Commendably, Davido did not tire throughout the 3-hour set

On December 28, 2019, Nigerian superstar, Davido contributed his quota to detty december by holding, 'A Good Time With Davido' at Eko Atlantic City.

The event commenced with performances from Lil Frosh, B-Red and DJ E-Cool. Around 1:30 am, the singer came onto the stage to roving hype from Special Spesh, the roar of an excited crowd of all ages and the 'finally' feeling. He was dressed in all black - a shiny jacket and a cap.

As the performance progressed, Davido thrilled fans with perfect doses of excitement, intensity and contemporary appreciation. He traveled back in time for songs like 'Dami Duro' and brought it a little forward to 'Ekuro' and then further forward to 'IF' 'Blow My Mind' and 'Risky.'

Commendably, Davido did not tire throughout the 3-hour set. He was also backed by an amazing bang - especially his guitarists who brought songs to life with effortless melodies from their magical fingers that strum so good. Before each song starts, his band creates its own version of that song's intro. By the time the actual song comes on, the anticipation builds and fans lose their minds.

Seeing as it is Davido, the intensity of the show didn't drop once. It was a nice touch to bring out a veteran trying to relaunch himself in Sinzu or Lady Donli, the budding singer who has had an amazing 2019. Sinzu thrilled us to 'Carolina' and the cult classic, 'E Don Dey Madt.' It was amazing that the crowd on the day didn't know the latter song.

For Donli, she performed the spanking remix to her song, 'Cash' with Davido. Then, Mayorkun, Peruzzi, Yonda, Dremo, Wurld and Zlatan came on stage. For Zlatan, he continued a bromance by bringing out Speed Darlington AKA Speedy AKA Akpi.

The show had very little downsides by there were two. The first one is how the sound guys could have done better with Davido's mic for better sound production. It's no news that Davido's voice is hoarse and he needs extra effort to get it heard on stage. The sound guys could have found a solution that allows his voice sound better.

Davido had to strain unnecessarily on the night. Secondly, Davido put excessive pressure on himself by carrying the show almost singlehandedly. He performed most of his successful collaborations with other acts, but those acts never showed up. It's good to want to carry a show independently, but sometimes, it gets a little tepid.

But then, there are the sentimental moments that Davido gave two students - a guy and a girl - one million Naira each. He also tried to control his crowd and urged people not to fight. But then, in the VIP section, a guy stole one girl's iPhone. Luckily for him, another guy was watching him 'move' the merchandize from the girl's bag and into his pocket.

After he had completed the operation and moved, the 'onlooking' guy followed him and gave him two slaps. He also recovered the phone just as other drunk onlookers and 'thief haters' doled out their bits of jungle justice - slaps. Sorry Davido, we couldn't help it - oops.

Wizkid swears to get justice for his fan killed by police officer

Wizkid swears to get justice for his fan killed by police officer
Wizkid - Onetribemag

Wizkid, Nigerian super star, has vowed to get justice for Babatunde Ramon Adeniji, man killed by a police sergeant, Lukman Akanbi on Friday, December 27, 2019.

Adeniji was reportedly returning from Wizkid's concert around 4.am on Friday, when the police officer accosted him.

According to media report, the police officer shot Adeniji dead following an argument between him and the 39-year-old  fan of Wizkid.

Reacting to Adeniji's death through his official Twitter account, Wizkid vowed to get justice for the deceased.

He tweeted, "I won't stop till we get justice".

The artiste thereafter appealed to police officers to stop killing Nigerians.

"Nigerian police! Protect us! Not kill us! I'm so so sorry guys. I'm so broken right now," he tweeted.

However, the police officer involved in the dastardly act has already been arrested and dismissed by the Police Authority.

Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, in a statement on Friday, said that the State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered the arrest of Akanbi for orderly room trial.

The PPRO said, "The Commissioner of Police Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the arrest of Sergeant Lukmon Akanbi, F/No 448407, attached to the Victoria Island Police Station over the shooting of one Ramon Adeniyi, 39, of campus area Lagos Island. The incident happened on Friday, December 27, 2019, around 4.20am around Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island, Lagos.

"There was a fracas between the Police Officer who was on patrol at the area and the victim who was returning from an event. The Police Officer was said to have pulled the trigger of his pistol on the unarmed civilian, which falls short of professional standards on the use of firearms.

