The World Health Organisation has declared coronavirus as a pandemic.

The media personality made this know via her Twitter page on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

Toke Makinwa's tweet is coming barely 24 hours after the third confirmed case of coronavirus was recorded in the country.

Emeka Rollas defends Elisha Abbo's actor's guild patronship, says the senator was not convicted of any crime

Posted: 20 Mar 2020 12:30 AM PDT

Emeka Rollas accuses Nollywood actresses Hilda Dokubo and Kate Henshaw of unnecessary sensationalism in new interview.

The President of the Actor's Guild of Nigeria Emeka Rollas has reacted to the Hilda Dokubo and Kate Henshaw led online protests against the appointment of Senator Elisha Abbo as a patron of the guild.
In an exclusive interview granted to Plus TV, Emeka Rollas defended the guild's decision while loosely accusing the actresses of sensationalism and attempting to taint the image of the guild.

Rather than take the issues up on social media, the guild's president insisted that the aggrieved ladies should have written to the guild expressing their grievances. He added that while social media was no medium of governance for the guild, Dokubo and Henshaw have been of no impact to the guild despite being Nollywood actors for over 20 years.

Rollas also questioned their membership status, stating that he presided over a guild of 2 million members and could not verify if they have been participating members in the last two years.

Speaking on the process of appointing patrons, Rollas revealed that the candidates were usually decided upon by a panel and Abbo was nominated by the members in the North-East for his contribution to their development.

Whilst still defending the guild's decision, Rollas insisted that although he was aware of the video of Elisha Abbo physically assaulting a young woman, the senator remains innocent until proven guilty by a court. He added that the AGN did not appoint him patron as a measure to celebrate him for haven beaten a woman but for his support of the guild members in the North East chapter.

Watch Interview:

Rollas' interview follows Hilda Dokubo's recent video calling out the guild's decision to appoint alleged woman beater senator, Elisha Abbo as a patron.

Man arrested for reportedly digging Kobe Bryant's grave

Posted: 20 Mar 2020 12:00 AM PDT

According to reports, the unidentified man was arrested by the police in the process.

There are reports that a yet to be identified young man has been arrested for allegedly digging up the grave of Kobe Bryant and his late daughter, Gigi.

Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gigi died in a helicopter crash back in January 2020.

According to MTO News, the man snuck onto the private gravesite with tools and began digging.

Police say that the man peeled back the grass and began digging - and he dug fairly deep into the ground.

However, another news source, USA Today, disputes that this is Kobe's gravesite.

MTO obtained exclusive images showing police putting the man in handcuffs and taking photos of the crime scene.

The unidentified male had been seen wearing knee pads, and carrying equipment that he used to dig through the area where he believed Kobe and Gianna had been laid to rest.

The 41-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers basketball star died alongside his daughter and six other persons on Jan 26, 2020.

TMZ was the first to report his death. In their report, they revealed that Bryant and his daughter with traveling with four other people in his private helicopter when it crashed, killing everyone on board.

Officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of the crash near Las Virgenes Rd and Willow Glen St in Calabasas at around 10 am after a fire broke out.

Kobe was survived by a wife, Vanessa Laine Bryant, three daughters, and aged parents.

Kate Henshaw reacts to Emeka Rollas interview, says he lacks self respect

Posted: 19 Mar 2020 11:30 PM PDT

Kate Henshaw has a response for AGN president, Emeka Rollas and it's packed with receipts!

In the wake of Rollas' Plus TV interview where he accused actresses Kate Henshaw and Hilda Dokubo of unnecessary sensationalism, Henshaw has taken to social media to respond strongly to the AGN president while insisting that Elisha Abbo remains unfit to represent any chapter of the body.

In a series of Tweets, the veteran actress responded to Rollas' accusation including his questioning of her membership. Henshaw shared letters sent to her via the President's secretary offering her the conferment of veteran actor of the guild.

