Apple Pay Express Transit now live in London
Apple Pay Express Transit

After a few months of collaboration, the Apple Pay Express Transit feature now works for all Transport for London services, including the Underground, buses and trams – anywhere there is a yellow reader. Basically, if you have an iPhone or an Apple Watch, you can now leave your Oyster card behind.

To start using the Express Transit feature, you just need to pick a preferred card to use for payments. The "express" part of the name means that the usual authentication is skipped to make it faster to use, gsmarena reports.

Interestingly, this feature will continue working for up to five hours after your iPhone's battery dies – however, this only applies to iPhone XS, XR and newer models. Also keep in mind that powering off the phone disables the Transit feature.

Note that authentication is still required for regular Apple Pay transactions. And if you lose your phone or watch, you can disable the Express Transit feature remotely.

Apple Pay Express Transit now works in London

This feature is available for the public transport services in several other regions, including New York (MTA), Portland (TriMet), Japan (Suica cards) as well as Beijing and Shanghai.

Our Party may not participate in future elections- Secondus, PDP Chairman

Our Party may not participate in future elections- Secondus PDP Chairman
Prince Uche Secondus

The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Monday revealed their fears of participating in the upcoming gubernatorial elections slated for Edo and Ondo states in 2020.

Party also re-echoed its disappointment in the conduct of the just concluded Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections by the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

The opposition party, therefore, urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to embark on electoral amendment through the National Assembly to address most of the challenges in conducting elections in the country, Daily Post reports.

Prince Uche Secondus, the National Chairman of the Party, said this while addressing INEC delegation who came to carry out a routine verification exercise at the party's National Headquarters in Abuja.

While addressing some of the operatives of the electoral umpire, Secondus alleged that the INEC integrity was at stake given the trajectory of elections it has conducted so far in the country.

He pointed out that some of the INEC staff have compromised their offices.

The Chairman said, "INEC as presently constituted has integrity questions. Some of the staff have compromised their offices.

"We advise that INEC should go back to the drawing board and consider the past elections it has conducted.

"Even INEC needs a reform. We can't continue this way. Is either we practice the American model or adopt the Egyptian model where soldiers shall be part and parcel of the election process.

Further, the PDP National Chairman affirmed it was time for INEC to submit the necessary amendments to the National Assembly so that an improved legal framework can be put in place for a free and fair election to be achieved.

He, however, added that the conduct of the 2019 general elections set Nigeria backwards.

Some of the bitter lessons, according to Secondus, are: thuggery, killing, militarisation of voting scenes and disruptions of voting process.

Others are the alleged INEC involvement in operating the APC agenda, brigandage, intimidation, coercion and manipulation of results, hijacking of election materials and deployment of military helicopters among others.

It was on this premise that the PDP advocated for the legalization of electronic voting and ban on military participation in elections.

In his reaction, the INEC Deputy Director, Election and Party Monitoring who headed the delegation, Musa Husunu said all the comments, observations and concerns of the PDP would be considered.

Husunu, however, reeled out things the INEC team came to do as a matter of routine verification exercise to include evidence of office headquarters, 5 copies of the party's constitution, list of NEC committee members, physical presence of NEC members, membership registration and books of account.

But the PDP averred that what happened in Osun, Ekiti, Bayelsa and Kogi states were not democratic enough to guarantee future participation in elections by the opposition political parties.

Actress Dayo Amusa laments – ‘I’ve not made money from Nollywood’

Posted: 02 Dec 2019 04:25 AM PST

Actress and filmmaker, Dayo Amusa has lamented over not making any money from Nollywood even after shooting 12 movies and still counting.

Amusa in the interview with The Sun disclosed that she does other things that generate money for her but however expressed hope of making money from Nollywood someday.

"I do a lot of things that generate money for me. I have always done business even before I came into Nollywood and I am still in business. I came into Nollywood as an actress before becoming a movie producer and to date, I have shot 12 movies and still counting. Truth be told, I have not made money from Nollywood yet. After 12 movies I have not made the kind of money that I should make but I know I will make it. You see, there is a difference between making a huge profit and then, just getting your money back on your investment. I haven't broken even" she said.

She also disclosed that her major challenge is that her movies are not yet being shown in cinemas.

"I love doing good movies and putting up good content. I think my major challenge now is that my movies are not showing in all cinemas in the country like I hoped and it saddens me. Their excuse is that my movies are indigenous and the titles are local but I am like 'we get to watch foreign movies indigenous to different parts of the world yet subtitled and these movies are been shown in our cinemas so I ask the question 'why can't we encourage our local content?' I want to believe that even if a movie is 100 per cent indigenous, that does not stop it from showing in cinemas as long as the movie is well subtitled.

"It has greatly affected me as an independent film maker, I do most of my productions from my purse. It is not like I get grants and it really eats moviemakers up when we don't get the opportunity to showcase what we have.

"Even if they feel we are not getting it right, there is a way they can inform us that this is what you need to achieve this and that. But they just label it local content, indigenous this and indigenous that, giving what we do all sorts of names but the fact is, when you preview a job and story wise you have it, picture wise you have it, quality wise and artistic whatever you have it, then why the barrier? Why can't such a movie be seen in all cinemas across Nigeria.

"But they are giving excuses that when cinema going audiences hear the title, they will not like it. Who says so? Yes, a title could have a very positive impact on a production but a title is a title, be it local or English or what have you. An indigenous title cannot stop a good film from flying at the box office," she adds with emphasis.

"I love RMD. He is my role model. When it was much younger, I used to dream about the guy a lot. I was so obsessed with him. Everything I do, I think about him. Every night, I meet him in my dreams. He was my dream man.

I also like Tonto Dikeh and Mercy Johnson. These ladies are the kinds of people I want to work with. But Rita Dominic is the main actress I love and respect. I was told that I look so much like Rita Dominic. Not face, but body structure and the behind," she said.

On her foray into the movie industry and her scary experience while filming in a river, TimmyK said:

"Funke Akindele gave me the opportunity. It was my first movie, a Yoruba movie, Jenifa. After that, i did a couple of others within Nigeria and Ghana before I travelled to the UK, then got married at 19/20.

Then, I almost drowned in Asaba on the set of Crazy Princess. Because it was first time filming in a fast flowing water. It was so sloppy under too and dirty water. The water almost swallowed me. I practically drowned. The guards had to quickly recuse me. I enjoyed my way all through."

Actor Olu Michaels – "I will never get married or have children"

Posted: 02 Dec 2019 01:05 AM PST

Nollywood actor and filmmaker Olu Michaels has finally opened up on why he won't be getting married or having children.

In an interview with TheNation, the 48-year-old star said: "I'm not married, and I don't intend to. Truth be told, I'm scared of marriage and I don't think I will ever get married.

Though, I wanted to have kids when I was younger but not now, it is too late. Why I said it's too late for having children is that I am a workaholic and I don't  like a situation where I would want to sleep and then a baby starts crying. My parents have been begging me to get married but no."

Why asked what he looks for in a woman, he said: "I am a jealous man. For example, if I marry an actress and I see her kissing another actor on set, I will never tolerate such. Also, if I marry a beautiful woman, I might never concentrate on my work because I will be on the look to protect her.

On whether he feels lonely at night, Michaels said: "What I do every time I feel lonely is that I have a car that I bought with all my money. It is a Mercedes-Benz and the interior is wow. I love it. I just drive round town and get home and sleep off."