"The victim was rushed to the Naval Dockyard Hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty. The Police Sergeant was arrested and detained at the Provost Department, Command Headquarters, Ikeja. He was subjected to internal disciplinary proceedings known as Orderly Room Trials."

Elkana said the police officer was found guilty of all the charges during the trial and was dismissed from the Nigeria Police Force.

Meanwhile, the PPRO added that Akanbi has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, for prosecution in conventional Court.

How did MFM Pastor, Dr Olukoya get himself into this mess?

How did MFM Pastor, Dr Olukoya get himself into this mess?
Pastor Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya

There are times when silence seems to be golden especially among those who lead an army of followers either in the political, social or spiritual circle.

The more a leader tend to lend his voice to every subject, the more controversies he springs up and this will either make or break such a leader.

Dr. Daniel Kolawole Olukoya, the fire brand general overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry had really got himself in a deep mess and there seems to be need for a serious fasting and prayer from his camp to orchestrate another national controversy, probably from the political arena that will swallow up the one he had just created.

But for now, Dr Olukoya and his entire church are in the eye of storm and they are being tossed around with criticism and condemnation for not being able to keep quiet when it matters most.

He practically stirred the hornet nest and the bees have descended on him. Olukoya should have just restricted his message to the business of that Wednesday, "Manner Water" and leave the birthdate of Jesus out of the matter.

But he needs to register his voice against the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ which he suddenly perceived to be unbiblical, idolatry and got messy for it.

Since Wednesday the man of God has set the social space ablaze with his comment that condemn the celebration of the birth of Christ on December 25th, he has been receiving bashes from his so call colleagues within the Christendom.

Of course, pastor Olukoya has every right to select the passage of Bible that fits into his ministerial philosophy, but condemning a practice that has been in existence before Christianity was brought to Africa really calls for concern.

MFM is not the only church that does not believe in the celebration of Christmas. Other churches like Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Seven Days Adventist, Jehovah Witness and a handful of other denominations do not celebrate Christmas.

But none has ever counted it a sin on others that choose to honour the date neither did they publicly proclaim it unbiblical and idolatry.

Dr. Olukoya dropped the bombshell without minding the consequence. He practically set up himself and the entire church for criticism and got himself into trouble.

Pastor Olukoya should be reminded that if God decided to be keeping a record of sin, nobody, even the men of God would be able to stand.

As at today, no one has been able to open a chapter of the Bible where any of the early Apostles operated an institution that was unaffordable to their followers. Bible only recorded how they shared what they had among themselves and none of them lack anything.

Presently, Mountain Top University is one of the most expensive private universities in Nigeria and from a reliable findings, most students in the school are not from the church. They are children of politicians and top bureaucrats who amass public wealth for personal use.

To him, there seems to be nothing wrong with that, neither is it unbiblical. As long as money keeps pumping into the church coffer, the ministry continues to march on and the gate of hell can never prevail.

Although, the church through its public Relations Officer, Collins Edomaruse had issued a statement to establish its position on the controversy but rather than assuaging the matter, it got it more complicated.

What pastor Olukoya really needs at this juncture is a public apology for insulting the collective intelligence of billions of Christians across the world who have been celebrating the birth of Jesus even before Nigeria came into existence.

Until this is done, the sin of misinterpreting the Bible and misleading the people will forever be hung on his neck.

Edo State Politics: Oba of Benin champions prayers for state

Edo State Politics: Oba of Benin champions prayers for state
Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin

Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin,  has urged traditional rulers in the state to fast and pray for peace in the state ahead of the Edo governorship election in 2020.

The Royal Father, gave the charge at the quarterly meeting of Edo Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs in Benin on Saturday, News Agency of Nigeria, NAN reports.

The Oba said the prayers and fasting should go along with offering of sacrifice to Almighty God and their ancestors.

Ewuare, who is the chairman of the council, emphasized that the call for prayers had become necessary in view of the current political crisis in the state, a situation, which he stressed had "become a serious concern to everyone".

The Oba said that he was sure that the state would be peaceful in spite of the current face-off among the political gladiators

HRM reiterated the need for traditional rulers to continually maintain absolute neutrality as fathers to all.

"And as royal fathers we must act within the ambit of the law," he said.

Oba Ewuare further urged traditional rulers and chiefs not to allow the labours of the founding fathers of their traditional heritage to be in vain. (NAN)

Netanyahu wins Israeli ruling party’s leadership vote with landslide

Netanyahu wins Israeli ruling party's leadership vote with landslide
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel

Benjamin Netanyahu, incumbent Prime Minister of Israel, was announced Friday as the  Israeli ruling party primary election winner.