She shared, "I told you I could not make it to the award even though you offered to fly me into Abuja. You then suggested sending a manager to pick up on my behalf.. Emeka Rollas, you are President of yourself and those whom you feed your crumbs. Not I. Again I ask who are you writing to??"

Henshaw also released a 3-minute video on IGTV backing up her Twitter led protests where she pointed out that social media has been the medium of getting help for members of the guild who have needed urgent healthcare in recent times.

"This is the same social media where we come with bowls to beg for alms from the public because our members cannot be looked after because there is no healthcare".

Henshaw also accused the guild's leadership of running to popular faces in times of trouble to help confer legitimacy to their courses but turn to outsiders especially ones without respect for human rights for questionable motives.

Why the AMVCA might need to revisit its vision statement ASAP

Posted: 19 Mar 2020 11:00 PM PDT

Multichoice' Africa Magic Viewers'Choice Awards might have ended on Saturday, March 14, 2020 but not talks of its major snubs and surprising wins.

The just-concluded 7th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards was not without its fair share of controversy as it was and is still being expectedly trailed by online reactions of satisfied winners, disgruntled losers and their supporters.

In spite of the cacophony of opinions that have littered media space, the caw of rational arguments has managed to stand out.

At the very apex is, of course, the unwavering view that either the AMVCA is in dire need of a Razzies award variant or an immediate restructuring of its vision statement.

Every year, except its silent 2019, the award ceremony has exalted the red carpet over its plaque. The recent inclusion of the Best Dressed category ultimately bridged the gap. As things stand, we might as well refer to the award as the Africa Magic Fashion Choice Awards.

While the AMVCA might be on the list of impactful film awards in Africa in terms of it being the most televised, understanding what should be celebrated is conspicuously absent from its modus operandi. I mean, how else do you explain turning crucial categories to popularity contests?

AMVCA's process of awarding Best Actor/Actress is laughable at best. For the AMVCA, these coveted categories are insignificant and as such, require the expertise of a bunch of star struck fans. Let that sink in. The fate of African film industries' best actor and actress in the hands of people (commissioned or otherwise) without an understanding of the craft.

Then there's the question of transparency. Even the most transparent awards have at some point been accused of nepotism. You will imagine that with the AMVCA's 7 years of existence, that it would have made an intentional effort to guarantee that valuable information regarding its award nomination and winning criteria are more than mere words passed on from one generation to the next.

Apparently, our knack for celebrating all things mediocre as long as it fits personal agendas has permeated the industry's reception of the AMVCA. The people who ought to be screaming at the top of their lungs have become observers and the oftentimes undeserving winners? Silent of course!

Further down the line of unfortunateness, is the fact that the award organizers might not even be ready to ascertain what it wants to stand for. After all, celebrities are sated and sponsors more than willing to invest more cash.

Perhaps, we might need some international interference. One or more to knock us out of our reverie. Until then, we have no choice but to settle for the fashion show excuse of a film award.

Harrysong tells Pulse about Davido, losing N180 million, why he stopped chasing hit songs, depression and new EP

Harrysong talks about Davido, losing N180 million, why he stopped chasing hit songs, depression and new EP [Interview]

Since the turn of 2020, Harrysong has taken his Harrysong World Tour to places like London, Paris, Malta and so forth.

Earlier in the month, Nigerian singer and hitmaker, Harrysong visited Pulse Nigeria for a chat. During the interview, he discussed a few topics that mattered to him. Dressed in a pink hoodie and black sweatpants, he was approachable and really calm.
For someone whom the world only hears of when he deems it fit, he looked fly and fresh. For people who were meeting for a first time, there was warmth and calmness between this writer and the singer. Despite having another interview slated for 30 minutes before this chat started, Harrysong was calm.

"We go run am," he says. This was after I asked, "So, how make we do am, baba?" After being back in Nigerian to promote his new singles, 'Bum Bum' and 'Isioma,' he discussed these topics.

