Spring 2020 ECON386 Information

Posted: 03 Jan 2020 07:52 AM PST

The Economics Department supports students who desire to broaden their range of educational experience beyond the traditional classroom. To this end, ECON386 allows students to obtain credit for employment or internships related to their studies in economics. Students are responsible for seeking and securing their own internships. While the Economics Department will post internship opportunities forwarded by potential sponsors, the department does not actively match students with internships.

Full information on ECON386, including student and internship eligibility requirements as well as the required application can be found here.

For Spring 2020, the preferred application deadline is Friday, January 24th. The final deadline is Tuesday, February 4th. Please contact Alice Szczepaniak at amszczep@umd.edu if you have any questions.

Please note that accepted students will be expected to attend a brief in-person orientation on Wednesday, February 5th at 6pm. Full details will be sent to students accepted into ECON386.

If approved, students will register for three (3) credits of ECON386. For students on the Bachelor of Arts track, these credits may count towards their Experiential Learning requirement. For students on the Bachelor of Science track, these credits will count as elective credits (towards the minimum number of credits needed for an undergraduate degree). Grades for ECON386 are Satisfactory or Fail (S/F). Per university policy, Satisfactory (S) grades are not included in GPA; however, a Failing (F) grade will be. ECON386 may not be repeated.

Full-time Research Assistant Positions

Posted: 03 Jan 2020 05:45 AM PST

Dear Students,

I am hiring pre-doctoral research assistants to join my research team to work on projects related to health economics and econometrics.  These full-time positions begin in Summer 2020, and I am looking for candidates with the potential to work for two years in Ann Arbor, Michigan.  The research assistants will work closely with me, my co-authors, and other members of my research team.

Research assistants are involved in several stages of the research process, including research design, data analysis, and writing and editing of manuscripts. Besides working directly on research, research assistants also have opportunities to attend weekly seminars in economics and to get regular feedback on their proposed research ideas. Through their experiences on the team, previous members have built strong research skills and have gone on to top PhD programs in economics and related fields.

Further details about my current research, as well as application instructions, are available on my website.  I consider applications on a rolling basis, and now is a good time to apply.

Best regards,
Amanda
