative and Sir Dee represented 'Icons' while Mike represented Cruisetopia.  Just as bound to happen, one team had to lose and unfortunately, it turned out to be 'Icons'. Immediately, the winner of the nomination challenge was revealed, Sir Dee broke down in tears as he felt he had left his team down. Luckily for him, his friend, Diane held the veto power and she immediately did a 'save and replace' She saved Sir Dee and replaced him with Joe.  This didn't ease the guilt in Sir Dee's heart and upon his return to his room, fellow housemate and team member, Khafi, had to console him as his tears knew no end.  | ||

Recall that last Monday, Biggie had introduced a new twist called the Nomination Challenge which replaced the nominations. The housemates were divided into two camps and for a week, they went head to head with each other in a nomination challenge in a winner wins it all challenge. The rule was that the camp that loses the challenge would have all the members of the camp automatically up for possible eviction. Each team picked 3 representatives for the challenges. Team Cruisetopia picked Jackye, Joe and Mike while Team Icons picked Omashola, Cindy and Sir Dee. Well, after the challenges were over, Team Cruisetopia had a total of 16 points while Team Icons had 15 points. Team Cruisetopia won the Nomination Challenge and thus, that meant Team Icons were automatically up for Eviction this Sunday. Team Icons have Tacha, Cindy, Elozonam, Enkay, Frodd, Ike, Khafi, Omashola and Sir Dee. Seyi was immune as the HoH of the week as well as Diane who was the Veto Power Holder, who saved Sir Dee and replaced him with Joe. The final list is now Tacha, Cindy, Elozonam, Enkay, Frodd, Ike, Khafi, Omashola and Joe.  | ||

According to reports, the less than 2-year-old baby was left by his mother in the car, with glasses wound up. After over half an hour, the baby was seen by passerby crying and gasping for breath. The incident which occurred at Computer Village, Lagos had people concerned. Some social media users have opined that the woman must be a first time mother and must have had no idea that such actions could have killed her baby.  | ||

An 80-year-old woman said to have been raped by unknown persons was, on Monday morning, found lying on the floor, dead, inside her house with her mouth stuffed with clothes.The octogenarian, Jedidah Wanjiru, according to a Kenya's news medium, Daily Nation, had bruises on her neck, suggesting that she could have been strangled to death.The sad incident reportedly occurred at Kanyange village, Kirinyaga County, in Kenya.The family is now crying for justice following the brutal killing of their kin, report said.Report said the door of the old woman's house was not broken and family members suspected that the killers could have stormed into the house on Sunday night before the victim, who lived alone, went to sleep.The victim's son, Stephen Weru, told Daily Nation that he went to milk cows for her mother and found the door wide open and became suspicious that something was amiss. "When I entered I saw my mother in the bedroom lying dead and I was shocked," Weru said. According to report, he hurriedly informed other family members and the matter was reported to Baricho Police Station. Moments later, report said police arrived at the scene and took the body of the woman to Jamii Hospital mortuary. Also, the woman's brother, Mr Muriuki Kamakia, speaking with Daily Nation, said nothing was stolen from the victim. "I think the killers were only interested in killing my sister because all the house goods were found intact," Kamakia said. The eldest son of the victim, Mr Joseph Wachira, was quoted as saying: "We want the matter investigated and the killers brought to book." Daily Nation reported that the Assistant Chief Moses Muriuki said he was at home when received a report that the old woman had been killed. "When I heard what had happened, I rushed to the scene only to find the victim inside the house dead," Muriuki said. The administrator said the motive behind the heinous act could to be immediately established. He asked the residents to cooperate with the police and volunteer information which could lead to the arrest of the killers.  | ||

All tweets by the account have since been deleted and his profile picture and header image have been taken down. The account which no longer shows up in Twitter query was said to have been suspended, retrieved and unverified — all in less than 24 hours. The Vice President's office is yet to give any reasons for this. There are speculations that the account became unverified after attempts by some persons to hack it.   | ||