According to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria, Netanyahu won with a landslide victory in the primary, ensuring his leadership of the right-wing party in the national elections in March.

The official results released by the Likud in the morning showed that Netanyahu won 72.5 per cent of the party members' votes while his rival Gideon Saar, a lawmaker of Likud, gained 27.5 per cent of the votes.

Netanyahu claimed victory just before midnight Thursday, writing on Twitter: "Great victory!"

"With God's and your help, I will lead the Likud to a great victory in the upcoming election and we will continue to lead Israel to unprecedented achievements," he said.

In a broadcast statement, Saar congratulated Netanyahu for his victory and said that he would support Netanyahu and the Likud in the upcoming national elections.

"I am absolutely comfortable with my decision to run.

"Whoever isn't ready to take a risk for the path he believes in will never win," he tweeted.

Saar, a veteran politician and former education minister, was widely seen as posing the hardest challenge yet to Netanyahu's decades-long chairmanship of the Likud.

The embattled Israeli leader is facing criminal indictments in three separate corruption scandals in which he is charged with bribery, fraud, and breach of trust.

However, Netanyahu denies any wrongdoing and says the charges are part of "a witch-hunt."

As the Israeli longest-serving prime minister, 70-year-old Netanyahu failed twice to form a coalition after the last two national elections.

The primary results mean he will stay in office at least until March 2 when Israel will hold a new round of national elections.

The unprecedented elections will be the third time Israelis would cast their ballots in fewer than a year, as a political deadlock has paralysed the Israeli political system over the past months. (Xinhua/NAN)

Nigeria is sinking, Obasanjo raises alarm over impending bankruptcy

Nigeria is sinking, Obasanjo raises alarm over impending bankruptcy
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo

Chief Obasanjo reveals that, as at March 2019, Nigeria's external debt had risen to $81.274bn.

The former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has condemned the rate at which the Federal Government of Nigeria continues to take loans for projects, stating that the country is sinking under the weight of debt.

He stated further that things might get worse for the country because the Nigeria needs 50% of its foreign earning to service the debts.

Obasanjo said he's very disturbed for the future generation, who will inherit the loans.

The former president disclosed this on Friday, December 27, 2019, at an event in Lagos, where he presented a paper titled 'Nigeria: The Challenges of Debt and Sustenance of Democracy.'

According to Obasanjo, Nigeria's total external debt as at 2015 was about $10.32bn.

He added that by March 2019, the country's external debt had risen to $81.274bn, adding that Nigeria needs at least 50 per cent of its foreign earnings to service such level of indebtedness.

"Such a situation talks about an impending bankruptcy. No entity can survive while devoting 50 per cent of its revenue to debt servicing", Obasanjo warned.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo says as at March 2019, Nigeria's external debt had increased to $81.274bn.  (Guardian)

"It has recently been pointed out that in 2018 that total debt servicing took over 60 per cent of government revenue. What's more, we are not doing enough to address the fundamental, deep-seated and structural challenges that inhibit the expansion of our economy".

The ex-president went on to criticize Nigeria's political leaders, saying they have developed appetite for debt.

"Our political leaders have suddenly developed not just a taste for, but a voracious appetite for debt.

"As usual, most of such debts procured are hardly thought through.

"Predictably, ability to repay such debts is lacking.

"Unfortunately for us and unlike in the past, the new creditors are less tolerant of our limitations and inadequacies and are now demanding to manage institutions and agencies with a view to recouping their loans."

Obasanjo, who served as a democratic President of Nigeria between 1999 and 2007, warned that "Using debt to finance growth and/or development is a double-edged sword that must be wielded with a high degree of discipline, responsibility and foresight.

"A well-calibrated debt for infrastructure and other developmental goals could be very positive. However, we do not need to speculate. We need to examine our historical experience."

He, however, maintained that the Federal Government worsened the matter by seeking to add another $29.6bn loan to "our already overburdened debt portfolio."

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari recently submitted a loan request of $29.6bn to the National Assembly for infrastructural development.

Despite the criticism against the move by economic experts, there are indications that the Senate and the House of Representatives would approve Buhari's loan proposal.

The Senate President, Dr Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, have been accused of overseeing a rubber-stamp legislature for approving Buhari's requests.
