Posted: 06 Mar 2020 01:00 AM PST

Nigerian author and social media commentator, Reno Omokri has taken to social media to dish out a piece of advice for all his followers.

According to Reno, people should stop looking for rich friends but instead look for friendships that will enrich them.

In his words;

"Don't look for beautiful and rich friends. You are getting it backwards. Instead, look for friends who can give you a beautiful and rich friendship and to whom you can return the favour. Good friends are the true beauty and richness of life. In fact, if you dont want a broken heart, practice this rule: Love unconditionally, with no expectations from the one you love. It makes your love so irresistible that it will be impossible to abandon it. Purity of love is the sweetest thing known to man"

Tyson Fury confirms he’s retiring from boxing

Posted: 05 Mar 2020 10:30 PM PST

The British boxer and WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury has confirmed that he will be hanging fighting gloves after two major fights.

31-year-old Tyson, made this known days after he knocked down Deontay Wilder, his American opponent twice before his team threw in the towel in the seventh round to end the bout.

However, there will be a summer trilogy fight between the pair after Bronze Bomber called for a rematch after the shocking defeat.

Tyson Fury who appeared on 'This Morning' with his wife Paris Fury, opened up on his future plans to take on Anthony Joshua after his rematch with Deontay Wilder, and then retire from boxing.

"I've got two more fights left, then we're going to really think about what we do from there," he said.

"How long does a piece of string go on? I'm undefeated in 31 professional fights and this is my 12th year as a professional.

"I've already been the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. When I beat Klitschko I had all the belts, so as far as I'm concerned Anthony Joshua just has my leftovers.

"I never lost those belts, I had to take time out to deal with mental health issues, so they're my belts. Until a man is defeated in a boxing ring, how can you pretend to be the champion?"

He also revealed that this time, he is better equipped to deal with the fame and pressure that comes with being a world champion.

He said: "It's almost an anti-climax. You elevate yourself in mind and body to go and box at his level and nothing means anything apart from the fight. Then you win and it's like,

'Oh well, I've done that' and I slide down the other side. But I feel fine, I've learned over the years to maintain the mental health problems and to train on a daily basis and keep a routine.

"It takes me about two weeks to get back to normal after a massive fight.

"It is a rollercoaster of emotions, to be away from the kids and the school run and the screaming and shouting, it takes a lot to come back to that and get re-adjusted to that after three months away.

The Nollywood actress made this known via her Instagram page on Thursday, March 5, 2020. According to her, it has become a norm for certain women to go around breaking homes and not feeling any guilt.

"Breaking into a home with the punpun is now a trend...Even the so-called very beautiful babe is a thief," she wrote.

As if that was not enough, Inyama went on to express her shock and how heartless these women have become.

"How we have turned into a heartless generation 😔 , Women...How do U enjoy sex with him then tell your children 'God bless U?? How? How much are you worth? When another woman is in tears? A woman is d birther of life .....and death too...Everything we do has consequences...Everything...Always remember that... Ķá Çhìńèķè méżìè óķwù. Good morning 😔😔😔," she wrote.

Charles Okafor plays Donatus in the heist film starring Pete Edochie and Enebeli Elebuwa

Posted: 05 Mar 2020 09:30 PM PST

Movies from the 90s might be ridden with huge technical flaws but those days are invaluable to the industry for a good number of reasons.

It was an era that saw the birth of stories with depth made by filmmakers with grit. Filmmakers of the 90s explored angles filmmakers are now too scared to try. One of such angles is the making of heist films.

There are a couple of heist films made in the 90s but one of the first and best is 'Oracle' directed by Andy Amenechi and produced by Ojiofor Ezeanyaeche.

Imagine all the things that could go wrong from robbing a deity of its symbolic mask and you'll have the gory repercussions portrayed in'Oracle'.

The heist themed thriller opens to a highway robbery that ends in a crossfire between the robbers and the police. The introductory scene flops inclusive, set the mood for the coming scenes.

Uche (Ejike Asiegbu), Obinna (Saint Obi) try to convince Donatus (Charles Okafor) that stealing the mask of the revered deity Ogbakiri could have no fatal consequences. The trio then elicits the help of Uncle Ifedi ( Enebeli Elebuwa) and Chief Odimkpa ( Pete Edochie). Stealing the mask erupts a trail of disturbing deaths starting with Asiegbu's character.

22 years after the film's release, Dagogo Diminas's gold-painted, blonde-haired Punisher who metes out justice on the mask thieves does everything but induce fear. But, it's impressive how our veteran filmmakers created entertaining pictures from meagre budgets.

Nollywood actor, Odunlade Adekola tipped to become King in Ekiti

Posted: 05 Mar 2020 04:00 AM PST

Popular Yoruba actor, Odunlade Adekola is been tipped to become a king of his town.

