| Yemi Alade wants Federal & Lagos State Government to explain how coronavirus relief funds are spent Posted: 20 Apr 2020 12:23 PM PDT  The singer is asking the various government bodies in charge of the disbursement of the relief funds, to explain how they have been impacting the general public.Yemi Alade wants the Lagos state government and that at the federal level to explain how they have been spending the relief funds donated by organisations and well meaning Nigerians to manage coronavirus in the country.The music star in a series of tweets posted on her Twitter page on Monday, April 20, 2020, asked the government to explain how they have been utilising the funds they have received from well-meaning Nigerians and organisations."His Excellency @MBuhari, there are questions surrounding the allocation of the over 25billion naira COVID 19 relief funds that has been generated so far. Transparency was promised and the 7days of grace has been exceeded. Are the NGOs in charge "government-owned" or private?" she tweeted.  "His Excellency @MBuhari @NGRPresident thank you for service at this time. With the 50million Euros donated by EU(21 billionNaira), Cash transfers to mitigate impact of social distancing measures was stated as PRIORITY. What agencies/NGO s are in charge of the weekly distribution? She went on to question the governor of Lagos state about the manner and approach his government has been able to help its citizens cushion the effects of the lockdown order. | Actor, Akah Nnani blames Chinese doctors for increase in COVID-19 in Nigeria, Banky W reacts Posted: 21 Apr 2020 12:00 AM PDT  Banky W has reacted after actor Akah Nnani stated that the confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria has been increasing since the arrival of Chinese doctors.Akah Nnani made the statement in reaction to an announcement made by the Nigerian Center for Disease Control, NCDC, which stated that the number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Nigeria has reached 627.He tweeted: "Since the Chinese doctors came, the numbers started soaring!!! NCDC!!! Wake uuuppp!!!! Gademit!".Responding to the tweet from the actor, Banky W pointed out that the Chinese doctors who arrived in Nigeria to help fight against the virus aren't to blame for the sudden increase in cases of the virus.According to him, Nigeria was getting fewer cases because enough test wasn't getting carried out. He tweeted:  "The numbers started soaring because we have drastically ramped up the number of tests we are doing every day, bro. The true numbers were always MUCH worse than what we knew. We were just under-testing and under-reporting because of a lack of testing capacity." Akah Nnani responded: "Look, my tweet isn't literal. The doctors aren't the reason why the numbers are up. True. But the tweet above is just an expression of the distrust I have of the Chinese govt. In my mind, They are at fault for everything".  |

| Lagos govt discloses fresh details on Abba Kyari’s death Posted: 20 Apr 2020 06:30 AM PDT Hours after former Chief of Staff to the President, late Abba Kyari was buried in Abuja on Saturday, April 18, 2020, the Lagos State Government disclosed the hospital where he died. Kyari who died in Lagos on Friday, April 17, was flown to Abuja in the early hours of Saturday.The former Chief of Staff died 24 days after he tested positive for coronavirus.Following inquiries about the passing of the former Chief of Staff, Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi in a statement said Kyari died at First Cardiology Consultants, a private hospital in Ikoyi area of the state. According to Prof Abayomi, the hospital is a Lagos State designated high care, biosecurity-compliant facility accredited by the Health Facility Management and Accreditation Agency.  The statement reads, "Following enquiries on the passing away of the Chief of Staff to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mallam Abba Kyari on Friday 17th April 2020, the Lagos State Government states that: Mallam Abba Kyari died from Complications of #COVID19 infection at First Cardiology Consultants in Lagos. This hospital is a Lagos State designated high care, biosecurity-compliant, #COVID19 facility, accredited by the Health Facility Management and Accreditation Agency @HEFAMAA_LASG of the @LSMOH. "As a basis for accreditation, First Cardiology Consultants established a separate specialist wing with staff dedicated to the treatment of complicated cases of #COVID19, under the supervision of the Lagos State #COVID19 emergency response team".  |
| Zebra gives birth to "Zonkey" after mating with a donkey Posted: 20 Apr 2020 06:00 AM PDT  A zebra has given birth to a combination of itself and a donkey after it mated with a male donkey.Photos of the interesting development were shared online by a wildlife organization in Kenya.According to the stray Zebra began an amorous affair with the donkey after it ventured out of the Tsavo East National Park, into a community bordering the park.The organisation said the zebra became an honorary member of a local woman's cattle herd before Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (an organisation that works to rescue and rehabilitate animals in Kenya), were called in to relocate the wildlife into a protected area.The Zebra was transferred to Chyulu National Park, but her foal was only noticed a few weeks ago as it has a gestation period of 12 months. Sharing photos of what has been referred to as a "zonkey", the group wrote: "It's a Zonkey!  "Working with wildlife, one learns to expect the unexpected. Even the most seemingly straightforward story can eventually reveal its true stripes and end up surprising us all. "Last year, our SWT/KWS Tsavo Vet Unit moved a wayward female zebra from community land back to a protected area. It was an uneventful translocation and the zebra has been loving life since. We did, however, have quite the surprise recently, with the appearance of a baby zonkey – a hybrid between a zebra and a donkey – by her side.  "Zebras have a 12-month gestation period, so it's not been difficult to connect the dots as to the origins of this lovely little character. It seems that mum encountered a rather amorous donkey before she was moved!" The SWT which moved the female zebra from the community to a protected area also shared an elaborated statement of the amorous Zebra and Donkey on its website. "Last May, the SWT/KWS Tsavo Mobile Veterinary Unit received a call from the KWS Community Warden at Mutomo Station. A stray zebra that had ventured out of the Tsavo East National Park and into a community bordering the park. She made herself right at home there, becoming an honorary member of a local woman's cattle herd. This situation continued for many weeks until the story was aired on local media, and then our team was asked to help translocate the zebra back to a protected area.  "At this point, the zebra had become fairly habituated to community life, so we had to choose her new home with that in mind. We settled on our Kenze Anti-Poaching Team's base in Chyulu National Park, so they could keep a close eye on her while she settled into her new home. "Translocating the mare was a straightforward process; after sedating her, the team put her in the back of a pickup truck and took the most direct route into the National Park. "Waking up upon arrival, the zebra — who was quickly proving herself to be unflappable and extremely adaptable — got to her feet and ambled off into the bush. Our Kenze team saw her frequently over the coming weeks and months; she became a regular at the water hole and often availed herself of the nearby salt lick. "We're happy to report that mum and baby are thriving. Their new home is in an area that isn't plagued by heavy predation and thanks to the lush conditions, water and grass plentiful it is a good place to call home. "We have over the decades raised many orphaned zebras, and in time, we will add to this unusual pair when it becomes time to release any zebra orphans, while this unusual pair wait for some wild zebras to discover them both. Until that day comes, they seem quite content to spend their days grazing side-by-side, a sight that makes us all stop and marvel at the wonders of nature." SWT wrote on its website.  |