Harrysong World Tour

Since the turn of 2020, Harrysong has taken his Harrysong World Tour to places like London, Paris, Malta and so forth. The tour is currently on a break due to Harrysong's birthday and more importantly, his media rounds. The tour will then resume in April 2020 when Ghana, Ethiopia and other African countries will also enjoy it.

Organizing a tour has been made easier these days. Figuring out your tour dates just involves checking the back end of various streaming services to see places where your music is being consumed. That's what Harrysong did.

Harrysong on the importance of media
These days, the internet has taken over a lot of things. One of them is PR - as addressed by this writer in a previous article, Nigerian artists now rely on their star power and internet fame to promote their music. Well, not for Harrysong.

He says, "Media is still as important as it could ever be - it's even more important. When we started, media and press people helped us with profiling and interviews. They also helped us build a brand and sell that brand. Now, the media is even more streety-savvy than we are. It's like a pregnant woman.

"Before you have the baby, you claim you have a lot of work and even shout so you'd sometimes get attention. But when you've given birth, that's when the work starts. You now have to nurture, train and be patient with the child. That's how it is as an artist; when you've 'blown,' that's when the work starts. You need the media to put you out well sou you'd have returns."

Harrysongz and 'The hits' 1

Over the past few years, Harrysong's hits have sort of slowed down. When quizzed about it, he says, "We've grown. It's not that our music doesn't sell anymore. It's just that it doesn't sell as it used to sell. Now that everything has gone digital, there is more money - we still make money. You will only see this if you can 'see through.'

Harrysong opines that music-making is now more about strategy afforded by the accuracy of streaming. He opines that you can always look at your faults, pluses and track your sales. To him, this helps him become a better artist who can make money.

Harrysong and 'The hits' 2

While Harrysong gave an articulate response on the last heading it points to some peoples' fear for Nigerian music.

Nigerian artists now seem to be concerned with successful songs than hit songs. While that is not necessarily a bad thing, it could reduce quality of music. Strategy should never kill the art. Nonetheless, if you are Harrysong, the thoughts of those people don't matter. As much as you need hits, the lust after hits can also kill careers.

During the conversation, this writer then asks Harrysong whether he means that he doesn't need hits anymore, he says, "Don't just chase hits, you need to start thinking strategically. It's literally called the music business. So, you approach it strategically - money has to go in, it has to be structured and money has to come back.

"Creating is different from promotion and monetization. Promotion alone is a lot. If you do a budget of N100 million, to create that content could cost you like $10 million. Now to push can cost you the entire N90 million because you want to push across borders. People who complain that they're not making money are only there because the current reality has left them behind."

"There is more money in this industry that you might not even need shows. The journey starts when you have hits songs and it will get to a point when it won't about hit songs anymore. It's about consistency and that consistency will tell how you an artist is and how ready he is. It's about the strategy and how the music can bring money back."

Harrysong says he came to the realization that hits might not matter as much anymore after he released, 'Samankwe' featuring Timaya. When asked about whether this realization came due to competition and the success of his peers, he says no.

Harrysong says, "There are some people in this industry who are everywhere, but they are broke. Some, you don't hear of everything but they're comfortably rich."

Music promotion in current Nigerian music
On this issue, Harrysong says, "You must have a strategy. First, you must think about the brand of that artist and what the music he's trying to push represents. The perception must be right and the music must be placed in the right hands - hands that will push it right. Then, it must all be paid for because you understand that 'even in friendship, business go well (laughs).'

"My boss used to tell me that, 'Where there is money, there will be no fight. If there is fight, there will be no break-up." It's also important that everyone with an interest in that music should be vested."

Harrysong loses N180 million

On September 6, 2018, Pulse Nigeria reported that, "Harrysong has left a troubling message on his Instagram page, saying his fans should not cry for him, but instead celebrate him when he is gone.

"Singer, Harrysong has shared a post on his social media page, that in this period where depression and suicide is on the front burner of social media discussion, has left many concerned about his state of mind.