A lot of people would tell you that the versatile Yoruba actor is Abeokuta based, but only a few would tell you where he actually comes from. Although, he was born and bred in Abeokuta but he is from Otun Ekiti, Ekiti State. He's from a prominent royal family (Iletun). And his name would tell you more about family lineage.

The talented actor was born on 31 December 1978 in Abeokuta, Ogun State. He attended St John's Primary School and St. Peter's College in Abeokuta, obtaining the West African School Certificate Examination before he proceeded to Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, where he received a diploma certificate.

He proceeded to further his education and in May 2018 he received a degree in Bachelors of Business Administration at the University of Lagos.

In 2019, the late Oba Adedapo Popoola, who was the king of Otun Ekiti, joined his ancestor and since then the throne has been vacant.

Few days ago, there were rumours that Some ruling houses had raised the alarm that the kingmakers allegedly assembled themselves in a secret location to select one of the contestants for the stool without carrying the government along. This development created unnecessary tension in the community not until the government representatives led by the Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi intervened.

The five ruling houses in Otun Ekiti are: Iyaba, Iletun, Imuya, Obajewu and Odo Imo. The Omuya royal family produced the late Oba Popoola. The monarch, who was a former chairman of the state's council of Obas between 2006 and 2008 died at the age of 62.

The kingmakers have also been warned against violating the State Chieftaincy Law and due process in the selection of the next monarch for the town. And every step taken would get the approval of the state governor, Dr Fayemi.

The big news now is that popular Yoruba actor, Odunlade Adekola, who is from Iletun royal family in Otun Ekiti has been tipped as the new Oba of the town. He has been chosen by his royal family to represent them, City People reports.

According to their source, it's the turn of Odunlade family to produce the next Oba of the town because it's rotational. The Imuya royal family has served their term as they produced the late Oba and it's now Odunlade family.

And one of the advantages Odunlade have over others candidate is his closeness to the governor of the state. He is also a big star and that will surely make him the candidate to beat.

Barry Jhay’s debut EP, ‘Barry Back’ is better than people realize

Posted: 05 Mar 2020 03:00 AM PST

On Friday, February 28, 2020, Headies-winning Nigerian singer, Barry Jhay released his debut EP, the 9-track 'Barry Back.' On the day that he announced the EP, he dedicated it to his late dad, the fuji legend, Sikiru Ololade Ayinde Barrister.

In a lot of ways, this project is at least one year late. However, we will accept it - what choice do we have. On listening to the project, I just want to say it is better than anyone said it is - it's a good listen. Barry Jhay finds a unique, sustained use of his folk vocals range that is sharpened for contemporary pop. Two days after the project dropped, it was the fifth most-streamed new album on Audiomack.

The opening track is befitting of this EP as it showcased Barry Jhay's best trait, his beautiful voice and its ability to cut through socio-political chatter like hot knife through butter. With its beautiful melody, Barry Jhay uses the beat to wish great things upon himself. 'Ashe She' is Yoruba for, 'it will be possible.'

So far, this album feels like listening to a musical prayer session by Kwam 1 with the vocal of an offspring of Klever Jay and 9ice. On a pon pon beat with strings suited to gospel music, Barry Jhay pauses to find positive defiance amidst the struggle. He then reassures himself that it will be possible.

'Daddy' is built on a 'vibe' suited for Wizkid or Runtown. On it, Barry Jhay built a love song on which he reads out his benevolent and amorous intentions to a faceless woman. 'Only You' is another love song. Produced by Fresh VDM, it feels cut from the DMW sound.

With an interpolation of Michael Jackson's 'Don't Stop Till You Get It On, ' for a bridge, Davido and Barry Jhay who have a friendship outside music vibe and deliver. On a dance-pop tune with an afrobeats essence, 'Pa Mi' is a dedication to Jhay's love for weed. 'Under The Duvet' could have done with a Joeboy or Fireboy feature.

It's an amazing R&B song built on folk percussion. 'Ma So Pe' brings us back into the conversations of goodwill and connection to a higher being. That was again the theme on 'Money' and 'Superstar.'

Final thoughts
As a whole, this EP is better than people say it is. The only problem is just that Barry Jhay couldn't find a groundbreaking song amidst the good songs. That said, it's obvious what Barry Jhay was trying to do - be different to the other pop stars by having substance and content in his music.

He achieved that excellently and not once did he drop the ball even once. This made him seem like a Yoruba folk singer doing pop and it resonates really well. He has substance to his lyrics - he's also a good songwriter. However, he needs to expand his topical conversations beyond wishes, words of affirmation and songs about the supreme being. He could do a lot more with this talent.

If he's not careful, even though he might never drop a bad song, he could be judged harshly as a guy who repeats the same patterns. Ergo, his topics must be expansive. Equally, Barry Jhay needs to stop intentionally keeping himself in his father's shadow - it will be counter-productive to his brand long-term.
