US discloses countries allegedly planning attacks on Americans Posted: 02 Jan 2020 01:15 PM PST
Mark Esper, U.S. Defence Secretary, Thursday said there were indications Iran or the forces it backs may be planning additional attacks."There are some indications out there that they may be planning additional attacks, it`s nothing new, we've seen this for two or three months now."If that happens then we will act and by the way, if we get word of attacks or some type indication, we will take preemptive action as well to protect American forces to protect American lives," Reuters quoted Esper as saying.Washington said the air strikes, which killed 25 people, were in retaliation for missile attacks that killed a U.S. contractor in northern Iraq recently. The protests marked a new turn in the shadow war between Washington and Tehran playing out across the Middle East."The game has changed and we are prepared to do what is necessary to defend our personnel and our interests and our partners in the region," Esper said.During the same news briefing, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley said there had been a sustained campaign by Kataib Hezbollah against U.S. personnel since October and the missile attack in northern Iraq was designed to kill. "Thirty-one rockets aren't designed as a warning shot, that is designed to inflict damage and kill," Milley said.
Turkey Government detains pilots over ex-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn’s escape via Istanbul Posted: 02 Jan 2020 01:05 PM PST
Turkish authorities on Thursday detained seven people – including four pilots – as part of the widening probe into former Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn's wild escape from Japan as he transited through Istanbul en route to Lebanon. The other people held were two airport ground workers and one cargo worker, a police spokeswoman told Reuters, which reported that the accused embezzler had arrived in Beirut on a private jet from Istanbul on Monday.Meanwhile, Japanese prosecutors raided the accused embezzler's Tokyo home after he skipped bail while on house arrest and was smuggled out of the country in a musical instrument case. The Turkish Hurriyet news outlet, citing an interior ministry official, said border police were not notified about Ghosn's arrival — and that neither his entry nor exit were registered, according to Reuters.A plane carrying Ghosn arrived at 5:30 a.m. Monday in Istanbul's Ataturk Airport, Hurriyet reported, adding that prosecutors ordered the arrests after widening their investigation.Flight tracking data indicates that Ghosn used two different planes to fly into Istanbul and then continue to Lebanon.Japanese authorities allowed Ghosn — who holds French, Lebanese and Brazilian citizenship — to carry a spare French passport in a locked case while out on bail, public broadcaster NHK reported Thursday. Ghosn, who was first arrested in Tokyo in November 2018, faces four charges, including hiding income and enriching himself through payments to car dealerships in the Middle East. He has repeatedly denied the charges, saying authorities trumped up the charges to prevent a possible fuller merger between Nissan and alliance partner Renault SA. He is expected to address the media next week. On Tuesday, Ghosn said in a statement that he left for Lebanon because he thought the Japanese judicial system was unjust, and he wanted to avoid "political persecution." Lebanese officials have said that Ghosn entered the country legally, and that there was no reason to take action against him. Selim Jreissati, the Lebanese minister for presidential affairs, told the An-Nahar newspaper that Ghosn entered with a French passport and Lebanese ID. A court in Tokyo had allowed Ghosn to keep a second French passport as he needed one to travel inside Japan, a source told Agence France-Presse on Thursday. "He had to keep this passport" to prove his short-stay status, the source said. "There was permission from the court." The Japanese government is likely to ask Lebanon to extradite Ghosn through diplomatic channels, though Beirut has no extradition accord with Tokyo. The French government on Thursday said it would not extradite Ghosn if he arrived in the country because it does not extradite its nationals. With Post wires Source: nypost.com
US dumbfounded by and mysterious drones flying around, no one has answers Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:44 PM PST
US security authorities are investigating confirmed reports of mysterious drone sightings in Colorado and Nebraska that appeared in the night sky this week.Sheriff's offices in Lincoln, Washington and Sedgwick counties have been getting calls this week about the unknown winged devices after initial reports came out of Phillips and Yuma counties, sheriffs said. The drones reportedly have 6-foot (1.8-metre) wingspans and fly between 7pm and 10pm in grid-like patterns 150 to 200 feet (45m-60m) in the air in groups of six to 10, the Denver Post reported.Yuma County Sheriff Todd Combs said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Wednesday NZ time) that the drones are flying in airspace controlled by the federal government. However, the Federal Aviation Administration, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the US Air Force, and the US Army Forces Command