"In a message posted on Wednesday, September 5, the 'Arabanko' singer posted his picture alongside the caption;

'"'Dont cry wen i die, celebrate, put up a kingmaker concert, empower more youths,..i have Lived..i have Done my bit, carry on in grace... TEKERO❤ I LOVE YOU ALL.''

"This brief message as it is has left a number of people expressing concerns for his well being."

In one of the few interviews he's given since, Harrysong says, "I know it was everywhere about how down I was. I already had plans for 2020 - I was saving for a business. I'm from Delta State and we have oil. I was saving to get into a major business in oil and gas and I was duped. When I got the news that I had been duped of N180 million, it was almost everything to me at the time.

"When I said I was down, I was really down. But thank God for grace that we're back stronger. Now, there's life and talent - we are ready for the next phase."

Harrysong says that even though he had money at the time, that N180 million was just a lot. He also says that he spoke out because he wanted to free his mind. "People thought I was going to die, but I wasn't (laughs). It's only been a year and some months since then and I have more. While there's life there's hope," he says.

On who checked in on him, Harrysong says, "Almost everybody; those who loved me, those who hated me, the ones that wanted to stand by me, some called to check if I had really died (laughs), but almost everybody reached out."

Harrysongz, 2020 and streaming

In 2020, Harrysong says that we should expect videos for 'Bum Bum' and 'Isioma.' Somehow, we came back to the music business. Harrysong revealed that he actually sees money from his streams. Despite the difference between YouTube payments with Nigerian artists and other artists, Harrysong says, "We will get there, we are not there (where we'd be on the same level) yet."

Nonetheless, Harrysong claims that he does not look out for international collaborations. He says that an artist should keep working till the attention gets to you. He says, "It used to be a dream for me, but now they are looking at us. There's also money in our industry, so it's not a do or die..."

Harrysong on songwriting, new EP and Kingmaker Concert

In 2020, Harrysong will release an EP titled, Right About Now. For it, he's already started recording and writing. Nonetheless, the singer is also still invested in his first love, songwriting. On that, he schools Nigerian acts who feel low about admitting the use of songwriting.

"They need to upgrade their senses and realize that many were called, but few were chosen - you can't have all. I can sing, write, play instrument and perform, but it's a privilege that doesn't mean I'm way higher than the next person.

"When I started in church, I had music directors who could only write music, but can't perform it - yet, they were excellent at that writing. It doesn't mean they are incompetent or incomplete. He nor mean say dem be February.

"If someone writes a song for you, it means singing is your office and songwriting is that other person's office. That is why publishing deals are broken down - division of labour is necessary. If it's about ability, I should be Michael Jackson and R.Kelly should be bigger than Michael Jackson. It's by grace," Harrysong says.

He continues that, "It's not really holding Nigerian music back, it's just holding us back as a force to push together. I know a lot of young amazing writers who only need a platform. Sometimes, when they get a platform to write for others, they are sworn to secrecy. Sometimes, when we sign artists, we need to get them writers."

The singer says he tells his artists these things. Finally, Harrysong also confirms that his Harrysong World Tour will end with a Kingmaker Concert in Lagos. He says, "There is fire in my system for that." Harrysong says he wants Lagos to experience what Zion is with that Kingmaker Concert.

5 Nigerian celebrities you didn't know are biracial

Posted: 19 Mar 2020 10:00 PM PDT

Today on Pulse list, we will be sharing with you guys, five biracial celebrities.

First and foremost, a biracial person is someone who has parents of two different races.

Having said that, it is common to find people a lot of biracial people around which has kind of made it very easy to identify them, especially when one race is from the western world.

One thing that is very similar to biracial people is the fact that they take the front seats when it comes to stunning looks.

Over here in Nigeria, some of your favourite celebrities belong to this category. Stardom for these guys didn't come because of their skin colour rather it was as a result of their hard work.

