US vs Iran: Kanu speaks on killing of Iran General, warns Nigeria
Nnamdi Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Saturday reacted to the killing of an Iranian General, Qassem Soleimani by a United States, US, airstrike.

Kanu warned that Nigeria would bear the "brunt" of US strike, Daily Post reports.

The strike had killed Soleimani, who is the Revolutionary Guard General and head of the elite Quds Force, at Baghdad International Airport.

The strike also killed Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, the deputy commander of the Iran-backed militias in Iraq, the Popular Mobilization Forces, which recently stormed the US embassy in Baghdad.

Reacting, Kanu in a tweet wrote: "What they failed to add to their banner is "Death to Biafra" because Judeo-Christians, especially Biafrans in Arewa core north of the British created contraption 'Nigeria' will bear the brunt of this US strike in Iraq as always. Britain must stop shielding terrorists in Nigeria."

Meanwhile, the US President, Donald Trump had given insight into why Soleimani was killed by an airstrike.

Trump had disclosed that Soleimani was plotting to kill lots of American citizens but was caught in the process.

In a series of tweets on his verified Twitter handle, the US President had insisted that the late general was responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans.

President Donald Trump, US President

President Donald Trump, the US President said the action against Iran's top military commander Qassem Soleimani was "to stop a war, not to start one." He said Soleimani's "reign of terror" was "over" following a strike at Iraq's Baghdad airport on Friday.

"What the United States did yesterday should have been done long ago," Trump said, "A lot of lives would have been saved."

Maj. Gen. Qassem Soleimani, leader of the foreign wing of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, was killed in an airstrike by US in Baghdad on Friday morning.

His killing according to the report, has provoked strong reactions from Iranian leaders and military commanders who said it will be followed by a "harsh revenge."

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in a video message also said US action against Soleimani saved lives, as he was plotting attacks that could have killed "hundreds of Americans."

"While the president made it very clear we do not want war, when American lives are at risk, we will act quickly and decisively," he said.

According to AFP, a US official said that 3,000 troops would be sent to the Middle East as a precaution, presumably beyond the 700 U.S. Army paratroopers that arrived in Kuwait on Wednesday.