The Trade Union Congress in Ekiti State has called on the Nigeria Federal Government to ensure that negotiations on the new minimum wage do not go beyond Wednesday, August 14.According to TUC, via a statement by it's Ekiti State chairman, Sola Adigun, the government had been accused of "foot dragging the implementation even when the private sector has expressed readiness to pay".Adigun, who reiterated organised labour's commitment to the new wage, said, "The struggle for the implementation of the N30,000 minimum wage is total. Anything beyond August 14 will leave labour with no choice than industrial action.""Any government that is serious about fighting corruption will pay living wages to its workers."The labour leader also urged governments not to extort workers by overtaxing the little increase on the wages, saying high tax regime should be imposed on wealthy Nigerians, PUNCH reports. | ||

Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, IMN, also knowns as the Shiites, has arrived Abuja.He was moved from Kaduna with his wife Zeenat, where they had been in protective custody.This is ahead of their trip to India for medical attention.According to TVC News, their passports and other travel documents are now ready.It was gathered that apart from security personnel who are to accompany the Sheikh, family members would also be on the trip.The latest development is believed to have followed federal government's intervention to douse tension over the Shi'a leader's health. It would be recalled that Kaduna State Government had released conditions that must be met before El-Zakzaky would be allowed to leave Nigeria. Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, in a statement, said though the state government will appeal the ruling of the Kaduna High Court ruling allowing El-Zakzaky to travel, it will not seek a stay of execution because it believes that people should have access to treatment. In reaction, legal luminary, Femi Falana criticised Kaduna government's stringent conditions. The lawyer to the IMN leader, in a statement, said: "I thought that the Kaduna State government had planned to appeal against the order of the Honourable Darius Khobo granting leave to the El-Zakzakys to travel to India for urgent medical treatment under the supervision of the government. "I hope that the plan to pursue an appeal in the case has been shelved as the Court of Appeal has ruled that you cannot stay the execution of orders of this nature. That remains the position of the law as espoused in the case of Mowarin v Nigerian Army, which was decided under a military dictatorship in the country. "The so-called agreement is totally alien to the penal code and the administration of criminal justice law of Kaduna State. Hence, the agreement is not brought under any substantive or adjectival law. "My colleagues in the Ministry of Justice are not unaware of the position of the law that an agreement cannot vary or modify the order of a competent court. It is unfortunate that some highly placed public officers are so hell bent on abrogating the fundamental rights which have been fought for and won by Nigerians, even under the British colonial regime. "For instance, the Prison Ordinance was amended in 1917 to allow the family members or friends of prison inmates to remove them from prison and take them out for medical treatment, if the prison facilities could not cater for any terminal illness. That provision has been incorporated in Regulation 12 made pursuant to the Prisons Act. "In this instant case, the court did not release the El-Zakzakys to their family members but that they should be treated in a foreign hospital under the supervision of the government. "Since the Department of Service Services (DSS), which has the custody of the El-Zakzakys, has announced on behalf of the Federal Government that the court order would be obeyed, the so-called terms of "agreements" of the Kaduna State government should be ignored because it is the height of provocative contempt."  | ||