Today on Pulse list, we will be sharing with you guys, five biracial celebrities.

Ramsey Nouah

Ramsey Nouah needs no introduction as he is the golden 'baby boy' of Nollywood. From the moment the actor made his debut in the 1990s popular TV series 'Fortunes' it was obvious a movie star was born. Since then there has been no stopping or holding back for Nouah.

Nouah was born to an Israeli dad and a Nigerian mum in Nigeria. During an interview a few years ago, Ramsey Nouah said his father had roots from three different countries.

If Adunni Ade is called one of the prettiest women in Nigeria, we don't think anyone would argue about it. The gorgeous and talented actress was born in Queens, New York, United States to a German American mother and a Yoruba Nigerian father.

She, however, grew up in Nigeria and the United States of America respectively. After a stint in the corporate world in the United States, Ade moved back to Nigeria where she joined the bubbling Nollywood industry.

One amazing thing about Ade is her ability to interpret different roles in movies flawlessly. One moment she is the prime and proper princess and the next minute she is the lout and lousy lady trying to harm an intruder.

Adunni Ade is a single mother to two cute sons.

Ibinabo Fiberesima

Ibinabo Fiberesima is unarguably one of the most popular beauty queens to have emerged from Nigeria. The light-skinned, tall and beautiful lady was the toast of all the major beauty pageantries in the 1990s.

She won some, came second in others but one thing that she took away from all of these was a brand and name that would last her for a lifetime.

Born to a Nigerian Dad and Irish mom, Fiberesima was one of the biggest names in Nollywood in the 1990s and early 2000s. She has starred in several movies. She is also a former President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.

Eku Edewor

Being a media personality requires not just the eloquence but the boldness and finesse to stand anywhere and do the job. One person who has met all these requirements is Eku Edewor. The media personality has never failed to show why she gets all the major gigs with her flawless presenting skills.

A twin, Edewor was born to British dad, Hugh Thorley, and a Nigerian mum, Juliana Edewor. She had her education in Nigeria and the United Kingdom. It would surprise many that Edewor didn't actually start her career as a presenter but as a model.

She has a degree in English Literature and Theatre Studies from Warwick University in Coventry, England.

Daddy Freeze

Daddy Freeze can be described as the epitome of what an On-Air personality should be. Students and OAPs wannabes should take a crash course on how Freeze was able to maintain dominance in the airwaves for over two decades and still counting.

Ifedayo Olarinde also known as Daddy Freeze was born to a Yoruba Nigerian dad and a Romanian mother in Cluj-Napoca, Romania. He, however, grew up in Nigeria where he studied at the University of Ibadan.

He is one of the biggest names on the radio. Recently he announced that he was leaving Cool FM where he had worked for twenty years. Daddy Freeze is married with kids.

A Church in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, had sprayed salt water into the mouths of its members with the belief it would kill the coronavirus.

The Church; River of Grace Community Church, following this act infected 46 followers with the deadly virus, scmp.com reports.

The Government has closed down the church and all its believers who attended the prayer service are being tested accordingly.

According to the report, these new cases have frustrated the South Korean government's efforts to clamp down on possible clusters, as cases rise to 8,236

The Prime Minister Chung Sye Kyun, of the country said:

"It's been confirmed that they put the nozzle of the spray bottle inside the mouth of a follower who was later confirmed as a patient, before they did likewise for other followers as well, without disinfecting the sprayer," said Lee Hee-young, head of Gyeonggi Province's coronavirus task force.

"This made it inevitable for the virus to spread," he said. "They did so out of the false belief that salt water kills the virus."

"It is still too early to relax," "The government will concentrate its efforts on preventing cluster infections."

"We again call for proactive participation by churches in preventing further spread of the virus, including changes to their ways of worshiping," Lee said.