said they don't have any information. The Yuma County Sheriff's Office said it doesn't have jurisdiction over that airspace and that shooting a drone out of the sky could break federal laws, because drones are recognised as aircraft. Combs said on Facebook that local sheriff's offices, police departments and federal government agencies have scheduled a meeting on January 6 to develop a plan to identify who or what is controlling these drones. "There are many theories about what is going on, but at this point, that's all they are," he wrote. "I think we are all feeling a little bit vulnerable due to the intrusion of our privacy that we enjoy in our rural community, but I don't have a solution or know of one right now." Amazon, Paragon Geophysical Services, the US Geological Survey, the Colorado Department of Transportation and UAV Recon have all denied connections to the drones, according to the Denver Post. In a statement to the Denver Post on Monday, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said the agency will be proposing a rule change that would allow law enforcement and federal security agencies to remotely identify drones that fly through their jurisdictions. According to the FAA website, more than 1.5 million drones were registered with the FAA as of December 10. Source: stuff.co.nz
Davido speaks on rumoured flying with Sophia Momodu to Ghana Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:22 PM PST Davido says he only allowed his baby mama, Sophia Momodu to join him in his plane to Ghana for the sake of his daughter, Imade.Davido has come out to clear the air about the rumoured fling with his baby mama, Sophie Momodu. The music star took to his Instagram stories on Thursday, January 2, 2020, where he shared a lengthy post about the reason Sophie Momodu joined him in his private jet during his trip to Ghana."I just want to drop a quick comment on the headlines of the silly blogs I've been seeing circulate about me taking the mother of first child on a trip to Ghana and really wish y'all will quit with it. You ALL know that I just proposed to Chioma recently and it would make no sense whatsoever for me to be doing such. My daughter's mother had her business in Ghana with Afrochella selling Imade's hair products at stalls and I was obviously booked to perform at Afronation."I simply gave her a lift for the sake of Imade who I didn't want to be left in Lagos without her mom. I t was either that or she fly economy. I don't understand why you all would spread such rumours you know would do nothing but hurt my fiance and disrespect her family. 2020 is for positive energy. Get it with it," he wrote.

Saraki's home in Ilorin demolished by Kwara Governor Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:03 PM PST
The political headquarters of the Sarakis in Ilorin, was brought to ruins, for allegedly violating usage laws, according to the Government of Kwara State. The Kwara state government has brought down the political headquarters of the Sarakis in Illorin, the state capital, for "flagrant abuse of the allocation terms."The home is called the 'Ile Arúgbó'.According to a report by TheCable, the home was demolished in the early hours of Thursday, January 2, 2020 after security operatives dispersed protesters, including aged women, from within the complex. The state government had fixed midnight for the demolition exercise to avoid a clash with Saraki's loyalists who had been keeping watch on the complex, the report adds. However, the Kwara Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, had announced last month, his decision to revoke the late Olusola Saraki's property because it was illegally acquired.Razaq said the land was originally designated for the construction of a secretariat and parking lot of the civil service clinic, but that it was unlawfully allocated to a private firm — Asa Investments Limited — without any record of payment to the state government.Bukola Saraki, Nigeria's former senate president who also served as Governor of Kwara from 2003 to 2011, however, said his late father lawfully acquired the parcel of land from the state government. "The property had been rightfully allocated to my late father under the name of one of his companies, Asa Investment Limited, since the 1980s and contrary to the claim of the governor, the land was properly allocated and a Right of Occupancy title issued on it," Saraki said. — TheCable (@thecableng) January 2, 2020 Saraki also said revoking the land is an act of vengeance from the state governor. "It should be noted that the excuse given by Abdulrazaq in his revocation order holds no water since it is clear that this is the height of his vengeance against my father, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki and I. "This action is clearly a manifestation of vengeance … in his narrow-mindedness, he believes his victory at the polls is an empowerment, entitlement and enablement to settle scores, provoke and pursue inter-family rivalry. They expected development and fulfilment of promises." Current Kwara Governor Razaq is a member of the APC, the political party which controls the center in Nigeria. Saraki defected from the APC to the opposition PDP in 2018 and lost his re-election bid to the senate afterwards. He alleged political persecution before his defection to the PDP.
