SERAP writes Minister over failed $460m CCTV projectSocio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sent a request on the back of Freedom of Information (FoI) right to Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, asking her to urgently furnish it with information on the total amount of money expended to contractors from the $460 million loan obtained in 2010 from China to fund the apparently failed Abuja Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) contract.In the letter, SEEAP has noted that the Federal Government has continued to pay the loan.SERAP urged the Minister to "disclose specific details of local contractors, if any, that have received funds from the loan for the CCTV contract, reportedly awarded to China's ZTE Corporation, as well as the implementation status of the project."..........READ FURTHER HERE>>>

The main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is highly excited following the large turnout of party faithfuls at Saturday's launch of the Kogi governorship election campaign in LokojaHowever, to the event, there had been reports of apprehension on the part of some key chieftains of the opposition party over possible attack by rival parties during the campaign, forcing the leadership of the party to embark on the rally with caution, The Nation reports.Some key chieftains of the party were reported to had initially stayed away to observe field reports before coming out to the Lokoja Stadium, venue of the event, because the anticipated violent attack did not occur.In a statement yesterday by its spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan, the highly elated PDP, said the "unprecedented crowd" that surged at the official launch of its campaign despite threats of violence by the All Progressives Congress (APC), was a resounding declaration by the people that nothing would stop them from kicking Governor Yahaya Bello out of office on November 16."The crowd is also an unmistaken demonstration of the fact that Kogi remains a home to the PDP, which will further manifest in PDP's landslide victory at the November 16 election."The party notes that the earthshaking jubilation and ovations that greeted the PDP candidate, Musa Wada and his running mate, Sam Aro, established the people's confidence and preference for the PDP and its candidate, over and above Yahaya Bello, who has failed them on all fronts. "The PDP has been made aware of the gloom, hopelessness and dejection in the Bello camp, which is depleting by the day, following Wada's soaring popularity and acceptability across the voting demography across Kogi State. "Yahaya Bello is gradually coming to terms with the fact that he will soon find himself standing alone to face his inevitable prize for failure and disdain for the people of Kogi State. "Governor Bello now knows that the people of Kogi State cannot be intimidated by threats of violence, neither can they be bought, enticed or beguiled with filthy offers. They have since made up their minds to repay Bello in his own coin for the pain and anguish he inflicted on them in the last four years and nothing can change this resolve," the PDP said. The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum, AYCF, on Sunday spoke on the petition forwarded to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.Yerima Shettima, the President General of AYCF, reacting on Sunday, said Nigerians should not expect the EFCC to prosecute Tinubu, Daily Post reports.Deji Adeyanju, the convener of Concerned Nigerians, had on Friday submitted a petition to the EFCC to investigate Tinubu over the source of money allegedly conveyed in bullion vans to his residence during the 2019 Presidential election.Deji said: "To the best of our knowledge, Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a private citizen who ordinarily should not be seen with a convoy of Bullion Vans."The commission would recall that it was reported all over the news that Bullion Vans allegedly containing an undisclosed amount of cash were seen entering the home of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor of Lagos State on the eve of Nigeria's presidential elections. Tinubu himself admitted to this fact while responding to questions by journalists."What are Bullion Vans doing in the house of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu? "Who owns the content, believing to be cash in the Bullion Vans that were seen entering the house of Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the eve of Nigerian presidential elections? "Has the commission, based on its core mandates, investigated the source of the Bullion Vans? Adeyanju called on the commission to swing into action and begin an investigation into the appearance of those Bullion Vans. "We cannot as a nation have two separate rules for fighting corruption, one for those opposed to the ruling party and another for supporters of the government, " he said. The Arewa Youth leader, however explained that EFCC may not go ahead to probe Tinubu because of his affiliation with the ruling party. According to Shettima: "It's an allegation and all Tinubu needs is to come forward and make clarifications and I just hope that the so called institution which is the EFCC would do the necessary thing by looking into the issue. "There is nothing wrong if there is an allegation and somebody is petitioned and there is nothing wrong in Tinubu coming out to make clarifications, there is nothing extraordinary in this matter and I see nothing coming out from this petition especially coming from the quarter it's coming from. Simon Bako Lalong, the Governor of Plateau State, admits honouring his late uncle, Miskoom, Stephen Sule Nanbiet, whose name he said, he used in his credentials.However, this is now being contested by the opposition candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Gen. Jeremiah Useni (rtd) at the election petition tribunal.The Governor, who was at the memorial service of late Nanbiet at the Sacred Heart Cathedral Shendam, accompanied by his wife, Regina, said he grew up with him and used his name partly before he obtained an affidavit for change of name, The Sun reports.Lalong siezed the opportunity to give more insight into the controversy surrounding his names which is being contested at the election petition tribunal by the candidate of the PDP in the last governorship elections.He said in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Dr Makut Simon Macham said: "When my uncle asked my father to release me to him, my father told him that he had become your son, take him with you. Because of the kind of tradition of love and oneness that exists in our culture, all of us under him bore his name, Sule, because he registered us in school."It was when I finished school that my uncle said now that you are grown up and since you are the first male child of your father, you need to bear his name. That was when I did an affidavit to take on my family name Bako. But unfortunately, my opponents are making an issue of it even when the tribunal rejected their arguments." The New Chief of staff to Kogi state governor, Asuku Jamiu Abdulkareem, has reported that Simson Achuba, the impeached deputy governor of the state, forgot his charms at the government house as he hurriedly moved out of his official quarters following his impeachment.Abdulkareem revealed this via his Facebook Page that the charms were found during an inspection of the impeached Deputy Governor's Quarters, PoliticsNigeria reports.This is what he posted: "Forgotten juju item by impeached deputy Governor of Kogi.