Ramsey Nouah blows hot after TV he purchased for about N500k got damaged in less than a month

Posted: 19 Mar 2020 07:30 AM PDT

Ramsey Nouah took to Instagram to slam a store after he took his faulty TV back, less than a month after it was bought, and was informed that it's not covered by warranty.

The actor revealed that his kids "slightly cracked" the screen while playing squash ball. The cracked screen caused the TV to pack up.

Since the TV, which he bought for 499,000 Naira, wouldn't come on again, he took it back to the store since it's covered by warranty. However, on getting there, he was told that the TV screen is not covered by warranty.

In a video shared by the actor on Instagram, the TV is seen on the floor in front of the store, with the carton beside it. The TV and its packaging scattered in front of the store appeared to create a scene.

Sharing the video, Ramsey Nouah wrote:

Okay I'm so livid right now and quite appalled to say the least. Why is it that almost nothing guarantees you value in this country? Dear @lgafrica1 I bought a TV from one of your outlets less than a month ago for 499,000k so basically 500k and the screen got slightly cracked with a squash ball while my kids were playing around.

Not only did my entire TV pack up and refused to come on which puts the quality of the product to serious questions because how do I pay so much for something only for it to shut down completely at the slightest push? I was told on bringing it in to your store that the screen is not under warranty and it costs over 80% of the total amount to replace the screen. I honestly feel like this is a rip off because what then does my warranty cover? The plug maybe?

How is this supposed to be sustainable to average people who probably saved their hard earned income to purchase your product? What are we supposed to do with no warranty on what happens to be the most expensive component of the product?
No! This makes absolutely no sense to me.

Anybody out there has had any unpleasant experience like mine with these companies and would like to talk about it? This is truly unacceptable and I believe needs to be spoken about.

Yvonne Nelson says she's not perfect as she shows off blemished skin

Posted: 19 Mar 2020 06:00 AM PDT

People are quick to say that nobody is perfect, yet, they expect perfection from others especially those in the limelight like celebrities.

Many celebrities have been pushed to living fake lives just to live up to the standard fans have set for them. It all starts with innocently removing their blemishes in photos through the use of filters then it gradually advances to something else.

Well, pretty Ghanaian actress, Yvonne Nelson, has taken to social media via her Instagram page to address this. According to the mother of one, she is not perfect.

Nelson revealed this after sharing different photos of herself, some showing her clear skin and one showing her blemishes.

Chimamanda Adichie wins in court after accusation of plagiarism against her

Posted: 19 Mar 2020 03:30 AM PDT

Renowned novelist, Chimamanda Adichie has revealed that the claim of plagiarism against her in 2016 has been declared as false by a court of law.

Giwa-Amu had accused Chimamanda Adichie of plagiarizing her novel to form her own work "Half of a yellow sun".

The case which was taken to court was thrown out on grounds that it was "an abuse of the court's process".

Chimamanda has now issued a statement in regards to the case:

"STATEMENT REGARDING FALSE CLAIMS FROM ANNE GIWA-AMU

"We, the Wylie Agency, are Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's literary agents.

"In 2016, Anne Giwa-Amu brought a legal claim against Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her publishers. Giwa-Amu alleged that Adichie's novel HALF OF A YELLOW SUN had plagiarized her own novel. A professional independent reader was appointed to read both novels. The reader concluded that there was absolutely no basis for Giwa-Amu's claim and advised that the claim should not be pursued. Giwa-Amu nevertheless continued with the claim.

"On 15 February 2019, Anne Giwa-Amu's claim brought against Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her publishers was struck out by the court. The court determined that her claim was 'an abuse of the court's process.' The court ordered Giwa-Amu to pay Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her publishers the sum of £14,250, which Giwa-Amu failed to pay. The court also ordered Giwa-Amu to pay the legal costs Adichie incurred in defending her baseless claim. Till date, Giwa-Amu has not paid the money.

"Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and her publishers had never heard of Giwa-Amu's novel until she brought her delusional claim. Her present allegations are false, libellous and constitute a harassment to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Further legal actions are being taken.