The Nigerian Army officer who gave the order for the killing of three Police officers and a civilian, who were transporting a kidnap kingpin, Hamisu Bala Wadume, have been arrested.According to a report by Vanguard, the officer, a Captain, was arrested by the Army authorities, on Sunday, August 11, night after he was invited by the panel set up to investigate the incident for questioning.A source within the Army said the kidnap suspect who was freed by some soldiers - along Ibi-Wukari road - who were allegedly compromised.It was also gathered that the Captain ordered the soldiers to shot at the bus conveying Wadume with an instruction that no police officer in the vehicle escapes while the kidnap suspect is freed."Our colleagues (police operatives) also exchanged pleasantries with the army personnel at the checkpoint before they pursued then on the captain's instruction and fired at them," the source said.According to the source, the road to Ibi village is a narrow and only road that leads to the area. "That was why when the policemen encountered the soldiers at the three checkpoints, they introduced themselves and stated what they came for. They chatted, joked and exchanged pleasantries," the source said. The source added that the arrest of the suspect was made by the Police within 20 minutes and while they were returning soldiers at the first and second check points inquired from them if they were already through. The source said the soldiers and operatives know each another, but the phone call from a top military personnel changed the whole scenario. However, another military source said the team of the inspector general of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) were attacked at the second military check-point in the village causing the driver of the vehicle to loose control under the series of gun fire. The source explained that some of the officers who managed to crawl out of the vehicle into the bush path were immediately shot dead by the soldiers at close range after they realised they were still alive. It was gathered that residents who crowded scene of the incident went wild with jubilation, after been informed that the slain police officers were kidnappers. However, the teaming crowd saved the lives of two other officers who survived the gunfire by the soldiers. The source said, it was gathered one of the soldiers reportedly told his colleagues that killing the surviving officers would be too risky as the villagers already captured them alive on their smart phones. "When the operatives got to Ibi town, they booked their arrival at the police station and proceeded with assistance from a policeman attached to them in the state headquarters, Jalingo, to trace and arrest Alhaji Hamisu Wadume, who is wanted because he is linked to several kidnappings in Taraba state, including a recent kidnapping in which N100 million was collected as ransom," the source noted. It was gathered that information went out to the captain after the Police officers left Jalingo that his friend Wadume had been kidnapped. "Without any verification or inquiries, the Army captain ordered his men along the highway to ambush the policemen. Thus, as the team was moving along Ibi-Jalingo road, they came under the hail of bullets from soldiers, which led to the vehicle conveying the policemen somersaulting." "Thereafter, two policemen and one civilian agent were shot dead by the soldiers at close range. The policemen were shot despite presenting their police identification cards, and also adorning police jackets," the source said. According to him, all the IRT Police team were alive when the vehicle somersaulted. He said that two operatives, Inspector Mark Idiale and Inspector Abah Mathias, had serious bullet wounds and are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital Wukari in Taraba state. "It is believed that Wadume and other members of his gang escaped with him to a location outside Ibi Town." "One AK47 rifle and two pistols belonging to the late police officers were carted away by the gang members of Wadume who came to the scene with the soldiers, while two of the police AK47 rifles are with the soldiers as admitted by one of their personnel at the scene,'' the source said.  | ||

The Pepper Dem gang had taken on the Munch It Challenge for the prize of two million Naira and dinner on a canoe. The Challenge which started shortly after the Housemates woke up included several Challenges to test the Housemates' creativity, wit and dance moves. Recall that Ike and Mercy had had issues earlier that had more to do with personal issues than the dance. The main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been reported to have won all the seats in the Bayelsa Local Government polls held over the weekend in an election allegedly characterised by low voters turnout.According to a THISDAY reporter, who visited some polling units in Yenagoa, Kolokuma/Opokuma and Sagbama, only a handful of voters were seen performing their civic duty.The PDP defeated all the smaller parties, which took part in the poll organised by the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) to claim all the eight local councils and 105 Councillor positions.Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Seriake Dickson, had earlier described the election as peaceful, free, fair and credible after casting his vote at Oruere-wari polling unit 05, ward 2 in Toru Orua, Sagbama LGA of the state.The All Progressives Congress (APC) had pulled out of the contest, saying the process and the leadership of the commission were not credible.But Dickson said that though the APC boycotted the council polls, over 30 political parties contested the exercise and expressed joy that there were no security issues. Announcing the results yesterday, the Returning Officer, Mr. Frank Ebikumor, disclosed that Mr. Dengiye Ubarugu of the PDP polled 42,539 votes to defeat ADC, who polled 1,031 votes in Kolokuma/Opokuma. In Southern-Ijaw, the Returning Officer, Dr. Nwiwu Johnson announced that Mr. Nigeria Kia of the PDP scored 107,150 to defeat the AD candidate who scored 2,489 votes. For Ekeremor council, the Returning Officer, Dr. Victor Ayibatonye, announced that Chief Perekeme Petula emerged winner with 62,529 votes, noting that other parties had no vote. In Sagbama , where the governor hails from, the Returning Officer, Dr. ThankGod Apere, said that Mr. Alah Embeleakpo, had 96,468 votes as other parties had no vote. As for Brass council, the Returning Officer, Mr. Timothy Ogiaba, stated that Mr. Victor Isaiah of the PDP scored 28,667 votes, while LP scored 2,948 votes. The Returning Officer for Ogbia LGA, Mr. Ebiye Ogoli, announced that Mr. Turner Ebinyo of the PDP scored 17,661 votes to defeat the ADC candidate who scored 1,017. In the state capital, Yenagoa, Dr. Good-head Abraham declared Mr. Uroupaye Nimizuoa of the PDP winner with 98,831 votes to defeat Mr. Lawrence Kwokwo of ADC, who scored 636 votes. The Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission, Dr. Remember Ogbe, in his comments, described the process as peaceful.  | ||
