WHAT IS 'RISE'?
Do you have an active project that's focused on creating global impact? Are you looking for additional support and resources to grow your reach? Apply now to win University of Maryland's nomination for the international Universitas21 (U21) RISE Competition! U21's RISE (Real Impact on Society & Environment) is an international showcase of student achievement in sustainability and social innovation designed to accelerate the scale and impact of student-led projects by connecting them with a network of experts in academia and industry. RISE welcomes current projects that focus on global challenges - such as affordable and clean energy, gender equality, quality education, or clean water and sanitation - as outlined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

UMD is one of 27 members of the U21 network, which brings together research-intensive universities from six continents to exchange knowledge and perspectives. To select University of Maryland's nominee for the official, international RISE Competition, the Do Good Institute and the Office of International Affairs are hosting this preliminary, campus-wide contest.
ELIGIBILITY
Current students and recent graduates (December 2017 or later) are eligible to apply. For details on what types and stages of projects qualify, see the U21 RISE guidelines.

Fed ECON Jobs: Research Assistants

Research assistants play an essential role at the Fed and are presented with substantial opportunities for professional and intellectual development. Working side by side with economists, RAs participate in the application of economic theory and empirical research methods used to inform economic policy debate. Along the way, RAs develop strong quantitative analysis, critical thinking and writing skills – marketable skills useful for pursuing career opportunities and advanced studies in a variety of fields.

WHAT THEY DO 
RAs help economists prepare briefings on current policy issues, work on staff economic forecasts, and write summaries on economic conditions.

RAs support economists with scholarly research projects, gather and analyze large datasets, and program economic models.
CAREER TRAJECTORY 
Many RAs go on to top graduate schools in economics, law, public policy, and political science, while others take exciting jobs at the Fed or elsewhere. Through on the job experience, attending seminars, training and tuition reimbursement programs, RA positions provide you with a solid foundation for whichever career path you pursue. Most RA programs require a two-year commitment.

Economics Internship at the Food and Drug Administration

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) invites undergraduate juniors or seniors, or master's students majoring in Economics, Public Health, or other Statistics-related field to apply for an internship program with the Economics Staff in the Office of the Commissioner. The intern will assist members of the Economics Staff in conducting economic analyses of major FDA policies and regulations related to food, human drugs, medical devices, biological products, tobacco products, and animal drugs and feed.

Internships will be for one academic semester and require a minimum commitment of 16 hours per week. Intern positions are unpaid; however, students may be able to earn college credit.* U.S. citizenship is required.

Candidates are required to have completed classes in intermediate microeconomics and econometrics (or a similar class on computational methods for data analysis). Candidates should be detail focused, have strong communication and writing skills, and be able to work independently. Candidates with experience in statistical packages such as Microsoft Excel, STATA, R, or Python are encouraged to apply.
